From the Editor... G’day G’day, September Edition already!!!! What happened, where did the first part of the year go? Don’t get me wrong, no complaints here, September – April is definitely my favourite time, so from where I sit everything is looking up. As I write this letter it is still August and we are experiencing magical days, and high 20’s so sitting outside the office soaking up the sun, this chick is definitely in heaven. People talk about the “winter blues” and while I am going through winter and the cooler months I don’t tend to notice, but the very first day I can strip off the layers, throw on a denim skirt, get the pins out, put a singlet on and throw on a pair of Havianna’s, I must admit I look back and think wow where was my head at, I definitely suffered the ‘winter blues’. So here we are, spring and summer ahead of us and did I mention already how excited I am. I think in a past life I must have been a bear, because I could easily hibernate the winter and come out to play in summer… ok, I kinda live that life anyway. The routine goes wake up, get ready, go to work, go to gym, go home, cook dinner (inside), shower, bed REPEAT. With the warmer weather, comes the longer days, comes so much being packed into each day. Wake up, go for a run, get ready, go to work, go to beach for a swim, go to gym, home, dinner outside, swim, shower, bed – yep you had me at September. So in our industry of caravan, boating, camping, travel, health and outdoors, this is where things really start to come alive, people are excited for holidays, they are excited to get the van or boat or camping gear out, seems I am not the only one that hibernates in the winter (don’t get me wrong we do take trips away and we do love being away in winter, just in a different way). Our September edition will run you through some fitness and meals while on the road, to give you some Spring inspiration, Discovery Parks share a list of

places to visit and reminding you to stop saying one day and make those days happen, Caravan and Camping Hire showcase a really great testimonial and very much worth reading, huge 4 page feature from Couran Cove Island Resort, don’t miss what they have to say and we get an update on the Commonwealth Games being held here in our home town of the Gold Coast. I so hope that many of you will be packing up the family, the van and the car and coming to share such a special time where memories will be made and looked back on for many, many years to come. These kind of events are important not only to adults but kids as well, I still look back on the season pass and the time spent with my family at Expo 88, I was 12 at the time and it is very much embedded into my memory bank and for this I have booked tickets for a couple of events at the Commonwealth Games and although we did not get our favourite events that we tried for , we did get some tickets that we are all very excited to be part of the atmosphere, the event and having the chance to say we went. Another event I recall was walking over the gateway bridge with my family when I was quite young and it first opened. I guess at the time when things come up and we are so busy at work and with life in general, we could quite easily let the event or experience slip through our fingers because it is easier to stay home, however if you just get involved and do it, you will be so glad you did when you hear your kids talking to their kids about it and looking back on the pics. Take the time and nurture your relationships and experience things that make your heart sing. Here is to an amazingly ridiculously fun September Living & Loving life

THE RIGHT TIME IS NOW

For whatever reason, over the years there has been a misconception that the recreational lifestyle is either for the rich and famous or for the grey nomads. Have you ever considered the benefits of the outdoors, being a boat, a bike, a caravan or simply driving and exploring this continent of ours now?

Why wait till the body gets tired? Why wait till the kids have grown up and deprive them of the opportunity? Give consideration to the old saying “the right time is now. Australia wide we are entering the caravan and camping shows season. This not only allows to dream, it allows to see, feel and then purchase at a special show price that normally does not get repeated for the rest of the year.

The options are generally...

BUY

Get into it, take the plunge and give the couch at home a break. What you will get to see and do will never be on the TV screen and it will be with you forever.

UPGRADE

Most of the sellers will also take your old gear as trade in, they are short of stock, which allows you to jump into the new gear for much less outlay and without the fuss of trying to sell anything yourself.

STAY STILL Stay with what you already have but have your financial position checked.

Westcorp Capital are fully equipped to go through your financial position with you and to pin point where improvements may be made, be it a refinance of your gear or a complete package which may even include your mortgage. There is hardly a case that cannot be improved. If you are in the market for the life changing plunge, contact Westcorp Capital before you make the final

commitment as they have put together show special packages that will be hard if not impossible to beat. We all hear on the news that the interest rates are at their lowest and in fact, the cycle of increase in interest rates has started. Now will be a good time to lock away some of your commitments with a fixed lower rate and isolate yourself from the movements of the money market.

“ Give consideration to the old saying “the right time is now

Gap Year! FA M I LY

“The second night, roast night, was even better with the whole family eating for $25!”

