editor’sthought...

Happy October LL&L Legends,

The months are definitely flying by and the end of the year is sneaking up on us quickly. In saying this, I feel very prepared for this and have really loved every bit of this year. Sure it has been a mixed bag and there has been good, not so good, great, amazing and just down right awesome. Personally I have achieved so much, enrolled in courses that not only better my own self, but also betters the Company, I got married, and have lost all that unwanted weight that somehow snuck on when life got busy. Professionally, the Company has gone strength to Strength and I find it important to bring these accomplishments to the table as so often we all get so busy with where we are heading, what we want to achieve that we forget to pat ourselves on the back for what we have achieved. Is this you in business or personal? Are you too busy focusing on your next purchase, your next goal and not giving any attention to the journey you have just travelled, sure it is important to strive, it is important to have goals but don’t forget how important it is to keep what you have done in check and take the time out to celebrate these little wins, you deserve it. This edition we focus on some of these wins and sharing these stories with you, including our journey to getting more energy with upping the ante with our fitness that in turn betters our position to study and achieve more in a day, it allows us to be the best we can be for our readers, our staff and our clients. A healthy mind and body absolutely allows you to kick goals at work and the timing of our CrossFit article is perfect for you if you are wishing to include this in your pre summer goals. Even if it is not weight loss you’re chasing, you might be a business owner needing to de-stress, a parent that needs some well-deserved time out, whatever the case may be CrossFit really is a great answer. The article on Cairns, our Sunday Spurs, Healthy Habits and Business Bits brings some really great reads and hope you enjoy them and get a lot from them. We would like to welcome Abell Point Marina, Tango Caravans and Cairns Coconut Resort to our Family and look forward to bringing you some great articles, updates and pics from these great Companies. It is important for us to partner with such great Businesses, who have a great presence in the market and we thank them for getting involved and look forward to working with them and keeping you well informed on what is going on in their world of business. There is many other great Clients that make our world go round and without them and you as the readers we would not be able to do what we love day in day out, so to all of you thank you so very much for supporting us, never do we take you for granted and every day we appreciate your support. We hope you enjoy this edition, as you know we love bringing it to you every month, the people we meet every month, the products we learn about and the fun we have putting it together is the absolute why to what we do. They say that unless you have a “Why” to starting something and a “Why” for keeping on going then you cannot expect to succeed, and you are all, our “WHY” .

Making the Journey as much fun as the Destination We were lucky enough to have the opportunity these school holidays to experience holidays on the road in a great luxury motorhome. Sure we are experienced travellers and campers and have spent our lifetime holidaying at places like Fraser Island, Moreton Island, Whitsundays, and the Gold Coast Broadwater where the experience is about the destinations, but what about those holidays that the journey is just as much fun as the destination. We are all so quick to get to where we are going, whether that be work, personal or holidays and sure our holiday destination was probably one 08

of the best that could be on offer – “Cairns Coconut Holiday Resort” and there was a lot to look forward to but we had to calm our farm and enjoy the days on the road that we were able to enjoy with the kids and each other. We had to learn to just be and take in our surroundings, we had to slow our minds and our bodies and do everything that seems to somewhere have been lost and learn to slow down and not be in such a damn hurry. When you travel by car and I say this from our perspective and know we don’t speak for everyone but although we have in the past lived relatively healthy lives, as soon as we are on the road we utilise all the fast food options we can to Liquid Life & Leisure

be sure we get to the barge on time, or we get to where we are going to beat the tides, or just to get where we are going, the list of reasons are endless. This trip though we packed the fridge with lots of healthy options, and found great spots where we could stop and just be with the kids and each other, no technology, just our surrounds and lunch. (Ok, I lie the kids had their hover boards) Travelling this way, I know is not possible for many and for us we are very grateful to have enjoyed the time spent in this motorhome and has now opened our eyes to a way of holidaying that we want to do more of in the future. We were able to pick spots on our trip up to Cairns that suited us to enjoy and would pull up around 530pm so we could enjoy the town we were in for a bit , learn a little about it , enjoy

the park , dinner, a quiet drink and early to bed for another day on the road the next day. Kids are left to their own devices, to come up with games to play, limited by only their imagination and one of the games our kids played was throwing an empty water bottle in the air and trying to land it (ok so this was pretty late in the trip and perhaps some boredom had surfaced) this possibly being due to us refusing to turn on the hotspot for them, unless they

were researching history or population of a town. We enjoyed treating the kids to some older songs, some stories of memories of our childhood and just general chit chat, that sometimes we all miss out on in the busy lives we lead. If you have always wanted to try this lifestyle whether it is in a tent, Caravan, Camper Trailer or Motorhome but don’t know where to start or seems to be an expense you cannot add to your life as there are many options to give you an

