Crossville Shades 2.0 Used in Recently Completed Brightline Stations in Boca Raton and Aventura, Florida

FIorida is the fastest growing state in America. Construction is booming. Miami and South Florida are attracting tech companies from Silicone Valley who are moving to Silicone Beach. Following them are many upscale restaurants migrating from weather and economic conditions in the north; following the traffic. To accommodate the influx of people and businesses, the new rapid rail service Brightline will ensure quick travel throughout much of the state and easier access to major attractions, shopping and workplaces.

Brightline has established terminals and routes throughout South Florida from Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach, with a planned route to Orlando and Tampa.

This will provide riders with a two hour trip from West Palm Beach to Orlando at speeds up to 125 mph. Two recently-completed stations in Boca Raton and Aventura feature Crossville’s Shades 2.0 collection in 24x24 UPS in two colors, Mist and Vapor. Shades 2.0 was selected because of it’s clean modern look, durability in high traffic applications and it’s high DCOF. And, it is made in the USA!

Crossville is America’s leading manufacturer of porcelain tile, and offers a variety of glass and natural stone tile for interior and exterior floors, walls, and countertops. Made in the United States, our innovative tile products are sustainable and expertly designed to last a lifetime.

For increased slip resistance and enhanced traction in wet and greasy floor areas, Cross-Tread® surface pattern is an optimal surface solution. Ideal for high-traffic public areas like a restaurant’s back-of-house, a car dealership’s service bay area, or exterior walking surfaces, Cross-Tread® surface pattern also makes for an eye-catching option for transitional areas and for use as an accent tile. Available in select sizes of the Cross-Colors Mingles® collection.

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM), in association with Zyscovich Architects provided design services for the stations—located in Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach—key portals within the rail system. Envisioned not only as gateways to their respective cities, but also as iconic destinations, the terminals are filled with spaces to shop, eat and meet.

Tile contractor on the Boca Raton terminal was McDermott Tile & Marble Corp., Deerfield Beach, FL. According to Joe McMahon, owner, “The job went well overall but we had a shortened timeline due to some delays in the construction schedule. We were hired by Kaufman and Lynn, General Contractors on the job. Zyscovich Architects handled design services. There were a few minor manufacturing issues with tiles but Robert came out and settled the matter and we were able to complete the installation in a timely manner.”
