Boca Raton Ranked One of Best Towns By Pedro Heizer
Over the years, Boca Raton has had its share of national spotlight. From the Presidential Debate in 2012, to the Boca Raton Bowl last year, all eyes have been in Boca Raton. It’s no surprise then that Boca Raton continues to live up to its motto of “place to live, work, and play”. Last week, the website niche.com came out with its list of best places to live in Florida, and Boca Raton ranked second behind Sarasota. Nationally, Boca was ranked as the 72nd best town to live in the Unites States. In Florida, Boca was ranked ahead of cities like Vero Beach, Melbourne, Fort Myers, and Daytona Beach. South Florida supermarkets and restaurants are being battered by the soaring cost of eggs. The hike in prices from the worst bird flu outbreak in history has decimated egg producing flocks across the Midwest. South Florida distributors like Cisco and Cheney Bros. report hikes of 85% of more for large shell eggs sold in supermarkets. Also affected are baking products used in liquid egg mix. There are 9,122 restaurants in South Florida.
Palm Beach County property tax revenue soared to the highest level since of the recession of 2008. The county posted value of $151 billion up a solid 9% compare to last year and number increased a healthy 23% in the past decade. The property tax values also rose for each of the 38 municipalities in the county which means added revenue for infrastructure and essential services. The county doesn’t plan to increase taxes.

Community Boca Raton Ranked One of Best Towns to Live in Florida Continue from page 1
According to niche.com, the Best Towns ranking provides a comprehensive assessment of the overall livability and quality of life of an area at the town level. This grade takes into account key factors of a location, including school ratings, crime rates, housing, employment, community, and things to do, in an attempt to measure the overall quality of an area. The rankings exclude suburbs and cities with over 100,000 residents. On niche.com,
Boca is considered a “Small City” with its population of 86,671. In niche.com’s grades, the one which is weighted the most is the “Things To Do”, which is 20% of the final score. Boca Raton had a grade of A+. Boca also received a grade of A+ in “Easiest Commute”, “Health and Fitness”, “Outdoor Activities”, and “Weather”. It’s not secret Boca Raton has great schools, and niche.com made it known by giving the city a B+ in education. According to
the site, the grade incorporates the average Niche.com K-12 overall grade for every public school serving the area, where each school is weighted by the number of students it serves. “The weather is this area is great most of the time,” reads one of the reviews on the website. “I live in South Florida, and it’s usually known for its great weather throughout the year. The beaches are beautiful and not too far of a drive.”
Pirate Role-Play Adventure Gives Kids a Swashbuckling Good Time
By Aaron Tefel
Has your child ever dreamt of living life on the high-seas as a pirate? Well look no further. The Avenger is here to save the day. The Avenger, a 43 foot long and 9 feet wide Pirate Ship on wheels serves as the perfect event for kids’ parties and other events. Built in Boca Raton, The Avenger was designed with making sure that children can have a one-of-a-kind experience. Designed for 3-11 year olds, this ship has a variety of built-in play-stations aboard that allows kids to role-play as pirates and crew members
on a truly interactive vessel, where their imagination is the only limit. Finished back in February of 2012, The Avenger was built by Adrian St. Cyr, C.E.O. of Imagineering Unlimited. LLC. With five decks, three cabins, eight sails, and two axles; The Avenger was created to replicate the authenticity of a real-life pirate ship. In fact, this ship was built to be a replica of a 1715 three-massed frigate. St. Cyr, who also plays the role of Captain Tiny on the ship, talked about why he thinks a venue like this is so crucial for kids
in today’s world to indulge in their more creative side. “One of the things that I see every day is kids are on their tablets and phones and so forth,” St. Cyr said. “When I was a kid we did everything. Now the kids can be really tentative and I wanted to bring that robustness back to kids. I tell them when they get on you can scream as loud as you want. There are very few rules. I want the kids to be robust and just be themselves. I want them to use their imagination and really get into role-playing.” St. Cyr also reflected on The Avenger’s first opening night that was held a couple of years ago, where he talked about the impact this venue had on one particular child and her mother. “We opened on the first Promenade Event in Downtown Boca Raton,” St. Cyr said. “One hour into the evening a mother with wild tears in her eyes came rushing up to me. ‘My daughter!,’ she cried and pointed up on deck. I whipped around to see a tiny five-year-old girl shouting orders to the others. ‘Avast thar you swab!’ ‘Belay that!’ ‘Throw that man in irons and clap him in the brig!’ I then looked to the mother who was now smiling through her tears. ‘That is what she is supposed to do,’ I replied. ‘You don’t understand,’ the mother said. ‘My Sophie does not utter more than two words from one week to the next.’ That is when it really dawned on me how precious this ship
can be for children.” Catherine Johnson, who runs the website for The Avenger and plays the role of First Mate Jessie Zaks when on the ship, spoke about how special this ship can be for children and how it really is meaningful. “The possibility of a child’s imagination is unlimited on this ship,” Johnson said. “To give the kids something so special really is a precious gift. To the parents out there, don’t be surprised if your child comes out with a twinkle in their eye.” The Avenger can be used for children’s parties, festivals, private parties, and fundraisers. If you would like to utilize the ship, feel free to call Adrian St. Cyr at (561)-289-0600 or use the ship’s website, TheAvenger.org.