Liquid Life & Leisure

Our Trip went like this: Sunday 3.30pm left Brisbane, headed for Gin Gin where there was a great free camp and although we intended to utilise and pay for all our stops, the timing that got us into this town and the size of our “home at 12 m long, had us pulling into the Free Camp, which also allowed us to experience all options on the road, so not matter your circumstance or budget there is always something available. The stop was nice; however we pulled up in the dark and were back on the road by 6am. Monday had us pulling into Home Hill and staying at a nice quiet park, with friendly service and was next to the local pool which we had access to, so my daughter and I enjoyed laps

of the pool before breakfast, cuppa and being back on the road. Both days lunch were enjoyed on the road at a nice spot that had us stretching legs and refuelling ourselves. Arriving at our Destination We arrived in Cairns on Tuesday after lunch and although we absolutely enjoyed our journey, “Cairns Coconut Holiday Resort” is absolutely everything that their

mission states “To provide an unforgettable holiday experience for all guests” From the moment we walked into Reception this is what they delivered until the day we drove our sad sorry selves out of there. From the welcome, to the guided tour that they provide

every guest (this could have something to do with the sheer size of the park) nevertheless it is a great touch. They show you your site, the pools and all facilities that are included to make your stay as memorable as possible. Our stay was from Tuesday until the following Wednesday and in this time we enjoyed the following on site at the park • Mini putt putt

• Aqua aerobics • Pancakes • Gym sessions • Basketball • Swimming and relaxing in both pools, there is a splash park for littlies , our kids though to old • Enjoyed dinner at the café, breakfast at the café, and a

lunch at the café • Return courtesy bus that takes you into Cairns The park is truly a destination in every essence of the word. You have the choice of non powered sites, grass sites, slab sites, powered sites, villas, cabins you name it. Whether you are heading to Cairns for business, as a single, couple or family I suggest you

consider this park for your requirements you won’t regret it. Cairns Coconut Holiday Resort - www.coconut.com.au What to do in Cairns Or should we say what is not to do in Cairns. Cairns is delicious. Cairns is full of fun, adventure and excitement no

matter where you are from, age or gender you will find it hard to not enjoy Cairns.

brought the experiences to us that will live a lifetime in our memory bank.

We enjoyed the following: • Cairns Ninebot (Segway ) Tour www.cairnsninebottours.com • Sunset Cruise www. greenisland.com.au/greatbarrier-reef-cruises/cairnssunset-cruise • Snorkelling www.greenisland. com.au/great-barrier-reefcruises/full-day-green-island • Jetboating www.badfishy. com.au • Glass Bottom Boat • Lagoon in Cairns • Shopping

Return Leg So the mindset goes, if you are packing up, the holiday is over! However if you still have 2 nights to go is it really over? Of course it is not over, as it is just about the journey as it is the destination. I must say though Cairns and the resort are very hard places to leave and you can see how when you talk to a lot of locals it is the likely story of “came for 2 weeks and never left”.

So this is just a small drop in the ocean of the activities you can enjoy while visiting Cairns, but we feel we picked some great Companies and Tours and I can vouch that the links we have supplied you with above offer great value, service and experience. Everyone we dealt with on our trip where ever we went were so happy and informative like they had been doing this job for years, with the knowledge they had. The enthusiasm reflected the excitement a first day on the job brings. This is what tourism is about and what we should expect on our Holiday, so a huge shout out to the guys who

