David Silvers Sits With Tribune Staff, Speaks 2014 Elections A native Floridian who was born in Miami Beach, and raised in Boca Raton, David Silvers is currently running for the State Representative seat in District 89. Silvers lived a big chunk of his young life between East and West Boca, “My temple was in East Boca, yet I lived in West Boca,” remembers Silvers about his early days in Boca Raton. As a teenager, Silvers attended the University of Florida where he graduated with a degree in economics. Silvers then furthered his education by attending the University of Miami and received a Law Degree and an MBA in financing. “I grew up my whole life a Miami Hurricanes fan,” jokes Silvers. “In fact, my first game I went to as a kid was the 1983 National Championship Game.” Continued on pg. 3

Community In Tight Race For State Representative, David Silvers is Ready for the Challenge
Continued from pg. 1 Upon graduating the University of Miami, Silvers was offered a job in a Venture Capital firm in Miami, however Silvers decided to turn down the job to work for his family’s local cable company in Port Saint Lucie, Hometown Cable. Silvers moved up to West Palm and began working in the family business. He was very
successful; he grew a company from 10 full-time employees to 50 in just two short years. “They needed someone who they could trust,” explains Silvers. “The general manager at the time was a disaster.” Around 2007, Silvers began realizing he was losing recruits for his company and upon finding the reason; he made it his goal to champion the issue in Tallahassee. “I’ve seen first-hand how our school systems affects our abilities to attract and
retain high caliber work forces from outside the state,” explained Silvers. “I lost recruit after recruit to fill these managerial positions, with families who all had the same issues: Schools.” “The answer many would give was that they refused to come down to Florida and put their kids in our public school system,” continued Silvers. “I want to change that," Silvers added. "And I want to make sure kids have every opportunity to succeed in a global economy. That's really why I'm running is education. I have a friend who has a son in Boca Raton High, one of the best high schools in the country. … And they told him he can't bring his math book home because they don't have enough. If that's an A school, what's a B school look like?" In 2009 Silvers joined his family’s other business, movietickets.com, where he ran the International Division of the company. When he arrived, movietickets.com only distributed tickets to the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States. Silvers expanded their ticket distribution to countries like Spain, Argentina, Chile,
Bahamas, Mexico, and others. Silvers currently runs Tekno Books, a booklicensing firm that is a subsidiary of Hollywood Media, run by his mother, Laurie Silvers, and stepfather, Mitchell Rubenstein. Rubenstein and Laurie Silvers co-founded the Sci-Fi Channel in 1989 and sold it to USA Network in 1992. According to The Sun Sentinel, Silvers’ opponent, two-term incumbent Bill Hager, says he should be re-elected in part, because of the job he's done when people in his district have come to him with their problems. However, Silvers sees it differently. “I looked at the district, I looked who is currently in the seat and I noticed he wasn’t on track in leadership, he wasn’t getting many bills passed, his biggest issue is insurance, and it’s a coastal district and insurance rates aren’t going down,” explained Silvers. “This guy is not the right fit for this district.” The race for the District 89 seat is going to be a tight one. And both Hager and Silvers are ready for the challenge.

