YOUTH RECREATION YOUTH RECREATION PROGRAMS Currently all school year and summer camp activities are subsidized by many generous partners allowing for us to provide recreation services to youth in Marin City and surrounding communities for a low cost to families.

SCHOOL YEAR PROGRAM The Manzanita Recreation Center is open daily from 3:00pm-6:00pm for youth in grades K-8 and works in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Marin and Southern Sonoma to provide programming. The evening programming for young adults ages 14-18 are during the hours of 6:00pm-9:00pm. MCCSD works to provide a diverse program to improve the overall and wellness of our participants keeping them engaged in their community in productive ways.

SUMMER PROGRAMS The Summer Camp program starts on June 19, 2017 until August 11, 2017. This program offers meals throughout the day from Monday through Friday. There are no income requirements or registration for the meals. The activities offered are Arts, Dance, Sports, Cooking, Gardening, Swimming and more. All ages are welcome and there is no fee.


SENIOR RECREATION PROGRAMS HISTORY The doors of the Marguerita C. Johnson Senior Center opened on August 28, 1988. Funds for construction of the facility were provided by the California Senior Bond Act. Through efforts of the Marin City community agencies and volunteers and various grants; programs are available to our Seniors. Program Goal: To operate an outstanding Senior Center for elderly citizens which includes providing a broad range of individual activities, group activities, and services specifically geared toward the aging population which will in turn enhance and improve the lives of Southern Marin's elderly population. PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES Congregate Meal Site: Hot lunch is provided every Wednesday by Good Earth Transportation: Transportation to and from the senior center are provided. Please call 415-332-9323 to schedule a pick up. Communities of Excellence (Cx3): Lead by June Farmer, Program Coordinator is an nutritional program that incorporates healthy living information and events Chair Exercises called Sit n' Fit is offered Every Wednesdays @ 1:00pm with Instructor Suzie Bell Healing Colors is offered for our Seniors Every Tuesdays @ 11:00am lead by our own Community Park Ambassador: Ms. Finley Computer Lab: A full service computer lab with internet and printing capabilities in open every Wednesday from 1:15-3:15pm Blind & Vision Impaired Support Group: Meets the 4th Monday of the month 12pm-1pm Grandparents Group: Meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 11am-12pm Senior Sunshine Club: Meets the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from 11am-12pm The Senior center also coordinates many special events and activities for the Seniors in Marin City. ADULT RECREATION ADULT RECREATION PROGRAMS MCCSD sponsors special activities and events for adults in Marin City. On site there is a boxing gym which is a full service fitness center for adults and youth. The District runs evening basketball leagues, softball leagues, and other activities for adults from 6:00pm-9:00pm M-F. Also, offered to the community are Parks Prescription Programs; which are exercise programs taught at the beautiful George "Rocky" Graham Park. The District also helps plan weekend events for adults including comedy nights, concerts, and trips. Please contact our office for more information about membership and upcoming events.

BOXING GYM & FITNESS CENTER The Marin Community Services District is happy to provide a boxing gym and fitness center open to the public. This project was made possible by generous donations from Peter Thompson and other county wide support. The center includes specialized fitness classes and boxing lessons. Please call for more information on classes and is lead by Edward Green, MCCSD Coordinator. Center hours M-F: 8am-12:00pm & 3:00pm-7:00pm (please call ahead to confirm) Currently memberships are free to the center during a preview period. The membership structure will be launched in September of 2014 and MCCSD strives to provide membership at a low and accessible cost to all residents. d??????


Park Prescription Program Park Rx Programs were adopted into the MCCSD and Marin City Health & Wellness Center for all ages for the community. The initiative Healthy Parks Healthy People was to provide patients along with residents an alternative method towards healthier living by enjoying exercise at the new George "Rocky" Graham Park. Also available is trail hikes that are lead by the MCHW Health Educator on specified days. One can enjoy the ambiance of either the Pacheco Creek Trail or Orchard Trail Loop.


Park Prescription Program One of Marin County Parks’ Measure A-funded community grantees, the Marin City Community Services District, is putting on free programming at the new George “Rocky” Graham Park in Marin City to engage local communities in the use and enjoyment of these park facilities. We invite you to come out and join us every Tuesday at 5:30 pm for Kokoro, an alternative healing and exercise program. The program has collective elements of Pilates/Yoga/Kaju Cardio/Meditation. This program will instill Relaxation/Rejuvenation/Revitalization! Instrustor 6th Dgree Blk Blt Donna Ramos-Burns

We have recently incorporated Zumba into our Parks Program. Melissa Chu is a well experienced and trained Zumba instructor that brings her flare to this Latin based exercise. Her experience with San Francisco Park Programs is an asset that enables her to smoothly transition her teachings from one community to another. Melissa's modifications to her select students embraces the first timers whom might be hesitant to try this type of dance-exercise program. Park Prescription Program Sit n' Fit is great practice for everyone, as it deepens flexibility and strengthens personal body awareness. Chair yoga has helped people with the symptoms of many health issues including: hypertension (high blood pressure), anxiety, chronic fatigue syndrome, arthritis, vertigo (medical), multiple sclerosis, Osteoporosis, Osteopenia, carpal tunnel syndrome, clinical depression, and chronic pain. Also, it has proven to help those suffering from insomnia.

THE CENTER FOR COMMUNITY LIFE, MARIN CITY The Marin City Community Services District completed a masterplanning process with Group 4 in spring of 2015. Currently, the district is engaged in a capital campaign to build the Center for Community Life in Marin City.