So we are packed up and ready to hit the road, heading for Bowen. Bowen, Bowen, Bowen - what can you say. What a diamond in the rough. Love this place and one night was near not enough here. We will be bringing you more on this region in coming editions so please look out for it. Next stop Boyne Island Caravan Park (www. boyneislandcaravanpark.com. au ), another great spot and friendly staff. Relax at the 12 acre park on the banks of the Boyne River. Enjoy the variety of birds and wildlife that visit the bushland surrounds. Laze

around the pool or if fishing or crabbing is your pleasure bring along your tackle and if boating is your choice the boat ramp within the park is very convenient. We didn’t get as much time here as we liked either, but do you really get enough time anywhere on your holidays. Well arriving back home on Friday, we are full of memories, experiences and good food and like all good things they come to an end and we are back to reality but all the better for our holiday on the road. Apart from everyone we have already thanked above we would also like to give a huge shout out to: • My parents for providing the Motorhome • Cut Price Solar www. cutpricesolar.com.au for powering it, and I suggest that anyone looking for camping solar, caravan and camper trailer solar to contact these guys. If you are thinking it or dreaming it, why not action it. I was taught from a very young age there are 2 things that waits for no man – Tide and Time. So get your travel on.

ninebot segway STYLE TOURS Cairns Ninebot Tours is a locally owned and operated company. We are the one and only Cairns segway tour. We encounter a lot of tropical flora and fauna and the possibility of spotting crocodiles, turtles & snakes. On our Segway Tour we will also pass through some unique mangrove systems which are important breeding grounds for many species of tropical fish found on the Great Barrier Reef. This is a fun, informative and most of all affordable Segway tour in Cairns for tourists and locals to enjoy. Cairns Segway tours are using the latest technology The Ninebot. IS THIS AUSTRALIA’S BEST VALUE CARAVAN?

Alluring Airlie Beach

The Gateway to The Whitsundays Airlie Beach in the past has donned a few tourism hats, including as a backpacker’s Barrier-Reef-bound stop in and a spectacular launching pad to the dazzling natural beauty of the Whitsundays. But these days, this coastal paradise offers so much more.

Airlie beach is one of Australia’s premiere resort towns in Queensland. It is the gate way to the Whitsundays, with breath taking sea cruises departing from abel point marina. This once-sleepy village has matured into a destination of choice for more sophisticated travellers yearning for a taste of the serenity that comes with an idyllic, harbourside haven. Whether you’re a sea-bound adventurer keen to explore the area’s sprinkling of palm-fringed islands, or a relaxation seeker looking for quiet cove to while away the endlessly sunny hours, Airlie Beach provides the best of both worlds.

Swim

For those that love a bit of BBQ-based entertaining, check out Airlie Beach Lagoon, a landscaped water park that oozes tropical vibes, or if you’d prefer a more natural setting, head halfway between Proserpine and Airlie Beach where you can scramble over a rock pool or two at Cedar Creek Falls.

Shop

Fancy a handmade souvenir or simply keen to taste test some of the areas local produce? Then don’t miss the Airlie Beach Markets. Held every Saturday from 8am, this bustling seaside venue showcases some of the area’s best artists and spruiks everything from shell chandeliers to home-grown culinary delights.

Ready to bag a memorable barra? Then organise a day trip to Lake Proserpine (about an hour’s drive away) and prepare to nail a catch you’ll be proud to write (or Instagram) home about. This spot truly is fishing nirvana and with 20,000 fingerlings loaded into the dam each year, there’s no chance of an ‘off season’ here.

Explore

Lace up those boots and get amongst the lushness of the area’s rainforests with a visit to Conway National Park, located around 18 kilometres north of Airlie Beach. Tracks abound here for all fitness levels and nature lovers will be kept busy, with a host of wildlife spotting opportunities for the taking.

Sail

And if you’re up for a bit of seafaring action, pop into the Whitsunday region’s largest marina at Abell Point Marina, where you can take off on a once-ina-lifetime ocean adventure or simply explore the vibrant village with its collection of superb dining establishments, including the Sorrento Italian restaurant and the Bohemian Raw organic café. Accredited as the first global 5 Gold Anchor marina in the world, Abell Point also has over 500 marina berths ranging in size from 12 to 60 metres, and a comprehensive range of related facilities to satisfy any VIB’s (Very Important Boatie’s) needs. If you’d like to ‘Stay, Play and Explore’ this world-class establishment further, or investigate a little ‘moor action’, take a look at their website or contact one of the friendly team on 07 4946 2400.

