encouragement

THE POWER OF ENCOURAGEMENT by Eastman Curtis

T

he most powerful positive influence you can expose a person to is encouragement. The energy of encouragement is the total opposite of what most of us have experienced growing up. We have become far more familiar with fear, manipulation and control. These negative tactics may bring about temporary results, but they can also damage people along the way. When I was little, my sisters and I would get strapped in the back seat side-by-side, held hostage for a two-hour car ride. After several attempts to quiet us down, my dad would perform what we called “The Daddy Copter.” This is where my father would have one hand gripping the steering wheel and the other hand would swing wildly behind him in the back seat. The goal of the “Copter” was to connect with one of his offspring’s body parts, inflicting some sort of discomfort. My dad got to be quite accurate when he began incorporating the rearview mirror with “The Daddy Copter.” We soon learned the arm didn’t stop swinging until the connection was made and someone was crying. Many times I would push my little sister into the path of the “Copter,” offering her as the sacrificial maiden to appease the wrath of my dad’s fury. The tears would flow and “The Copter” would return to the front seat. Realizing how ineffective the results were and the physiological trauma that was unleashed in the back seat, I swore when I was a dad to never bring out the Daddy Copter. Why then did I find my arm sporadically swinging around the back seat when my own children were acting up? Because I had never seen any other way modeled. In the same way, many people’s idea of motivation is to tell them how dumb they are and how they will never amount to anything. We can inflict embarrassment, fear, and control, or we can inspire people with the power of encouragement. I am so thankful for the people God has brought into my life to model encouragement for me!

R3Global Teacher Eastman Curtis.

I want you take a moment and think about the person who has influenced your life for good more than any other. That person could be a family member, friend, coach or teacher, a business associate or your upline. Think about that person for just a moment… I can promise you the person you are thinking about is an encourager. They saw something in you that you may have not even seen in yourself. There is one thing that will influence your life more than a person you believe in, and that is a person who believes in you! Two essential things are important to be an effective encourager: 1) Focus on the good! Try to catch somebody doing something RIGHT. It’s easy to give your attention to the bad, especially if you are looking for it. Imagine what could happen if we started looking for the positive in people, making that our number one priority? Brig says, “Our mind is like a camera; what we focus on is what will develop.” When we focus on the good, we will begin to start enjoying our life a whole lot more. 2) Voice your encouragement! It’s one thing just to think about

encouraging someone, but nothing happens until we communicate encouragement! Let it flow out of you. Here are some powerful phrases that will spark confidence and start the inevitable fire of belief in the abilities and gifts that God has placed in you: I like the way you handled that. I have faith in your ability. I appreciate what you did. You are really showing improvement. You are a valuable part of the team. Don’t give up, you’ve got what it takes! Let me warn you. If you just blurt out a phrase like this without a specific example in mind, it will be “false flattery”. That will come back and bite you in the butt. Real encouragement comes from the heart, so open up your heart and let it surge out of you. Start with those closest to you: your spouse, those in your business, your family and your friends. Don’t just let encouragement be something you do now and then. Make encouragement a way of life! TCM

When Brig and Lita Hart became involved with MonaVie, they already had experience with Brazil from a previous business opportunity. They knew that it was a country rich in resources, while the people suffered extreme poverty. The Harts were blessed and in turn they saw the chance to bless others. “When I knew that we were going to be involved with the açai berry out of Brazil, I proposed that we do something to give back to the country that was giving us the açai and this great opportunity,” Brig says of the early days. Catching up with

Sergio Ponce

[

Brazil Director

]

for The MORE Project

A few months into 2005, Sergio Ponce, a Brazilianborn Orthodontist and Minister, was losing sight of his dream. He had spent much of his life trying to help the children and families of the favelas (Brazilian slums) in Rio de Janeiro, but Sergio desperately needed more funding. That’s when a divine appointment occurred. Dallin Larsen was looking for a non-profit organization that he could bless with the success of MonaVie. Brig Hart and his good friend Doug Rowland put Dallin in touch with Sergio and the MORE Project was born. An acronym for MonaVie Operation REscue, the MORE Project has helped thousands of children and families with the constant and generous support of R3Global distributors. Treasure Chest Magazine caught up with Sergio at his home in Brazil to chat about the beginning, God’s blessing, and the future.

[TCM] [SP]

Tell me about how you and Brig Hart met.

