The Coolangatta beachfront will host the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) Beach Volleyball competition, thrusting the eyes of the world onto the city’s iconic oceanfront over the course of the April 4-15 2018 event. The sport secured a spot in the GC2018 Sports Program after an historic agreement was signed in March 2016 between the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), the Queensland Government and the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC). Staging Beach Volleyball in a temporary stadium at the city’s southern-most beachside location means that spectacular television images of the Gold Coast’s iconic coastline will be seen by 1.5 billion people across the 71 nations and territories of the Commonwealth. The Gold Coast’s beautiful beaches will be a drawcard themselves during the Games, but the Beach Volleyball competition at Coolangatta will take things to a whole new level for locals, and the thousands of visitors, who will experience this exciting sport in a spectacular part of the world. After a city-wide scout, Coolangatta was chosen, in part for its capacity to accommodate the infrastructure needed to meet international federation guidelines. It’s the latest move by the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC), the Queensland State Government, City of Gold Coast and their Games Delivery Partners to make the most of, and show off, the

city’s waterways during the 11-day event.

excellence and second to none.

Another sport that will make the most of the Gold Coast waterways will be the Triathlon and Para-Triathlon Races that will begin with the swims in the Southport Broadwater.

The GC2018 Sports Program will feature 18 sports. They are Athletics, Aquatics (swimming and diving), Badminton, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Cycling (road, mountain and track), Gymnastics, Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Rugby Sevens, Shooting, Squash, Table

And what a hub the Broadwater will be with the Aquatics competitions – Swimming and Diving – to he held just metres from Australia’s busiest waterway at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre at Southport. The Diving competition will offer particularly spectacular views of the water and city skyline from atop the 10 metre tower. Just as the 1982 Games in Brisbane were a pivotal moment for the city, so too will the 2018

The Queensland Government is delivering three new worldclass competition venues while undertaking major upgrades to a further seven venues that will provide important sport and community facilities for South East Queensland.

These events will be staged across 18 competition venues with 14 sports on the Gold Coast, two in Brisbane (Shooting and Track Cycling) and the preliminary basketball matches played in Cairns and Townsville. In hosting GC2018, the Gold Coast will become the latest to join the list on Australia’s international sporting roll of honour. Australia’s first major sporting event was when Sydney hosted the Empire Games in 1938. This event later became known as the Commonwealth Games and has been hosted by

This $320 million investment into sport and community infrastructure for the Commonwealth Games will generate more than 1,400 jobs. Construction of the Commonwealth Games Village will inject an estimated $550 million into the local economy and is estimated to generate 1,500 full-time equivalent jobs across the design and construction phases. In addition to 14 upgraded venues across the event cities,

and the temporary Beach Volleyball stadium, three brand new sporting venues are under construction - the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre, the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre and the Queensland State Velodrome at Chandler in Brisbane.

For further information visit www.gc2018.com and subscribe to the monthly eNews and follow the Games on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Images Supplied by Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation

The construction of another new multi-purpose venue, a Super Sound Stage, has also just been completed at the Oxenford Studios. In all, some 30,000 full time equivalent jobs are being generated by the Games’ preparations - an event that will inject more than $2 billion into the local economy. It is certainly a massive undertaking and a hugely exciting two years ahead as Queensland prepares to host 6,600 athletes and team officials, supported by 15,000 friendly volunteers. Liquid Life & Leisure

Do you love holidaying outdoors but you’re not ready to invest in an RV or you already own one (lucky you!) and you’d like to hire it out?

expanda and poptop caravans, camper trailers and even annexes and accessories.

Caravan and Camping Hire Australia strives to do two important things:

If you really want to enjoy camping without the investment, hiring is definitely the way to go. Caravan and Camping Hire Australia offers a super-easy booking system, the option of talking directly the owner to sort out any nitty-gritty and they offer rentals for as little as $60 per day!

2 Help Aussie caravan, motorhome and RV owners make some extra cash by hiring out their RVs to lucky campers. Caravan and Camping Hire Australia are most definitely NOT ‘the new kids on the block’ when it comes to hiring. They have years of experience in the business and offer a range of over 100 caravans and RV’s across Australia year-round. They’ve also established solid partnerships with businesses like Campedia, Getaway Caravan Hire and Family Parks Holiday Parks & Campgrounds and depending on your state, hire out full-body,

Does your RV spend most of the time in the driveway (apparently 80 to 90% of them do)? Then it’s time to put it to work … for you! Caravan and Camping Hire Australia’s hiring out process is completely free, and includes all information on insurance requirements and gives you the flexibility of choosing when your RV is available for hire, who you hire to and what you’d like to charge.

If you want to hire.

Plus, all hirers are screened so that you can be 100% confident about the process and whom you’re dealing with. Along with top-notch customer service, they’ll even handle all the TELEVISION 39 enquiries, payments, quotes and paperwork for you! How easy is that?