When asked to do a piece on an out of the way place, I initially drew a blank. In 580 days of being on the road, we stuck to the coast roads almost exclusively and therefore many of our destinations were well known ones. After a little thought though I came up with Junee.

One of the first surprises was the price, after consulting Wikicamps we stayed at local golf club for $5 per night for an unpowered site! There aren’t too many locations in Australia that can boast that low a nightly fee. And the bargains didn’t stop there.

Junee is on the edge of NSW’s riverina district, about 100km north east of Wagga Wagga. Now I’ll admit we didn’t see Junee plastered in many tourist rags, on billboards or any tourist lifestyle shows, we went because of a strong family history on my wife’s side, however I am really glad we went because Junee was full of surprises.

We arrived in the late afternoon and decided to eat at the golf club itself. We have some dietary needs between us, however the golf club catering staff went out of their way to accommodate us and again at a bargain price. The first night we had opted for a few items from their al-a-carte menu and can’t have spent $30 including a few frothy beverages.

The second night, roast night, was even better with the whole family eating for $25! No that is not a typo! In terms of entertainment, the main attractions are as follows: Golf - You can play golf at the golf club we stayed at (who would have thought) and it looked like a nice enough course. I didn’t play, but I’m betting green fees are a bargain and I can vouch for the 19th hole - it was excellent - genuine 1970’s prices! Monte Cristo Haunted House - Junee has it’s own haunted mansion complete with ghostly apparitions if you’re lucky.

I’m not sure I believe in this stuff, but after reading the stories surrounding the house, I was pretty creeped out wandering through its ancient halls. Junee Chocolate Factory - With two kids and two chocolate addicted adults in our camp, this was always going to be a highlight. It’s in a grand old factory with heaps of historical value and they appear to be going from strength to strength. There are tours of the factory, you can watch chocolate being made (even if you’re not on a tour) and of course there is plenty of chocolate and lollies to buy. Well worth the trip. Junee Rail Museum and Round House - This was really neat with plenty of hands on stuff for the kids to do. Junee was at a major junction in rail terms in it’s heyday and there are plenty of trains and artifacts from that era to look at including plenty of train engines and carriages and a great model railway. The kids and I were entertained for

hours. Town Centre - This is an old town that has plenty of historical sites to check out. Junee was a hub of the area at one time and used to be considerable larger in terms of population. There are signs of that bygone prosperity everywhere and worth wandering around. The hospitality is super friendly as you would expect and the locals really go out of their way to make your visit a special one.

this region. It’s chilly in winter, however the golf course club room had a very inviting roaring open fire to warm your weary bones after a day or two of sightseeing. The frothy ales were also in plentiful supply to ensure you don’t overheat from the fire or you visit at a warmer time of year. Good on you Junee :-)

I mentioned that my wife has family connections to Junee. Yas’s grandparents actually met in this little town, and went on to be married in the local catholic church, which we explored together as a family. While Nan and Pop are no longer with us, we did manage to enjoy some time catching up with family members still living in this beautiful town. It was a special time for us all. So there you go, Junee is well worth a look around if your travelling through

WHAT TO LOOK FOR

IN AN OFF ROAD CAMPER TRAILER Few things compare to hitting the road on a 4WD adventure, knowing that you’ve got everything you need (down to the kitchen sink) right there with you. Off-road camper trailers are similar to their on-road counterparts in many ways but have some key differences that enable them to travel over rough terrain. They incorporate a reinforced chassis that can cope with the extreme conditions that come with off-roading. And the suspension and tyres are also upgraded to allow the trailer to grip well on uneven terrain and make it easier for a four wheel drive vehicle to tow. There’s little doubt that going off-road with a camper trailer can open you up to a world of great experiences. But if you’re thinking about taking the plunge and buying your first all-terrain camper, there are a few things you should consider first.

WELCOME TO THE HOTTEST GOLD COAST ADVENTURE DESTINATION! Game Over is Gold Coasts biggest indoor adventure destination and we had the opportunity to spend a day at this place over the recent Qld School Holidays. Now if you are staying on the Gold Coast with or even without kids, this place is worth a visit. With rock climbing – clip n climb walls good for kids and adults, you get to test your skill set and for those that have a competitive nature you can race your partner or friends for time. We spent most of our time on the GoKarts, coming from a racing

