Experience the all-new Axopar 45 Sun Top & Cross Top – meticulously crafted to redefine your boating adventures. Seamlessly blending the thrill of open-air exploration with the comfort of sheltered spaces , this boat promises an unforgettable journey on the water.
Revel in the exhilarating feeling of taking the helm, then unwind in the generous social areas onboard. Explore boundless customization possibilities and embark on a journey like no other.
The last twelve months have seen a profusion of both local and international boat shows with their focus on new and clean power technology, the significant role of women in boating, and the impact of geopolitics both in the marine industry and in our lifestyles.
And, while 2024 sped past us, we have been bombarded with information and daily updates from mainstream media (MSM) and social media (SM) on worldwide events. Were you able to pause and just take it all in? Well Summer has arrived and, with it, a chance to catch up, chill, and enjoy getting out and about in the company of family and friends.
All along the east coast of Australia, this season provides an excellent opportunity to make use of the beautiful waters. Whether you venture out on the ocean or spend time relaxing on the extensive waterways, there are plenty of options for all boaters.
With so many boaters about to put their pride and joy back in the water, and in the interest that everyone enjoys a trouble-free and safe experience, perhaps a gentle reminder about important systems and items to check might be in order:
● engine and fuel system
● boat hull
● propellers
● ropes and anchor lines
● boat trailer
● batteries
● electric systems
● belts, cables and hoses
● solar, generators, battery packs
● compulsory safety gear
These pre-boating checks are very important of course, but don’t guarantee that each water adventure will be flawlessly smooth. However, if you are fully prepared and ready to address any eventuality, and if all participants have a clear, calm mindset, open to whatever nature brings their way, then everyone is more likely to have a good time.
In addition to the more popular leisure boating activities of cruising, camping, swimming, fishing, and participating in watersports, there are many other experiences that you may not have considered as being traditionally related to boating. In the feature story on page 56, our publisher, Andy Kancachian, explores some engaging and entertaining activities that could enhance your boating adventures. With the array of options available, you probably won’t have to listen to a family member complaining that boating is “boring”. Everyone can find something interesting to do on the waterways, especially if you are boating on the Gold Coast and in Southeast Queensland. It is never run-of-the-mill.
Naturally, with the magnificent lifestyle offered by the region, the population has grown considerably and, with that, an increase in boaters new to the area. Consequently, there is more traffic on the water and that, coupled with recently unpredictable weather patterns, makes it vitally important for all boaters to make safety a top priority.
Consideration for all water users is very important, and let’s not forget the abundance of life beneath the surface. Just because much of marine life is unseen doesn’t mean that it is unaffected by our activities. So, enjoy the water, but please be patient, be mindful, and be respectful of others, both on and in the water. Happy Summer!

A MEMORABLE TRIP TO FIJI
MEETING BLUE WATER SAILORS AND EXPLORING MARINAS
Our recent trip to Fiji was a fantastic opportunity to connect with many of our blue water sailors and explore two top marinas: Nawi Marina and Vuda Marina. This visit helped strengthen our relationships with the sailing community and gave us confidence in the future of these world-class facilities.
NAWI MARINA: A NEW SAFE HAVEN
One of the highlights of our trip was Nawi Marina, a newly built facility that has just been completed in the past few months. Located at the end of Fiji’s largest natural harbour, Nawi Marina sits in a natural cyclonesafe zone. It’s well-protected by surrounding islands, an 8-metre-high barrier on the exposed side, and a hillside 3 kilometres to the north.
Built to withstand Category 5 storms, Nawi offers peace of mind to sailors who seek a secure mooring in cycloneprone regions. It was reassuring to see one of our insured vessels, Janice of Wyoming, safely docked there. The marina was built by GC Marine, a company we trust for their quality and expertise, adding to our confidence in the strength of the structure.
Apart from its ideal location, Nawi Marina boasts a new hardstand boatyard, located 2 kilometres away, with a 75-tonne travel lift, making it a top spot for boat repairs and servicing in Fiji.
VUDA MARINA: A WELL-ESTABLISHED FACILITY
Vuda Marina, which has been developing over the last 12 years, was another impressive stop on our trip. What began as a small channel in reclaimed mangrove land has grown into Fiji’s largest marine facility, catering to cruising yachts and vessels up to 70 metres long.
The “inner” harbor at Vuda has proven to be a safe anchorage, having withstood two significant cyclones over the past decade without any damage to vessels. Given the risk of cyclones in the region, we are considering only approving storage for yachts on the hard, where vessels can be securely tied down in special Cyclone Holes.
Vuda is also equipped with a 75-tonne travel lift and a 40-tonne hydraulic multihull trailer, allowing it to handle a wide range of vessels for maintenance. The marina’s continued growth shows its dedication to supporting the increasing needs of the sailing community in Fiji.
BUILDING CONNECTIONS WITH SAILORS
A standout aspect of the trip was meeting many of our blue water sailors in person. These mariners trust us to protect their vessels as they navigate the world’s oceans, and it was fulfilling to connect in such a beautiful setting.
Both Nawi and Vuda Marinas are more than just docking points—they are safe havens for sailors exploring the South Pacific. We’re proud to play a role in their journey and to support these incredible sailors.
LOOKING FORWARD
Fiji’s marine infrastructure is rapidly evolving, and both Nawi Marina and Vuda Marina offer secure, cyclone-proof harbors for the sailing community. Nawi, with its modern design and natural protection, provides a top mooring location, while Vuda’s ongoing development and proven track record make it a central hub for cruisers in the region.
Adding to these is the news Marine Structures has won the contract to extend Denarau Marina's Super Yacht Marina by an additional 7 berths. This project is apparently well advanced with the installation being completed last year. Denarau Marina is the hub for Fiji's commercial vessels and is the ideal place to provision and service the growing fleet of luxury charter vessels.
This trip was a great reminder of the strength and vibrancy of the sailing community, and we look forward to continuing to support our blue water sailors in their future voyages.

Outboard Expert
Outboard Parts Australia owner Andy Kelckhoven shares tips on buying used outboards and keeping your engines running well for safe boating. Andy is one of the Gold Coast’s most experienced outboard experts, having repaired thousands of engines throughout his business career.
BUYING USED OUTBOARDS If you do decide to purchase instead of repair outboard, there are many things to consider. Picking the right engine for your boat is very much a case-by-case decision. But the key factor is budget. A new engine will naturally give you the best reliability, but not everyone can afford a new engine. That is when a used outboard is a good option. This is especially true for the owners of the very powerful, high horsepower engines; brand-new replacements cost tens of thousands to purchase.
Obviously, the main concern when buying a second-hand engine is that it might turn out to be a lemon. This is why it is good to buy from a reputable dealer so you get a warranty and can go back to them with any problems.
How many engine hours are too many? The healthy amount of hours can vary a lot depending on the model because each brand tends to have a different lifespan. Generally, you can have more confidence buying the used newer-model engines because they have computers in them that can give you an accurate breakdown of the engine’s history. In older models, the engine hour gauges are less reliable.
You can also make some general assumptions about engines, namely that 2-strokes will give you more power, but 4-strokes will use less fuel, and can and give you twice the engine lifespan.
Engine checks. It is essential to get any used engine mechanically assessed before you buy it. We offer pre-purchase inspections that check everything top to bottom, including the important compression test. It is critical to do a compression test because it checks whether an engine is mixing air and fuel at high enough pressure. A low rating on this test shows you there are worn-out engine parts that are leaking. Normally you would
pay separately for these checks on a used engine but we’ve already done it on all our engines before you buy them.
Test-driving an engine. It is tough to properly check an engine on a test-drive unless you are a mechanic. However, if you are going without a mechanic, you want to make sure the engine operates well. To conduct your own engine check, begin by holding it at full throttle for a couple of minutes and ensure no overheat alarms come on. Make sure it changes gears smoothly and generally performs well. Take it for a good run, because problems will not often show themselves immediately.
REPAIR OR REPLACE? Often the best way to judge whether an engine needs a tuneup is the boat owner’s own experience with it. It is pretty common sense. But if the engine fails to start or cuts out on you more than a few times, then it is time for a checkup. After you find out the repair cost then you can weigh that up against the engine’s age and value. In that way, you can make an informed decision about repairing it or buying a new one.
Re-building your outboard is a great option that is getting used less and less these days in today’s more throwaway society. The key questions when deciding whether to rebuild an engine are the outboard’s age, value and general condition. A rebuild will only fix the mechanical parts, so you are still left with your old electric parts, which can be a concern with older outboards. A recent model is often worth rebuilding. But the flipside is new engines are more expensive to rebuild than the older ones.
Some people are very attached to their engines too and just love them. If you are one of them, you know exactly what engine you are working with and can feel very confident in rebuilding it, versus buying a used engine with an unknown history.
Engine use is key. While options are always available when your engine conks out on you, it is important that you keep your outboard well-maintained regardless of whether you have rebuilt it, or have bought a replacement.
The best way to keep your engine tip-top is to take the boat out regularly for good runs. Leaving your boat out of the water for lengthy periods can cause a big problem because the petrol inside the engine will eventually evaporate and leave sediment in the tubes that can cause a lot of damage. Use your boat regularly to avoid damaging the engine.

Maintenance schedule and marine log book solution
In the world of boating, where the open water meets the thrill of adventure, proper vessel maintenance is crucial to ensure that every journey is safe and enjoyable. First Mate, a groundbreaking boat maintenance app, was born out of the desire to make boating more accessible and less daunting for enthusiasts of all levels. Founded in 2021 by Jeremy and Pippa Batten, passionate boaters who recognised the need for a digital platform that marries community engagement with practical maintenance solutions, First Mate has quickly become an essential tool for boaters everywhere.
OUR MISSION
At the heart of First Mate lies a simple yet powerful mission: to connect boating enthusiasts and provide them with the tools they need to maintain their vessels efficiently. Whether you're a seasoned sailor or new to the world of boating, First Mate is designed to be your trusted companion on the water. By fostering a thriving community of boaters who share knowledge, experiences, and resources, First Mate aims to enhance every aspect of your boating adventures.
OUR STORY
Jeremy and Pippa’s journey to creating First Mate began with their frustration over the lack of cohesive resources for boat maintenance. While there were plenty of apps and websites offering fragmented information, none provided a comprehensive solution that combined maintenance management with community support. Recognising this gap, together they set out to develop a platform that would streamline the process of boat upkeep while also offering a space for boaters to connect, share, and learn from one another.
WHAT WE OFFER
First Mate stands out by offering a unique blend of community-driven features and robust maintenance tools. Users can easily track their vessel’s maintenance
schedule and receive reminders for essential tasks. But what truly sets First Mate apart is its emphasis on community. The app enables boaters to engage with others who share their passion, create and plan adventures with friends and fellow boaties.
In an industry where the joy of boating is often tempered by the challenges of maintenance, First Mate is a game-changer. It’s not just an app; it’s a movement that empowers boaters to take control of their vessel’s care while enjoying the camaraderie of a like-minded community. With First Mate, your next boating adventure is just a tap away.

There’s nothing like a cool summer sesh on the water, swimming throughout the day, raking in the rays and sipping on a refreshing ale alongside 40,000 other likeminded outdoor enthusiasts. Perfect!
But once the sun sets and the boats have been put to bed in their docks, the waterways have calmed down and the 40,000 people have decided to head on home for a barby is when the fish become active. The water becomes eerily quiet, save for the sounds of fish smashing into schools of bait, which can be heard breaking the surface throughout the rivers and canals.
This is a city fisherman’s dream, or at least an experience that is easily accessible, and most often only a few minutes away from the nearest boat ramp.
The Gold Coast is home to more than 500 kilometres of tide-influenced canal systems. This means that a vast number of different species of marine life can come and go as they will.
Summer in
Paradise Paul Burt
From crustaceans to mollusks and pelagics to bottom dwellers, the list of fish could literally fill the pages of a “Guide to Marine Species Volume One”.
The food chain is no different to what you’d find in the remote rivers of Papua New Guinea. As long there is a tidal change, the magic will happen. You just need to be in the right place at the right time with the right gear.
Summer is traditionally the wet season, with showers, storms and rain events that force tonnes of runoff water from roads, highways, catchment areas, gullies and drains. The water from these natural occurrences finds its way into the waterways and triggers the start of the allimportant food chain.
Microorganisms get flushed into the canals and are eaten by small fry and shrimp, which then get smacked by larger baitfish, which in turn are targeted by larger predators like trevally, mangrove jacks, barramundi, giant herring and tarpon. Eventually the boss turns up. Commonly known as the "man in the grey suit", the shark is at the top of this food chain.
For me, I love fishing the first hour or two of the run-out tide. When the water flushes out the small stuff, water clarity changes from its clearest and starts to discolour. That is when the magic starts to happen. Fishing the entrances to canals and junctions where they meet the river is an ideal spot. Nine times out of ten, an eddy will form at that junction. If you can place yourself a good 30 metres away from it, and cast your lures into that zone, you will eventually be rewarded with some kind of high adrenaline sportfishing action.
Choosing the right lures to use is the normal ‘match the hatch’ kind of deal. If herring are being hit by predator s leaving a large hole in the water, then you’ll need to use a vibe or something similar in shape and size to the herring. Similarly for mullet hiding and taking shelter around a dock or jetty; simply cast a lightly weighted soft plastic shad into the school, let it slowly sink down before retrieving, and hang on. If baitfish are scooting across the surface from being chased by another toothy critter, then a surface popper that emulates this kind of action is perfect. In fact, surface fishing is phenomenal as you can actually see the bow wave from the fish following behind your lure as you slowly retrieve it. Listening for any action on the water is super important. The ‘boofs’ tell you where the fish are, and all you have to do is cast your lure in that direction and wind back in.
The gear to use shouldn’t be old and clunky. Sturdy rods in the Shimano Raider or Zodius 3-5kg series are ideal, matched with a 2500 or 3000 size reel such as a Sedona through to a Stra dic. For line class, use nothing less than 15lb braid with 20lb
leader. Two rods are great, one 3-5kg outfit, and a heavier 6-8kg outfit where 30lb braid and 50lb leader is required. The reason for this is simply because there are huge fish out there.
Lighting of the boat should be minimal. Obviously, you’ll need the regulation lights for safety and law, but keep the flood lights off and deck lights down. Quiet is the key.
Being armed with all the above information will no doubt put you into the running to have an awesome
river prawns can be caught using a cast net and make for a tasty treat for just about any
summer session. Who knows, you might even hook one of the many infamous barramundis that now call the Gold Coast estuary systems home.
And last, but not least, you can do much of this without a boat. There are many overflows, runoffs and causeways throughout the Gold Coast that offer exactly what I’ve been describing. They too hold a lot of fish during the night and day. Australian bass love a runoff. There’s thousands of them in the western lakes of the Gold Coast just waiting to feed on smaller insects being flushed down after a rain.
I remember, as a young fella here on the coast, walking along the rocky canal banks during stupid hours of the night, flicking the entrances and bridge pylons for the same fish that we’re catching now. Times have changed, but the fish haven’t. In fact, there’s more structure and lighting from bridges these days, which are bait attractants, and there are more jetties for the fish to hide and school around making it an ideal sportfishing system for many more decades to come.
See you on the water! Tight lines!

