editor’s thought...

Welcome to January and 2017 LL&L Legends, Wow, where did 2016 go? It really did fly by for me that is for sure. Does time go faster for everyone or is it just some of us? Or perhaps it is the older we get the faster the time seems to go. Whatever the reason, we have seen to the end of 2016 and have welcomed in 2017.

The start of a new year always brings excitement in life both personal and business, it brings New Year’s resolutions, it allows us to reflect on the year that was and how we can improve in the year ahead. I have spoken to a lot of clients who all seem to be saying the same things. They want to try new things in business, that this is the year to make some solid changes and to really ramp up their business and take things to the next level. I have also heard around the table of family gatherings, family wanting to have a healthier approach, get away with their family more and tap into more quality activities with their kids. From my personal experience, I can say that 2017 will definitely be something different for us, with us deciding to leave our belongings right where they are (in 2 big 20ft containers) and continue our journey living and working from a caravan. This step for us has been huge, but one that gets better with every day that passes. Sure the time will come (maybe) we will want for

our home again, but for now we are loving every bit of living our dream. The smaller space does mean you need to put your thoughtful pants on, it allows you to exercise your sharing skills and qualities and it definitely lets you practice patience, all of which are so valuable to our kids and to see them doing this as second nature reminds us this decision has been all the better. Your 2017 may not have such big changes, or it may, whatever the case make it count. Work when you need, spend time with loved ones and make memories. We have many great stories in this edition that are of families doing just that, making memories and if Christmas had you away on the boat or in the caravan making memories, then remember the importance of servicing and getting it ready for your next adventure. We have great reputable service providers that support us to be able to bring you our great magazine each month so we hope you can support them and their business. For a list of them head to www.lifestyleandleisuresupercentre.com.au Enjoy the start of 2017, make it count and Happy Australia Day. Living and Loving Life

TRIP IN A VAN HAS A FAVOURITE

FISHING SPOT

Liquid Life & Leisure

12 months on the road with 40,000km travelled. I have fished in every state of Australia except Tas. I get asked a lot by other travellers, do I have a FAVOURITE spot to Fish??? Bloody oath i do! For me, the best place i have got to fish on my travels has been on a creek bank in Broom, WA. I managed to catch up with a local lad there,’Kess’ who took me fishing to a few of his favourite spots. My Favourite being the banks of Willie Creek. It’s a beautiful spot that i would never have found without the help from my new found fisher friend. The best part though, It produced fish time after time. Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, Trevally, Tarpon, Blue Salmon and Threadfin Salmon were all cruising this Epic little Creek. Location wise its about half hours drive from the Cable

Beach caravan park along the Road to Cape Leveque. A minor detour on some 4wd tracks across the mudflats and you drop into the creek bank. Across the Creek you can see the Willie creek pearl farm, which is also meant to be great fishing. Its a wide creek with a lot of tidal movement, so the best fishing is done an hour either side of the high and low tides. I found the low tide to be ore productive as i think the fish tend to hang out in more concentration, making them easier to find. I used nothing but Squidgy Slick Rigs, they are a prerigged soft plastic swim bait that come in various colours. I found the 80mm white version to be the most productive. I fish them with the slowest retrieve possible without hitting the bottom and BAM!! The fish just smash em. Im sure a lot of Liquid Life & Leisure

other techniques would work as well, but its hard to change things up when your catching fish. Its easy to get complacent with the danger of crocs up here as you don’t often see them, but BEWARE!! There is a big resident salty in this creek and i wouldn’t like to meet him face to face, so keep your distance up the bank and tie a long enough leader to be able to drag your fish up without getting near the water. I managed to land one or more Barra everyday here, along with several other by-catches. Its exciting fishing with big hits and lots of follow ups on your lures to keep the adrenaline pumping. One morning in particular was spectacular!! I got to the creek about 20minutes before sunrise and all i could hear was the water boiling with action. As the sun came up and enough light 09

shone on the creek, i could see all the commotion. There was a shark of 3-4 metres in length just going to town on a huge school of fish. He was rapidly circling and darting in and out of the school with his fin up and out of the water. It was amazing to see the power of this thing in its own habitat. I quickly launched the slickrig into the school to join the action. Instantly I was hooked up and the drag was

singing. Not being sure what i had on was hugely exciting. This only lasted about 30 seconds though…. Once old mate shark got sniff off my catch, it was all over. I managed to retrieve only the head of what i had hooked, and it was the biggest Tarpon i had ever seen. Things slowed up after that as i think everything went into hiding for a while. We kept fishing of a few hours and

managed a nice barra of 82cm, and a few trevally. This cracker of a fishing spot is a bit of a locals secret, so i won’t give exact directions. But if you drop into the tackle world shop in town and stock up on some slick rigs, they should help you out with some info. www.twbroome.com.au Good Luck from ‘Trip In A Van’. 7 daYs of: TasMania DAY ON E

We arrived at Devonport on the Spirit of Tasmania. There are 2 trips either during the day or through the night given it's about a 12 hour voyage. Our top tips for travelling is make sure you allow plenty of time to get to the boat accidents can happen on the roads and traffic can set you back.