AUSTRALIAN MARINE WHOLESALE ELEVATED YOUR BOATING ENJOYMENT TO EXCITING NEW LEVELS! The boating experts at Australian Marine Wholesale have long been renowned as the vanguard when it comes to electronics and equipment that empower you to really have fun on the water. The AMW team not only sources, supplies, installs and calibrates the most reliable accessories and equipment, they also take great pride in educating customers to ensure they enjoy the full features of their purchase. “Confidence, safety and fun are at the very core of our philosophy, equally as important as ensuring customers get exactly what they need without paying too much for something they may never even fully use,” said the Gold Coast-based company’s general manager, Errol Cain. AMW was recently awarded Fusion’s Australian Retailer

of the Year for 2017, recognising the efforts of the AMW team to give consumers confidence that they will get the right advice and support when buying. “Before we recommend a product to our customers, we listen and learn how they use their boats so we can ensure they get exactly what they need,” said Mr Cain. “Quite often people who have purchased elsewhere come to us to help sort out issues with their equipment or installation and it’s then that they see what really sets AMW apart.” With over three decades of experience in marine electronics and equipment, Mr Cain has fitted marine technology to thousands of vessels – everything from super yachts to sailing catamarans,

trawlers to trailer boats – and has built up a wealth of knowledge and a very experienced team. He has also formed very close and personal alliances with many of the world’s leading manufacturers of marine electronics such as hi-tech night-vision cameras, sophisticated fish-finders, radars and chart-plotters, as well as high-capacity water-makers and energy-efficient LED lighting. “Australian Marine Wholesale sources its technology from throughout the world in an effort to stay at the forefront of an ever-evolving industry,” said Mr Cain. “Our ever-expanding suite of brand products includes BlueWater Desalination, Pacific Light Watermakers, Raymarine, Garmin, ACR, Icom, Simrad, Lumitec,

location tracking, SOS notification and navigation data no matter where you are in the world.

Remaining at the forefront of new technology has led to AMW opening a giant new super store at The Boat Works, from which the team is growing its range of exclusively distributed brand innovations. “The new mazu iPad app is one such innovation – it’s is a simple solution for communication connectivity that enables blue-water cruisers to navigate the open seas with great confidence and safety,” said Mr Cain.

“It taps into a global SOS system that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days every year and it is monitored by the international emergency response coordination centre, GEOS. mazu’s monthly connection plans also offer an optional sentry system that keeps track of vessel functions including battery voltage, high water/bilge and intruder alarms as well as anchor and vessel movement, and sends alerts to directly to you.”

“mazu is a cost-effective alternative to expensive satellite systems that gives you fingertip access to live weather forecasts, email, texts,

DOMINATE YOUR DAY To live the ultimate alpha life

Recently I went through something that I would call a “down” moment. As odd as it sounds we all have these moments where it is almost as if we are shut down and often these are more than moments and can last months if not handled appropriately. What happens in a “down” moment? Put simply, we lose all drive and motivation for EVERYTHING Yes EVERYTHING Even for the things in life you are truly passionate about and absolutely love doing. For me this included: Training, eating, reading, business, education, getting outdoors and even socialising. It was a massive contrast to how my life was tracking in the months previously. Every day I was full of energy, focused on my goals and literally nothing

could stop me. When all of a sudden… A slow deterioration began to happen. This also happened smack bang in the middle of winter when the daylight hours are shorter in Sydney and our bodies require that little bit more sleep. But to increase the amount of sleep we get then we need to make a trade off somewhere. For me the trade off for the needed extra sleep was dropping my morning rituals and daily habits. Things that I do every morning and night to ensure I live every day to the fullest. It’s the kind of stuff you hear about and shrug off as sounding a little bit airy-fairy and it wasn’t until I stopped implementing them that I realised how valuable they really were and just how much of a positive impact they actually had on my entire life and day. Literally in 3 days of implementing these

morning rituals and daily habits my life was turned all the way back around. What are the daily habits and rituals? My daily habits are split into two main sections. Firstly, I have a simple daily journal that allows me to plan out my day, record my goals and major tasks for the day but it also get’s me to record three things I am grateful for every morning and night. I fill it out first thing in the morning and before I read at night. There is a heap of pre-made journals available for purchase. I use the bestself. co daily journal and can’t recommend it highly enough. (link at the bottom of this article) Secondly, I implement a simple gratification/meditation technique for roughly 5-10 minutes first thing in the morning where

I focus even deeper and really try to visualise three main things: 1: I envision the three things I am grateful for (usually this is made up of two very simple things and something a little bit more meaningful). For example this morning I was grateful for a beautifully sunny morning, my health and also the opportunity to help people get more out of their lives. 2: I focus deeply on 3 main goals I am working towards and begin to envision myself having achieved them and how it feels to have finally reached them.