ISLAND GYPSY 40 WIDEBODY
THE SUCCESS - THE EVOLUTION
For decades, Island Gypsy Boats have been synonymous with elegance, practicality, and the perfect balance of form and function. Among their most iconic models, the Island Gypsy 40 Widebody stands out as a beacon of the brand’s ingenuity and attention to detail. This timeless vessel has won the hearts of boating enthusiasts for its spacious design, seaworthiness, and ability to cater to both casual cruisers and adventurers. As the brand continues to innovate, Island Gypsy is preparing to unveil a revolutionary new offering in the next 6-12 months, promising to solidify its place as a leader in the marine industry.
THE RISE OF THE ISLAND GYPSY 40 WIDEBODY
The Island Gypsy 40 Widebody, first introduced in 2024, has quickly became a bestseller and a fan favourite. It was designed with the serious cruiser in mind, offering exceptional space and comfort while still maintaining a practical layout. The widebody configuration maximizes interior volume, providing generous living spaces typically found on much larger vessels. This makes it perfect for families or couples looking for long-term cruising options without sacrificing comfort.
One of the standout features of the Island Gypsy 40 Widebody is its practical layout with large windows that let in plenty of natural light and offer panoramic views of the surrounding seascape.. The vessel boasts an expansive main salon galley. Below deck, the 2 cabins are equally spacious, and a head that offers comfort and functionality, even on extended voyages. The use of high-quality materials
and the new gloss timber Oak Finish exclusive to Island Gypsy really sets us apart from the rest.
Another reason for the success of the Island Gypsy 40 Widebody is its performance. The vessel's semidisplacement hull, strikes a balance between speed and stability, allowing for efficient fuel consumption and a comfortable ride. This makes the vessel well-suited for coastal adventures.
EVOLUTION IN DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY
Over the years, Island Gypsy has continued to evolve in both design and technology, maintaining its reputation as a trusted and innovative brand in the boating world. While the classic charm of the Island Gypsy 40 remains a core part of the brand’s identity, the new widebody models have embraced new materials, improved hull designs, and cutting-edge technology to meet the demands of today’s yacht owners.
In recent years, Island Gypsy has placed an increased focus on fuel efficiency and low maintenance design. Modern engines are paired with advanced propulsion systems that allow for quieter, more efficient cruising.
Technology has also played a significant role in enhancing the onboard experience. Island Gypsy has incorporated smart systems into their yachts, including integrated navigation and control systems, allowing captains to monitor all critical functions from a single screen. These systems simplify yacht operation, making it easier for owners to handle the vessel without a full crew.
Design-wise, Island Gypsy has not been afraid to experiment with more contemporary aesthetics while still retaining the classic lines that define the brand. The result is a fleet of yachts that appeal to both traditionalists and modernists alike, offering the best of both worlds. From upgraded materials to sleek finishes, today’s Island Gypsys are designed to be luxurious yet practical, perfect for the discerning yacht owner.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR ISLAND GYPSY?
As Island Gypsy continues to evolve, the brand has something extraordinary on the horizon. Over the next 6-12 months, the company is preparing to unveil something
special that is set to revolutionize the world of cruising yachts. While the details are being kept under wraps, insiders suggest that this new offering will combine cutting-edge technology with a reimagined design that pushes the boundaries of what a yacht in this class can achieve. This exciting release is expected to build on the brand’s legacy of innovation while addressing the changing needs of today’s yachting community. It’s an ambitious project that will not only raise the bar for Island Gypsy but also set a new standard for yachts in its class. As anticipation builds, the industry is buzzing with excitement for what’s to come.
WHY ISLAND GYPSY?
The success of the Island Gypsy 40 Widebody is a testament to the brand’s commitment to quality, comfort, and performance. Over the years, Island Gypsy has stayed true to its roots while evolving to meet the needs of modern yacht owners. With exciting innovations on the horizon, the brand is poised to continue its dominance in the boating world, offering unmatched quality and a cruising experience that sets it apart from the competition. Whether you're a seasoned cruiser or new to the world of boating, Island Gypsy remains a name that represents trust, luxury, and adventure—now more than ever.

WINDSCREENS MANUFACTURER
Windscreens are one of the most underappreciated parts of a boat, often unnoticed until there's a problem. Peter O’Toole, owner of Blue Water Windscreens (Aust), emphasises that boat owners need to maintain the glass, seals, and frames to ensure proper functionality.
Windscreens today can be made of acrylic, glass, or polycarbonate. While toughened glass is common in larger boats, acrylic is often the best option for cost-effectiveness, durability, and weight. Polycarbonate, though impact-resistant, scratches more easily than acrylic.
Peter prefers acrylic for its versatility and longevity, though the choice depends on customer needs. He advises that for windscreens, seals, and frames, the quality you invest in determines the results.
Most modern windscreens are also UV-tolerant, with options for tinting or green glass.
Regarding replacement, Peter advises replacing windscreens once they’re chipped or cracked, as repairs are often ineffective. Worn or leaking seals require complete disassembly and reassembly with new seals. While some attempt DIY repairs, Peter finds it more efficient to let professionals handle the job.
Blue Water Windscreens specialises in new windscreen installations, especially for trailer boats. With 20 years of experience, they cut and shape windscreens by machine or hand.
RANTIFOUL APPLICATOR AT RUNAWAY BAY MARINA
B Marine Covers, GC Antifoul and Bullet Boats form a unique all-in-one boat service centre at Runaway Bay Marina. Conveniently located on the Broadwater, it’s the ideal place to refresh your boat with any minor fibreglass repairs, annual antifouling and repair or replacement of your boat's marine covers and upholstery.
ANTIFOUL BOTTOM PAINTING - The application of a special type of paint used on the bottom of boats is designed to protect from micro-organisms that can eat away at your boat hull and reduce the efficiency of your vessel. Boat antifoul will provide a protective layer between your boat and the marine life, which usually lasts between 12 and 18 months depending on your location. In high-flow tidal areas, boat antifouling will need to be done a little more regularly than in a slow-moving tidal area due to many more micro-organisms passing by and attaching to the boat. Gold Coast Antifouling is also an agent for Propspeed propeller antifoul, which can improve your boat’s performance and economy.
MARINE COVERS AND UPHOLSTERY - The marine environment is harsh, and good quality covers will protect your boat when you are out at sea, moored, on a trailer or even in a storage facility. As a reputable marine trimmer, they only use top-quality UV-stable canvases, such as Sunbrella or Weather-Max 80 with a lifetime PTFE thread brand like Profolin, Healius or Tenara. The machinist will sew reinforced edges, finishing with a waterproofing spray to ensure there are no leaks. The team are capable of repairing or replacing; biminis, camping covers, clears, zippers, midge screens, window shields, hatch covers or even a cover for the entire boat. They can also repair or replace indoor and outdoor upholstery and bedding, throughout the boat.
HULL POLISHING - The professionally trained team also specialises in boat detailing and cleaning. All detailing packages include washing the boat from the waterline, cleaning under hatches, and all grooves and tracks. They will remove salt, bird droppings, water stains and grime. They can then buff and polish the gelcoat using a proven method of hull restoration to bring back the shine, while ensuring a protective coating.
FIBREGLASS REPAIRS - The team are skilled fibreglass repairers, able to undertake minor repairs and major boat repairs. The company is able to repair, restore, and build just about anything with fibreglass, from hulls to custom fibreglass parts. This includes minor scrapes from dock damage, to rebuilding after a major accident, and the restoration of old but reliable hulls, transoms,

floors and stringers, and they are also experienced with bow thruster installation. With spray-painters on hand, the right paint work can be applied, so your boat will look good again with new gelcoat.

Runaway Bay Pontoon Boats
THE BEST CHOICE YOU’LL MAKE
When it comes to luxury pontoon boats designed for cruising Australian waterways, Runaway Bay Pontoon Boats prove that this Aussie company can compete with — and often surpass — anything offered by overseas manufacturers. Sales consultant Craig Winch attributes the brand’s strong demand to their boats' superior build quality, customisable designs, and exceptional customer service backed by reliable local support.
“Our pontoon boats are made by Australians for Australian conditions, and that’s reflected in their durability and toughness. They’re built to meet Australian standards, and even international standards if necessary, and they’re designed to fit within standard towing widths so that customers won’t face any issues when transporting them.”
Most imported pontoon boats are designed for freshwater lakes in the USA and don’t perform well in Australia’s saltwater and choppy sea conditions. “Australia has some incredible waterways, and our boats are the perfect way to enjoy them,” Craig said. “We offer pontoon boats for survey, with various sizes and layouts to suit all needs, ranging from popular 18ft to 22ft twin-hull models to more upscale 20ft to 28ft twin- and tri-hull versions, all trailerable. Customers can select their preferred colour scheme and customise the interior fit-out, ensuring their boat suits their exact preferences.”
“These are all-day boats, designed for enjoying time on the water with family and friends, whether you’re fishing, water-skiing, wakeboarding, or simply taking a relaxing cruise. We work closely with clients to provide them with the best in sports fishing and leisure pontoon boats.”
With summer fast approaching, we have a range of pontoon boats available with motors fitted and safety gear onboard, ready to drive away.
Dreaming of your own custom boat? Call Craig at Runaway Bay Pontoon Boats to discuss your ideas. Prices start at $75,000 for a base boat, excluding motor and trailer.

Runaway Bay Pontoon Boats at Runaway Bay Marina announces the retirement of Neil Stapleton and his wife Joanne. After an impressive 41 years of dedicated service to Holmwood Highgate, the manufacturer of Runaway Bay Pontoon Boats, Neil is finally calling it a day. Throughout his career, Neil was widely regarded as the top tanker salesperson in the country. Later, he took on the role of general manager at Highgate Engineers, where he played a pivotal role in the creation of the Runaway Bay Pontoon Boats brand in 2008. He oversaw the tooling of the Highgate factory in Brisbane, where the boats are still built today.
Both Neil and Joanne became well-known faces at boat shows across Australia, firmly establishing the brand within the country's boating culture. These shows, many of which are no longer held, included prominent events such as the Southport Show Grounds, Tackle and Tinny in Brisbane, the QLD Boat Show at RNA, the ICC Convention Centre, Kawana, Mackay, Mandurah, Perth Convention Centre, the Gold Coast Turf Club, Lake Eildon in Victoria, and the Redlands Showgrounds. In one particularly active year, the team attended 13 shows, and their efforts paid off as the Runaway Bay Pontoon Boats brand gained widespread recognition and approval from the public.

From boating courses to logging sea time and understanding sea service requirements, we’re here to guide you every step of the way. Let Nautical Training & Marine Services, a registered Boatsafe Training Provider, help you chart a successful path.
a young aspiring mariner, embarked on this journey with us. Coming from a nonboating family, Jules was eager to learn the ropes of the maritime world but didn’t know where to start. After connecting with Karla from Nautical Training & Marine Services, Jules quickly found the support and expertise needed to gain valuable experience and practical training.
A PASSION FOR THE SEA, A FUTURE IN BOATING - Jules' love for the ocean was ignited during a year of homeschooling while traveling around Australia. Exploring remote fishing and diving spots with his family, Jules fell in love with the sea. From working on a crayfishing boat in Kalbarri to diving with whale sharks on Ningaloo Reef, his experiences inspired him to pursue a maritime career.
Part of this adventure was figuring out his next steps after the trip, and what career path to take. His passion for the ocean led him to Nautical Training & Marine Services, where he’s learning everything from basic boating skills to how to navigate AMSA regulations and applications.
TRAINING HIGHLIGHTS & OVERCOMING
CHALLENGES - Training with Nautical Training & Marine Services has allowed Jules to gain sea service experience on various vessels, including: 399 Quintrex Seasprite with a 25Hp Mercury (Tiller Steer), 5.8m Campion Centre Console with a 150Hp Etec, and 15m Millkraft Liveaboard Charter Vessel with 184hp Diesel Inboard.
For Jules, having access to different vessels and receiving hands-on training has been a huge highlight, expanding his knowledge and skills in ways he never thought possible. Coming from a non-boating family, this opportunity to explore multiple vessels was invaluable.
But the journey wasn’t without its challenges. When Jules was initially knocked back from deckhand work due to
his Type 1 diabetes, it was a major setback. However, thanks to Karla's guidance on the AMSA medical form and process, Jules learned that his condition wouldn’t stop him from pursuing his maritime dreams.
“Karla explained the AMSA Medical Form and process for doctors’ completion, which was a game-changer for me. Now, I know I’m fully capable of working in the marine industry, and I’m excited for the future,” says Jules.
CONFIDENCE & COURAGE TO PURSUE A DREAM -
With Karla as his mentor, Jules’ confidence has soared. He’s not only learned practical maritime skills but also gained the courage to pursue his dream of working in the marine industry. Karla’s calm, patient, and knowledgeable approach has been key to Jules’ progress.
“Having Karla as a trainer and mentor has given me the confidence to follow my passion for the ocean. Her focus on safety and encouragement has made a huge difference in my journey,” shares Jules.

Polyethylene construction ensures that the boats are not only tough but also low maintenance, allowing boaters to focus on enjoying their time on the water instead of worrying about repairs.

JOMO’s boats are also unsinkable—a feature that offers peace of mind for those venturing into deeper waters or navigating challenging conditions. The deep-V hull design, developed by a naval architect, contributes to the boat's excellent stability and buoyancy, making it easy to handle even in rough water. This design also improves fuel efficiency and provides a smoother ride, so passengers can enjoy a comfortable and stable experience regardless of the weather.
UNMATCHED VERSATILITY - Whether you’re a seasoned angler, a casual boater, or a family looking for weekend fun, the versatility of JOMO boats is one of their standout features. Thanks to the boat’s customisable design, they can be easily adapted for different activities, making them ideal for a wide range of uses.
For the fishing enthusiast, JOMO offers custom mounts for trolling motors and specialised storage options for fishing gear. The boat’s stability and ample deck space make it easy to move around while casting, ensuring that anglers have everything they need for a successful day on the water. Families, on the other hand, will appreciate the boat’s spacious interior and comfortable seating arrangements, making it perfect for picnics, swimming, or simply enjoying a day on the lake.
A FOCUS ON COMFORT - Boating should be an enjoyable experience, and JOMO places great emphasis on comfort. Each boat is designed with ergonomic seating and spacious layouts to ensure that everyone on board has a relaxing time. The deep-V hull not only enhances stability but also contributes to the boat’s smooth ride, reducing vibrations and impact from waves.
JOMO’s seating options include everything from simple bench seats to deluxe swivel chairs with
adjustable features, allowing passengers to remain comfortable during long days on the water. The console design has been streamlined to maximise interior space without clutter, giving boaters plenty of room to move around freely.
JOMO’s commitment to innovation is evident in their attention to performance details. Their boats are designed to provide a smooth, efficient ride that’s ideal for a variety of water activities. Whether you’re speeding through open water, coasting along a river, or navigating tight corners in a marina, JOMO’s performance-focused design ensures a responsive and enjoyable experience. The boats are also compatible with a range of outboard motors, giving boaters the flexibility to choose the right power setup for their specific needs.
SAFETY AND SUSTAINABILITY - At JOMO, safety is paramount. Their boats are designed to be not only unsinkable but also highly stable, providing confidence for boaters of all experience levels. JOMO boats’ polyethylene construction offers a higher degree of impact resistance than traditional materials, so you can feel secure knowing that your boat can handle the roughest of conditions.
Sustainability is also at the heart of JOMO’s design philosophy. The polyethylene material used in their boats is not only durable but also environmentally friendly. The manufacturing process is efficient, producing minimal waste, and the boats themselves are recyclable. JOMO is dedicated to ensuring that their boats are built to last, reducing the need for replacements and repairs, which in turn minimises environmental impact.
With JOMO, you’re not just buying a boat—you’re investing in a personalised experience that promises years of enjoyment on the water. www.jomo.boats

PRE-PURCHASE SURVEYS Letushelpyoudecide
Obtaining a pre-purchase survey before buying a boat provides several important benefits that can save you time, money and future headaches. Here are the key advantages:
1. UNCOVER HIDDEN ISSUES
• Structural Integrity: A pre-purchase survey can reveal any structural problems, such as hull damage, corrosion, or rot, that might not be visible to the untrained eye.
• Mechanical Condition: It includes a thorough check of the engine, electrical systems, plumbing, and other mechanical components that may have wear or potential failures.
• Safety Equipment: Surveyors ensure that safety equipment like life rafts, fire extinguishers, and bilge pumps are up to current standards and are functional.
2. INSURANCE & FINANCING REQUIREMENTS
• Most insurance companies and lenders require a current marine survey to assess the risk and determine eligibility for coverage or loans. Without a survey, you might face difficulties getting insurance or financing.
3. PEACE OF MIND
• Knowing that the boat has been professionally inspected gives you confidence in your purchase. This minimises the likelihood of expensive repairs or issues after the purchase.
• It also reduces the risk of buying a boat that isn’t seaworthy, which can be a significant safety concern.
4. NEGOTIATION TOOL
• If the survey reveals any problems, you can use this information to negotiate a lower price or request that the seller makes repairs before finalising the deal.
5. FUTURE PLANNING
• The survey often provides a maintenance forecast, helping you understand what repairs or upgrades might be needed down the road. This assists in budgeting for future expenses.
6. COMPLIANCE WITH LEGAL STANDARDS
• The survey ensures that the boat complies with maritime regulations and standards, which is especially important if you plan to use the boat for commercial purposes or in regulated waters.
7. IDENTIFYING POTENTIAL LIABILITIES
• The survey might identify environmental risks such as hazardous waste or fuel leaks, which could make you legally or financially liable if not properly addressed.
In summary, a pre-purchase survey offers protection, helps with financial decisions, ensures safety, and provides critical information about the boat's condition that may otherwise be missed. It's a small investment that can potentially save you a lot in the long run.