Do Your Part to Help Make Your Community Better Just two days ago, we observed Memorial Day. And as I have opined in this column over the years, I cringe when I see people holding picnics in the park or huge backyard barbecues and even making special trips to the shopping mall on this day. While it is the unofficial kick-off to the summer, this is not the day to head to the ball field. Instead, the day is set aside to honor those servicemen and women who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can eat, play and shop. I also noticed that fewer people wished me a Happy Memorial Day than previous years. Instead, many said either, “Thanks for your service” or something to show they understood the true meaning of the day. By the way, did you remember to pause at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day for a minute of silent honor to remember those who have died in service to our nation? In 2000, Congress established The National Moment of Remembrance Act, as an added way of honoring those who died in service
to the United States. Americans were asked to stop for one minute at 3 p.m. because it’s likely when Americans are most enjoying the freedom made possible by those who died in service of their country. If you were among those who forgot, please try to do so next year. Until then, have you considered doing your part to help make your community better? Just like those Sailors, soldiers, airmen and marines were making a contribution when their lives were cut short you can make a contribution – no matter how small. You can volunteer at one of the many local nonprofit organizations or schools. There are countless youth waiting for a mentor or someone to read a book to them. If your schedule is as hectic as mine, it may be more convenient for you to write a check to help defray the monthly expenses. Whatever you can do, just do your part. One group of local residents is doing their part to help bring medical care to the needy in their homeland of Haiti.
Under the leadership of President Nicole A. Quince, Hope Center of Medicine held its third annual cultural affair recently to celebrate the Haitian culture and raise money to build a medical center in Cabaret, a community of about 100,000 residents. The need became greater after the earthquake destroyed the island in 2010, Quince said. I attended the gala event at the South County Civic Center and I had a remarkable time. The event featured guided presentation of authentic Haitian food, Haitian paintings and artifacts, dancing and live music from several artists and talents from Haiti and the United States. The audience also was educated on the historical contributions that several Haitians made world-wide. For example, I learned about Dr. Rose-Marie Toussaint, the first Haitian American female surgeon to perform a heart transplant. She is one of a few female surgeons who specializes in liver and kidney transplants. I also learned that the president and chief operating officer
of Nintendo of America, Reginald FilsAime is Haitian American. He was the first chosen by Nintendo management to lead the company. Perhaps one of the highlight for me was meeting Elcy Moreau Andre, the first Haitian teacher hired by the School District of Palm Beach County in 1985 for non-English-speaking students at Lake Worth High. President Quince and her team have set a goal of raising $1 million by Dec. 31 to build the medical center. They want to make it so easy that no one can refuse to give – not even a child. She is optimistic that if each person, after making his or her donation, will share the message through social media, they will reach the mark. “I don’t think anybody cannot participate because they can’t afford $1,” she said. “We don’t want to restrain you from giving more if you can.” Their grassroots campaign includes local churches and Facebook.
POSITIVE LIVING By Dr. Synesio Lyra, Jr.
Let Joy Characterize Your Days! One of the greatest curses affecting contemporary society is boredom. In spite of new technologies intended to simplify life, and gadgets which can literally bring the entire world to anyone by a touch from the fingertips, and so much more, several people still complain about being bored. Even youth, stemming from the financial upper crust of society, often go into shoplifting and committing more serious crimes, “just for the thrill of it” as several of them have personally testified. Sadly, there are also mature citizens who do not know what to do meaningfully with
their free moments. They may fulfil their weekly “obligations” for earning a living, going to church, and socializing with family, friends, and neighbors. Yet, there is exactly where their excitement also ends, even if they could also enjoy good literature, besides engaging in a few other random, meaningful activities. After all, people are so wired that each new day can be lived with a sense of excitement and the experience of true joy. Whether residing singly or in families, each citizen of earth may ascertain in advance the preferred ways of planning each day
with sufficient time for personal growth and for meaningful service directed toward others. It is only when one thinks of somebody else more than one’s self that varied new opportunities often emerge to impact one’s neighbour positively, even through relatively simple acts of good will and kindness. If you truly desire to make each new day meaningfully busy and exciting, start thinking of others and of what you can do for them. It may be sending a letter or a note to cheer someone up, offering to take an elderly person to an appointment, making
some phone calls to shut-ins, or those in convalescence, being an ever-present friend to many. Humans are daily surrounded with manifold opportunities to make a positive difference in the lives of countless persons. Ultimately, there is no greater joy than to contribute to mending lives, and providing healing to specific individuals who need it! When this attitude prevails in your heart, I can guarantee that much joy shall characterize your days!
Dr. Synesio Lyra, Jr. is a Florida resident who, for many years, was a professor at the post-graduate level. He is a writer, a sought-after conference speaker, a man who lived in five continents of the world, having received his education in four of them. When he resided in southern California, he wrote a weekly column for the daily “Anaheim Bulletin,” which was carried for about six years, until he moved to south Florida.