What’s the purpose of showing gratitude? Tony Robins explains it as simply as this: The two emotions that stuff us up the most are fear and anger. When you are truly grateful you cannot also simultaneously be fearful or angry. So simple! One of the MAIN things holding you back from completely transforming your body, your social life, your sexual life, your professional life and basically your ENTIRE life is the fact that we live with fear and anger every day.

3: Finally I ask my self the question “how can I love more today” and focus on how I can spread love to everyone I come in contact with for the day. The second part is a technique I picked up from the worlds leading transformational speaker Anthony (Tony) Robins. There’s a link to a two-minute video on it at the bottom of this article! Like I said previously, it does seem a little airy-fairy, but these simple daily habits and strategies lead to massive changes in your life. Now I know you already have some questions surrounding the purpose of it all.

What’s the purpose of writing down your goals every day?

So let me answer them…

For me it literally takes a total of 15 minutes a day. I now see it as

This is exactly why writing them down each and every day is so vital. If you truly want to achieve something then it needs to be at the top of your mind and you need to see it and visualise it every day. How long does all of this take?

The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) will be the spectacular culmination of the extremely hard work of thousands of people within the Queensland State Government, the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) and the City of Gold Coast. True to our vision, we are on track to successfully deliver Australia’s biggest multi-sport event this decade. Unprecedented in Games circles, all new sporting venues will be delivered on budget well ahead of GC2018. They will leave a lasting legacy for the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Queensland for many years to come. They are a great demonstration of collaboration across all agencies for the best outcomes for the city and state. Since the inception of the Games in 1930, the event has been

a force for good and brought millions of people together through the power of sport. Our decision to offer affordable, accessible and inclusive ticket prices for GC2018 received an incredibly enthusiastic response and augers well for a family friendly Games with packed stadiums in April 2018. As a leader on various social issues, the Commonwealth Games has historically set the standard in areas such as gender equality, inclusiveness and sustainability. Proudly, at GC2018, for the first time in the history of a major multisport event, there will be an equal number of medals for men and women. We will also present the most extensive integrated parasport program in Commonwealth Games history with 38 medal events across seven sports. Our engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander

communities and the integration of Indigenous initiatives in ‘business as usual’ at GOLDOC is exciting and we are proud to share our vision through our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), the first for a major multi-sport event in this country. As you are about to discover, these are just some of the ‘firsts’ that will be delivered by the first Commonwealth Games to be held in a regional city. So, please join us for the Games, Festival 2018 and the many other wonders this sun blessed city and state have to offer. Some truly memorable experiences await.

ONLINE SECURITY a perpetual battle PART 1

We are all guilty of taking the security of our online presence for granted. Its no secret that we’re seeing more frequent “cyber attacks”. Attacks which can shut down websites & entire servers, more targeted phishing attempts, evolving ransomware, and the rise of compromised Internet Of Things devices. Given the dangers these looming threats pose to your personal data and security, it’s more important than ever to break bad online habits, says John Shier, senior security expert at Sophos. “Everyone is busy, and people fall into complacency. Maybe it’s reusing passwords for multiple online accounts or not being as careful with the information you share on social media,” he says. “These things might sound simple, but they’re important. You owe it to yourself to make sure you’re as safe and protected as you can be.” From stronger password security to stronger awareness of Internet Of Things vulnerabilities, here are five changes you can make this year to keep your personal information safer and more secure.

1. Be conscious about what you share

2. Be conscious about how you share

Criminals looking to compromise accounts often look to information you provide online for clues that might help them crack security questions. They might browse your Facebook friends list for family members to determine your mother’s maiden name, for example, or search your Twitter account for mentions of your wedding anniversary - both of which are answers to common security questions.

Equally important to what information you share is how you’re sharing it. You might divulge your Drivers Licence or Tax File number online when filling out applications for jobs, loans, or a credit check, for example.

“Cybercriminals look for any pieces of information they can use against you in a targeted attack,” Shier says. “Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn are all fair game, so you not only want to be careful about what you share in the future, but also about what you’ve already shared.” Make it a habit to think twice about what you post, and take time periodically to review your socialmedia accounts for posts and information that might be particularly sensitive or desirable to criminals. Don’t forget to regularly check your security and privacy settings too social media networks perform updates to their platforms which sometimes compromise your already-agreed privacy settings.