7 MUST-TRY EXPERIENCES SUMMER BOATING
By Andy Kancachian
The Gold Coast in Queensland is Australia’s top boating hotspot, situated halfway along the country’s east coast. With a temperate yearround climate, the Gold Coast basks in around 300 days of sunshine annually and features over 270 kilometers of navigable waterways.
With summer in full swing, you’ve likely already enjoyed some time on your boat. But have you thought about adding a bit more excitement to your trips? While tow sports, fishing, and swimming are all enjoyable, it could be the perfect moment to mix things up! Here are seven summer boating activities you simply have to try—we guarantee they’ll be fun for everyone.
1. Sightseeing and shopping by sea while traditional tourists clog up the highways and sidewalks, you'll have plenty of room to explore your favorite suburb or seaside town by boat. You’ll enjoy views of skylines that you can only experience from the water. On the Gold Coast, Pacific Fair and Runaway Bay shopping centers are accessible by boat, with berthing available at each location. Call ahead to Marina Mirage and Sanctuary Cove to arrange a berth for a few hours of shopping. A half-day cruise will take you to Raby Bay, Scarborough Harbour, and Bribie Island, where you’ll find a local town vibe, nightlife, and more shopping.
2. Going to the theatre or live music by boat after a day on Moreton Bay, cruising up the Brisbane River to spend the night at a marina is easy. Places like Dockside Marina at Kangaroo Point make a perfect base for a city adventure. Local buses are just a short walk from your marina berth, and the free KittyKat ferry stops at the marina. South Bank’s Theatre and arts district is just a few ferry stops away, so dress to the nines and enjoy a night on the town. When you return, the surrounding marina suburb is a nightlife hotspot for a final nightcap. This might be the one time when rocking the boat is encouraged!
3. Boat to a sporting event or weekend markets on Brisbane River and around Moreton Bay by arriving in style at a marina near a stadium. Enjoy some pre-event drinks onboard before heading to the game. Once you try it, you’ll see it beats sitting in traffic any day.
4. Golfing from the deck of your boat! A quick Google search will show that biodegradable golf balls, made specifically for boaters, turn into fish food once they sink. So, grab your golf clubs and tee off from the deck or a nearby shoreline. It’s a great family game and a thrill for kids too. Set up a blow-up inner tube, and whoever scores a holein-one gets to pick your next boating destination.
5. Boat camping or overnighters, there are countless camping spots right in the heart of the city's waterways, like South Currigee and Tipplers. Whether you decide to pull up on shore and pitch a tent or anchor offshore and sleep on your boat, spending the night under the stars is an unforgettable experience. Enjoy BBQ dinners, beach fires, and stargazing as you identify constellations in the night sky.
6.
Docking and dining out with your loved one as a romantic getaway you'll find everything is better on a boat—including food. While grilling and cooking onboard is a great way to spend an afternoon, tying up at your favorite dockside restaurant adds an extra layer of excitement. Public berthing is available at the
berths at Sanctuary Cove, Harrigan’s Pub at Calypso Bay, and Tipplers Cafe offer some of the best food in the city. You can also tie up at the public dock at Aqua Labrador, grab your takeaway order, and dine onboard. Further north, Scarborough harbour has the best fish and chips on Moreton Bay, and a few
7. Sunset Cruises with a sundowner. With an uninterrupted view across to the land, the sunset over the city and east coast landscape serves as the perfect backdrop for a sundowner. Mother Nature never disappoints! A sundowner is a special drink (alcoholic or not) shared with other boaters at sundown. It’s a chance to relax in the cockpit, chat while the sun goes down, and enjoy an event that everyone out for the night looks forward to. Bring your own drinks and some nibbles to share.
A reminder that boating isn’t just about these wonderful destinations, it’s a way of life, so if you never get

DrinkDriving and Marine Licensing in Queensland
Any mariner worth their salt knows that alcohol and boats are not a good mix. Many marine incidents are attributable to the consumption of alcohol by one or more of the masters involved. Such incidents are even more regrettable because they would likely not have occurred if alcohol was not involved.
Like their land counterparts, marine authorities continue to be frustrated by the occurrence of incidents, damage to property, injuries and fatalities that have alcohol as a root cause. This frustration has resulted in the strict regulation of the use of alcohol by persons in charge of a vessel, which can result in heavy fines and loss of marine licences.
The loss of a marine licence is an embarrassment and an inconvenience to recreational boaties, but is a catastrophic loss of livelihood to the maritime professional. In this article, we briefly examine the legal processes behind a marine drink driving offence, and the potential consequences for boaties and marine professionals.
WHAT IS MARINE DRINK DRIVING?
In Queensland, the law for operating boats while intoxicated is the same for driving cars. Section 79 (1) of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995 (the Act), makes it an offence for a person who is under the influence of liquor or a drug to drive a motor vehicle, tram, train or vessel. Vessel is defined under the act to include ships, boats, or any kind of vessel designed for use in navigation whatever the means of its propulsion. This definition has been interpreted very broadly by the courts, almost to the extent that if a person is in control of anything on the water, that person must not be under the influence of liquor.
The allowable blood alcohol content is generally the same for cars – .05 Blood Alcohol Concentration or BAC. However, if you are in control of a commercial passenger vessel, the allowable BAC is zero.
WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES?
You must go to court after being caught for any drink driving offence, including marine offences. If found guilty by the magistrate, a person charged with marine drink driving will likely be fined and be disqualified from driving a vessel for a period of time. The severity of the fine and length of disqualification will depend on the circumstances, such as previous convictions and traffic history, and the maximum penalty is dependent on the BAC.
For example, a typical BAC reading of .075 could result in a maximum fine of $1774.30 (11 penalty points), where a high-level BAC of over .15 could result in a fine of $3548.60 (22 penalty points), or jail time. A conviction may affect international tickets and working abroad.
CAN MY RECREATIONAL MARINE LICENCE BE CANCELLED OR SUSPENDED?
Your marine licence cannot be cancelled or suspended by the court as a result of a motor vehicle infringement. However, the court may disqualify you from holding a Queensland-issued marine licence if you are convicted of marine drink driving under section 79 (drink driving), or section 80 (refusing to provide breath sample) of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act. If your Queensland marine licence is cancelled or suspended, all of your Queensland issued marine licences are affected.
If disqualified, you will be provided with an order which you must present to a Transport and Main Roads Department office in order to remove the RMDL or PWCL indicator on your licence.
If you disagree with the disqualification, the order can be appealed or you may apply for a restricted marine licence.
WHAT ABOUT A COMMERCIAL MARINE LICENCE?
Most commercial marine licences in Queensland are issued by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) pursuant to the Marine Safety (Domestic Commercial Vessel) National Law Act 2012 (the National Law). National Law licences are commercial Certificates of Competency such as Near Coastal Coxswain, Master and Marine Engine Driver.
The courts do not yet have jurisdiction to make orders about drink driving on Commonwealth Marine Licences, so there is no power for a magistrate to give orders to cancel or suspend a National Law marine licence.
Readers should note, however, that a marine drink driving offence is likely to be notified to Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ). MSQ may write to AMSA to seek the suspension or cancellation of a National Law Certificate of Competency on the basis that a convicted person is no longer a fit and proper person to hold a commercial marine licence. If AMSA chooses to take any action in response to a request by MSQ, there will be an opportunity for the licence holder to present their case pursuant to a fair process laid down in that National Law and Marine Order 505.
SO, WHAT ARE THE KEY
MESSAGES?
If you return a positive breath test while in control of a boat in Queensland, you will most likely be charged and will be summonsed to attend court. It is likely that you will be fined, and your marine licence may be in jeopardy. If you hold a Queensland recreational boat licence, the court may disqualify you from holding that licence for a period of time, or MSQ may ask you to show cause why your licence should not be cancelled or suspended.
An expert legal representative can often engage with the magistrate to reduce the fine and period of disqualification, or make representations to MSQ concerning any show cause notice for suspension or cancellation.
If you hold a commercial licence, the magistrate in Queensland has no power to suspend or disqualify. However, MSQ will be notified and may ask AMSA to act against your licence. For any action to be taken, the regulator must demonstrate that the circumstances of the drink driving conviction indicate that you are no longer a fit and proper person to hold a commercial marine licence.
In this instance, the early appointment of a maritime lawyer can dramatically enhance the prospects of convincing AMSA that the commercial licence should not be suspended.

NEW RIGID INFLATABL E BOAT SHOWROOM OPENS ON GOLD COAST
Grand Inflatable Boats, a leading European manufacturer of luxury rigid inflatable boats and tenders, have officially opened the doors to their new boat showroom on the Gold Coast.
The premium RIB brand, who specialise in centre console fibreglass RIBs and tenders from 3 to 8.5 metres, announced their arrival in Australia earlier this year, and have since welcomed the entire Grand range into the region, now available to view at their Gold Coast head office.
Grand was founded 23 years ago in Ukraine and currently operates in over 40 countries worldwide. The brand is internationally renowned for the distinctive styling, superior craftsmanship, and functional design ethos of their boats. Moving away from the customarily utilitarian appearance of RIBs, Grand’s purposeful practicality adds to their contemporary styling and underpins the angular, sleek lines of their modernized range of rigid inflatable boats.
Grand’s versatile choice of RIBs range from luxury yacht tenders, high-performance sports boats, fishing RIBs, family cruiser boats and commercial RIBs – all of which can now be viewed in-person or virtually at the newly-opened dealership in Arundel.
Here, customers can enjoy a high-end boat viewing experience, peruse brand merchandise, and test the boats out for themselves on sea trials. Customers are also able to sit down with the sales team and create a boat entirely tailored to suit their preference, from the styling of upholstery and flooring, to the inclusion of onboard extras such as an electric toilet, fridge or sink & shower system, and the colour of their tubes, flooring and cushions – down to the very colour of the material stitching itself.
Daniel Arscott, sales director for Grand Boats Australia, expressed his delight at the interest the brand has seen already: “Since opening our doors not too long ago, we’ve seen really positive levels of interest, in particular for our tenders and our sports model – the D600. With several sales already in the region, we believe Grand has the potential be an exciting new option for individuals and families looking for a leisure boat that offers both comfortable cruising and luxury amenities.”
Grand’s latest model – the Grand G680 – is projected to be a particularly popular choice for families looking for a boat that trailers easily and cruises comfortably in all conditions. This centre console 6.8m (22ft) craft is fitted with a fridge-freezer, freshwater sink, tap & shower system, wet bar & extensive sun bed areas; a combination of features that are hard to come by in midsize vessels of this size.
Perfect for those in search of elevated comforts, superior quality, optimised handling on the water, and a comfortable ride for all passengers, Grand Boats pride themselves on their practical design approach and their distinctive, contemporary styling.
The brand has also aligned themselves with Yamaha as their outboard partner of choice for the Australian market, as well as Garmin as their chosen electronic partner.
With boats in stock and ready for the upcoming summer boating season, their Gold Coast showroom is open now for visitors to experience the brand firsthand and explore the world of contemporary rigid inflatable boating.

Celebrating Classic Speedboats
The North Coast Speedboat Classics Inaugural Show Day
The North Coast Speedboat Classics held their inaugural Show Day at Garage 25 Car Museum and Espresso Twenty5 Café, located at The Boat Works. This event brought together enthusiasts of classic speedboats, with a focus on raising the profile of these beautiful vessels. The club, which boasts over 5,000 members, hosts regular events and river runs throughout the year.
“We started the group in 2017 after struggling to find an existing community that shared our interest in enjoying social outings with classic boats, rather than focusing on racing or single-make boat groups. Our only requirement is that the boats must be 30 years or older,” said founders Narelle and Jeff Reardon. The couple has a deep-rooted family tradition of boat ownership, having skied on the water since childhood. They were part of the massive boating culture of the 1970s when it seems nearly every family would spend weekends out on the water.
The event showcased around 30 classic boats from 24 different brands. Some standout examples included a
HydroSteam Vector, imported and restored by Narelle and Jeff, which is the only one of its kind in Australia. Also notable was a restored Adventure Craft TD race boat, one of only a few ever built and fitte d with an original Mercury XS 150 HP racing outboard, a hand-built 1928 replica of a 22' HackerCraft, and a hand built timber Fletcher "Skimmer". Lewis boats were represented with "Wild Cat" a beautifully restored labour of love project. "Miss Moneypenny" a 1964 original Col Kliese has been in the same family since new and was on show.
Adding to the collection was an 11'7" Haines Spyder, "Tiger Hunter"—winner of an Australian Championship and one of the first John Haines-built boats. It was saved from being scrapped. A 1978 Bullet 1750 Streaker 200, originally raced by Don Bannings, was also on display. The lineup also featured Everinghams, Hammond Boats, including the well-known "Ruby" owned and built by Mark Hammond, who was present and is the son of the original builder. Other standouts included boats by Swift Craft, one of which had been towed to the show by the legendary Rod Hay from central Victoria, Savage, Bearcraft and a Sawcraft.
“We love bringing people together to share their passion for these older boats,” said Jeff, group president. “Members often reconnect with people they haven’t seen in decades. While we don’t race, it can be hard to contain the excitement for some drivers.”
Jeff began restoring classic speedboats in 2015 and has restored nine different models so far, with two more awaiting their turn. Though he no longer races cars and bikes, a former passion, he still enjoys taking classic speedboats out on the water.
“This is a dream day for classic boat lovers,” added Jeff. “There was so much to see, including Tony Longhurst’s incredible collection of vintage and classic cars, as well as plenty of food and entertainment.”
Classic boat enthusiasts appreciate the craftsmanship and unique character of these older vessels and motors. Owning one of these boats attracts likeminded individuals who share a love for boats from an earlier era. There’s also great satisfaction in rescuing an old boat from the scrap heap.
The following day, the group launched their boats from Gold Coast's Santa Barbara boat ramp, cruising to Paradise Point beach for a lunch stop.
The Boat Works invited the group to nominate a charity for their donation box, with all donations going to Demen tia Australia.