Remember to Vote Early Until Sunday Hallelujah, I voted early! On Friday, I walked into the South County Civic Center and within a matter of minutes – seven to be exact – I cast my vote to determine the next governor of this great state and the legality of medical marijuana. Early voting has begun in Palm Beach County and continues through Sunday, Nov. 2. And while it still won’t be safe to watch TV until after Election Day on Nov. 4 – considering the endless parade of expensive TV advertising dedicated to dehumanizing of demonizing an opposing candidate - just casting a ballot and getting it over with will perhaps constitute a relief for many. It certainly is a convenient way for people with jobs or kids or college classes, etc., essentially to cast absentee ballots in person, rather than interrupting their schedules to vote on Election Day. My experience at the polling station was a pleasant one. The workers were cordial and indeed professional. And I was extremely surprised that I was able to walk in, vote
and back in my car, all in a matter of minutes. Two years ago, with a presidential election on the ballot, there were long lines because the Legislature had cut early voting. Fortunately, in the final hours of the 2013 legislative session, our lawmakers passed HB 7013 restoring early voting up to 14 days and increasing the number of locations. A Republican-controlled legislature in 2011 restricted early voting to eight days in an effort to combat voter fraud. Instead, the result was long lines in large, urban counties. Studies showed the voting problems disproportionately impacted minorities and registered Democrats. The reforms allow local supervisors of elections to decide how best to handle early voting. Kudos to Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher for taking advantage of that opportunity. On Saturday, I attended a “Souls to the Polls” event in the parking lot at my church, Mt. Olive Baptist, in Delray Beach. There
was gospel music and an abundance of food – hot dogs, hamburgers and fried fish. There also was a bus waiting to take voters, after they were fed, to the polling site at the Ezell Hester Community Center in Boynton Beach. In attendance at the event was Tax Collector Anne Gannon, who worked hard, welcoming the attendees and encouraging them to vote. State Senator and incumbent candidate Maria Sachs also pressed flesh at the event. My pastor, the Rev. L. C. Johnson, said the organizers of the event were focused on social justice issues. They realize it requires education to get out and vote early and understand how important the election is, he said. Regardless of your political affiliation, by all means, please take advantage of early voting. Still, voters who need more time to study should certainly do so. Informed decisions are important. So, I encourage you to study the issues, find out about the candi-
dates, ballot questions and amendments and take the time to vote. The August primary had a less-than-lackluster turnout despite many races being decided. The people we put in office need to be held accountable by voters who are engaged and informed. That’s especially true with a referendum on the ballot that would allow the Palm Beach County School Board to continue levying a property tax of $25 per $100,000 of appraised value to pay for art, music and physical education teachers and for choice programs in elementary, middle and high school from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2019. The 14 days of early voting is a good time to recall the words of Franklin Roosevelt: “Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves — and the only way they could do this is by not voting.” C. Ron Allen can be reached at crallen@ delraybeachtribune.com or 561-665-0151.

INTEGRETY MOMENTS By Rick Boxx
Keeping Faith During Adversary Practicing one’s faith in the pragmatic, bottom-line business and professional world, where seeing is believing, is difficult enough. Faith is especially hard to come by during times of economic adversity. A recent mortgage fraud case reminded me of this truth. The borrower’s business grew rapidly by purchasing houses at below market prices and rehabbing them, making them more attractive to potential buyers. The business owners would leverage as much debt as possible, borrowing large amounts of money to acquire as many low-cost houses as the bank allowed. Eventually, however, mistakes were made. The borrower made poor decisions on some properties; reconstruction work was slowed on others, and the company bought houses much faster than it could sell them.
As a result, a number of the properties remained unsold, consuming much of the borrower’s available cash resources. Eventually the borrowers had an important decision to make: “Do we admit our problem and accept the consequences, or do we lie to the lender and use their money on other projects?” Unfortunately, fear overcame their conscience and faith, leading the company into fraud and ultimately, criminal charges. Faith, in all likelihood, was violated in two ways in this case. First, the borrower proceeded more aggressively than the unstable real estate market warranted, even with the devalued status of properties that were purchased. Most likely, the borrowers did not seriously consult God for guidance about whether to proceed when the growing risk became evident.
Second, the borrower lacked the faith to trust God with the outcome of being straight-forward with the bank about the increasing debt load. Instead, the owners of the company chose to lie and presume they could wriggle their way out of debt by spending more. (Does that scenario sound at all familiar?) They might have avoided their fraud and the criminal consequences if they had heeded the promise of Psalm 23:4, which offers the assurance that God can be trusted when it says, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.” This verse and the entire psalm were written by a shepherd faced with the daunting task of guiding his sheep through dark, threatening passages where the animals might encounter predators of various kinds.
Operating a real estate business is very different from shepherding sheep, but the principle remains the same: Followers of Jesus need to trust their Lord in times of uncertainty and even danger. Another passage, Philippians 4:6-7, offers a similar promise: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” The owners of the residential refurbishing business did not believe or act upon this assurance. If you are faced with a similar dilemma, I have a recommendation: Choose faith, not fear.