Is your boat moored quite a distance from where you live? Do you work away, travel a lot for work, constantly worried about if your boat is still safely tied to the jetty after that week of high winds, are the bilge areas still dry after that night-week of rain?

a fortnight minimum, however it’s hard considering he is not always available to do these important tasks, who can you trust to do all of the above, your neighbour or a friend? We’re sure he’s a good bloke but does he really know what he’s doing and what he’s looking for?

Being a boat owner, Ben use to travel a lot for work, and knows what it’s like to have these concerns, as much as he knows his boat is in extremely good condition and that the last time he was on it everything was working correctly, knowing he tied the mooring lines off correctly before leaving, but what if the high winds while he is away, stretch the ropes, letting the gelcoat become damaged from rubbing on the jetty etc., a hose clamp has started to deteriorate and the hose has started weeping from the hose tail on the through hull fitting. If your boat is moored at a marina will the marina manager notice that your mooring lines are lose and your boat is now on a slight angle, just enough to let the stern/bow rub on the jetty, the list goes on.

This is where Ben comes in. He is an experienced boatie, and at 34 years old and has been around boats all his life, including his own boat (36FT Mustang). Ben has done his own servicing on the boat including oil change, replacement of fuel pumps, replace injectors, replace water pumps, replace/repair bilge pumps, water impellers, drive belts just to name a few. He really does know what it takes to look after a boat!

Ben likes to run his engines, genset, air con etc, at least once

Do you need:

• Mooring lines checked & re-tensioned • Bilge pump area inspected & test of bilge pump (on-off) • Engine run & Visual inspection • Shore power check • Genset run & Visual inspection • Running of aircon units • External wash down (before or after a trip)

Get more out of life with chiropractic care What is chiropractic care?

Chiropractic care is a procedure done by trained specialists that involves ‘chiropractic adjustment’ - a process whereby chiropractors use their hands or specially designed instruments to apply a sudden, controlled force (or in some cases, constant or indirect pressure) to spinal joints that are ‘locked up’, fixated or not moving properly. The aim is to add movability to the joint, increase nervous system function and improve a patient’s overall health.

22

Why is it done?

Patients often seek chiropractic care to help correct structural misalignments and improve a range of conditions including neck pain, lower back pain and headaches.

What happens during a session?

During your initial consultation, your chiropractor will query your health history and perform a physical exam (paying particular attention to your spine), which may involve treating you in specific positions to enable treatment of affected areas. They will use their hands or specially designed instruments to apply pressure to your joints, pushing them beyond their usual range of

Liquid Life & Leisure

motion and you’ll often cracking or popping sounds as the treatment takes place.

What happens after the adjustment?

Some patients may experience minor side effects including fatigue, headache or minor pain in the specific areas that were treated and may decide to partake in other procedures that have been recommended by their chiropractor, including X-rays, massage, stretching, electrical stimulation, exercise or weight loss.

What are the results?

The results vary according to the severity of a patient’s condition and the depth and breadth of the treatment offered, however

chiropractic adjustment can produce a variety of positive results, including improving a patient’s posture and physical function. Patients have also noted positive treatment results for a range of problems, including back pain, headaches, neck pain, arthritis and joint pain. It can also improve a patient’s mood, as adjustment can help balance out the body’s entire system, including it’s chemistry, and assist with sleep quality (as most sleep-related issues are due to pain and body aches). And it can be a beneficial treatment for relieving stress, both mental and physical, as it helps send ‘relaxed messaging’ to the body’s nervous system.

Looking to get healthier? IT’S ALL ABOUT BODY, MIND AND SOUL.

If you’re striving to achieve a healthier lifestyle, those one-off gym sessions and the occasional salad-only days just won’t cut it I’m afraid. Living a healthier life is a holistic endeavour and takes patience, perseverance and positivity. And it really is all about body, mind and soul.

BODY It’s a fact. The optimum way to gain serious results from your exercise routine is by watching your diet. Regardless of how much you exercise, if you’re eating badly your athletic performance simply won’t improve. That’s because losing fat and building muscle actually happens outside of the gym.

28

Liquid Life & Leisure

How does it work? Exercise itself doesn’t really increase muscle mass, it’s the food that you eat transformed into energy that’s the key to building muscle. So in essence, food builds muscle and your metabolism helps you lose weight. The right diet can also help you recover better after a hard session and will give you way more energy. And that means your training sessions will be more effective and you’ll gain better results.

MIND OK, so you’ve got the basics of the physical side of getting healthier, but what about the mental side. We all have days when we’re simply too tired or time poor to invest in our health. But guess what? That tiny, negative voice in your head telling you that you ‘just don’t feel like’ your morning run can actually be reversed if you practice building your ‘mental muscle’. It does take work though, and while the process is largely selfdirected, there are a range of

things you can try that can help steer your brain towards your desired mindset. Make a commitment. If you mentally commit to an exercise routine by writing it down, telling others about it and reminding yourself about it constantly, you’re more likely to follow it - simply because you know it’s the right thing to do. Practice mental imagery. Picture yourself exercising and overcoming set backs and create a mental mantra that will help you when your brain tries to sabotage your fitness intentions. Mentally repeating phrases like “I can and I will” and attaching goals to your mirror or fridge, will help you stifle those negative thoughts and consistently remind you about the importance of your goals. Cultivate self-discipline. Perspective is everything when it comes to achieving goals and if you see them as a challenge as opposed to a threat, you’re more likely to succeed.