ANCHORED RIGHT QUALITY AUSSIE PRODUCTS
Anchor Right and Bar Crusher Boats have enjoyed a mutually beneficial business relationship for over 20 years. Ever since Rex Francis, founder of Anchor Right, and Peter Cleland, co-founder of Bar Crusher Boats, met at a boat show over two decades ago.
Peter was at the show not only to promote his boats but also to find a high quality, strong, highly effective anchor to suit the boats his company was building.
Rex reminisces, “Peter was motivated to check out other anchors at that boat show because he hadn’t found anything satisfactory at that stage to hold for Westernport Bay where they were filming to advertise their boats.” Of course, Rex was at the show to promote his business and he offered Peter a couple of his anchors to try out.
Peter points out that his company did its due diligence, trying a variety of other sizes and types of anchors, before deciding on Anchor Right. He was so impressed with their performance that his company placed an order – and have stuck with Anchor Right ever since. Thus began a business relationship and personal friendship that lasts until this day.
“Every boat that leaves the Bar Crusher factory has a SARCA anchor mounted on its nose,” says Peter.
Peter has actually dived to the seabed to observe closely how the anchors set and has been impressed that they work as intended and advertised.
Apart from the strong build and highly effective operation of Rex’s SARCA anchors, Peter likes the way that the anchors fit snugly to the bowsprit – not flopping around like some anchors on the market – and there was no danger of them coming loose when the boat was being trailered down a highway.
Recently, Rex and Peter met to reminisce about getting their businesses off the ground – or perhaps, more appropriately, on the water – and their common interests of boating and fishing.
As they chatted, the topic of anchoring in Western Port Bay, Victoria, arose. Peter recalls that, in the early days of Bar Crusher Boats, they wanted to take promotional photos in the bay and needed the boats to be securely anchored in a variety of locations. But the anchors being used at the time were not fit for purpose. The seabed in the bay with its areas of reef, gravel or weed meant that, at the time, no single anchor would work under all conditions.
Rex was reminded of when he would take his family fishing at Corner Inlet, north of Wilsons Promontory, which needs three older style anchors for the different conditions – a plough, reef and a sand anchor –depending on where you decide to stop and drop a line.
He also recalls, with some horror, when he was using a wire anchor off Rabbit Island in Bass Strait – he was
advised to use a wire anchor because a different type “might get stuck and you’ll never get it back”. Rex says, “The wind got up and the waves got up, and the anchor failed.” The boat, with family on board, was heading for the rocks and Rex was lucky to pull them out in time.
Afterwards he thought, “What’s more important –retrieving an anchor, or preserving your lives?”
Those types of experiences inspired Rex to design and build a better anchor. He says that, although no product is going to work in all conditions, Anchor Right goes a long way further towards achieving that goal than other anchors on the market.
Rex says that the average boatie is often unaware or unsure of how best to deploy, set, and eventually retrieve their anchors – compounding the problems presented if a lesser quality or improperly engineered product is being used.
In the interests of boating safety, Anchor Right endeavoured to get word out to the boating community on correct anchoring techniques. The Water Police and Coast Guard came on board, adding information on anchor rope ratios and printing educational booklets (from which Anchor Right benefitted indirectly as their products appeared!). So, word spread, boaties became better informed and quality products were used properly.
Peter believes the Bar Crusher name “captures the vibe of hardcore, passionate anglers who want to get out there offshore and have a good go.” And Anchor Right has the products to help keep them safe.
Rex and Peter agree that mutual support of Australian companies for each other helps ensure the survival and success of Australian jobs and businesses – a far better result than importing cheaper, often inferior quality overseas products.

What's Your Boat Identity
By Andy Kancachian
I f you care about how people perceive you, then it's time to seriously think about your next boat purchase. Here’s some general information, stereotypes, and biased opinions. So, don’t write to our editor if you’re offended — instead, try to have a good laugh. And if you’re still upset, maybe grab a beer or take a nap.
Is your boat a shiny pair of Nike sneakers, or is it more like cowboy boots? Like your favourite pair of footwear, your boat makes a statement. So, what does it say about you?
We analyse local Gold Coast boating enthusiasts to understand how they see themselves as captains and what their boats say about them.
FISHING BOAT
Fishermen are masters of the sea, experts at finding the right conditions, using the best tackle, and knowing the habits of different species. They’re usually helpful when they can be, but at the end of the day, they’re on a mission: to catch that elusive target. Much like gold prospectors, they won’t stop until they’ve achieved their goal. Talk to any recreational fisherman, and most will tell you they’re living the dream. Their only real complaint? Not enough time to fish.
Their rigs range from expensive centre consoles to budget-friendly half cabins with screw-on rod holders. They might look scruffy and speak in jargon, but generally, they’re the good guys on the water. Just don’t get in their way.
SAILING BOAT
Sailing is usually a family tradition, a generational art and attitude. With a vast array of technical terms for equipment and methods, sailors exhibit great bravery and an even greater sense of adventure. They’re the only boaters who teeter on the edge of capsizing and push themselves and their vessels to the limit in speed and bad weather.
Sailors range from humble working-class families in small overnight boats to the wealthiest individuals navigating their floating homes from one idyllic anchorage to the next. They all share a deep understanding of nature and a passion for harnessing its power. Sailors are generally polite, sometimes snobbish, and incredibly diverse, with fascinating stories to tell.
PONTOON BOAT
The pontoon boat is a versatile watercraft, chosen for its practicality and ease of use. Some owners are first-time boaters, while middle-aged and older folks love the walkon decks, especially those who live on the waterfront with residential pontoons. Being trailerable with a large carrying capacity, they’re great for family outings.
Pontoon boat owners are often looking for a social experience rather than worrying about their image. They want all the extra s without paying too much and prioritize comfort over style. While they love the idea of the great outdoors, they also enjoy returning home to the comfort of an air-conditioned bedroom and a pillow-top mattress.
YACHT
Yachts are typically o wned by those who can afford them — often self-employed individuals or retirees enjoying the fruits of their labour. Let’s be honest, motor yachts are rich people’s boats. They’re not concerned with what boating enthusiasts think of them, and they’re not interested in the complexities of sailing.
The motor yacht is the most comfortable option, big enough to feel like a living room, complete with all the amenities like a big-screen TV, kitchen, and crew quarters. And when you want a new view, just pull up anchor, fire up the engines, and cruise to the next destination at speed.
JET SKI
Jet skis offer an accessible entry point to our waterways, but they’re not ideal for family outings if you want to spend all day out on the water with gear. Jet skis are easier to handle than boats, which is part of their appeal. Jet skiers are to the boating world what “P-platers” are to drivers on the road. Sure, there are some good ones, but even they’ll admit they’re outnumbered by the hoons who give everyone heart-stopping moments.
Tattoos are optional but common, and many jet skiers have a loose grasp of marine etiquette. Depending on the age of the ski and the ride r’s experience, you may very well end up rescuing
one. If you like going fast, around in circles with no destination in mind, then a jet ski is for you.
WAKE BOAT
Wakeboarders are thrill-seekers, adrenaline junkies who enjoy high speeds and towing stunts. They embrace the X Games lifestyle, earning themselves a distinct spot on the social ladder among boaters. Wake boats create large wakes that often draw attention from other boats and irate waterfront homeowners.
No boaters dive into their lifestyle quite as deeply as wake boat owners. They’ve got all the gear: jackets, boards, ropes, and it’s usually all in black. Whether it’s water skiing, wakeboarding, or wake surfing, this type of boat offers performance, versatility, value, and the cool factor of a backward baseball cap.
TINNY
There are three main types of tinny (or dinghy) owners: the yacht tender user, the budget-conscious fisho, and the dreaded “tinny rat.” The first is respectful and thoughtful, often seen scooping
up trash from the waterways. The fishing tinny is a great starting point for new boaters. They’re easy to tow and manoeuvre, and in Queensland, they can access shallow areas. Just make sure you’ve got a bimini for sun protection, and don’t fish in the main channels with all the other tinnies.
The “tinny rat” is a reckless, often under-aged nuisance on the waterways, causing havoc and endangering themselves and others. But hey, we were all young once, right?
We could stereotype boat owners all day. We all have our biases, and we often find those different from us amusing or even ridiculous. But most of us can agree on one thing: jet skiers and tinny rats could use a little more supervision. And let's be honest — we’d all probably like to retire on a bigger boat, whether motor or sail, as long as it’s perfect for hosting the ideal sundowner.

MONACO 110
At 11.2 metres (33 feet), the latest boat of the Parker range of sports cruisers in collaboration with the acclaimed designer, Tony Castro, makes an impression in the family market for its features and value for money. Winner of the prestigious Best of Boats Awards in the category ‘Best for Family’, the Parker Monaco 110 is a sporty, high-performance outboard boat from the innovative Polish brand.
Made using Twin Step Infusion technology (TSI), the Parker hull differentiates Parker boats from the competition. This innovative technology involves vacuum infusion during moulding, vinyl ester, sandwich cores, and multiaxial reinforcement to save weight, increase stiffness, and improve comfort. The hull features two steps to reduce friction, planing threshold and consumption, and also to enhance acceleration and increase top speeds by as much as 15 percent.
For information: (02) 8084 2747 www.nautilusaustralia.com.au HIGHLY AWARDED & OFFERING FAMILIES WAY MORE FOR THEIR MONEY THAN THE STANDARD 11-METRE CRUISER.
In Europe, the Parker range is the choice of water police and marine biologists undertaking research expeditions.
They are known as ‘big small boats’ because of their spacious cockpits, clever convertible seating and myriad features that make them the perfect boat for a day, or a weekend on the water.
The Monaco 110 is positioned as a versatile all-rounder with “space and pace” to please everybody and the latest outboard designs that deliver proven efficiency, performance and lighter weight than their inboard competitors.
Raising the outboards allows the props and legs to clear the water, reducing the need to antifoul them and reducing maintenance costs, you can also reverse up to a beach.
Among the profusion of family-friendly features is the unique sunbed arrangement that covers the outboard engines, providing practical leisure space and attenuating noise for guests while underway. The seat/sunbed slides aft, thus increasing the cockpit area, and forward when you need to tilt up the engines.
On deck, guests can spread out over a large seating area with a drinks-cooler fridge accessible from the cockpit, flowing into the saloon and galley, with a well-equipped kitchen and dinette with seating for up to six people. The large foredeck is a great place to relax, with convertible sunpads/lounges.
Inside, the Parker Monaco 110 boasts the equivalent layout of any classic inboard boat and huge advantages in some respects. Glazing plays a huge role in creating the feeling of space and connection to the water. A sliding glass roof and another sliding canvas skylight over the cockpit area add to the open feel. Other notable features are the helm side door for optimal vision and convenient access to the wide walk-around decks, and the topside door for easy boarding onto the boat from a marina berth.
Accessed by companionway are two good-sized cabins, the master in the bow which has plenty of headroom,
storage and large wraparound windows, and the second double bedroom which would equally suit adults or kids. Adjacent is the bathroom with separate full-size shower, WC and vanity, as well as the characteristic windows for views and ventilation.
The boat is fitted with twin 300hp outboards, for sparkling speeds, and a comprehensive list of additional equipment.
Overall, Parker Monaco 110 has a very sleek modern design, practical and functional for a price that will surprise and delight you.
Atender is a small boat used primarily for transporting people and supplies between a larger vessel (the parent ship) and the shore or another ship. Specific regulations define a tender as a boat that is not a lifeboat, is 6 metres or less in length, and is smaller than the parent ship. Its purpose is strictly to transport goods and people, not for fishing or sightseeing.
The rules regarding tenders can vary across different states and regions. For instance, tenders must stay within a defined distance of their parent vessel, in Queensland, this distance is 2 nautical miles (nm). A tender may not need registration if it complies with certain restrictions, such as being under 6 metres in length and operating within the designated distance from the main vessel. Additionally, tenders powered by an outboard engine of 3kW (4hp) or less, or those powered by an engine over 3kW but operating within 2nm, are often exempt from registration.
For identification purposes, tenders must display the word "tender" along with the registration number of the parent vessel. These markings should be at least 75mm high on the exterior of the boat. If exterior marking is not possible, large characters can be placed inside the boat. In cases where the tender serves multiple vessels, it can be marked with the owner's name.
It's crucial to remember that different states may impose different rules. Boaters who frequently travel between states should ensure their tender meets the registration and identification requirements across all areas they plan to visit.
BUYING THE PERFECT
TENDER FOR YOUR BOAT
By AK Tucker
CHOOSING THE RIGHT TENDER
When selecting the ideal tender, it is crucial to consider how and where it will be used. Several factors must be taken into account before making a purchase.
First, evaluate the tender's weight to ensure that your larger vessel can support it. Next, check if its dimensions comply with the size regulations in your area. Consider the tender's capacity for passengers and cargo, as well as where it will be stored when not in use. Think about the intended usage—whether the tender will be operated in calm waters or more challenging, choppy conditions. The material of the tender plays a key role in its durability and ease of maintenance. Also, ensure that the tender has proper flotation and stability to keep it safe on the water. Assess how easy it is to repair in case of damage and consider the size of the motor required, as well as the fuel capacity of your larger vessel. Additional factors include the tender's long-term durability, safety features, and ease of maintenance, all of which should be matched to your specific needs. Different types of tenders may be more appropriate depending on your situation.
TYPES OF TENDERS
Tenders generally fall into three categories:
1. Rigid-sided tenders: These are made from materials like plastic, fibreglass, or aluminium. They are durable and can handle rougher conditions.
2. Inflatable tenders: These are lightweight and easy to store. They are ideal for short trips in calm waters but may not be suitable for heavier loads or rougher conditions.
3. Rigid-bottom inflatables: Combining the durability of a rigid tender with the portability of an inflatable, these tenders are versatile and often preferred for a mix of light and moderate use.
For light use, such as short trips on calm waters, an inflatable tender is sufficient. For more demanding tasks like transporting larger groups or navigating open water, a rigid-sided or rigid-bottom inflatable may be more appropriate. Boaters with larger yachts or cruisers
often opt for tenders around 3.3 metres in length. These can accommodate four people and are sturdy enough for more extended trips. Tenders can be lifted onto the deck using a crane or davit, or stored between the hulls of catamarans. If space is limited, a flat-bottom inflatable is a good compromise for long voyages.
PROPULSION OPTIONS
When choosing how to power your tender, the two most common options are:
• Oars: Ideal for short distances and when simplicity is preferred.
• Electric Motors: Quiet and eco-friendly, electric motors are great for short distances and calm waters. However, they require charging either through a power source or solar panels.
• Petrol Motors: Lightweight and easy to handle, petrol outboards do not require recharging. They are widely available from reputable manufacturers and are a reliable choice for longer distances.
FINAL DECISION
Choosing the right tender involves careful consideration of your specific needs and how you intend to use it. Factors such as the size of your parent vessel, the conditions you'll face, and the distance you'll travel are all crucial in making the best decision. Your local tender dealer will discuss your specific requirements and recommend models that best satisfy those needs.