I received a phone call from [R3Global Diamond Executive] Doug Rowland. He told me that he wanted to introduce me to Brig Hart and that Brig was very interested in helping the Brazilian kids and families who live in the favelas. At that time, I didn’t know who he was, so I came to Jacksonville, FL, and Brig and Lita welcomed me at their house. Brig called Dallin [Larsen] and we had a conference call. That day, right there, we started the MORE Project.

[TCM] [SP]

How has Brig helped the MORE Project?

Oh my God. How? First off, he helps by believing in my dreams and goals for the kids and families who live in the horrible situations here — in the favelas. Second, by being an ambassador for the MORE Project. He speaks about the MORE Project like he speaks about his own sons. He loves the MORE Project. He understands the message God has for him and us. Does he give money? Yes, a lot, but it’s so much more than money. He opens doors, he takes down walls, he moves mountains, he crosses rivers, he does everything that he can to help and support us here.

110 | VOLUME 1 ISSUE 1

[TCM]

A lot of R3Global distributors have traveled to Brazil to volunteer. Tell me a bit about your experiences with these people.

[SP]

They are amazing. Each person is amazing. They come here and just love us. They love our kids — they just show love. I can see their eyes shining and listen to their hearts beating fast as soon as they arrive at the Project. They cry a lot when we go to see the favelas, they laugh with the kids and bring peace, joy and hope for our people here in Brazil.

[TCM] [SP]

What’s it like to be able to fulfill your dream of helping the people of the favelas? I believe in the future, and the present is our opportunity to change the future. Today is not the time to measure what we’re doing here. The next generation will be our fruits. For now, we’re just putting in the foundation. We have “some walls” for sure, but not many yet. I have had dreams and in the last couple of years and because of MonaVie, my dreams are becoming reality. I’m changing my dreams into goals. One of my goals (I always have it like a movie

My wife Silvia and I will be there, maybe 100-years-old, just laughing and with our hearts full of joy and gratitude to be chosen by God to start this amazing project. It will change thousands and thousands of lives. The MORE Project is all about love; It’s all about Him...

That brings me to my next question. How has God blessed your life? I’m the most happy and joyful person walking on this earth for sure. I’m so blessed. I live my life for Him. I love Jesus, I love whom He loves, and I love being used by Him to share love and hope for this world. Silvia and I have this amazing opportunity to give our lives. Nothing is better or more important for us than to be an instrument in His hands and see Him using simple people like us to do His amazing work. It’s nothing about us. We can’t do anything without His Favor, His Grace and His Love.

TRUE RICHES by Dean Sikes

very so often along this journey we know as life, God has special ways of establishing covenant relationships among people who share common dreams, goals and values. For me, my relationship with Brig and Lita Hart is one of these. Through the years our relationship has grown, it’s one that I cherish, and today it’s being used to offer what I call the intangible asset of hope to teenagers and adults who come from all walks of life. I met Brig and Lita at a convention in 1989. Almost immediately, God began to slowly, yet deliberately, knit our hearts together. By the time I launched out on my own in fulltime ministry in January of 1993, Brig and Lita were onboard and were two of my very first partners. the blame game

THE BLAME GAME by Larry Titus

I

’ve got a new game to recommend to Hollywood. Because this game has been going on since the Garden of Eden, it should be familiar to almost everyone. It will be called, “The Blame Game.” This is how you play the game: when the computer projection flashes scenes of mistakes from your past onto the screen, immediately announce the name of the person you originally blamed. The contestant who can accurately name the most people whom they have blamed for their past mistakes wins. In the Garden of Eden, Adam immediately blamed Eve for his sin. Eve, equally as clever in finding someone else to blame, blamed the devil. That’s precisely why I’m so adept at blaming others. It’s Adam’s fault. So far some of those I’ve blamed are the school teacher, the car dealer, God, my wife, the kids, the deacons, the weather, my headache, the dumb screwdriver, the dumb dog, the secretary, and the driver in the other car. Have you ever noticed how many people worldwide play The Blame Game daily? The Democrats blame the Republicans and the Republicans the Democrats. Women blame men. Kids blame parents. Parents blame their parents. Prisoners blame their environment. Preachers blame the congregation. Congregations blame the preacher. When will someone finally stand up and say, “I’m to blame. I made the decision and I bear the consequences”? Wouldn’t that be refreshing? I like the motto that President Harry Truman had sitting on his desk “The buck stops here!” As soon as we are confronted with someone demanding an answer for our actions, our defense mechanisms instantly kick in. The blame-shifting and scapegoating begins in our mind within seconds after being called into account. I was sick. You’re sick. We’re all sick. I didn’t know it was my responsibility. You didn’t make it clear. It’s his fault. It’s your fault. It’s everyone’s fault but mine. The most liberating thing in the world is to say “It’s me.” No wonder God revealed