“You want to look for all the telltale signs that the website you’re using is secure, like the lock icon in your browser bar,” Shier says. “You also want to use good judgement: Are you familiar with the company that’s requesting this information? Don’t carelessly put this stuff out there because it can cause big problems if it falls into the wrong hands.”

3. Take passwords more seriously In December, Yahoo acknowledged that credentials for more than 1 billion accounts had been stolen in 2013—topping its own record for the biggest breach ever. That situation, Shier says, is the reason people need to take their own password security more seriously.

Cleanse and Detox your Mind

So when it comes to keeping house, we have this sorted. The kitchen is cleaned morning, noon and night, your bed gets made, sheets get washed, and clothes get washed folded, ironed and put away. Floors and bathrooms get done regularly, the yard gets mowed, cars get washed and the list goes on. So do we take the same time and care to nourish our minds, to keep them positive, to alleviate them of all nasties that may enter throughout ones day? We tend to get busy, we tend to keep pushing on and we tend to continue to deal with everything that is thrown at us. It is important to learn how to slow your mind, how to calm

your mind and how to keep a positive mind. The things that I find that work for me in a day that is fast paced and filled with full time work, fitness, and running around for kids are the following: 1. I start my morning with lemon water and 5 minutes of meditation, 5 minutes is enough for me and this happens as soon as I wake. I make my lemon water and as it cools I spend 5 minutes of being mindful.

These 3 things make sure you do not derail throughout the day, ensure to drink plenty of water. 4. Take time out for a walk, some sunshine, some exercise and disconnect from technology for a little bit. 5. Be kind to yourself and remind yourself of all the things you are doing right.

There are always going to be times that something gets the better of you and when 2. Healthy Breakfast, this not these times occur, recognise only fuels your body and sets them, own them, get up take good patterns for the day it a breather and quieten your feeds your mind with goodness. mind, then go back to the task at hand with a clear mind and 3. If what the weather people tell us is true, we are experiencing some changes in weather patterns Australia wide. While some areas have floods, others may be having fires, some have cyclones and some are just perfect this time of the year. Any plan we ever make is the basis for the changes we will make to it. So if you are currently travelling or planning to travel, please check the weather patterns applicable to the area

in which you are or going to. But remember, changing or adjusting your plans does not mean forgoing the experience or the enjoyment from the experience, it’s just the timing of it all which may allow you to do more, see more and enjoy more, so stress should be kept to the minimum. Equally important is the cover you have for your gear and possessions. Is your policy covering for floods? Is your policy covering for fire?

Made to stay, not fly away ...on the boat.

Commercial Outdoor Umbrellas Made for The Australian Summer. Australians love the sun. If you’re looking to stay safe whether you’re in the garden or by the pool, make the smart choice and invest in a Finbrella. Purpose built for our lifestyle, Finbrellas are designed in Perth for Australia, providing attractive and effective protection against sun, wind and rain. What sets the Finbrella apart is its unique, wind-resistant design. Stable on even gusty days, your new umbrella won’t turn inside thanks to its clever canopy geometry. Rather than relying on vents to reduce the effect of wind on the canopy, Finbrellas are designed with an innovative fin and are designed to allow the canopy to rotate. Allowing the umbrella to move reduces the effect of wind, meaning no more turning inside out or blowing away.

IN THE HOME, ON THE BOAT, OR AT THE BEACH One of the most versatile residential and commercial umbrellas for sale online, the Finbrella is the choice of people across the country. From backyard barbecues to beach getaways and time out by the pool, your new umbrella can go wherever you do. The range of anchoring options includes ground spikes for park trips, movable pavers for blending in with your landscaping, convenient Camlock bases and more, meaning your Finbrella can be easily set up anywhere. Made from high-quality acrylic and polyolefin fabric, your new Finbrella will be with you for summer after summer. Whether you choose the very portable F-160 or the family sized F-220 or F-280, you will be impressed

by the quality and the longevity of your new Finbrella. Hosting a summer party? Consider the F-330 and the F-400 – our largest models – and provide more than 10 m2 of shade. ACCESSORIES AND EXTRAS MAKING YOUR FINBRELLA MORE VERSATILE THAN EVER Alongside our core product range, we can also offer a range of optional accessories making your Finbrella better match your lifestyle. Our polished stainless steel centre pole option delivers superior performance in damp environments – marine grade steel makes it the perfect choice for trips on the boat. Take your Finbrella anywhere with our range of shoulder and zipup carry bags and protective covers, keeping your umbrella safe.