POSITIVE LIVING By Dr. Synesio Lyra, Jr.
Be a Doer More Than Just a Talker! Do you realize that there are things in life that you alone can do? Can you also understand that much that is already being done you can accomplish at a higher level of excellence? All great achievements in the world begin with a small idea in a person’s mind that is not discarded but tried, thought of more deeply, experimented, and finally brought to completion. And once that’s the case, its originator never ceases to improve it, so as to serve wider purposes and groups of people. Another major factor not to be forgotten is that all dreams and ideas that became a
meaningful reality at some point, had in view the betterment of others, rather than merely the satisfaction of one’s personal ego. They often originated as a problem seeking a solution, or an unpleasant condition that needed not remain so. Or, perhaps, something totally unheard of, fully unknown, while loaded with unique possibilities! Deeds of this nature are most often in the area of one’s personal interests, even passion – those things you begin dreaming about, and longing for the day when such thoughts could lead to meaningful action and final realization!
Author Brian Tracy comments that “You will become everything you are capable of becoming by developing your unique talents and abilities, wherever they lead.” That’s why today, what we see as major enterprises which benefit so many in varied ways, had actually started in someone’s kitchen, garage, or basement. Some great ideas were born through reading and reflection, while others came to fruition as a result of thoughtful observation of existing situations, poor conditions, and unnecessary problems. By working diligently, they came to viable, solid solutions that totally changed a picture for the better, and even
for the very best! You can do all that and more by looking beyond whatever obstacles that are already there, or shall yet appear. You can also distance yourself from those who insist that what you envision will never succeed. Yet, you may seek and align yourself with other positive minds that are not intimidated by barriers, but always find ways of overcoming them, and reaching a desirable end. Keep and nurture a thoughtful mind coupled with determined efforts, and the results shall transcend your initial expectations! For this noble goal, be a doer more than just a talker!

Murals Give Walls at Pine Grove a Facelift illustrate the link between Delray Beach and the school. The city’s natural beauty, sea life and history connect education with the children’s worldview. The Delray Beach Initiative, a group of residents who aim to enrich the lives of Delray’s youth, organized the daylong project and donated breakfast, lunch and paint and other supplies. Earlier this year, the group also helped raise money to send the school’s safety patrol squad to Washington D.C. for the first time in five years. It also sponsored several other fundraising events for youth causes in the city. The DBI members said they wanted to
reward the school for boosting the school’s ranking from a “D” grade to a “B” grade this year. The last time the school earned a “B” ranking was in 2009. Students, who saw the new artwork when the returned to school after the summer break, met the artists at a pizza party recently. One of the students asked Sean Hackner if he was one of the artists. “I replied, ‘No I am a terrible artist and just assisted,” Hackner said. The girl responded, “Don’t say you are terrible, JUST KEEP TRYING!” Peccia said he was moved by the transformation.

When local muralist Sharon Koskoff was asked to help spruce up a gathering place at Pine Grove Elementary School recently, she gladly agreed and enlisted her friends in the arts community to help. For Koskoff, it was a return to a schoolhouse where she did about 30 pieces over the last 20 years. “It makes me feel wonderful to see the finished product,” said Koskoff, who painted
five of the walls at the recent paint up day. “I didn’t want to leave any of the walls blank. Everybody loves it and can’t wait for the next project.” Koskoff, who chairs the city’s Public Art Advisory Board, and several local artists, called Art in the Alley artists, volunteered their time and paint to cover the washed out walls. Principal Joe Peccia, Jr., and Koskoff chose to decorate the walls with elements that