R3Global Teacher Larry Titus with his wife Devi.

all His glory to Isaiah. It was probably the first time since Adam that God had heard anyone say, “I’m a man of unclean lips and I live among a people of unclean lips.” And God in Heaven was heard to say, with a quick downward thrust of his arm, “YES!” I also believe the reason God loved David so much was that he was a quick repenter. God is repulsed when we blame others. Blame-shifting is a characteristic trait of our sinful, fallen nature. Assuming responsibility is a quality of the new spirit man. God is drawn to us when we’re capable of saying, “It’s me, Lord.” If you want to shuck off the chains of the past, one of the quickest ways to do it is to begin assuming responsibility for your actions. Many years ago I took our family to an A & W Root Beer Drive-in. After the tray was hooked on to my car window, loaded with mugs and baskets of chicken, my daughter in the back seat asked me to roll down the window for her. Inadvertently I hit the front window button instead of the back. The next sound that I heard was

mugs shattering, root beer splashing, and chicken splatting. I instantly shifted around in my seat desperately looking for someone to blame. I was about to say, “Trina, why did you ask me to put your window down?” when my wife quipped, “Now who are you going to blame?” I was nailed; I was furious. As I sat there stewing in my own juices I heard the Lord say, “When are you going to stop blaming others and assume the responsibility for your own actions?” Ouch! Now God’s after me. But it marked a turning point in my life. Though it hurts, to assume blame for your actions allows you to begin growing in the Lord. It takes a big man or woman to admit responsibility, but the results are incredible. You’ll begin to see growth immediately. And if you don’t see results immediately, don’t blame me. I refuse to accept responsibility for this article. TCM

What is

RELATIONAL MARKETING

AND HOW DO YOU UNDERSTAND IT? Most people

are familiar with the term network marketing, but at R3Global we prefer the term relational marketing. After all, it’s the relationships you build that make you successful in business — relationships that create loyalty, trust and longevity. Five years ago, MonaVie was a new company with a great product that offered streamlined ordering and delivery, but it was in desperate need of a business strategy. So Brig Hart brought them the culture of R3G — relational marketing. One of the reasons MonaVie is so blessed is because of the culture Dallin Larsen has adopted from the R3Global founders. “We have redefined the industry in multi-level marketing and direct selling,” Brig explains. R3G culture is focused on developing the whole person (body, soul and spirit) with ultimate success — better health physically, financially, emotionally and spiritually. “There are three components to a successful network. One, a great product and a great company — MonaVie does that. They manufacture, ship and pay us. Two, quality people who herald the message of the product — a great distributor base. And third, a proven Support System like R3Global that teaches the what, why and how of building the business,” Brig says. There are many similarities between the old culture (network marketing) and the new culture (relational marketing). Self-reliance, self-discipline, getting out of your comfort zone, American entrepreneurialism, turnkey system, and low start-up costs are a few examples, but the new culture relies on people and relationships. “Relational marketing is really interactive distribution. We connect and interact with the people who distribute the product in and through that relationship,” Brig explains. Once you have RELATIONships in place, you need a successful Total Support System to build those RELATIONships, which in turn build more RELATIONships (The Law of Exponential Growth). You’re not just building a team of business partners; you’re building a team of friends. After all, friends do what friends do. They influence each other. Friends read the same books, they listen to the same CDs and they go to the same events. True leadership is best defined as inspirational influence. It’s no secret that we are experiencing some rather challenging economic times. People who don’t develop a network of friends, associates and relationships are going to have it even tougher right now. “You need to have a network you can lean on for counsel, advice and support,” Brig says. You need a good support group and a good Support System. A Total Support System that offers reliable information, inspiration and knowledge. A full and complete Total Support System like Team R3Global. 118 | VOLUME 1 ISSUE 1

A FEW COMMON QUESTIONS AND CONSIDERATIONS ABOUT RELATIONAL MARKETING: Why now? Why should your efforts be geared toward relational marketing now? Because there is a market for the product (MonaVie), which includes the largest population in the world — Baby Boomers. Baby Boomers have reached their 50s and 60s — an age where people start to look at their physicality more. “We’re the ones that made our wealth in our youth. Now we’re spending our wealth on our health,” Brig says. “Health and wellness is an industry that’s changing the way we are doing things. For the rest of my life, this will be the next trillion dollar industry.”