Boca Raton Honors Fallen Heroes During Memorial Day By Sam Smith
Honor prevailed this Memorial day at the Boca Raton Municipal Cemetery and Mausoleum as members of our community, including veterans and city officials, took to the podium to share with us, stories of American sacrifice. They reminded us of what it means to be an American and commemorated the fallen hero’s of our armed services. “The ceremony was beautiful,” Said Patricial Salinas of Boca Raton “It’s so important that we remember those who have died

protecting our freedoms.” The Boca Raton Community High School NJROTC conducted a flag-folding ceremony and the ceremony concluded with the drums and pipes of the Fort Lauderdale Highlanders bagpipe band echoing through the Palmetto Park neighborhood. Later in the evening at the Mizner Park Amphitheater was a free concert. With the lawn filled, The New Gardens Band, under the direction of Owen Seward, played patriotic musical melodies throughout the evening.
Olympic Heights High To Launch JROTC Program By CRA News Service
Some students at Olympic Heights High School will be suiting up and taking on the title of cadet as the Palm Beach County School District launches a Marine Corps Junior ROTC program at the start of the 2015-16 school year. The character and leadership development program, established in partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps, is the result of a two-year process by the Department of Choice and Career Options to bring the program – the first of its kind – to the district. “We are very excited about this program,” said Tara L. Kobel, a specialist in the Choice department who works closely with the JROTC programs. “It is a phenomenal leadership program and it builds such camaraderie, leadership and self-discipline amongst the students.” The four-year curriculum will cover career exploration, citizenship in American history and government, leadership, military history, personal growth and responsibility and public service. While some students may go on to pursue a military career, the program is not a recruiting ground for the military, and students are not pressured to join the Armed Services, officials said. “There is no push to enter the military, nor is it a requirement,” Kobel said. “This is strictly a leadership program to help students in life and their career pathway after their graduation.” The Armed Forces however, often offer incentives, such as accelerated promotion, to those with high school JROTC experience. “The goal of JROTC programs is to build better citizens and to make students leaders

in their community,” Peter Licata, director of Choice and Career Options, said in a news release. “It is another opportunity for our students to gain valuable leadership experience and career opportunities.” During the recent annual Enlistee Recognition ceremony, at least155 high school seniors chose to enter the military after high school, Kobel said. The federal government would pay about $250,000 for uniforms and other start-up costs, ongoing costs for supplies and equipment, The district will cover the salaries for the two instructors, typically a retired Marine officer and a retired noncommissioned officer. Salaries will be determined by their rank and years of service. “Since this unit is approved as [a National Defense Cadets Corps unit], the District is responsible for the full salaries of the Instructors until it becomes a fully funded JROTC program,” Kobel said. All programs must start as an NDCC until a funding window opens for cost share salaries, she said. Olympic Heights Principal Dave Clark said it is an honor for his school to offer the district’s newest JROTC program. “Being a part of JROTC is like being a part of a big family,” Clark said in the release. “There are all different sorts of people, but they get along well because they are all part of the same team.” Students living within the boundary can submit an application to Anita Foster at anita.foster@palmbeachschools.org. Applications can be found on the District’s Edline or they can pick one up in the District’s headquarters. For more information, email Foster.