Reese Witherspoon did a good thing when she agreed to star in and promote “The Good Lie.” The title is taken from a term in Mark Twain’s “Huckleberry Finn.” This truth-based movie, written by Margaret Nagle and directed by Philippe Falardeau (“Monsieur Lazhar”) dramatizes the plight and flight of the “Lost Boys” from civil war-torn Sudan. We meet the “boys” (and one girl) as children. Ruthless militia invades their village, kill the adults and torch the huts. A half dozen children flee blindly. When a soldier spots one of them hiding in tall grass, the eldest,Theo (Okawr Jale), stands up and surrenders himself, saving the other children. The group encounters a mass march and learns they are heading for safer territory in Kenya. After walking almost 800 miles and losing one of the boys to illness, the remaining four make it to a refugee camp. They are issued clothes and food by Red Cross volunteers. After putting their names on a waiting list, the quartet is overjoyed to learn they have been accepted in a program to take them to the USA and gain asylum. The joy is tempered by sorrow when the boys learn their sister Abital (Kuoth Wiel) cannot go with them to Kansas City because of some arbitrary immigration regulation. Abital is sent to a foster family in Boston. The boys continue to Kansas City, where they are picked up at the airport by a somewhat scatterbrained employment agency counselor, Carrie Davis, played by Reese Witherspoon. Though Witherspoon
is top-billed in movie ads, she does not make her appearance until 35 minutes into the film, and her entrance is not grand. If anything dark-haired Carrie is the anti“Legally Blond” glamour girl. Carrie wears sloppy clothes and has an even sloppier apartment. She curses, drinks beer and has temper tantrums, but at heart she is a good soul. So is her boss, Jack (Corey Stoll). There are many comical fish-out-of water scenes when the boys encounter American technologies, customs, and attempt to be gainfully employed. Aspiring doctor Mamere (Arnold Oceng) is the natural leader of the group and literally a Chief since his older brother Theo was seized. Tall, lanky Jeremiah (Ger Duany) is a spiritual person and sensitive soul who learns some harsh lessons about America’s materialist ways. Paul (Emmanuel jai) is the more rebellious and resentful of the group, which will cause problems. All the African characters are played by real Sudanese refugees, which adds authenticity to an otherwise fictional plot. There is a strong but unobtrusive Christian message in the story. The only book the group has is a Bible, and the people who save them are professed Christians. If you in need of a feel-good, we-are-theworld kind of movie, this is one for you. The situation in all of Africa has only worsened since Sudan refugees were cut off after 9/11, but for the 3,600 “Lost Boys’ who made it to the USA, there are heartwarming messages at film’s end.

