ABOUT MOMENT 2016 threw everyone—your favorite small-batch purveyors of handmade snow-sliding sticks included—for a loop. And 2017 looks to be pretty mental too, if things like torrential rains and flooding followed by 100+ inches over 48 hours are any indicators. We spent a lot of time over the past year lying to ourselves that we weren’t going to change a whole lot, and then ended up where we are now: two brand new models on the way (Meridian Tour & Meridian 117), revised cap and semi-cap construction throughout almost the entire line, and multiple new, heavy, expensive pieces of machinery to help raise production speed and finish quality. More presses, new grinders, another CNC . . . the list goes on, and we’re still reeling from a great season. Demand was overwhelming, and we struggled to keep skis in stock for you. They say it’s a good problem to have, but we’d rather you were out there on a pair of Moments instead of waiting for a pair. Rest assured that we aren’t slowing down. We’re stronger, faster, better than ever at making rad shred missiles for your feet. Welcome to next year. Love, MOMENT

HANDMADE IN THE USA There’s good stuff out there - but you may have to work a little harder to get it when the snow gods aren’t puking their guts out all over your local mountain. We’re working harder too, sourcing 95% of the materials in our skis and 100% of the people who make them from right here in the USA, then cranking late into the night to bake batch after batch of handmade shred sticks. We’re making them tougher to last longer, lighter so you can go farther into the backcountry, and more fun for those days when it does dump like it should. We’re always adapting and improving, and as a result, all we make are limited editions. Don’t get with us if you don’t want to work. You have to pay to play, and we don’t mean in dollars. But rest assured, when you’ve put in the effort and you have a pair of Moments under you working for you, the reward will be worth it. And we’ll be right there with you.

TRIPLE CAMBER TECHNOLOGY by MOMENT SKIS

MOMENT SKIS

CAMBER TECH

HANDMADE IN THE USA

MUSTACHE ROCKER Traditional camber underfoot and rocker at the tip and tail. Camber gives you high-speed stability and edge hold on hardpack, while rocker at both ends feels loose and playful in variable snow.

Triple Camber Technology adds twin micro-cambers within the center camber of the ski, restoring pop to the tip and tail and stiffening the overall profile of the ski while maintaining the loose feel of a rocker/ camber design. In powder, the low center and rockered ends allow you to float and slash. On hardpack, the micro-cambers bite with focused pressure into the snow, making the shorter effective edge more effective in the turn. In variable conditions, Triple Camber adds confidence without making the ski sluggish or hard to initiate. Triple Camber Technology will take your skiing to the next level. It’s the best of all worlds.

TRIPLE CAMBER TWIN ROCKER Rocker at the tip and tail, low center camber, and two sections of micro-camber embedded in front of and behind the binding. Rocker and low camber let the ski surf and slash in powder, while the micro-camber sections create focused edge pressure on hardpack for carving.

FRANKENSKI, DEATHWISH, SIERRA

TRIPLE CAMBER FRONT ROCKER Rocker in the tip, camber underfoot, and microcamber sections before and behind the binding. Easy turn initiation, stability and maneuverability for variable snow, with powerful edge hold and turn exit on hardpack.

TECHNOLOGY

Whereas many small ski companies rely on outsourcing to produce prototypes, we create and press new designs entirely in-house. A process that might take weeks for others takes 24 hours or less at Moment. It is this agility that allows us to experiment with radical rocker profiles, to rework dimensions by the millimeter, and to test out new materials, in order to bring you the best skiing experience possible every season.

CARBON FIBER

ASPEN / PINE

PAULOWNIA / ASH

STANDARD LAYUP

We use carbon fiber in all our skis, either in the form of woven unidirectional stringers or carbon tow threads added to the laminate matrix. Lighter than fiberglass, metal, or basalt, carbon helps tune and strengthen the ski while adding longevity to the flex profile.

We source our edges from the industry’s mostrecognized manufacturer. They arrive from Austria hardened to 48 Rockwell, and we perform additional heat-treating in-house to adjust the hardness and ductility of the steel, ensuring you get the most life out of your skis.

Extruded UHMW (Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) is the sidewall material we use for every pair of skis. It is extremely light, durable, and resistant to separation.