TINCREASING CAPACITY AT The Boat Works
he Boat Works has added more premium structu res and services, making it truly the worldclass resort for every boat.
Aimed at accommodating more and larger vessels to meet increasing demand, fourteen 35-metre berths have been added to the existing service berth marina. Four of these massive berths will be undercover watersheds in what is a groundbreaking innovation and the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere.
The Boat Works’ Tony Longhurst is leading the marine facility into a new era of service, pioneering these revolutionary in-water, undercover chutes which represent a game changing advance for the Australian marine industry. At 100-metre long, the on-water chutes “Watersheds” will provide controlled working environments for all projects, with privacy and protection from the elements.
Superyacht owners/managers will be assured of fewer delays and more efficient schedules, with no need to haul out as all works can be completed on-water, with stringent environmental protocols in place.
“The watersheds are equal to the most advanced facilities in the US and Europe an d will elevate our offering to the next level,” said Tony Longhurst.
“The demand is already here,” he continued. “Our motto has always been propelling forward, and this new development is testament to our commitment to attract the world’s superyacht fleet to our shores, guaranteeing work for our skilled marine trade businesses across the site here in the Coomera Marine Precinct – all small businesses that are prospering, expanding and hiring more people.”
Following the success of “The Dock” development, a second boutique precinct called “The Wharf” is now home to brokerage specialists, dealers and superyacht service agencies, including Baglietto Australia (GLI), Chapman, Selene Yachts Australia and Horizon Yacht Australia.
In early 2025, a new variable width 100-Tonne Marine Travelift will take the total count to six. With four-wheel steering and a beam capacity up to 9.65-metres, the new machine will assist with vessels up to 100-tonnes, including wide-beam multihulls.
CEO of Superyacht Australia, David Good, commented on The Boat Works’ next phase of development, saying “The demand for berths and refit facilities is already here."
THERE IS A LACK OF ADEQUATE BERTHING FOR SUPERYACHTS.
The Boat Works is providing superyacht infrastructure in line with the updated Queensland Superyacht
Strategy, which has been extended by five years to 2028, predicting that ‘the Australian superyacht sector will have grown by 90 percent and Queensland will be world recognised as a major superyacht hub in the Asia-Pacific region’.
According to the government strategy, “This growth is expected to create thousands of new highly skilled jobs across the state and contribute hundreds of millions of dollars to the state’s economy.”
“There is urgent need for infrastructure, and for the state government to streamline processes to support shipyards. With the addition of nine new superyacht berths, Tony Longhurst is investing in facilities that support the 2028 Superyacht Strategy priorities and create thousands of jobs, now and into the next decade.”
Tony Longhurst commented, “Over 100 tenants now call The Boat Works home. The Boat Works is a hive of activity and a magnet for businesses who are all employing young apprentices and experienced trades.
“The maintenance of these visiting vessels provides jobs for hundreds of small businesses in south-east Queensland. The economic flow-on is phenomenal! More boats mean more jobs.”

TIPS FOR BUYING A CRUISER
By AK Tucker
When setting out to purchase a luxury sports cruiser, many buyers may find the process more complex than buying a car. With numerous makes and models available, each appearing equally capable, the decision can be daunting. While there isn't a perfect sports cruiser, there is likely one that will be perfect for you.
By carefully analysing your needs, you can narrow your search and find a vessel that suits you best. Start by conducting thorough research through magazines, online forums, or other reliable sources. Speak with current owners of the boat models you're considering and gather feedback. The dealer you purchase from is just as crucial as the boat itself, particularly when considering used boats. It's essential to research the boat's history and invest in a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified expert.
Size is a significant factor when choosing a cruiser, especially if you plan to stay on board overnight. For a family of four, a boat of at least 28 feet is recommended, offering features like a traverse bunk for children and a forward bed for parents. If the boat will be used by just two adults, a double bunk or bed should suffice. Generally, the wider the boat, the more stable it will be both at rest and underway. A wide-beam cruiser also offers more internal space. For boats with a deep vee hull of 20 degrees or more, a width of at least 2.8 meters is recommended.
This width provides stability and adequate internal space but may limit the boat's ability to be trailered.
Several features can enhance your cruising experience. Hardtop vessels, though more expensive and potentially hotter during summer, offer longevity compared to canvas tops, which may need replacing every decade. A walk-through windscreen allows easy access to the bow, avoiding the need to navigate narrow sides. An anchor winch is essential for safety and convenience, especially in rough seas, as it prevents the risk of falling overboard while manually retrieving the anchor.
For those docking in tight marina spaces, a bow thruster can be a valuable addition, particularly for single-engine cruisers. It's also important to ensure the boat's water tank capacity meets your needs, with around 20 litres of water required per person per day for basic activities like showering and washing dishes. Additionally, ventilation, sufficient battery storage, and essential amenities like a sink, cooler, seating, and a transom shower will contribute to a more comfortable experience.
Engine choice is another critical consideration. It's advisable to select the maximum horsepower recommended by the manufacturer, as a larger engine will handle a fully loaded boat more efficiently. For cruisers under 29 feet, a single large engine, such as a 5.7-litre V8 or 150 hp outboard, should suffice. Larger boats generally require twin engines for adequate power and handling.
Stern drive engines, with their shallow draft, are ideal for navigating the sand-banked waterways of the Gold Coast, allowing you to anchor close to shore. However, keep in mind that running costs increase with speed, with an ideal cruising speed of 22 to 25 knots providing a balance between comfort and fuel efficiency. The recent design trend by many manufacturers is a cruiser powered by either single or twin outboard engines, improving efficienc y and maintenance costs. You should also factor in to your decision annual servicing costs, including hull antifouling and hull polishing.
When deciding between a new or used boat, new boats offer the advantage of customisation and factory warranties. Used boats, while potentially riskier, offer significant savings. It's crucial to research thoroughly and consider a boat's history when buying used.
Finally, the dealer plays a vital role in ensuring a trouble-free boating experience. It's important to understand their after-sales service and maintenance fee structures. Requesting customer referrals and insisting on a sea trial can provide valuable insights into the boat's performance and the dealer's support, helping you make an informed decision.
Lessons Learned from 30 Years of
CLEANING BOAT TANKS
Over three decades of cleaning boat tanks has taught us what many boat owners don’t realize until it’s too late—and very costly.
If I had a dollar for every time a conversation started with, “I just bought a boat,” I’d be relaxing on one instead of cleaning tanks. Boat tanks are among the hardest to clean due to their complex construction, tricky locations, and poor design—often with little to no access. The main source of fuel contamination? Water. Surrounded by water, boats inevitably face issues due to faulty caps, seals, or vents. Additionally, in humid environments, condensation forms on internal tank surfaces not covered by fuel. With water weighing 1 kg per litre, diesel weighing 840 grams, and petrol weighing 740 grams, condensation naturally collects at the bottom of non-pressurized tanks.
Airborne soil spores also enter tanks through natural breathing (expansion and contraction of the air space). These spores are harmless until they come into contact with water, which promotes germination. Spores thrive in heat, much like yeast. Diesel engines, which return up to five litres of fuel per minute back into the tank at high temperatures, create the perfect environment for spores to grow faster.
Another major contaminant, aside from condensation, is fungal material known as "Black Death," which, along with water, often migrates from bulk storage tanks due to poor maintenance at service stations, marinas, or truck stops. If your tank is made from plastic, fibreglass, stainless steel, or aluminum, and you're seeing rusty water in your filter, it likely came with the fuel you purchased.
Cladosporium Resinae (or "Clad") is the technical term for the microbial material that forms at the fuelwater interface. It originates from one or more of the 140+ airborne spores attracted to hydrocarbons during the tank's natural breathing process. Slimy and sticky like cotton candy, Clad weighs just 1 kg per cubic metre. This means that simply draining or polishing the fuel won’t prevent blocked filters or damage to fuel pumps and injectors.
Boat tanks often have multiple baffles, and Clad will cling to these in areas that are hard to access,
even with inspection hatches. The colloquial term for Clad, "Black Death," highlights how destructive it is. Fuel doctors often refer to it as the "cancer of the fuel system" because it is tough to eradicate once it takes hold. Much like cancer treatment, you must follow a strict treatment regime to eliminate it.
Our Fuel Doctor solution is a detergent-based formula designed to clean hard-to-reach areas in fuel tanks by breaking water and microbial material into sub-micron particles. These are then suspended in the fuel and combusted harmlessly. Two dispersants handle the organic cleaning, supported by a proprietary upper-cylinder lubricity additive that protects pumps and injectors during combustion.
Feel free to call us at 1800-675-077 for expert advice on fuel system maintenance.

Sergio Perez. This blend of celebrity and sustainability showcases the growing potential of electric boat racing.
The Racebird boats, designed by Seabird Technologies, are powered by 150 kW electric motors with 35 kWh Kreisel batteries. These 7-metre foiling vessels represent cutting-edge marine propulsion. The Como race, set on a five-lap course, presented pilots with unique challenges, offering thrilling moments as boats utilised energy boosts.
A highlight of the E1 series is its commitment to gender equality. Each team fields both a male and female pilot. Cris Lazarraga of Team Rafa, the only female pilot in the Como final, helped her team secure second place.
Celebrity owners like Will Smith and Rafael Nadal are more than just figureheads; they actively promote innovation and sustainability. Despite a tough race at Como, Brady’s team remains a dominant force as the championship approaches its final leg.
With one race weekend left, the competition heats up, with Team Brady leading, but Westbrook Racing closing in. The E1 series is proving electric boating’s potential to captivate fans and drive sustainable marine technology forward. www.e1series.com

Here’s a hint: it’s all about the rivets and welds.
If you've ever noticed, airplane structures are riveted, not welded, and there’s a good reason for that. Welding aluminum can reduce the material’s strength by over 50%, while rolling aluminum creates stress points that can weaken over time. Airplane wings, in particular, need flexibility to handle the forces they experience during flight. Riveting provides the necessary strength and durability without compromising the material.
Swiftco applies this same aerospace engineering principle to their aluminum trailers. Designed by a former Aerospace Engineer and Finite Element Analysis Consultant for Boeing, Airbus, and other major companies, Swiftco trailers use riveted construction, avoiding the weak points caused by welding or rolling aluminum.
KEY BENEFITS OF SWIFTCO TRAILERS:
• Superior Strength: Swiftco’s joint design uses two 6mm thick mild steel plates, creating a 12mm thick joint.
• Tested Durability: Each joint is tested to withstand over 4000kg of load, with total trailer strength exceeding 8000kg—far above the required 4500kg by Australian Design Rules.
• Aerospace-Grade Design: No rolled aluminum is used, following the same principles used in constructing aircraft like the Boeing 747.
• 6-Year Warranty: Swiftco offers an industry-leading 6-year frame warranty, providing greater peace of mind than many car warranties.
During a recent visit to Swiftco’s manufacturing facility on the Gold Coast, I observed the construction of their impressive 4500kg-rated, tri-axle, 8-metre SharkCat trailer with a DeeMaxx braking system. The aluminum beams they use are T6 temper, with a strength range of 380MPa to 500MPa, ensuring a solid frame. Swiftco builds these trailers on-site, with a team of skilled professionals. They were also constructing a 10-metre trailer for a client in PNG and a 6.9-metre trailer for a medical ship in Indonesia.
WHY CHOOSE SWIFTCO?
• Custom Design: Built to your specific requirements— whether you need bunks (skids) or rollers.
• Direct Communication: As a family-run Australian business, you can speak directly to Marcus Gardner, the owner, customising your trailer to meet your exact needs.
• Affordability: With no middleman involved, Swiftco trailers are competitively priced, whether you choose their aluminum or hot-dipped galvanised models.

TRAILER BOAT Towing & Launching
By Michael Paddison
HOW TO TOW A TRAILER BOAT
First of all, and obviously, you need to ensure your trailer and boat are registered and appropriately insured. Secondly, it is very important to make full safety inspections and secure your boat for transport before hitting the road.
TRAILER AND VEHICLE CHECKS
Before hitching up a trailer, it is necessary to check its maximum load capacity and what weight your vehicle can legally tow. Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for the vehicle’s towing capacities.
There are a number of safety checks you should make before each trip.
• Make sure the tow vehicle and the trailer are properly connected. Align the hitch and ball, then lower the trailer hitch down over the ball.
• Ensure the latch is closed and the safety pin is inserted properly. Never tow without the safety pin.
• Make sure the safety chains are crossed and attached between the trailer and the tow vehicle.
• Check all lights - brake lights, blinkers and running lights - are working properly.
• Make sure the wheel bearings are properly lubricated to avoid overheating during the drive.
• Check the tyres to be sure they are properly inflated to correct pressure.
• Make sure the towing vehicle is properly maintained. The brakes, tyres, wheel bearings should all be checked for wear and tear and operational soundness. The mirrors should be large enough to give a full view of the rear of the trailer.
BOAT CHECK AND OTHER GEAR
Once the trailer and the tow vehicle are checked and determined to be in good working condition, turn your focus on the boat and any gear you will be towing for transport.
Before driving remember to::
• Check that the boat is properly secured and seated on the trailer, as unevenness can cause problems with weight distribution.
• Check that the outboard engine is properly secured for trailering.
• Make sure any gear in the boat is stored or attached securely to avoid blowing away while driving.
• No one should ride in the boat or on the trailer during transport.
• Ensure all doors, hatches, covers and any load or equipment are properly secured.
• Limit the mass of the load carried in the boot or luggage space of the towing vehicle.
When driving while towing the boat, it is necessary to allow greater distance for both overtaking and braking. And when TURNING while towing a trailer, the turn has to be made wider to avoid clipping a curb or other obstructions.
Backing a trailer is also challenge. Many people confuse and turn the wrong way. To solve this problem, here’s a tip: Place your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel. When your hand moves left or right, the trailer will go in the same direction.
HOW TO LAUNCH A BOAT
Once you arrive at the boat ramp, pull out of the way of ramp traffic and prepare the boat for safe launching. Park the vehicle and trailer in a designated parking area, and conduct the pre-launch checks.
PRE-LAUNCH PREPARATIONS
• Install the drain plugs (bungs) in the boat. This is very important, so double and triple check to make sure the bungs are in.
• Remove the trailer tie down, straps and engine support.
• Load all of your gear into the boat.
• Disconnect trailer lights from the tow vehicle if you use a portable light board.
• Make sure the winch is properly connected to the bow eye of the boat.
• Leave safety chain connected.
• Prepare mooring lines, fenders and boat hook for immediate use.
THE LAUNCH
• Back the trailer slowly down the boat ramp to get the boat into the water.
• Make sure to back down far enough on the ramp towards the water to avoid the boat ‘dropping off’.
• Once the trailer is at the right position, stop the tow vehicle. Make sure to set the parking brake before alighting the vehicle.
• Disengage the holding lock on the winch. With your hand on the winch handle, slowly release the tension on the strap/wire and let the boat slowly slide from the trailer and into the water. If your trailer uses skids instead of rollers, you will need to reverse a slight distance more to ‘help’ the boat get off the trailer.
• Once the boat is completely off the trailer, either beach the boat or tie it to the dock with the bowline.
• Drive your vehicle away from the ramp, and park the vehicle in a designated parking area.
It is helpful to have two people to launch or load the boat. Communication between the vehicle driver and the boat driver at all times during launching procedure will make launching safer. Ensure that the tow vehicle windows are down and stereos are off to hear each other. If there are multiple ramps at the facility, use hand-signal communication with each other. This will avoid confusion if it becomes too noisy at the ramps.
It is always a good idea to know the condition of the boat ramp before you drive your vehicle and trailer on to it. Check the type of the ramp, whether it is made of concrete, covered in gravel or sand, and determine how steep the ramp inclines. It will help you to safely launch the boat. For example, a slippery ramp can make the trailer and tow vehicle slide further into the water. In coastal areas, the tides may impact a ramp condition.
Altho ugh the a bove tips are based on actual experience, they do not replace professional advice from your local authorities, boat manufacturer and marine service agent. Always check the owner’s manual for specific instructions that pertain to your specific boat brand and model.