Character or Reputation: You Choose
Public Relations
If you needed to select an attorney, a new CPA, a different supplier, or perhaps a new janitorial service for your office, how would you go about evaluating possible candidates? Looking through phone books or online listings would not be very helpful, since they provide only limited information. So we might consult with friends and trusted associates, taking the “satisfied customer” approach. Or we could get a report from the Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints have been registered against persons or companies we are considering. Often in hiring new employees we employ a similar strategy: We contact references they provide to ask their opinions, or call previous employers to ask for information – to the extent the law permits. Whether looking for new services or to hire new staff, we want to know what kind of reputation they have. But is reputation always a true indicator of what we can expect? We all have heard about business and professional leaders, along with elected officials, who once had flawless reputations only to have them destroyed when secrets of moral or ethical failures were revealed. Why is this? Recently I heard someone make an important distinction. He said, “Character is who you really are. Reputation is who people think you are.” In other words, what you see externally is not always what you get. For instance, I can think of public speakers I appreciated, imagining how enjoyable it would be to have them as friends. On several occasions, however, I discovered that although those individuals were excellent in speaking publicly, privately their personalities and behavior were very different. In the workplace, this distinction between
character and reputation is important. In marketing, image is emphasized. Sometimes we refer to it as the “brand.” The goal is to convince consumers, customers and clients we are who we want them to think we are. Unfortunately, sometimes people wear masks, disguising themselves and concealing what they truly are inside. There might be valid reasons for this: shame, embarrassment, feelings of not being “good enough.” But if our “masks” are deliberate attempts to deceive, the problem is serious – and usually the truth becomes evident over time. Good character almost always results in a good reputation, but a good reputation does not always ensure good character, individually or corporately. Consider what the Bible says: Be wary of outward appearances. We tend to judge people according to perceptions – what we see and hear. What we perceive, however, can be inaccurate. In 1 Samuel 16:7 we’re told, “The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Proverbs 16:3 adds, “All a man’s ways seem right to him, but the Lord weighs the heart.” Guard your own motivations. We can be guilty ourselves of attempting to deceive, misrepresenting who we are. But if we are to be people of integrity, that includes being honest about the image we project. “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life” (Proverbs 4:23). The ideal individual has a good reputation – built on a foundation of good character. The apostle John described such a person.“Demetrius has a good testimony from all, and from the truth itself ” (3 John 12).
Q I am planning to begin divorce proceedings against my wife in the near future. While we both make a good living, we are by no means wealthy, but we have somewhat more money because of the stock market rally the last few years. I want to remain in our home, with my wife and two children during the divorce, so that the expense of having to fund two households can be delayed as long as possible, as can the ultimate impact of the divorce on my teenaged boys. While there has been no physical violence, whatsoever, during the marriage there has, lately been significant acrimony, leading to occasional loud arguments. My wife believes that I have been cheating on her, with another woman, which is not true and her belief, and paranoia have become the very reason that I have decided to go forward. When I file my case, do I have to leave the house? Can she throw me out of the House? If I leave voluntarily, is that “abandonment”? If I leave voluntarily, will it hurt my chances of getting 50% custody of my sons? A Winning cases in divorce court require you and your lawyer to know the law, prove the facts and impress the judge with your truthfulness and fairness. There is no obligation under Florida law for you to leave the marital home because you file dissolution of marriage proceeding against your wife. Your wife can have you removed from the

home only by filing a Petition for a Domestic Violence Injunction and claiming and proving that by virtue of your conduct, she has a reasonable fear of imminent harm to herself or the children from you, under the Domestic Violence, or Repeat Violence statutes. Usually injunctions are not granted without some physical contact by you against your wife, but serious threats can form a basis to remove you. Some domestic violence allegations are based upon fact, some fiction. Although less likely she can have you removed from the home under the dissolution of marriage statute, Chapter 61 of the Florida Statutes. Under that statute she would have to prove that you have caused the atmosphere in the marital home has become harmful to your children because of the arguing, accusations, and your involvement of your children in the details of your divorce. If you voluntarily leave your home, it may well adversely affect your case for rotating custody, a term used to describe the sharing of overnights with your sons on a 50%/50% basis. A judge might feel that your interest in the equal parenting is not genuine, but based on a wish to lower your support obligations, or just a bargaining tool in on other economic issues in your case.