Strong, light, and poppy, with a great ride thanks to the damping performance of pine, our aspen/ pine core is the foundation of our all-mountain and powder skis.

Paulownia is exceptionally light in weight, with similar properties to aspen in terms of flex and rebound. We use this as the core foundation for our touring models, and add ash stringers for strength and a smooth ride.

A combination of carbon fiber stringers and fiberglass sheets helps give our skis their signature smooth ride and long flex life. Triaxial glass adds twisting strength and longitudinal stiffness. Biaxial weaves add torsional stiffness. Unidirectional glass helps absorb vibration and stiffen the ski from tip to tail.

BASE

LAMINATES

TOPSHEET

ASPEN / ASH

BAMBOO

LOW FAT LAYUP

Our U.S. made Durasurf 4001 sintered base material takes a beating while staying fast. Harder and with better wax absorption properties than extruded bases, sintered bases are the industry standard for performance and longevity.

In addition to carbon fiber, we use three types of fiberglass laminates to fine-tune the flex of our skis. Triaxial glass adds twisting strength and longitudinal stiffness. Biaxial weaves add torsional stiffness. Unidirectional glass helps absorb vibration and stiffen the ski from tip to tail.

We use several different types of topsheet materials, enhanced with sublimated graphics - a nontoxic and eco-friendly alternative to silk screening. Each topsheet choice is made to ensure optimal durability and impact resistance while maintaining crisp and bright graphics.

Ash stringers give this core outstanding stiffness and damping without excess weight, making it perfect for our big-mountain models and our competition park ski, the Vice.

We use a core of laminated bamboo in the Frankenski. Bamboo is extraordinarily tough and flexible, making it ideal for the abuses of urban jibbing. It is also rapidly renewable, since cutting bamboo does not stop the plant from growing.

Our Low-Fat Layup uses 33% more carbon and a lighter fiberglass weave to shave excess weight from the ski while preserving snap and life. We use this layup in our touring models and in our widest men’s and women’s powder skis.

RESIN We developed our proprietary epoxy resin direclty with the U.S. manufacturer. Custom-formulated for flexibility, durability, and exceptional bonding strength in cold conditions, our resin is what keeps everything together. Made in the USA.

DIRECTIONAL SHAPES, LONGER EFFECTIVE EDGES, AND NO TAIL ROCKER MAKE THESE THE MOST TRADITIONAL SKIS IN OUR LINE. DRIVE THEM FAST DOWN THE FALL LINE, AND REAP THE REWARDS OF POWERFUL EDGE HOLD AND ENERGY FOR CONFIDENCE IN ALL CONDITIONS.

FREERIDE

TAHOE 96

The Tahoe’s directional design, narrow waist and flat tail might come across as old-school. We’re cool with that, if the way it rips East Coast fallline trees—and every line at Squaw, for that matter—is the penalty for nostalgia. With the added bite and pop of TCT to keep your jump turns biting and popping, the Tahoe throws back to the freeski vibe at the dawn of the 21st century, when 96mm was fat and lawn darts were dropping.

An all-mountain ski in all the right ways, the Tahoe 106 adds some surface area to keep you charging in chop and powder. It’s directional with a slightly upturned tail, handmade with a full wood core and semi-cap over sidewall for strength and edging power. TCT enhances the pop and bite of traditional camber on hard snow without hooking up in the deep, so you can run the Tahoe 106 wide open, top-to-bottom, bell-to-bell.

HANDMADE IN THE USA

Slimmed down and lightened up for the uphill, the Deathwish Tour takes the compromise out of the skiing part of the backcountry. Playful yet predictable, with the versatility to handle not only the creamy middle of your next chute, but the icy entrance and the beaten crust of the exit route as well. Handmade in the USA with a strong and light paulownia/ash core and now featuring semicap over sidewall construction.

Agile. Stable. Quick. Planted. Carveable. Surfy. The Deathwish is all of these, and a living contradiction to the statement that one ski can’t have it all. From crazy experiment to cornerstone technology, Triple Camber made its name with this design, and it seems like we nailed the rest of the package off the bat. The Deathwish is a western skier’s dream daily driver and a company favorite. So long as it remains our #1 seller, we won’t do anything to change the way it skis.