It’s also important to believe in yourself and to develop an ability to do what you have to do, whether you feel like it or not.

SOUL Need a bit more motivation? Working in tandem with others on mutual goals can be enormously satisfying. You’ll gain confidence, exude positivity and attain a tremendous sense of soul-satisfying achievement that you might find a little more difficult gaining through solo training. CrossFit Meraki, run by head coach Stephanie Thomas, aims to help women of all abilities, shapes and sizes to realise their health and fitness goals, and their 6-week Winter Challenge, which starts on the 16th July, is the perfect way to kick off your healthy lifestyle goals, whilst gaining super-inspiring support from the whole CrossFit family. So stop procrastinating and make that life-changing phone call today. And prepare to transform your mind, body and soul.

Take Your Fishing To The Extreme with

Zacatak Lures Game fishing lure manufacturers have long capitalised on the benefits of imitating bioluminescence in lure skirts. Extending this theory to the head of the lure seemed a natural progression - particularly as the glow radiating from a luminous head casts a spotlight on the lure skirt.

“And the more senses you evoke in the fish, the higher the probability they will strike!” Zacatak Lures ‘Extreme Luminescent’ lure heads stimulate biological triggers in fish that encourage them to bite. And the more senses you evoke in the fish, the higher the probability they will strike!

32

Liquid Life & Leisure

The Extreme Luminescent lures work by absorbing light and re-emitting it as a long-lasting ultra green glow. High-tech glow additives increase the contrast between your lure and its surroundings, acting as a visual stimulant for fish when light is at a minimum. If you’re fishing in the dark, it’s obvious that a luminous lure will be easier for fish to distinguish. However anglers will also see great benefit in running Zacatak’s Extreme Luminescent lures just before daybreak or on dull and overcast days. Even when the

sun is shining bright, UV rays will charge up your Extreme Luminescent lure, aiding visibility underneath the water – your lure will glow and flash to attract predators whilst performing its usual action. Being of soft composition, Zacatak Extreme Luminescent lures permit attacking game fish to strike repeatedly without being spooked by a hard and unnatural surface. Their light weight enables a more aggressive performance, maximising productivity of the lure and producing faster hookups. Zacatak Extreme Luminescent

lures can also be handled with little concern for damage to your boat or the lure itself. Teamed with their huge range of vibrantly coloured skirts (also enhanced with luminescence and UV optical brighteners to maximise light reflection and visibility), take your fishing to the extreme with Extreme Luminescent by Zacatak Lures! Visit the website today to find out more information or call the Zacatak Team on (02) 4932 1707.

Business Bits

Five Monthly Bookkeeping Tasks to keep your business running smoothly 1. Check in on your bank account balance.

Your business’ bank account balance is the easiest way to get a quick look at the financial health of your biz. You should set aside time to log into your account, check your balance, transfer any money to/from savings if needed, and read over your transactions. First, make sure there’s nothing there that looks strange or even fraudulent. Then, if you’re keeping track of your transactions elsewhere (like in a bookkeeping system, spreadsheet, or notebook) you can quickly match your transactions and make sure everything reconciles.

2. Scan or save important receipts + paperwork.

3. Summarize your monthly revenue + expenses.

If you aren’t using accounting software or a formal system to compile and analyze all your financial transactions, you can still set up a “quick & dirty” method to summarize your monthly sales and expenses. Open a simple spreadsheet or notebook, and just use a calculator to quickly sum your sales for the month. Do the same for your expenses.

4. Calculate your monthly net profit.

Take the total sales (or revenue) and expenses you just calculated and let’s do some simple subtraction! Revenue – expenses = net profit, aka how much you actually made this month. If the number is negative, that’s a net loss. You’d be surprised how many creative biz owners don’t even know if their biz is actually netting a profit each month.

5. Plan ahead for next month.

Set financial goals based on your yearly budget and your past performance. It can be supermotivating to set a sales or revenue goal for the month. Don’t forget to look at your expenses too – do you have any big expenses coming up that you need to plan ahead for? Take the lessons learned from last month and move forward with them. Where can you do better next month? Look at the calendar when planning for the month and make sure to account for any holidays or events coming up.

Make an effort to hold on to any documentation that might be important for tax time. Scan any paperwork and save it to a cloud-based storage system so you can reduce paper clutter in your workspace. Save important email invoices or receipts as PDFs and save them as well. It’ll be nice and easy to have all your financial records in one place.