Business “You’ve Got Maids”: Servicing Boca Raton for Over 5 Years
By Veronica Rodriguez
With a twist of a knob, the door to the blind-concealed office opens, simultaneously letting me catch a glimpse of our neighboring workplace while alerting them to my presence. I am immediately greeted by Patricia Porrata, who welcomes me in her office with a smile. She is the owner of the budding business You’ve Got Maids, a cleaning business that offers services in Boca Raton and surrounding areas. Porrata has worked in service-related fields for over five years, and her interest in helping people is what has propelled her through her life to pick careers in which she got the opportunity to work closely with her clients. For years prior to opening her own business, for example, Porrata worked as a nutritionist and personal trainer. Though her role has shifted somewhat now that she’s working in the cleaning industry, she affirms that it is this same drive to make people happy that attracted her to this business, “I love to please customers, and when you go to different homes, different houses and you help people keep their houses clean—it’s something that really makes me happy when I see the smile and the happiness of the person,” she says. Her personal interest in a healthy lifestyle
is one of the reasons she is able to accomplish this, as she affirms one important aspect to her business is that she only uses green products in people’s homes. She was in the health business before, she explains, and she knows how damaging it can be for our health to use chemicals. This makes for a business model that keeps not only her clients’ busy schedules in mind, but their long-term health, too. The reason for the success of her business so far is more likely due to her mentality and work ethic, though. It is these traits as a business owner that have enabled her to have a strong hand in picking the kind of employees she trusts, and the kind of training they get (each of her employees has to take a course in cleaning and additionally pass a test.) She also offers 100% service guarantee, which makes it her personal duty redo the house cleaning if her customer is unsatisfied. You’ve God Maids has been in business for six months and it is her baby, so it’s not surprising she puts such care into the quality of products and services she is offering her customers. Porrata is also a local resident of Boca, and having lived here for 22 years, she is happy to be an active member of the community and a budding local business.
Author of Best-Selling Series Announces Coffee Shop Tour J.D. Netto, author of the best-selling series, The Whispers of the Fallen, has announced his upcoming Coffee Shop tour that is set to begin on November 7th. “Being a local author, I think it’s important to go about the community,” explained Netto. “This is an intimate tour where I’ll be able to speak to fans, get feedback and interact with the people who have made The Whispers of the Fallen what it is today.” The tour will kick off at Cafe Bleu in Delray Beach on November 7th from 5pm-8pm. The tour will then continue on November 15th when Netto and his team will be at The Grind Cafe located at Delray Marketplace from 10am-1pm. The following week, November 22nd, Netto will be at Harold’s Coffee Lounge located in West Palm Beach. After a Thanksgiving break, the tour will have its final stop of 2014 on December 6th at Gizzi’s Coffee in Delray Beach. “The tour is for the fans,” says Netto. “We will be at these coffee shops, drinking coffee, talking about books, and even doing some readings from both The Whispers of the Fallen and Rebellion. It’s going to be a great tour, and we are extremely looking forward to it.”
Released at Book Expo of America/BookCon in New York City this year, J.D. Netto’s latest novel, Rebellion, is the second installment in the acclaimed The Whispers of the Fallen series. In Rebellion, a new enemy has risen in the search for one of the books in which Isaac and the book-bearer carry. Having no regard or honor for human life, the blood-drinkers now pursue them, longing to snatch The Book of Letters, which is said to contain the secrets to awaken a deadly army, strong enough to enslave humanity for all eternity. More dates are being worked on for 2015 and will be released at the start of the New Year. Below are the dates and locations of the current tour set to begin on November 7: • November 7, 5pm-8pm: Cafe Bleu - 44 East Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach, FL 33444 • November 15, 10am-1pm: The Grind Cafe - 14859 Lyons Road #132, Delray Beach, FL 33446 • November 22, 10am-1pm: Harold’s Coffee Lounge - 509 Northwood Road, West Palm Beach, FL 33407 • December 6, 10am-1pm: Gizzi’s Coffee 2275 South Federal Hwy, Delray Beach, FL 33483

Social Security: A Woman’s Perspective Whether you’re a man or a woman, Social Security will not – and was never designed to – provide all of the income you’ll need to live comfortably during retirement. You should learn all you can about how to enhance your Social Security benefits, and how much income you may need from other sources, to be financially comfortable during retirement. There are some unique factors to consider for women. With longer life expectancies, women tend to live more years in retirement and have a greater chance of exhausting other sources of income. The following 2012 numbers1 released by the Social Security Administration Office of Research and Statistics highlight how demographic characteristics of women compare with the entire population. • Women reaching age 65 need to prepare for approximately 21.4 more years of living expenses. Men live an average of 19.1 more years. • Women make up 56% of all Social Security beneficiaries age 62 and older and approximately 67% of beneficiaries age 85 and older. • The average annual Social Security income received by women 65 years and