Take a short stroll east and you’ll discover Boathaven Beach, a picture-perfect spot with its soft, white sand and killer views of the Coral Sea. For those keen for a little low tide beachcombing, the Bicentennial Walking Track between Airlie Beach and Cannonvale offers sublime ocean views and a refreshing dip at the end.

Fish

We’ve gone overboard. Dive in and discover Abell Point Marina. The new Abell Point Marina located in the beautiful Whitsundays is designed to provide boaties with everything they need and more. Our marina village offers state-of-the-art facilities and VIB service (Very Important Boatie), including a concierge dockhand to guide you to your berth. The next level of Glamping has arrived in Australia After 7 years of collecting experience in the European market, GlamXperience takes glamping to the next level in Australia. In 2009 Léon Juffermans and Patrick Damen founded the company ‘Luxetenten’ in The Netherlands. Together, they introduced the concept of fully equipped luxury Safari Tents in Europe. Today Luxetenten is market leader in Europe and Leon Juffermans and his partner Sandra, decided to introduce glam X the same concept to Australia and Asia, under a new name; GlamXperience™. “The inspiration for our tents came from the 19th century British explorers, who used luxury safari tents on their expeditions through Africa” says Leon. “More than 150 years later, we still use the same principle of combining our fully equipped Safari Tents, with outdoor experiences only nowadays, we call it Glamping”. Over the years, Léon developed high quality glamping tents, which meet EU safety standards. “Our year round tents are very durable and strong. They are designed to last many years, in all kinds of climates and environments. The custom made interiors and matching styling, designed by Sandra, give our tents a sturdy look and feel”. “From our base in Dandenong (VIC) we are suppliers of Safari tents, Bell tents, Bedouin Tents, and unique Event Domes. Specially for Australia, we are developing a new so called Container Based Safari Tent and a range of Glamtainers. Our rustic furniture (custom made in Dandenong) is designed to the needs of our clients. But we also are distributors for Dutch outdoor design firm Weltevree who make the iconic Dutch Tub, Outdoor Oven and Guidelight. For the BBQ enthusiast, we offer a unique outdoor cooking experience with the OFYR, a wood fired hot plate offering warmth in cool months and a stylish object year round”.

“As we have experienced in Europe, glamping can be incorporated into a variety of tourism models, from boutique accommodation at a winery, to a family holidaying on a strawberry farm. We installed tents on holiday parks where the owners want to offer their clients a unique stay and to private landowners who were looking for guest accommodation. GlamXperience offers the total package, from advising which tents suit which site to interior styling tips and marketing strategies. Gluten – What’s the fuss?

From cafes, restaurants to super market aisle, we’re beginning to be see it everywhere – gluten free. Many people eat gluten free when they’re out or opt to purchase gluten free items with the belief that, ‘if it’s gluten free it’s got to be healthier, right?’ The challenge however is in understanding what gluten is and why you may want to free yourself from it? What gluten can mean to our health, what it may do to our bodies and how it may be contributing to other areas of your life. Hi – I’m Jema Lee, a gluten free nutrition educator and coach. For the last 14 years I’ve been learning, studying and educating myself on gluten. So let’s delve into it.

the last decade become something that has been encouraged out of our diets when it’s been around for centuries without and drama. Simply put, wheat and other grains that contain gluten have changed and are no longer what they once were. These changes started occurring in the 1960’s and have be regularly changing since then. Is it a coincidence that it has taken around 30 years for our bodies to start to notice these changes through our health?

So what’s the big fuss?

Gluten may affect you differently to a friend or family member and in some cases may be effecting you without you even noticing. These are referred to as silent sensitivities.

What is gluten?