Sitting pretty some 200-metres above sea level with panoramic views over Port of Airlie Marina to Pioneer Bay and out to the great expanses of the Coral Sea, the $60 million project Airlie Summit represents the last ever elevated seaview land release in the picturesque coastal town.
Offering unique, cascading blocks capturing views of the surrounding ocean and hinterland vistas, this luxury development by Queensland-based development and construction company Alder, provides a coveted seaside lifestyle on the doorstep of the Whitsunday Islands backing onto the beautiful Conway National Park.
Gold Coast newlyweds Jared and Sophie Russell are one couple making the most of the rare opportunity to call this picturesque location home after purchasing a 1,472sqm block of land within the Airlie Summit. With construction underway to build a multi-generational family home of their dreams, the architecturally designed abode will feature a fully-contained separate living quarters, open plan living, high vaulted ceilings, and an abundance of natural light.
With their lot featuring million-dollar views of the entire bay and with a natural playground on their doorstep, the Russells are looking forward to embracing the laidback lifestyle Airlie Summit offers, with plans to spend as much time as possible nestling into the peace and serenity the elevated natural surroundings provide.
“This location was so attractive for us because of the work life balance we could gain by being in the region enabling us to switch off and enjoy the finer things in life,” says Mr Russell.
“At Airlie Summit we envision being part of a thriving coastal community while living on island time, adopting a healthier pace of life close by the ocean, the beach, and the abundance of local marine life.”
With a deep love of the ocean and the natural environment, Mr Russell, an accredited open water diver, values his time spent on the water while Mrs Russell shares her husband’s love of the great outdoors opting for the beach and hikes in the national park.
“There is something so captivating about the ocean and it is such a big part of my life so choosing to live at Airlie Summit is an easy extension of this. With an abundance of sea life and natural experiences available at the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, living here gives us the opportunity to experience this natural wonder and spend as much time as possible enjoying what is on offer. This is something we have always longed for but didn’t know was possible until now.”
The couple stumbled upon Airlie Summit by chance while holidaying in the region and immediately fell in love with the scenery and the pace the second fastest growing region in Australia had to offer.
“Being able to retreat to our home nestled on the hillside at Airlie Summit is something we have long thought about. We are looking forward to enjoying the best of both worlds, with the ability to easily spend time in town socialising and walking our dog at the esplanade, and retreating to our private sanctuary,” says Mr Russell.
“Coming from the Gold Coast where a fast-paced life is the norm, to the lifestyle here where there is a much slower pace, is a pinch yourself moment. We are very much connected to nature here and having the dual aspect across the bay, beach, ocean, and hinterland is a big drawcard.”
With the 24-hectare site set to include 89 residential and apartment lots, Frank Galvin, General Manager of Alder’s development division says Airlie Summit provides a prime location for enjoying a life well spent in a less busy yet thriving Queensland community.

The new Seadeck 7 is equipped with Volvo Penta’s helm-to-propeller hybrid-electric package.
VOLVO PENTA AND AZIMUT
ADVANCE HYBRIDISATION & ELECTRIFICATION
Azimut introduces the Seadeck 7, the world’s first yacht to combine hybrid power with Volvo Penta IPS propulsion, based on revolutionary Volvo Penta hybrid-electric pilot technology. This marks the first time a yacht combines diesel engines, electric motors, and batteries with the efficiency of Volvo Penta IPS drives, allowing hybrid operation without a generator. The Seadeck 7 can cruise in pure electric mode up to 11 knots and stay at anchor with zero emissions for up to 12 hours, with the aim to significantly enhance onboard comfort and sustainability.
"When it comes to reducing CO2 emissions, our approach is aimed at generating tangible results now, also by developing new solutions that we are already implementing at a prototype stage. Boats under 24 metres are the most prevalent in our waters, therefore making a difference in this segment of vessels means making a difference for many owners. The Volvo Penta hybrid-electric package installed on the Seadeck 7 has a mode of use similar to that of cars, meaning that it shifts from electric to diesel engine based on speed. It guarantees simplicity of use, reduced consumption and CO2 emissions, and improved life on board. Everything is in place to change the rules of the game,” said Giovanna Vitelli, Chair Azimut|Benetti Group.
CLOSER TO NATURE: THE SEAMLESS HYBRIDELECTRIC EXPERIENCE
In this pilot project, Volvo Penta introduces a fully integrated hybrid-electric package, from helm-topropeller, ensuring seamless operation and power management on the Seadeck 7. This system, a pilot of Volvo Penta’s recently announced D13 IPS hybrid-
electric package, guarantees smooth transitions between power modes, enhancing performance, efficiency, and ease. Features include near-silent cruising at low speeds, silent nights onboard using batteries, and Joystick Docking in Electric Mode for smooth docking and departure. The system also facilitates access to emission-free zones, allowing closer encounters with nature.
Compared to traditional planing yachts with an inboard shaft line and a similar size, the Seadeck 7's technological package, extensive use of carbon fibre (up to 40%), and superior hull design efficiency can allow for a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 40% in a typical year of use.
PIONEERING MARINE INNOVATION TOGETHER
This collaboration with Volvo Penta and Azimut | Benetti R&D Department aims to refine the hybrid-electric experience. The Seadeck 7, equipped with the hybridelectric package, introduces new electric and hybrid drive modes, supported by advanced engine monitoring and Volvo Penta’s global service network. This collaboration highlights both companies' dedication to advancing marine technology and innovative yacht design.
REDEFINING YACHT DESIGN
The Seadeck 7, part of Azimut's first hybrid series, features a reinvented cockpit and sea-level outdoor lounge for enhanced water contact, the Fun Island. By combining weight reduction, a carbon fibre hull, deck and superstructure, and Volvo Penta's hybrid-electric system, the Seadeck 7 enhances comfort and space. The Seadeck 7 has obtained the Rina Green Plus Platinum certification, highlighting its commitment to sustainable innovation and design.
FLEXIBLE POWER MODES FOR EVERY SITUATION
The hybrid-electric package offers four navigation options: Pure Electric mode for zero-emission sailing up to 11 knots; Hybrid Standard mode switching from electric to diesel; Hybrid Boost mode for enhanced acceleration; and the upcoming Cross-Over mode. In Hotel mode, the batteries power all services for up to 12 hours in silence and without CO2 emissions, eliminating the need for a traditional generator.
A
FULLY INTEGRATED HYBRID-ELECTRIC SYSTEM
The Volvo Penta hybrid-electric package is fully integrated, with Volvo Penta controlling all components from helm-to- propeller. The Seadeck 7 features a twin Volvo Penta D13 IPS 1350 Hybrid package, paired with a 160kW electric motor, ensuring powerful performance, maneuvrability, and efficiency. The electric motor and diesel engine work in parallel, allowing seamless transitions and efficient operation.
PIONEERING HYBRID-ELECTRIC FEATURES
The hybrid-electric package integrates intelligent technology, including the Volvo Penta Electronic Vessel Control (EVC) and innovative drive modes. These enable Joystick Docking, Joystick Steering, and Dynamic Positioning System (DPS) in both Pure Electric and Hybrid modes. The Glass Cockpit System provides an interface displaying drive modes and battery status. The EVC system allows engine monitoring, and data sharing, ensuring premium support through Volvo Penta’s global service network.
A COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE
Volvo Penta and Azimut will continue to develop and optimise the hybrid-electric package on the Seadeck 7 throughout 2024. This pilot project aims to demonstrate reliability and outstanding performance as the package is targeted to become integral to the Azimut Seadeck series, offering a market-defining hybrid-electric experience.

WHERE THE SEA FEELS LIKE HOME
ANTIFOULING 5 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT
We’ve asked Colin from Akzo Nobel - AwlgripInternational Paint to give us 5 important points every boat owner needs to know about antifouling.
1. WHY DO BOATS NEED TO BE ANTIFOULED?
Protecting your boat from marine growth is an unavoidable and necessary task. The sea contains immense quantities of floating plant and animal life, such as plankton.
In essence, a boat's natural environment of water contains the seeds of diminished performance and, if unattended, its eventual destruction.
It is a known fact that the density of marine organisms is greatest in coastal waters that are 10°C or warmer. Since the run-off from the land brings a wealth of food on which plankton exists, harbours and estuaries where boats are moored are literally breeding grounds for marine growth.
The best solution to the problem of fouling is treating the hull with an antifouling paint.
2. WHAT IS ANTIFOULING PAINT?
Antifoul paint is a coating which is formulated to inhibit the growth of marine organisms on the below water surface area of vessels by the release of biocides. The level of biocide is not the only determining factor of how an antifouling paint will perform. The resin system is equally important since it is the mechanism that determines how fast the biocides will be released.
The amount of biocide may affect the life of an antifouling paint but the sophistication of the resin system to hold and release biocide at the proper rate is far more important to the effectiveness of the antifouling.
3. TYPES OF ANTIFOULING
PAINT
a. Ablative or polishing antifoulings: Cover most boats, choose this category for your longevity of protection: Soft/Ablative – Awlcraft/Micron One , Ablative - Micron Extra 2, Premium Ablative - Micron AP
These types of antifoulings are ‘polishing’ because the action of the boat physically moving through the water wears away the leach layer, and so exposes fresh biocide.
Ablative types of antifouling are more efficient at delivering biocide than hard antifoulings and use less biocide to provide more antifouling protection.
Aluminium Compatible: Aluminium surfaces, Trilux 33, Hard Antifouling
b. Hard antifoulings: Fast boats, fresh water, racing craft, abrasion resistance or regular cleaning requirements: Ultra 2, VC Offshore
4. HOW DOES IT WORK?
The paint dries to a porous film that is packed with biocides, and these leach out as they come into contact with water. This leaching is designed to release
biocide throughout the season, but it is a diffusioncontrolled process that starts at a high level and steadily decreases until there is not enough biocide coming out of the paint film to maintain fouling protection.
Once the biocide is exhausted, the remaining hard paint film remains and must be recoated.
5. ARE ANTIFOULINGS SAFE TO HANDLE?
Antifoulings are totally safe if handled properly.
Before opening the tin and beginning work always read the label carefully and follow the health and safety advice on it.
If misused, antifoulings can be harmful to human health and/or the environment.
Always wear a cartridge-type respirator, overalls, gloves and safety glasses when abrading old antifoulings, or better still, wet the sand.
The applicator should remove overalls and wash their hands thoroughly before going to the toilet and wash their faces before drinking or eating.
Transfer of irritant materials to areas of skin which are more delicate than the hands can be very unpleasant and should be avoided.
To conclude, remember the following:
● Choose the right antifouling for your boat and it’s use.
● Make sure surface are well prepared, clean and dry.
● Apply the correct amount of paint for your vessel’s underwater surface area.
● Remember high wear areas.
● Don’t over-thin antifoulings – it reduces their life.
● Protect yourself with overalls, goggles and gloves.

STABICRAFT 2250 ULTRACAB WT
The
225 0 Ultracab WT originated from Stabicraft’s Pacific Northwest customers' feedback. While it has only been on the market for a few years, the 2250 Ultracab WT has been the ultimate tourer, gaining popularity worldwide and sure to grab your attention.
This boat has been crafted for coastal exploring, island hopping, and fishing, with the ability to do anything in between. The 2250 Ultracab WT performs exceptionally well for a 7-metre boat and is rated to a maximum of 300 HP in either single or twin motors. Stabicraft, responding to popular demand, has ensured the new 2250 Ultracab WT meets their customers' wants by introducing a full-height walkthrough in the forward-leaning cabin, allowing for comfortable access to the foredeck and ventilation. Having this walkthrough makes this boat ideal for island hopping and fishing in rough waters as it grants access to the bow, so there is no need to climb around the side of the boat.
The configuration of the walkthrough was designed around a spacious forward-leaning pilothouse, allowing for more space in the cabin, which truly caters to the 8-person capacity, improves visibility from the helm, and prevents windscreen fogging. A newly designed doorway includes a three-piece structure:
● The fold-down bottom section forms the steps from the cabin.
● The frameless glass centre pane lifts up to slide into a roof slot.
● The centre pane and roof slot slide rearward into the cabin.
Do you love the sound of the 2250 Ultracab WT so far? Well, it gets better with overnighters possible
(with upgrades) by utilising the optional vee-berth plus a convertible double-cabin securely sleeping four adults. No need to worry about another Titanic moment while you’re sleeping, with the added rigidity to the hull that helps make Stabicraft vessels unsinkable!
Ensuring no one is left out, the hardcore fisherman is surely not left disappointed, knowing the 2250 Ultracab WT has the true Stabicraft blood running through it. The welded aluminum floor supports the overall strength and permanence, and of course, the famous legendary arrow pontoons. Featuring the Game Chaser transom as a standard, this was originally designed for backing up on game fish. Now, the model has also demonstrated a vast win for skippers who desire to nose their boats into the shoreline.
This boat is well worth investigating, whether you’re after a hardcore fishing boat or something more family-friendly. You can adventure with confidence knowing the 2250 Ultracab WT will cater to your needs. There are currently two packages available: the 2250 Ultracab WT and the 2250 Ultracab WT Offshore. Knowing you’ll also be backed by Northside Marine and reliable Yamaha outboards, this is a smart choice this summer!

REPOWER YOUR BOAT
Suzuki Marine is renowned worldwide for delivering advanced technology to all types of boaters. This commitment to innovation is reflected in the DF115BG and DF140BG 4-stroke outboards, which continue to set the standard with their integrated drive-by-wire technology.
These current 115HP and 140HP in-line four-cylinder models offer simplified rigging across a wide range of boats. With their silky-smooth shifting, instant throttle response, enhanced performance, and outstanding fuel efficiency, these outboards ensure the same reliability and precision control that Suzuki’s driveby-wire technology is known for across its 150HP to 350HP models.
The DF115BG and DF140BG go beyond basic features. With a compression ratio of 10.6:1, these 2.0-litre displacement outboards are engineered to deliver top speed and acceleration by maximising thermal efficiency. They are also designed for fuel efficiency, with tests showing the DF140BG to be 5% to 7% more efficient across mid-range to high-speed cruising, while the DF115BG offers up to 6% better fuel economy at cruising speeds compared to earlier models.
Both outboards come equipped with a powerful 40-amp alternator, providing optimal charging performance even at low idle speeds—ideal for today's power-hungry fishing boats that spend extended time trolling. The sporty and streamlined exterior design complements a variety of boats, including centre consoles, flats skiffs, pontoon boats, and bass boats. Available in 20-inch (L) and 25-inch (X) shaft lengths, the DF115BG and DF140BG are perfect for a wide range of fresh and saltwater vessels. These models also come in Suzuki’s classic Pearl Nebular Black or the striking Super Cool White.
Additionally, both outboards feature a redesigned cowl with an improved air intake system that enhances water separation and a silencer-resonator system that reduces engine noise, ensuring a smooth and quiet boating experience at any speed.
For ease of maintenance, Suzuki has designed these models with a convenient oil filter replacement system—simply remove the upper engine cover to access the filter. The built-in Oil Spill Catcher prevents messes, and the Water Detection Fuel Filter is easily accessible, helping protect the engine from contaminated fuel.