All-new for 2017, the Meridian Tour is—guess what—a lighter Meridian with our tour tip and tail. Losing weight for the uphill while keeping the same dimensions translates to a more lively and less damp ski feel, but you’re not out there blitzing resort chop, are you? Nope. You’re out there for deep fluff and silky windbuff, and that’s what the Meridian Tour is made for.

Another season on the Meridian has us hooked, and a Ski of the Year award from Powder means the virus is spreading. So much fun in so many conditions can’t be legal, and while we know there’s no substitute for surface area or effective edge, we’re still pretty stoked to find ourselves on a pair whether it’s spring slush season or a storm day. Agile and confident in tight spaces, but smooth and stable on the runout thanks to full rocker, the Meridian makes skiing easy. Easy = fun.

We do love a fat ski. And while it’s easy to lust after the Chipotle Banana’s voluptuous dimensions and Radius Rocker profile, even we find its girth and burly layup a bit sadistic. So we hooked up the doll again, and this time instead of an ICBM we got the perfect girlfriend: the Meridian 117. Still floaty and surfy, but way easier to ski when everything’s tracked up. Still firm enough to stand on, but way easier on your legs—and your spine. In short, it’s what we all imagined we’d feel like on the Banana, until we remembered we weren’t tucking 100-day seasons under our belts like Carston.

ALL MOUNTAIN

The simple truth is this: skinny skis shred hard snow better. So when the conditions call for shattered elbows, we reach for the Tahoe and point ‘em down the fall line. Of course, some would never call the Tahoe skinny—but we aren’t bashing gates, and 96 millimeters is just slim enough to offer superb grip, along with the stability you want for variable snow. Triple Camber Technology doubles down on the edging wager, sawing through packed granular like Leatherface while maintaining the playful, pivot-able personality needed to zipperline bumps from Maine to Colorado.

If we booked a springtime resort trip and had to pick our skis blind to conditions, the PB&J would be at the top of a short list. Wide enough to hold you up but not enough to hold you back, whether you’re billygoating guided cool-wahzz or doublehand-dragging every roller in the park, the PB&J can literally do anything. Yes, including your taxes.

If popular votes are still a thing we’re doing in 2017, the Bibby will likely come out on top yet again. It hit the jackpot years ago with design and dimensions, and remains the best selling Moment ski of all time. Supremely fun on the deepest days, yet capable of full-on butt-dragger cordoroy carving, the Bibby is way up and so #blessed. Hail to the Chief.

The Bibby Tour shaves off almost two pounds per pair, which translates to literal tons on the skin track. It’s everything you love about the Bibby, with more laps on tap for your day in the backcountry. The only thing we wish is that we’d done this sooner.

One-ski quiver gets thrown around a lot, but if you can’t have more than one pair, the Sierra will keep you smiling no matter what. Triple Camber gives our women’s mid-fat ski the uncanny ability to carve the heck out of hardpack while staying loose and playful in trees, bumps, and on the deepest storm days. Wherever you find yourself, in whatever conditions, if you find yourself on the Sierra you’re going to have a good time.

Why mess with a reviewer’s favorite? Well, since converting the Bella to the same rocker profile we use in the Meridian, we’ve heard nothing but praise for the radical change in design. We’ve unleashed a friendly dragon, one that is just as willing to carve as ever, but even more playful in bumps, chop, trees, and chutes. And in powder, well . . . forget about it. There’s nothing out there than can compete with full rocker, and there never will be.

YOUTH

CARSON RUBBER BONES. NO FEAR. IF ONLY WE COULD BE YOUNG AGAIN

17/18 HANDMADE IN THE USA

You might get a full season out of your average youth ski, but you’ll be lucky to get anything more. That’s because most kids’ skis aren’t built to last—they’re built to do the opposite, with foam cores and cheap materials that break down quickly. The Carson isn’t your average youth ski. It’s a real ski. We make it exactly like every other Moment ski: by hand, right here in our factory with it’s own CNC-machined mold, full wood core, and premium materials. We know families whose kids are skiing on Carsons that have been passed down through two other siblings. This year, we made the Carson even better, with Mustache Rocker like our best-selling PB&J and Bibby. It makes for an easier, livelier and more playful ski, ready for anything from shredding pow to jibbing in the progression park.
