Elkfest 2019 Estes Park, Colorado
Elkfest is an annual tradition in Estes Park, CO. Once a year, the most visited mountain village in Colorado holds an event to recognize their most famous residents. There are vendors selling everything from corndogs to wildlife photoraphy. This year’s event was so popular that the honored guests decided to spend their time on the golf course, or just wandering down main street in the village. We caught up with a few herds and watched golfers play through as if they weren’t even there. At least one bull elk had a losing battle with a soccer net and eventually had to give up his harem to a larger, more dominant elk. Life in Estes Park . . . We stayed in Alek and Collin’s beautiful new home in Longwood. With all the rain in the area, there wasn’t a lot of leaf color, but we did find a few isolated spots. One of the highlights was a visit to St. Catherine’s Chapel on the Rock, just outside of Estes Park. We also enjoyed the shops. There are no chain stores or malls, just streets full of local merchants featuring many local craftsmen. We had great weather and loads of good food. I can still hear the mountain streams and smell the fresh air.