PR OPSPEED – A CLEANER SOLUTION FOR UNDERWATER GROWTH & CORR OSION
The ocean is our playground, where we go to explore, get away and enjoy life. Protecting our environment, oceans and the bio diversity that lives under the waves has become more critical than ever. As a company, Propspeed® is committed to being part of the solution, addressing challenging environmental issues like the spread of invasive species, reducing vessels' fuel burn and correlated emissions, and protecting underwater metals from the destructive effects of corrosion.
Since 1999, Propspeed has been at the forefront of protecting running gear and underwater metals with its industry-leading foul-release coatings. It has been tried and tested around the world, consistently delivering boat owners the same result - improved boat performance, lower fuel burn and operational costs, sustained value of their investment, all while keeping the vessel’s running gear operating and looking its best season after season.
Propspeed offers a comprehensive range of premium foul-release coatings, including Propspeed for underwater metals, Foulfree™ for transducers, and Lightspeed™ for underwater lights. The latest addition to their product line is Stripspeed™, a solvent-based paint stripper for all underwater metals.
What is a foul-release coating? While both antifouling and foul-release coatings prevent marine growth from colonising on underwater surfaces—how they do it differs greatly. Antifouling paints use a biocide or toxin as their active ingredient and come in a range of hardness, from very hard antifouls, which steadily leach biocides from their porous surface, leaving behind a depleted film, to soft ablatives formulated to erode and slowly release biocides over time.
Propspeed is biocide free, meaning that instead of killing marine growth with toxins and contributing to further environmental impacts, it creates a smooth, hydrophobic surface that prevents marine growth from attaching to your underwater assets. Any marine growth that does form is easily wiped away or falls off from water flow across the surface through propeller or vessel movement.
This smooth, hydrophobic surface increases vessel efficiency from the day it is applied, and delivers boat owners sustained vessel performance and reduced maintenance throughout the season.
PROPSPEED VERSUS NO PROPSPEED
Propspeed’s commitment to achieving data-driven results and improving vessel performance is evident in their thirdparty data validation report conducted with TechBinder and Padmos. TechBinder collaborated with Padmos to evaluate the impact of Propspeed’s foul-release coating on the vessel “Windroos.” The test, carried out after the vessel’s hull and running gear was freshly cleaned, was conducted by having the vessel navigate a set course twice: once without Propspeed coating on the propeller, and once with Propspeed applied to the propeller.
“The data that we gathered suggest a clear improvement in performance of the vessel with Propspeed from the day it was applied,” said Ing. Maurits van Maaren, naval architect at Padmos. “Between the two trips, Windroos saw a 7.5% reduction in fuel consumption and a 4.7% decrease in kilowatt usage at cruising speed after the application of Propspeed compared with a clean propeller. Impressed by these results, we’re now implementing Propspeed on all of our vessels and recommending it to our customers.”
In addition to enhancing vessel performance, reduction of operational cost and associated emissions, Propspeed can also help in protecting underwater metals from corrosion and can reduce the environmental impacts of anode fallout.
Underwater corrosion on a vessel is a result of the movement of ions from a solid (like a propeller) to a liquid solution (like the ocean). Considering that some of the most expensive and critical components of a vessel like shafts, rudders, props, pod drives and other underwater metals are constantly under attack from corrosion, it makes sense to ensure the best protection available.
An insulating coating paired with a good cathodic protection system is very effective at preventing severe corrosion on all sorts of vessels and Propspeed is an excellent insulator. Not only does it protect these vital parts from corrosion, but the coating also reduces the load on anode systems and prevents accelerated anode burn that results in the carcinogenic makeup of the anode leaching into the ocean.
In collaboration with Marine Protection Systems, Propspeed aims to raise awareness and promote best practices using its insulative foul-release coatings alongside Marine Protection Systems' expertise in cathodic protection and corrosion protection solutions. This partnership strives to reduce the costs of boat ownership and operation while minimising the environmental impact of corrosion and coating loss on our oceans.
Over the last 25 years, Propspeed has built a skilled, globally trained applicator network and established distribution channels in over 60 countries. Their experienced international sales and technical team is dedicated to delivering confidence, value, and performance to boat owners worldwide. By choosing Propspeed, you are investing in a solution that not only protects your valuable underwater assets but also supports in minimising the environmental impact.

Your Perfect Waterfront Home
ON THE GOLD COAST
The Boat Gold Coast team offers valuable insights into choosing the perfect waterfront home on the Gold Coast. We highlight a diverse array of homes along the city’s rivers and canals through captivating photos, showcasing everything from boats of all sizes— power and sail, pontoon and catamaran—to scenic decking, lush lawns, boat lifts, ramps, pontoons, and jetties. With the right mindset and key information, there’s a property to suit everyone’s tastes and lifestyle.
PICTURE THIS: Your backyard view transforming with the seasons, the tide ebbing and flowing as a constant reminder of nature’s rhythms. There’s no better way to combine residential living with the boating lifestyle than here on the Gold Coast.
Living on a waterfront property with stunning waterway views is a dream many boat enthusiasts strive to achieve. The Gold Coast is home to more than 90% of Australia’s residential canals. While states like New South Wales and Victoria have banned new canal developments, Queensland continues to allow them under strict regulations, ensuring the value of a waterfront property here will only increase over time.
Unlike the canals of Venice, which lack car access or road systems, the Gold Coast offers the best of both worlds with easy access by land and water. When selecting a waterfront home, start with your land-based needs—proximity to work,
schools, shopping, and leisure activities. Once you’ve narrowed down your preferred suburbs, you can focus on finding the ideal house with boating access.
PROPERTY ORIENTATION AND LAND
The orientation of your property is crucial for comfort. A north-facing waterfront, for example, ensures sunlight in your backyard all day long. Homes facing other directions may find themselves in shade for part of the day, which can feel cold during winter. A west-facing waterfront will remain shaded until the afternoon, with the intense orange glare of sunset often requiring closed blinds. Additionally, consider whether the land fans out towards the water, providing more space for a larger pontoon and easier boat maneuvering, or narrows, which can limit boat access and create congestion with neighboring jetties.
WATER ACCESS AND NAVIGATION
The Gold Coast boasts 400 kilometres of constructed canals, each offering unique challenges and opportunities for boaters. If quick access to the Broadwater and Seaway is a priority, Runaway Bay is an excellent option, with more registered boats than any other postcode in Queensland. However, it can be congested with
older homes and crowded canals. On the other hand, Sanctuary Cove, Hope Island, and Upper Coomera offer exclusive, gated communities with modern architecture and a slower pace. Be mindful that the Coomera River can be temperamental during rainy summers.
Runaway Bay and Coomera River areas are popular among sailboat owners, as many sections are bridge-free and offer deep water passage. However, the main arm of the Coomera is a 6-knot zone, making travel to the Broadwater slower. For smaller vessels, the Nerang River offers both 6-knot and 40-knot zones, allowing faster access to destinations like Southport, Carrara, and Broadbeach Waters.
Though main riverfront properties are highly desirable, they come at a premium and can be affected by boat wake, which may cause damage to pontoons and jetties. Before purchasing, take the time to explore the area by boat to assess potential challenges firsthand.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT BOAT
If you’re new to the waterfront lifestyle and still deciding on a boat, start small with a tinnie or kayak, which allows you to enjoy the waterways without a significant financial commitment. For something
more substantial, an 8-metre or smaller boat offers ease of navigation and speed along most stretches of the main rivers. Larger boats, while luxurious, are restricted to 6 knots on most canal systems and require special equipment like boat lifts or draining skirts to avoid costly maintenance from prolonged exposure to saltwater.
PONTOONS
When building or replacing a pontoon, several factors must be considered. Piled pontoons,
secured to the seabed with concrete posts, are ideal for waterways with strong tidal flow, while calmer areas can accommodate pontoons attached to land via struts or cables. For smaller boats under 6 metres, a dry berth on the pontoon is an option, using a roller system for parking with either a manual or electric winch. A 3.5-metrewide pontoon is recommended for safe access around the boat, while narrow pontoons can be unstable and offer limited storage.
For properties on main rivers like the Nerang and Coomera, it’s important to choose a pontoon with high freeboard—this extra height will protect it from the waves created by passing boats, particularly wakeboarding vessels. Council regulations allow pontoon lengths to reach up to 70% of your waterfront property length.

LAGOON UNVEILS THE 43
Could this be the next best-selling catamaran?
The number one catamaran manufacturer Lagoon is proud to announce the launch of its latest masterpiece, the Lagoon 43. Crafted in collaboration with world renowned architects and designers, the Lagoon 43 is a testament to the evolution of naval workmanship and customer-centric innovation.
Commenting on the new design, TMG Yachts managing director, John Cowpe shares his thoughts. “The world took notice when the Lagoon 42 was launched 8 years ago and has since gone on to be the world best-selling catamaran with over 1000 units sold. Now, with the new 43, it is clear that the designers have taken a huge step forward, cementing and extending Lagoon's position as the clear industry leader.” Cowpe continues, “The key to such success is having the best partners. This means the leading naval architects, the largest inhouse design team, the widest dealer network and, crucially, more loyal and experienced owners giving feedback than any other brand.”
KEY FEATURES OF THE LAGOON 43
In an exclusive TMG Yachts interview, Quentin Beraut, Lagoon’s product manager, explained the three defining characteristics of the Lagoon 43: ease of movement, adaptability, and generous spaces. "The Lagoon 43 sets a new standard for ease of movement with its innovative design," said Beraut. "It offers adaptable spaces, seamlessly connecting the interior and exterior to suit the customer’s preferences."
Ease of movement is established through the innovative side access doors facilitating seamless mobility from the dock, while the recessed saloon door enhances connectivity between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Adaptability is emphasised onboard with new features such as a convertible in-and-out table solution, allowing you to move furniture based on your preferences. Another key feature is the new lounging area, with multifunctional backrests that allow owners and guests to see into the cockpit or out to sea. As Quentin Beraut enthusiastically describes, “This innovative design allows sailors to enjoy breathtaking ocean views while lounging in unparalleled comfort."
Generous spaces are maximised thanks to the redesigned hull expanding internal cabin spaces four-fold, providing larger berths and expansive living areas unparalleled in its class. “This has led to the clever decision to move the master berth forward and the bathroom aft, allowing for quieter sleeps while underway and separating the shower and head,” explains Beraut. “With the strategic shift to move the mast forward, saloon volume and internal manoeuvrability is also improved."
The 43 introduces a new space with the introduction of the semi-fly on the coachroof, further enhancing the onboard experience. John Cowpe expressed his excitement for the Lagoon 43, highlighting its appeal to both couples and families seeking freedom and adventure. “I can see the semi-fly and the forward lounging being popular. Once we can show the interior and exterior connection, I know that people will appreciate this concept in the context of how they use and move around the vessel.”
AUSTRALIAN DELIVERY 2025
The first Lagoon 43 was launched in the Mediterranean in mid-2024, and the first 43 will be arriving in Australia in 2025. “There are so many unique selling points, we simply cannot wait to
show our clients this vessel in Australia,” concludes Cowpe, adding “I am pleased to say that we have a number of confirmed orders already and the phone is ringing hot! It is reminiscent of when we first launched the Lagoon 42.”

DD’ALBORA MARINAS
Install charging network for electric boats
'Albora, Australia’s largest premium marina and hospitality network, and Seavolt, Australia’s first and only offshore charging company, have collaborated to deliver Australia’s first DC fast charging network for recreational and commercial electric boats .
Like cars, boats are becoming electric. From jet skis to superyachts, the next generation of recreational and commercial vessels will be powered by electricity, which requires a sustainable and convenient network of charging stations.
Chris Cudlipp, CEO of Seavolt, says, “It is critical that there is a charging network that can deliver 100% renewable electricity to power our blue highways. d’Albora immediately understood the opportunities, both environmentally and commercially.”
d’Albora Managing Director Julien Pouteau knows that the maritime industry is about to undergo a major change. “We want to support the zeroemission boating opportunities in the sector and provide a sustainable and functional service to these users. We have customers who are already showing interest in docking new electric boats with us. When Seavolt approached us, we saw the potential of the partnership immediately,” says Julien.
Seavolt will install DC fast chargers across d’Albora’s network spanning QLD, NSW and VIC, providing the public with direct access to vessel charging and options for AC chargers at their individual marina berths, as well as installations for their customers’
car parks, all powered by 100% renewable electricity.
The initial installation will take place at d’Albora The Spit in Sydney Harbour, offering electric boating enthusiasts a wide range of services including fast charging, moorings, shipyard maintenance facilities and waterfront dining options.
Chris describes d’Albora as the ideal partner to accelerate the rollout of marine charging systems in the Australian market. “Having chargers in key locations is critical and D’Albora’s network of excellent marina locations on the east coast delivers that.”
According to Chris, “There is an electric boating revolution happening around the world and this partnership with d’Albora is Australia’s first big step in embracing it.”