This is a list of the most common symptoms of gluten sensitivities; • Aches • Arthritis • Chronic Fatigue • Cramping • Diarrhea • IBS • Infertility • Headaches / Migraines • Weight gain

Gluten was first discovered in wheat over 300 centuries ago, back in Egyptian times. Yet why all of a sudden in the last 3 decades has gluten become something that may be challenging our health? And in

So what – I don’t have a sensitivity? Giving up gluten for good is not so much about whether or not you have sensitivity to gluten. It’s about what gluten does to our bodies regardless of what we feel or see in relation to consuming

Such a great question – one that is quiet often answered with confusion. Gluten is a protein found it wheat. It can also be found in other grains too such as Rye, Spelt, Barley and Oats. Gluten is found in the endosperm of the grain, this part of the grain provides the grain with elasticity during germination. This is how bread today gets it’s fluffiness and elasticity.

gluten. Unbeknown to some gluten isn’t something that may affect us immediately or even after a week. The potential health challenges and sensitivities that are connected to gluten can come about many years after consumption. One of the best examples of that is how gluten can affect our guts. The gut is like our second brain. While our brain in our head does the thinking, it’s the brain in our gut that does the feeling. Over time gluten consumption can play havoc on this, as well as the stability and support that our gut provides to the rest of our body. The gut (small intestines) is lined with hundreds of thousands of little mini shagg-like carpeting worms, these are called villi. Underneath the villi is our blood system that is pumped all over our bodies. The blood system works so closely and is connected to the base of the villi as the villi absorbs the main elements of our nutrients; vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. The blood delivers these nutrients throughout our body to aid in healing, repair and growth. However it’s not just nutrients that may enter our gut, toxins, chemicals and bacteria can also. The villi however when healthy protects our blood system along with the shoelace like binds that hold each villi together, the zonulin. Now you don’t need to remember these sciencey names what’s important to know is why we have villi and zonulin and their roles in keeping us healthy. It’s when

our villi and zonulin are damaged and worn down/away that not just nutrients can enter our blood system, those other harmful toxins, chemicals and bacteria can too.

What does this have to do with gluten?

The challenge that gluten presents to our guts is that gluten eats away at the zonulin damaging it and breaking it down over a period of time. It’s only when these barriers have been broken away that we may notice changes in our health, how we feel and potentially the symptoms mentioned above. Remember that this doesn’t happen overnight, in fact this process of damaging the gut can take up to 7 years. It’s not just what we ate yesterday or last week that may effect our health. The food we ate as far back as a decade ago can affect our health. Gluten and foods containing gluten can effect our bodies in more ways than just in our gut. It effects our glycemic levels and insulin response, it’s addictive and can lead to weight gain and obesity. Surprising to some 2 slices of whole wheat bread contains more sugar than 2 table spoons of sugar. Which leads us to learn that gluten can also effect us just as much as bad sugars can, if not more. MD William David says it best, “Wheat can dictate food choice, calorie consumption, timing of meals and snacks. It can influence behavior” and mood. It can even come to dominate thoughts.” Trust you can see that gluten is not just a fad or trend. However when embarking on any new journey whether for yourself or to support another I encourage you to come to your own conclusion based on your own experiences. The most common effects from a complete removal of gluten from a

diet include: - Drop of appetite - Drop in calorie intake - Increase in weight loss - Drop in insulin production What next? Interested in reducing or eliminating your gluten intake? Perhaps you’re curious to see if living free of gluten may change your life and how you feel? Here are my top three giving up gluten tips.

3 Goodbye Gluten Tips:

1. Cutting out. Learn where gluten can be found and educate yourself as to where gluten is and where it may be hiding, this will enable you to make healthy gluten free choices and cut it out for good. 2. Be prepared. When eating out, going away, on a day trip and even in your own home. Always be prepared and have back up snacks, meals and plan. Like when you give up anything you’ll experience cravings, being prepared will alleviate these and help you put a stop to them as they occur. 3. Living gluten free is a lifestyle and way of living and not a diet. Embark on your gluten free should be fun and exciting. Surround yourself with others whom will support you and your new way of living. To learn where to find gluten, the gluten effects and more visit www. theglutenguide.com to get started and be guiding on a step-by-step 6 Week Program of saying goodbye to gluten. You might say it's a coincidence but I came across to many of my friends and family falling into this category to ignore it, so I chose to stop just admiring and became a participant. How to use Instagram for Business

1. Engage with other people This tip is first for a reason. Instagram is a social media outlet, so focus on the social aspect! Interacting with other Instagram users by liking, commenting and following them is the fastest way to make connections and build your following. It helps to interact with other users in your “niche.” This means that if you’re a bath and beauty company, interact with other soapmakers or users who might be interested in your craft. These people are more likely to appreciate your account and photos. They will also be more likely to follow you.