Plan your route ahead there a a lot of low bridges in Melbourne which can hinder some travellers. Get a cabin if you can afford it makes the journey so much easier particularly with young kids, Invest is some anti sickness tablets, we use Kwells (available at any chemist) if you're prone to getting sea sick they will make a world of difference on a rocky ship. For day travellers book somewhere in Devonport to stay once getting off the boat as there can be delays so your disembark can be later than expected and it's easier not to travel far.

by Colin & Family DAY TWO

A short drive approximately 100kms from Devonport is Launceston the next stop on the itinerary. Just out of town is a great spot to camp called Old Macs Farm & Fishery it’s $10 per night but you will need to be fully self contained however based on an honesty policy can fill your water tanks for $2 which is so convenient when caravanning. Just out of town is The Cataract Gorge and if you have a few extra dollars there's fabulous little boat trip into the gorge which the kids absolutely loved. There are also plenty of walks to do throughout the Gorge and a suspension bridge to cross which gives the best views. The restaurant (if you don't have kids that cause a scene) is a great spot to grab some food and enjoy the marvellous lookout. http://www.launcestoncataractg orge.com.au

DAY THREE

Leaving Launceston we drove North East via Lillydale then onto Scottsdale rather than going the steep and winding highway to Scottsdale. This was advice given to us by Ian the owner of Old Macs Farm and glad we took it as the drive was easy with not much traffic. After Scottsdale we drove through a small town called Derby which has rich history of tin mining but is now best known for its downhill mountain biking scene. After derby we arrived at our destination for the night a fabulous little pub called the "Pub in the Paddock" where you can feed Priscilla (the pig) a beer and camp the night as well. Not far off the main road the Pub boasts some stunning hinterland views but Pyengana is also famous for its award winning cheeses by the Pyengana Dairy Company. http://pyenganadairy.com.au The “Pub in the Paddock” is a great spot to pull up for the night and as a little bonus just up the road is St Columbus Falls which are absolutely beautiful and an easy short walk making it accessible for most. You can camp at the pub for free, again you must be self contained (no power supply or water) but the etiquette we feel is that you go and have lunch or dinner at the pub which didn't disappoint the meals were huge and tasty.

DAY FOUR

After leaving the hinterland you make it into St Helens which has all you'll need to replenish food stores and fill up on water before the short 15km drive to the bay of fires. The Bay of Fires extend from Binalong Bay to Eddystone Point. Most people assume the Bay of Fires was named after the orange-hued granite rocks lining the coast when in fact the the bay was given its name in 1773 by Captain Tobias Furneaux who saw the fires of Aboriginal people on the beaches. This is the most spectacular place in Tassie we've been. With crystal clear water and Lichen covered granite boulders it truly is a magnificent place to visit. Most of the Camps along the bay of fires are free camps and some sites have drop toilets. Not only is the coastline magnificent to look at it boasts some of Tassies best recreational cray fishing. For those interested in attempting to catch a few crays here's a few must know tips about licensing. You will need a different licence depending on how you intend on catching them. Rock lobster Pot, Ring and Dive Licences are all individual licences. We were lucky enough to catch a few during our stay and they are absolutely delicious!

DAY FI V E

ly spend You couldn't possibly on s it is one day in the bay of fire day stay definitely a mandatory 2 at the least. ng Bay Honeymoon bay, Binalo a few. the Gardens just to name re are the When looking at camps t on a heaps of free camps bu Cosey locals tip we stayed at y were the North free camp and most definitely correct. It is the d has what protected from wind an st access we thought was the be to beach and lagoon. of kayak Perfect place for a spot ling fishing or even just padd s. around the crystal water fresh so a Admittedly the water is won't go wetsuit if you have one end up astray particularly if you in the drink.

DAY SI X

If you're travelling down the coa st the next obvious stop would have to be Freycinet National Park, Coles Bay and the hike up to the Wineglass Bay lookout. You can camp within the national park (with a permit) which gives you access to all the amazing wa lks and beaches. A couple of the must do's are the wineglass bay lookout walk it's about a 2 hour return trip (tha t is with young children of course so depending on your ability you could get there quicker). You can also actually walk down to wineglass bay itself and rest up on the beach before heading bac k. There is an alternative lookou ta the top of Mt Amos which for those who are able would be incredible. There is a spectacul ar short walk up to the Cape Tou rville lighthouse where the walk hug s the rugged coastline and allo ws for breathtaking views.