TYAMAHA LAUNCHES
V6 4.3 LITRE 350 HORSEPOWER OUTBOARD
he all-new Yamaha V6 350 horsepower outboard combines big horsepower, state-of-the-art features, industry leading boat control integration, premium level performance and Yamaha’s legendary reputation for reliability.
Yamaha has dominated the Australian offshore market when it comes to high horsepower and boat control system integration, with the new V6 350 filling an important segment in Yamaha’s extensive big horsepower lineup.
The new 350 has been built on Yamaha’s most reliable and proven big block V6 platform, which has been completely redesigned with an upgraded 4.3 Litre capacity, extra-strong gear case and many other engineering enhancements brought across from Yamaha’s pinnacle XTO 450 horsepower outboard –making it the most advanced V6 outboard Yamaha has ever produced.
This engine delivers genuine 350 horsepower in an impressive 286kg industryleading lightweight package, making it more suitable to a wider range of offshore boating applications than ever before.
ADVANCED INTEGRATED STEERING SYSTEM - The new 350 is both smart and good looking, coming with Yamaha’s state-of-the-art built-in Digital Electric Steering. Neat and compact, this integrated steering system delivers extremely smooth, quiet and responsive steering, with additional technical smarts to give you even more control over your boat. The system removes the need for steering pumps, hoses, hydraulic lines and bleeding procedures, resulting in a cleaner and less cluttered engine well, and the easiest outboard to fit in the market.
MORE CHARGING POWER – When You Need It Most - The enhanced heat management system keeps everything nice and cool under the cowling. This not only improves engine durability and reliability but creates more available amps, when it is needed most, at idle – powering the increasing array of electrical devices used in today’s modern boats.
INDUSTRY-LEADING BOAT
CONTROL
INTEGRATION - When it comes to cutting-edge technology, nothing compares with the integration of the new 350 and Yamaha's exclusive Helm Master® EX (HMEX) boat control system (sold separately). - With its extensive point modes for making fishing easier, Autopilot navigation functionality and Joystick maneuvring capabilities,
no other outboard can offer the level of control of the Yamaha 350. Now with the additional precision control of a Variable Speed Bow Thruster (optional), on single to quad outboard applications, HMEX delivers a premium experience, previously only available to much larger non-outboard powered vessels.
STRONGER AND MORE EFFICIENT GEAR BOX - To handle the enormous power generated by the new 350, Yamaha’s engineers have enhanced the gear case, ensuring maximum torque transfer from the power head to the propeller and improved long-term durability. The enhanced gear case also features Yamaha’s Thrust Enhancing Reverse Exhaust (TERE) technology, which redirects exhaust bubbles away from the prop when operating in reverse and under 2500RPM, resulting in cleaner water for greater prop grip and significantly improved thrust. This is handy for navigating around marinas and docks, reversing onto your catch and when used in conjunction with Yamaha's Helm Master EX boat control system.
SLEEK AND SOPHISTICATED DESIGN STYLING - The new 350 takes its styling cues from Yamaha's V6 and XTO lineup, portraying a masculine and sophisticated design look. Available in Yamaha's Signature Grey or Pearlescent White, these engines are immaculately finished, with raised chrome graphics to compliment even the most premium boats. For convenience, an optional propeller light rear panel is available for Helm Master EX Full Maneuvrability mode. The rear panel light flashes when the engine is operating autonomously, to create propeller safety awareness for boaters and swimmers.
MORE CONVENIENCE - For an improved user experience, the new 350 comes with Yamaha's TotalTiltTM feature, delivering faster and easier engine tilting. TotalTiltTM allows the user to completely tilt the engine up from any position with a simple double-push of the “UP” trim/tilt button, or fully tilt down (to bottom of tilt range) by the same double push of the “DOWN” trim/tilt button. Another handy feature is the optional dual flush system, allowing the boater to flush the engine from in the boat, or multiple engines at once. A Maritime Legacy STELLA MARIS
n the heart of Brisbane in 1947, a vessel known as Stella Maris was born. Crafted by the skilled hands of Charles Crowley in the boatyard nestled along the meandering Brisbane River, this Baycruiser became the epitome of classic workmanship and timeless design, blending elegance, functionality, and maritime heritage in every detail. Celebrated for his pilot boats that served the critical needs of Queensland Harbours and Marine, Crowley infused his passion into every plank and beam, ensuring that each vessel embodied the spirit of his artistry. The original blueprints preserved to this day, feature designs by Crowley’s own hand alongside the foundational plans provided by John Crowley. Before Stella Maris came to life, Crowley embarked on a personal odyssey with a vessel named Tamara, a sister ship crafted from those very pilot boat plans. Although he sold Tamara before ever experiencing its splendor, the dream of a personal boat continued. Stella Maris emerged from Crowley's passion, embodying his vision of grace and resilience on the water.
Crowley was not just a builder - he was a pioneer. His fleet included remarkable vessels that captured the spirit of adventure, culminating in the launch of Vedette II shortly before his passing in 1954. This particular vessel, originally commissioned for police duties, had the honor of transporting the Queen herself on her inaugural royal tour—an emblem of Crowley’s legacy woven into the fabric of maritime history.
Fast forward to 2005, Stella Maris underwent a metamorphosis, stripped down and lovingly rebuilt from the hull up. This four-year rebirth introduced modern touches—an epoxy-glassed hull, refreshed decks, and luxurious living quarters that now included an aft cabin, a wheelhouse with a forward bathroom and four bunks. It also featured a daybed and a double bed with an ensuite in the rear cabin. This vessel was no longer just a boat; it became a sanctuary for memories waiting to be made.
In July 2009, Matthew and Tanya Thompson discovered Stella Maris, nestled in a shed on Brisbane Road in Labrador. With the guidance of local engineer Paul Ramsbotham, they revived her spirit, installing new drive shafts and engines, retaining only the original three-blade propeller. Ramsbotham’s ingenious trolley, crafted from drilling pipe and I-beams, played a pivotal role in wheeling the 12-tonne beauty out of the shed to continue her journey on the Gold Coast. Steve Armstrong, a skilled boatbuilder, completed the exterior fittings, while Lucas Main transformed her with a fresh coat of Awlgrip 2000.
The Thompsons, owners of Brisbane’s Finest Floors, infused their touch into Stella Maris with polished parquetry floors in the forward cabin and wheelhouse, designed in a stunning blackbutt and teak basket weave, finished with five shimmering coats of satin polyurethane. Each detail echoed the couple’s commitment to preserving her legacy while enhancing her classic beauty.
As the years rolled on, Stella Maris found a new custodian in Martin Phelan, who recognised the importance of owning a piece of Queensland’s rich maritime tapestry. Now 77 years old, Stella Maris was modernised with a robust 180HP Daewoo diesel engine, breathing new life into her classic frame. Under the expert hands of Kym Gross from QLD Shipwrights, Martin oversaw a thorough maintenance regime, including cosmetic upgrades and underwater enhancements, ensuring that this vessel would continue to sail the waves of Moreton Bay for generations to come.
All work was conducted at Redland City Marina, and with the team's unwavering support, every maintenance task became a labor of love. The meticulous care extended to a recent paint job by Bayside Marine Refinishing, ultimately restoring Stella Maris to her former glory and preparing for the adventures that lay ahead.
Stella Maris is more than a boat; she is a testament to the artistry of Charles Crowley, whose vision and craftsmanship have stood the test of time. Today, she sails not only as an iconic cruiser of Queensland’s waterways but also as a cherished vessel that evokes nostalgia and admiration among classic boat enthusiasts. Each journey aboard Stella Maris is a voyage through history, a celebration of the craftsmanship that defined a bygone era, and a promise of countless memories yet to be made on the shimmering waters of Moreton Bay.

DISCOVER HAMPTON MOTOR YACHTS
Hampton Yachts represent the perfect combination of tough, offshore capable construction supported by robust and redundant systems and married to luxurious living spaces.
A commitment to superior yacht design and construction starts with expertly engineered hulls and is carried through with our dedication to continuous innovation and improvement of every component and system on our boats. We control every aspect of the manufacturing process in our own dedicated factory with experienced craftsman and technicians who start with the best raw materials and the highest quality components.
The most important safety feature of any boat is a quality hull construction. All hulls are hand-laid with Knytex or Cymax instead of conventional roving/mat construction, for greater strength and reduced weight. The 5 outer layers use Vinylester resin, to eliminate the potential for future blistering. In addition, Hampton adds 2 hand-laid layers of Kevlar reinforcement from chine to chine and a 3rd layer in the forward collision zone. This helps to create a stiff, puncture resistant structure and adds an extra layer of safety. Running gear is protected by a full length keel.
Side decks are wide and easy to navigate with extensive and well positioned on-deck rails that are oval shaped for a secure grip. Our hardware is generously sized and made of 316L stainless steel imported from Japan. Excellent sightlines from the lower helm both ahead, to the sides and aft through sliding glass doors.
Hampton Yachts give the same consideration to visibility from the fly bridge; many boats place their flybridge helms too far aft, we carefully position our flybridge helm forward for excellent 360 degree visibility. For confidence in tight spaces, all Hampton yachts are outfitted with additional aft control stations in the cockpit, one each on port and starboard, conveniently built into the aft deckhouse supports. We also offer an optional yacht controller for the ultimate mobile control station. Hampton Yachts are designed to be owner operated and easy to handle and dock with proportional bow and stern thrusters, and engines that are expertly matched to each hull with generously sized twin props for power when you need it. Systems are designed for ease of use and maintenance in a true stand up engine room with interior access for safety underway.
Staircases, not ladders, to get up to the flybridge or down to the engine room. Most of our models have interior access from the salon to the engine room for safe access to the engine room while underway.
Hampton Yachts pride ourselves on the high level of customization available. Because our boats are built in our own factories with our own craftsman we are able to customize any aspect of a new yacht; including layout down to the finishes. Your Hampton representative will help you choose the boat and options that meet your needs. From fireplaces to exotic wood interiors we have done it all!
And of course, you are welcome to visit our factory at any point before and during your build. Unlike many other semi-custom manufacturers, we do not require large, un-refundable deposits to secure a slot in our manufacturing schedule.

Take a walk through the key areas of this magnificent vessel to showcase its exquisite features.
BOW LOUNGE: A SUNBATHER’S PARADISE
Stepping aboard the Pardo 52GT, one is immediately struck by the attention to detail. Handrails in carbon fibre adorn the deck, enhancing both safety and aesthetics. With these handrails down, the deck becomes a seamless, flush surface, perfect for soaking up the sun. The bow lounge is a social haven, accommodating three to four friends for a leisurely chat while cruising or at anchor. Notably, the boat’s anchor system, a signature of Pardo, is seamlessly integrated, deploying with the help of camera at the helm.
SAFETY FIRST: BULWARKS AND COCKPIT DESIGN
Safety is paramount on the Pardo 52GT. The wide walkway, thick bulwarks, and safety handrails along the sides guarantee peace of mind while traversing the vessel. The black finishing and handrails exude Italian style, creating an inviting atmosphere as you explore the boat further.
VERSATILE AFT COCKPIT: ENTERTAINMENT HUB
The aft cockpit is a multifunctional space designed for entertainment. Currently set up for dining, it comfortably seats up to eight people. However, it can quickly transform into a spacious sun lounge, with all backrests folding down. The hydraulic platform at the stern offers easy access to the water, whether for swimming or storing dinghies.
MAIN SALOON: ELEGANCE AND COMFORT
Moving into the main saloon, one encounters luxurious lounges and a dining area. The option to have the galley below deck enhances the lounge space. The discreetly positioned popup television and the availability of satellite
TV add to the onboard entertainment options. Attention to detail is evident in the stainless-steel accents on the timber tabletops. Above, the sunroof invites refreshing natural ventilation, while cleverly designed fly screens keep intrusive insects at bay.
ERGONOMIC HELM: CUTTING-EDGE NAVIGATION
At the helm, an ergonomic layout beckons with dual large Garmin screens, precise Volvo throttles, and a responsive IPS joystick, all seamlessly integrated into a minimalist dash design that maintains a clean and clutter-free aesthetic. The panoramic view from the helm not only ensures safe and unobstructed navigation but also complements the boat’s sleek appearance. Adding to its allure, the distinctive reverse window design serves a dual purpose by aiding in heat reduction and creating an expanded interior volume. Powered by robust Volvo IPS D8 600HP engines and complemented by a generator, the Pardo 52GT ensures a smooth and efficient performance on the water.
GALLEY: PRACTICALITY MEETS STYLE
The Pardo 52GT impresses not only with its entertaining spaces but also its functional aspects. The below-deck galley is generous in size, offering ample refrigeration, dishwasher, and storage space. The atrium feel keeps the area well-connected to the rest of the boat, allowing interaction with guests and the helm.
CABIN AND ENSUITES: DISCOVER TRANQUIL RETREATS
The Pardo 52GT offers an array of well-appointed cabins that cater to a variety of needs. The twin cabin, while not the largest on board, makes this boat an ideal choice for families or those with additional guests in mind. This cabin provides a comfortable sleeping space for children or overflow guests, boasting ample cupboard space. Adjacent, you’ll find a private ensuite that cleverly doubles as a day head, ensuring convenience for all aboard. The ensuite features a spacious shower with a soothing rainfallstyle showerhead, enhanced by the soft glow of beautiful LED lights. Moving forward into the master cabin, one is
pleasantly surprised by its generous size and intelligent layout. The bed is ingeniously positioned athwartship to maximise space and comfort, complemented by a cosy seating area where you can savour your morning coffee or engage in a quiet conversation. In the most forward section of the accommodations, the master cabin boasts its own ensuite, along with a separate shower to starboard. Throughout the Pardo 52GT, including in the master and twin cabins, the overhead showers dazzle with their integrated LED lights, adding a touch of elegance to your maritime experience. TALLEBUDGERA CREEK
Protecting the Jewel in the Crown of the Gold Coast
By
Bea utiful Tallebudgera Creek captivates visitors with its pris tine waters and sandy beaches, offering a haven for families to enjoy swimming, paddling, canoeing, snorkeling, stand-up paddleboarding, outrigging and so much more. Yet, beneath its serene surface lies a thriving but fragile marine ecosystem in need of protection.
In 2020, during a dive under the bridge, I discovered a shocking sight: pylons entangled with fishing lines and hooks – a deadly labyrinth of snags, posing significant dangers to marine life and swimmers. Concerned that reporting the issue to council could result in the engagement of commercial divers to remove the lines and might inadvertently result in the stripping away of essential marine growth that provides shelter to small creatures, I decided to take action. My mission became clear: to cut the line away, one dive at a time to help preserve and restore the creek's delicate habitat, ensuring a safer environment for both wildlife and people.
Armed with my scuba and cutting gear, I began meticulously removing fishing lines and hooks from the bridge pylons. To demonstrate the severity of the problem, I documented my findings with photos and detailed entries in a database. Over the course of 190 dives, my dedicated team and I have extracted over 49,000 metre s of fishing line, 4,395 hooks, 4,980 sinkers, and 44 deadly nets left behind by irresponsible fishers and poachers.
The bridge, built in 1920 and supported by 116 pylons, shelters a surprising array of marine life and birds. One of our most remarkable discoveries has been the presence of over 100 species of nudibranchs—vibrant sea slugs that flourish in the creek. Documented by citizen scientists, these colorful creatures have become symbols of the creek’s biodiversity and have helped educate the local community about the importance of maintaining clean and healthy waterways. Presentations to wildlife organizations and support from Gecko Environmental Council have further bolstered efforts to protect the creek, particularly the area around the bridge, which (according to our data) traps over 1,000 metres of fishing line each month.
Our efforts have transformed how people view the bridge, highlighting the need to shield it from further development, such as the proposed light rail stage four and the ongoing impacts of illegal fishing. Rescuing trapped animals and ensuring the safety of the creek for all users have been both challenging and rewarding. The heartbreaking sight of hooked fish, strangulated moray eels, butchered stingrays, and sad fish ensnared by fishing lines, has only strengthened my resolve to protect this precious ecosystem. We have also seen octopuses trying to shelter in holes covered with line, sharp hooks and deadly lures.
Looking ahead, my goal is to amplify awareness within the community and local government about the dangers of illegal fishing from the bridge and the benefits of preserving the marine habitat below. This
mission not only safeguards the creek's biodiversity but also enhances its value as a tourist destination, driving economic progress.
The group documents their findings with photos and detailed entries in a database.
I urge everyone to remember the incredible creatures that inhabit Tallebudgera Creek the next time they cross the bridge. Marine lovers can advocate for their protection by contacting the Gold Coast City Council to request improved signage featuring an after-hours reporting number, surveillance cameras to identify night-time netters, real-time monitoring to deter poachers and illegal fishing activities to protect this valuable marine asset. You can stay updated on our cleanup efforts by joining our Facebook group, “Hooked on Tallebudgera Creek Cleanup Crew.” Together, we can ensure that Tallebudgera Creek remains a safe, thriving habitat for marine life and a beloved destination for generations to come.

THE CAPRICORN BUNKER GROUP — SOUTHERN GREAT BARRIER REEF
The Capricorn Bunker Group of islands and reefs is the perfect and accessible introduction to the Great Barrier Reef. Cruising this section of the Southern Great Barrier Reef is an unforgettable experience and offers exceptional reef viewing, cruising, snorkelling and diving. The Southern Great Barrier Reef is rich in sea life, coral and scenery. Navigation through the Capricorn Bunker Group can be effortless as most of the reefs have islands and wide channels between them.
LADY MUSGRAVE ISLAND
Lady Musgrave Island is instantly recognisable, with a large coral lagoon with deep water access. This tropical paradise and sheltered lagoon provides a safe anchorage and abounds with masses of fish, coral and turtles. Keep a look out for coral bommies when navigating in the lagoon, but with clear tropical water, spotting and avoiding them is easy and they are all marked on charts. Lady Musgrave is the jewel in the crown of the Southern Great Barrier Reef and very popular.
FITZROY REEF
Fitzroy Reef is another stunning lagoon with a deep water entrance, but without a land mass. Deep anchorage on the southwest corner will protect from a north easterly and a north westerly wind. The deep water entrance is marked clearly for a good anchorage inside the lagoon. There is excellent fishing in the area.
WISTARI REEF
Adjacent to Heron Island, Wistari Reef is an elevated lagoon, which is shallow and crammed with coral. The best dive site on this reef is the brilliant Wistari Wall. This sloping wall drops from three metres to 20 metres and is decorated with many striking corals. There is also excellent reef walking and snorkelling. Shelter in the lee of the reef for anchorage.
MAST HEAD ISLAND
Mast Head Island is a beautiful and accessible coral island close to Irving Reef, Polmaise Reef and Erskine Island. It is located just 31NM northeast of Gladstone. Boaters can shelter in the lee of the island to anchor in SE to NE winds. The island is popular with campers and day-trippers due to its close proximity to Gladstone
NORTH WEST ISLAND
North West Island is a hidden gem of the Southern Great Barrier Reef and only 40NM northeast of Gladstone. It is the second largest coral cay in the area and offers opportunities for camping, bushwalking, nature study, reef walking, diving and snorkelling. Camping on the island requires a permit.
This is just a small selection of the islands and reefs in close proximity to Gladstone. Consult your charts and weather forecast and explore the numerous reefs and islands in the area at your leisure.