I’ve never done a network like this before. Brig Hart understands that relational marketing is a new concept to some people and some people need guidance at first. That is why when he started the R3Global Total Support System, he sat down and wrote the M.A.P. (Maximum Action Plan) Book.“Read and Follow the 10 Step Pattern and you’ll have a greater understanding of what the successful leaders have done before you”, he says of his comprehensive guide to becoming a successful relational marketer. “Relational Marketing is a great industry because you’re not going it alone. We’re not dreaming up anything new, we’re just kind of following the leader.”

Can I really make money from home on my own terms? Another trend that’s changing the way businesses are being dealt with through the Cottage Industry are home-based business opportunities. Cottage Industry is defined as: An industry where the creation of products and services is home-based, rather than factory-based. The invention and acceptance of people doing business online has changed everything. You can now work out of your home with little overhead and great success thanks to the Internet and e-commerce. The Internet is the platform and e-commerce is a way of doing business on that platform from anywhere in the world. The acceptance of these advancements has changed the way people look at our industry.

This whole process sounds a bit overwhelming. Is it worth it? It’s not overwhelming. You’re just sharing the message of health with friends. It’s one product — with five variations. It’s getting your nutrients through liquid form. People say MonaVie is expensive, but it’s really not. With MonaVie, you receive your full antioxidant capacity of ten servings a day of fruit. Is your health worth that? We think so.

What if I didn’t get in the business early enough to become successful? There are roughly 6.8 billion people in the world and they’re all looking for something. The whole world’s connected. Every person on planet Earth knows somebody and they all want something more than what they have. Nine out of every ten prospects you’ll talk to have yet to hear about or experience the product MonaVie. Less than one half of one percent of any city market has been completely saturated. Who doesn’t want better health both physically and financially? Everyone does, and now that the pathway has been developed, all you must do is decide that now is as good a time as any to get started. Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Get Started Now and Don’t Quit.

I’m not really sure if I fit in a leader role and I’ve never been part of a team before. Once you join, the first step is to sign up and become a distributor. You then simply start following the path of the people who have gone before you (your active working upline). They are your built-in lifeline. Just follow the leaders and do as they do. In this Support System, the combined efforts of each distributor produces a team effort that forms the team attitude. Each individual brings special skills and talents to the table. Combined together, the synergy that is created causes great results. Where there is agreement, there is power. Together we can do anything.

Average Weekly % of Number of Average Distributors Paid Weekly at This Rank Distributors

The income statistics above are for all MonaVie Distributors who were paid bonuses during the period from July 4, 2008 to June 26, 2009, at the above ranks, excluding rank advancement bonuses. A “Distributor” is defined as any person who: (1) executed a MonaVie Distributor Application and Agreement; (2) has sponsored at least one person; (3) has received at least one non-retail bonus; and (4) has been active in any of the eight weeks preceding the bonus period (to learn the requirements for being an “active” distributor in your market, reference your country specific MonaVie Compensation Plan document). Note that this excludes retail customers, preferred customers, retailers (those who have received a retail bonus only), pre-enrollees, distributors who did not renew, and customers, retailers, or distributors whose relationships with MonaVie were revoked. An individual who has executed a MonaVie Independent Distributor Application and Agreement, but has not fulfilled the four criteria enumerated above is not a Distributor. That person is simply a wholesale customer. If, and only when, all four criteria are satisfied does that person become a Distributor. Accordingly, the status of an individual can, and sometimes does, change throughout the course of a year. For example, Mary enrolls as a customer in February. In April, she qualifies to become a Distributor and maintains her qualification through May. In June, she is inactive, and therefore, her status is that of a customer. In July, she begins retailing products to a few customers, and thus, becomes a retailer (but not a Distributor). In August, she again qualifies as a Distributor but fails to remain qualified for the remainder of the year. For the purposes of this Income Disclosure Statement, Mary will only be considered a Distributor during the months of April, May, and August. The average annualized income for all Distributors during this period was $2,918.22. From July 2008 to June 2009, approximately 87% of individuals who executed a MonaVie Distributor Application and Agreement, and made at least one purchase in the last 12 months, are considered wholesale customers. The earnings of the Distributors in this chart are not necessarily representative of the income, if any, that a MonaVie Distributor can or will earn through his or her participation in the MonaVie Compensation Plan. Your success depends upon your skills, work effort, and market conditions. MonaVie does not guarantee any level of income or your success. * These figures are derived from a survey of approximately 18,000 distributors performed by MonaVie through our online ordering system.