older was $12,520 compared to $16,398 for men. • Of all elderly unmarried women receiving Social Security benefits, 49.6% relied on Social Security for 90% or more of their income. • Of the women who were employed fulltime, 55% participated in an employer-sponsored public and private sector plan compared to 52.3% of men. While participation in employer-sponsored retirement plans is increasing for women in today, they generally receive lower pension benefits than men due to relatively lower earnings. Women also are more likely to work at small companies that lack employer-sponsored benefit programs and hold part-time rather than full-time positions. You can see how these factors might affect women’s Social Security benefits and any retirement plan or pension plan benefits they may have accrued. So how do women offset this gap? Determine a retirement strategy that is appropriate for your personal financial situation and talk with your Financial Advisor. 1 Social Security Administration Office of Research and Statistics: Social Security Is Important to Women, http://www.ssa.gov/ pressoffice/factsheets/women.htm

Freezer Test Proves Purity Omax3® was shown in lab tests to be 91% pure, free of bad fats and toxins. You can prove this by freezing your own fish oil. Put a pill of your store bought brand of omega3 in the freezer overnight. Then put Omax3® Ultra PureTM in the freezer overnight. The difference is clear. The store bought brand will be cloudy, even a solid white. This is caused by the bad fats and toxins solidifying, which your body doesn’t need. Omax3® will remain clear, which equals safety and effectiveness. Fewer Pills Better Results The patented delivery system gives you 1.5g per serving in just two easy to swallow liquid gel capsules, compared to the 6-12 you would need to take of a store bought formula. This means fewer pills equals greater results, you can feel. Pharmaceutical Strength You now get the extreme health benefits you deserve and at the lowest possible price and without the fish burps! sports FAU Falls to No. 23 Marshall 35-16
Florida Atlantic University (3-5, 2-2) threatened No. 23 Marshall University (8-0, 4-0) deep into the third, but fell 35-16, Saturday afternoon in Huntington.
The Owls took an early lead that they would hold onto until late in the third quarter. The Herd took its second lead of the game and the game going up 21-16 with 3:09 remaining in the third. The Owls drove the field but were denied the end zone after advancing to the four to open the final quarter. The defensive stop woke up Marshall, which drove the field and added to the lead with a 66-yard rushing TD to go up 28-16 and never looked back. FAU started the game with a 12-play, 56yard drive that ended with a 30-yard field goal by Greg Joseph. Marshall responded
with a one-play, 58-yard drive and took a 7-3 lead with 8:34 remaining in the first. The Owls forced a field goal attempt on the Herd’s next drive and then put together a 14-play drive that ended with a Jaquez Johnson touchdown pass to Alex Deleon retake the lead at 10-3 with 11:36 remaining in the first half. On that score, FAU became the first team to lead Marshall multiple times in a game this season. With 6:35 remaining in the half, Joseph connected with his second field goal of the game, a 40-yarder, and the Owls built a 13-7 lead. The advantage was short lived, however, as Marshall’s Devon Johnson scored on a 62-yard run to give the Herd its second lead at 14-13 with 6:07 remaining in the half. FAU’s Joseph was called upon for a third time in the half and remained perfect, hitting a 24-yarder to put the Owls back up 16-14 with 2:06 remaining in the half, a lead that would remain through halftime. The two teams traded punts in the third quarter when the Herd scored on a pass to extend quarterback Rakeem Cato’s NCAA record streak of games with a touchdown pass to 40 games. he 21-yard connection gave the the Herd

a 21-16 lead with 3:09 to play in the third. The Owls received the kick and marched 72 yards to Marshall’s four-yard line. FAU then faced a fourth and three at the Marshall six-yard line. The Owls then used the change of quarters and elected to go for it. Johnson’s pass to Nate Terry in the corner of the end zone was denied and Marshall took over. Marshall’s Johnson then raced 66 yards for his third score of the game to put Marshall up 28-16 with 13:56 to play. After holding the Owls on another fourthdown attempt, the Herd marched 62 yards in 10 plays, ending with Devon Johnson’s fourth touchdown to end the scoring at 35-16.D’Joun Smith broke FAU school records with 202 yards on six kick returns, breaking Anthony Jackson’s 168 yards against Marist in 2001 and the team record of 182 yards against Memphis in 2007. Lucky Whitehead earned 102 yards receiving on 11 catches, the second-most receptions in a game in FAU history. Greg Howell continued the impressive start to his career with 95 yards on the ground.