DAY SEV EN

If your done with the exploring the national park it's time to head into the big smoke! Hobart is only a couple of hours south Freycinet (everything is only a couple of hours away in Tassie) and is such a fabulous city to visit with plenty of dining and shopping options. You can really sink your teeth into the culture of the place by wandering the city and wharf. Two fabulous things to do occur every Friday night and Saturday. Rektango is a free music festival held every Friday night from 6pm to 7:30pm. The music can be a mix of Jazz, Blues, Groove and Funk and attracts an eclectic group of people of all ages. It's a fabulous little outdoor venue in Salamanca Square and boasts good music and good vibes. The other obvious stand out must do is the Salamanca Markets held every Saturday. The markets are such a wonderful attraction drawing in thousands of people and for good reason. Stocking local produce, designers and food the markets there is so much to get through but if you look you can come away with some amazing buys!

Abell Point Marina launches eConcierge app Abell Point Marina is set to take customer service for guests and visitors to their marina to another level, by launching their e-concierge service in the form of a marina app. Available through Google and the Apple store, the Stay. Play.Explore app provides unprecedented access to information about the marina, it’s services and the Whitsundays. The Abell Point Marina app is the brainchild of marina dockhand Matthew Smith. Working as a dockhand and being committed to customer service, Matthew saw a gap in the marina’s wide-ranging services, which he believed could be leveraged with digital technology, leading to the concept and development of a comprehensive e-concierge app.

Guests and visitors to the marina are able to download the app before they arrive at the marina and review a wide range of information which will assist with planning their stay. The app is intelligently designed into three key sections, the Stay section focussing on marina berthing, a detailed marina map, weather updates and contact information for a wide range of marine services proving highly useful for boat owners and crew entering the marina for repairs and maintenance. The Play section focusses on dining & accommodation, marina & local events and shopping and pampering services available in and around the marina, including listing contact details for the full range of commercial operators who call Abell

Point Marina home. Finally, the Explore section focusses on how best to enjoy the Whitsunday Islands and mainland coast – from maps to hidden gems, this section is aimed at assisting guests and visitors getting the most from their Whitsunday experience.

From booking a helicopter ride, to locating the closest marine electrician or making a dinner

reservation, the Abell Point Marina app is yet another step made by the team at Abell Point towards providing guests and visitors with a world-class destination marina and unrivalled customer service. Halls Gap Lakeside Tourist Park owners, Rohan and Josephina McDonald are excited to launch the new Aero Glamper. “It took some convincing to get my husband to share my vision to introduce glamping because safari tents are expensive and they have a shorter life span than cabins. “But there was no stopping Rohan once he met the people behind GlampXperience who supply our safari tents and he saw the quality they had to offer. “He became so enthusiastic that he has taken it to a whole new level by bringing in a flight simulator. We really can’t wait to see how people react to the new experience,” Mrs McDonald said. Aero Glamping guests receive a free hour of flying with a flight director for each night they stay and also get to choose which of the world’s international airports they would like to tackle landing at. At night, the simulator can be set to autopilot and wannabee pilots can select their destination and enjoy the first class atmosphere from their own king sized bed. Coming from the Netherlands herself, when Josephina discovered that Dutch company GlamXperience, offering bell and safari tents was setting up in Australia, she saw them as the perfect fit for the park. The park has been fully upgraded and renovated in the last four and a half years, with its main upgrades including modern cabins, the introduction of the wood fire outdoor heated pool and landscaping. The Grampians and Halls Gap are world renowned for their majestic mountains, stunning walks, magnificent waterfalls and their rich Aboriginal heritage, the perfect destination for anyone looking to get away.

SET GOALS YOU CAN SMASH IN Story: Candice Panton

So as you know, 2017 is fast approaching and what better way to start off the new year than with some new business goals to smash out of the park? Here’s some tips to help get you started. First, take your biggest goal and break it down into small steps. It will seem less daunting and the feelling of accomplishment as you smash those small goals will feel amazing. Sounds great right? Like other aspects of life, our minds are a powerful thing. Stop procrastinating! I mean it - stop! Staying productive can be hard with so many distractions, but those things can wait. Use your time wisely and you’ll achieve your goals with no worries at all. Also, stop stressing! Don’t worry if you don’t meet your goal deadline one week - you’re still making the effort - BUT! Don’t let small tasks build up, you will feel like you’re drowning. Just keep chipping away and you will get there, trust me. Here are a few tips for making time: • Stop saying yes to things you really don’t want to do or don’t have time to do.