Make sure your interaction is meaningful and not spammy. In the beginning, I would recommend scheduling about 20-30 minutes everyday to engage with other Instagram users. A great place to start is to search hashtags that are relevant to your niche (ex: #soapshare, #diy, #soaping, etc). Another good option is to reach out to people in your community by searching the hashtag of your town. Instagram is a great way to make real life connections with other small local business.

2. Respond to people who engage with you

On the flip side, it’s crucial to respond to people who engage with you. After all, they took the time to reach out. This is especially important if the interaction is business related. For example, let’s say a customer comments on a photo asking how much a product is. Every user who sees that photo will also see the question. If the question is not responded to for a long period of time, that may deter the customer

who asked the question and future customers. On a slightly less serious note, it’s simply good manners to respond to comments and questions. Respond to people who engage with you first, including people who like your photos or follow you. If somebody takes the time to like your photos, take a few seconds to check out their account. If you see something you enjoy, give it a like. Don’t hold back on liking photos. It’s free, makes people feel good, and who doesn’t like giving a compliment? Liking a photo is just about the easiest and quickest compliment you can give. If somebody follows you and you also enjoy their content, follow them back. Having a reciprocal Instagram relationship with your followers is a good thing. It will make your relationship stronger.

3. Use hashtags on your photos

To find users to engage with and allow users to find your photos, using hashtags on your photos is key. Choose hashtags that are relevant to your photo. I try to always use a few “broad” hashtags to attract new followers. Just how many hashtags you is up to you. The smaller your Instagram following, the more hashtags I generally recommend. When using a lot of hashtags (say five or more), I prefer to leave a comment on my post so the caption is not cluttered with tags. Coconut oil: the benefits 1. All fats are not created equal Coconut oil contains short term medium-chain saturated fatty acids (MCFAs), which is a “healthy” form saturated fat compared to trans fat. Trans fatty acid consumption is linked with heart problems, depression and increased cholesterol levels. 2. Controls weight One 2009 study looked at the weight loss link between women’s consumption of coconut oil and found that it reduces abdominal obesity. Researchers discovered coconut oil is easy to digest and also protects the body from insulin resistance. To try coconut oil for weight loss start by adding one teaspoon to your diet and gradually work your way up to four teaspoons per day. 3. Eases digestion If you suffer from poor digestion or tummy bloating try adding coconut oil to your diet. Coconut oil has been found to benefit digestive disorders including irritable bowel syndrome

and microbial related tummy bugs. Fatty acids in coconut oil contain anti microbial properties, which have a soothing affect on bacteria, candida, or parasites that cause poor digestion. 4. Stops sugar cravings Instead of reaching for the lollie jar for an afternoon sweet hit, try eating a teaspoon of virgin coconut oil to beat sugar cravings. This is because good quality fat is more satiating than carbs, so if you cut down on sugar you will feel less ‘ravenous’. Most of us do not realize but constant hunger is a major clue that your body is not being fed correctly. With the proper amounts of fats and protein, you can fuel your energy reserves properly, and come off the sugar roller coaster that many of us are on. 5. Boost metabolism A study reported in the Journal of Nutrition found that coconut oil boosts metabolism. Researchers found that participants who consumed two tablespoons of coconut oil per day burned more kilojoules than those who consumed less.

Kids Yoga Yoga for kids: How to calm little minds Yoga for kids is becoming increasingly common, popping up in physical education programs and daycares and being added to the repertoire of yoga studios. While the physical benefits—improving flexibility, strength and coordination—are certainly part of its charm, yoga is increasingly used as a relaxation technique to help anxious kids combat the stresses of everyday life. Of course, there are also the physical benefits of yoga to consider. From easing muscle tension and improving circulation and flexibility to juicing joints that can get stiff from sitting in school or in front of the TV, yoga is a powerful tool for boosting your childrens’ overall well-being. And with fun names for positions derived from nature and animals, it almost seems that this ancient practice was tailor-made for kids.