H igh S chool S ports Pope John Paul II Keeps Archbishop Curley Winless With 45-6 Win
By Jihad Shatara
It has been a rough season for the Eagles out in Boca Raton, but they have continued to show fight in every game this season. Pope John Paul came away with an outstanding victory Thursday night against Miami’s Archbishop Curley. The Eagles opened up the scoring with an 80 yard touchdown pass from Ryan Rizk to Bryce Segui. Curley would answer though, scoring on a 50 yard touchdown run. From that point on, it would be all Pope John Paul. Rizk and Segui would connect 3 more times that night. Rizk would finish with 5 passing touchdowns on Thursday night.
The box score would be very telling. The Eagles had twice as many first downs, held Curley to zero passing yards, and outgained Curley in total yards 519 to 170. Curley ran the ball effectively averaging about 4.1 yards a carry, but it would not be enough for the air attack by Quarterback Ryan Rizk and the Eagles offense. Pope John Paul improved to 2-7 on the season while Archbishop Curley remained without a win. The Eagles will face the Scots of St. Andrew’s in their season finale this Thursday night.
Pope John Paul Beats St. Andrew’s For District Title By Jihad Shatara
Pope John Paul II defeated St. Andrew’s 25-21, 25-20, 25-14 to take the district Girl’s volleyball title. The first ranked Eagles beat the second ranked Scots Friday night, lead by Seniors Meaghan Donahue, Amanda Gius, and Jessica Colasacco. Meaghan Donahue led the team with 10 digs, 9 kills, and 7 service points. Amanda Gius also contributed with 24 assists while Freshman Paula Cerame had 10 kills and 4 aces.
Game of the Week: Park Vista Edges Boca Raton In District Matchup
By Jihad Shatara
After a 0-3 start, Park Vista has had an incredible run of five straight wins, improving to 5-3 overall and 4-0 in the district. The Cobras, led by Corey Cola on offense, are arguably the hottest team in District 10-8A. Boca, who needed a win to stay in playoff contention, intercepted a pass thrown by Park Vista Quarterback Brandon Sharpe deep in Cobra territory. The Bobcats would eventually score a touchdown on a fouryard Marlon Fleming touchdown run. On the next Cobra possession, Park Vista would answer with a 27 yard field goal by kicker Chris Hamblet. The score stayed at 6-3 until the freshman sensation Corey Cola would have a 25 yard touchdown run, the first of his 3 for the night. Cola had another impressive night with 25 carries for 117 yards. The game got a little heated in the 3rd quarter when three Park Vista players were ejected. Penalties would kill the Bobcats all night. A block in the back prevented an 85 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Another 15 yard roughing the passer would negate a Boca interception in Cobra territory. Despite having over 100 yards of penalties
before the 4th quarter, Boca would reduce the Park Vista lead to just a touchdown when Quarterback Phillip Santiago hit Wide receiver Michael Blanc on an eight-yard touchdown. Park Vista would eventually block all momentum on just three crucial plays in the 4th quarter. Phillip Santiago would throw an interception deep into Cobra territory which lead to a missed field goal by Chris Hamblet. Boca was still in it, but then Nick Casidei would block a punt. Park Vista then ended all Boca playoff hopes with a one-yard touchdown run. The final score would be 27-13. Park Vista has now clinched a playoff spot and can win the district title outright next Thursday against Palm Beach Central. This will be Park Vista’s 4th straight year in the playoffs. Meanwhile, for Boca Raton, they are eliminated from the playoffs.