• Cut out things that aren’t moving you in the direction of your goal or are just plain getting in the way. (Probably don’t get rid of the kids though...) • Make space for work and play so you can focus when it’s time to work – if you’re going to watch TV, then watch TV. If you’re going on Facebook, then be on Facebook. If you’re going to set aside time to work, then you need to be working! • Stop saying you’re too busy, too tired or even too stressed? Your brain will start to believe you and we all know how powerful our minds are don’t we? • Plan everything in advance. Write out a plan, stick it up in your office so you can see it. Every. Single. Day! Action it - stick to it - smash it. One last thing: stay in your own lane.. Your goals should be for you, not doing the same or more or better than someone else you’ve been eying online. Stop comparing yourself to others. How many times have you heard that? I know I’ve heard it alot in my personal life and achievements, so why would in business be any different? It’s not. Who cares of Jenny Do-Gooder is posting online. Be unique, stand out from the crowd!

8 new habits to be the best version of you in 2017

1. Drink more water 2. Make breakfast a priority 3. Get more sleep 4. Eat clean wholefoods 5. exercise daily, even just a walk 6. Eat less but more regulary 7. Don’t skip meals 8. no technology 1hr before bed

Putting the Christmas blow out behind you We all know that we try to be good leading into Christmas to get our Summer bodies, and we are finally finding that balance of eating healthy, drinking in moderation and exercise and then Christmas hits and we are left with the aftermath of disastrous eating, few to many beverages, no sessions at the gym and the biggest work out over the time would be getting out of the pool to get an ice cream or a cold drink and in most cases a cold beer or sparkling wine. This though is life, this is time we get to let go and enjoy the finer things in life together with our family (of course meant to be in moderation) The key is to allow yourself to enjoy it, if it is what you choose to do, but‌.. yep there it is a but remember to put it behind you quickly. The benefits of paddle boarding Over the past 3 years, Stand up paddle boarding was reported as the outdoor sporting activity with the most first-time participants of any other sport, and it’s no wonder why. It is relatively easy for anyone to do, and the health benefits gained from paddle boarding are tremendous! It’s the perfect family activity this summer, so give it a try, and you’ll notice how much better and stronger you feel. We asked Mick Slattery from Surefire Boards to list the top 10 Health Benefits of Stand Up Paddle Boarding: · Improves balance: Standup paddle boarding requires you to stand upright on the board, which requires a lot of core stability and leg strength to maintain balance. This not only helps you have a good balance while paddle boarding but increases your focus and balance in day-to-day activities, as well. · Full body workout: Almost every muscle in the body is used at some point during paddle boarding. Because of the balance required, leg muscles will be hard at work attempting to stabilize your centre of gravity, while the arms, back and shoulders are used to propel the paddleboard in the water. The core, back and abdominal muscles are constantly at work to maintain your balance. · Low impact: Stand up paddling is a very low impact exercise. Therefore, it is unlikely that you will do damage to the tendons and ligaments of your joints. Paddle boarding is particularly useful for runners that are experiencing shin splints or knee and hip pain, yet still need a good exercise to do while healing. · Reduces stress: Water naturally soothes the body and exercise helps to reduce stress. Add to all of that the soothing sounds as you glide through the water, the sensation of actually walking on water, and the rhythm of your stroke, and the stress you feel starts to loosen its grip on you and melts away. · Overall increased strength: After spending a day out on a paddleboard, it’s natural to feel a little sore all over your body. But soreness is a good thing because that means you are building up your overall body strength.

· Cardio workout: If you spend enough time out on the water paddle boarding, you can get a good cardio workout. You can also race your friends while paddling to make it a bit more motivating and challenging, which is a good way to get the heart rate up. · Useful in rehabilitation injuries: Because of its low impact nature, paddle boarding can be a useful tool for people in rehab to gently increase strength without doing any harm. It is very gentle on your muscles and joints. · Improves endurance: Once you learn how to stand up paddleboard, you begin to master it with increasing endurance of the constant paddling. Once you notice that your balance is improving and your muscles aren’t getting quite as tired, then you know your endurance is increasing. · Better cardiovascular health: Paddle boarding is a great activity for overall health because you are actually doing a great amount of exercise, similar to running, aerobics, or even cross-training, you’ll have improved cardiovascular health and less risk for related diseases, and you won’t even know you are doing it as it is so enjoyable. · Allows you to connect with nature: Being out on the water is calming, and engaging with nature can have a positive effect on your mental health and attitude. In addition, getting some extra vitamin D from the sun is good for you, and hanging out with friends and family is also an added bonus. We also asked Mick his top 3 favourite spots to Paddle board: 1. Anywhere where there is coral, reefs or marine life. We are so lucky that we have an amazing coastline the entire way around Australia that is clean and great for paddle boarding. There are always places to paddle in pretty much any weather conditions too from coves, inlets, rivers and basins. 2. We have an amazing area all around us but one of my favourites is on the Port Hacking River near the opening to Cronulla. On a decent swell we get waves that break over a shallow sand bar for hundreds of metres and is so much fun sharing waves with your friends 3. Uncrowded surf spots. This is a must as Stand up paddle boards are very dangerous in the surf so always stay away from surfers and swimmers, find an empty peak somewhere and enjoy yourself.
