The Sloth Encounter also known as A Day at the Farm

fter more than 25 years in South Florida, we thought we had seen it all . . . but not quite. The Sloth Encounter popped up on the radar and the family piled into multiple cars to see what that was all about. We discovered a family farm (140,000 acres) about 20 minutes from where we live. There were all sorts of farm animals along with a number of non-farm animals . . . plus a great new place to buy fresh vegetables. The sloths were actually very tame and not as unattractive as we imagined. We got to see goats, cows, sloths, kangaroos and dairy animals. Everyone was pet friendly. We also found a great new place to buy farm-fresh vegetables, including sweet corn, oranges, apples, lettuce and more than a few orchids. A few tried unsuccessfully to milk a wooden cow, smell orchids and avoid ground hazards. A good time was had by all. And, at the end of the day, I was recognized by one of the staff for wearing my NAVY ballcap and was refunded $50 admission fee for being a veteran. The only drawback was that we had to deal with temps in the low 80’s with a slight breeze off the ocean. Somebody has to do it.