New Promotion at Sloan’s Allows Dogs to Join in on the Fun
By Aaron Tefel
Sloan’s Ice Cream is kicking-off the summer with a new promotion that allows your furry-friend to tag-along. The aptly named promo, “Dog Days of Summer”, allows customers to bring their dogs with them to various participating Sloan’s locations in South Florida from now until June 30th. “Dog Days of Summer” runs every Tuesday from 2-5 p.m. Included in the promotion is a free milk
bone treat for your pet when you go together. Additionally, you can get a free pint of ice cream of your choosing with any $25 purchase. David Wild, the Director of Franchising at Sloan’s, talked about how the idea came about to do a dog-centric promotion and also touched on its significance. “The owner of Sloan’s, Sloan Kamenstein, is a huge dog-person and an avid dog fan,” Wild said. “We here at Sloan’s always look at ways that we can incorporate pets into promotions. We are always excited about opportunities to get people engaged and get the community engaged because it’s more than just a person comes in and gets a standard coupon. It has a little bit more interaction than that.” Ilaria Tagariello, Director of Operations at Sloan’s, also touched upon why a promotion like “Dog Days of Summer” is both important for the franchise and for customers. “I think it’s really important for us at Sloan’s to have a promotion like this,” Tagariello said. “Doing something like this allows our product to reach out to more customers, while also serving as a thank you for their business.”

Boca High’s ‘Triple Threat’ Athletes Excel on Field, In Band, Academically By Palm Beach County School Public Affairs
When Nigel and Elgin Davis first picked up musical instruments in the sixth grade, Nigel could barely make a sound on an old saxophone, and the slide came off his twin brother Elgin’s trombone. Within six months of them working and practicing hard, their music teacher at Emerald Cove Middle School suggested that their father, Eric Davis, find private lessons to further challenge them. The skill of their playing had already exceeded the rest of the music class, Matt Jensen told the elder Davis. “They are both just internally driven,” said Eric Davis, Boca Raton High School head football coach and spokesman for the Palm Beach Sheriff ’s Office. “They are competitive with each other in the classroom, on the football field and even in music.” It is that kind of combination of talent and hard work that earned the Davis brothers the nicknames “Triple Threat” at Boca Raton High School. The 18-year-old seniors play in the jazz band, both earned all-conference honors on the football team and excel in the classroom where they are members of the National Honor Society. They also were among 1,600 high school seniors who were named semifinalists in the 51st annual National Achievement Scholarship Program. Elgin, who plays defensive back, signed a football scholarship to Harvard University over Georgia Tech and Nigel, a wide receiver, will be heading to the University of Florida in Gainesville. They both will study mechanical engineering. “I feel like I’m definitely leading by example and showing that if you play football you can also have good grades and you can go to a good school and you don’t have to let your grades slack just because you are an athlete,” he told WPBF Ch. 25. They turned down offers from other pres-
tigious schools across the country such as Dartmouth and Vanderbilt. Along with football, where their dad coached them directly through much of their careers, the Davis brothers have also been shining stars in music. Elgin blossomed from having his trombone slide fall off his first time to now being an outstanding soloist on trumpet in the school’s jazz band. Last month, he added the Lakeside Jazz Festival in Port Orange to his credit. Both brothers have also participated in the school district’s annual music camp at Bak Middle School of the Arts where the top musicians in the district learn from instructors from the prestigious Julliard School, one of the nation’s leading music schools. Eric Davis, who has 30 years of football coaching and playing experience but no musical background, said he had no idea what talent his boys actually had in jazz when they started. Within months of Nigel starting to play he was on stage at the B.B. King’s club in West Palm Beach jamming with a professional band. He had music teachers from the University of Miami praising his potential and raw talent. Ever since then Nigel has been playing paying gigs as a musician to earn his own money on the side to pay for things like extra back to school clothes, something he plans to continue at college. “For me it has just been about enjoying the journey,” Davis said, as he looked back at his sons who have gone from amazing students in Palm Beach County public schools to amazing men ready to conquer the world separately and together. “Watching them go from this little person who can barely crawl at the beginning to somebody who can do things that just stun you, there is just no feeling like it.” This report was supplemented with information from WPBF CH-25 and WPEC CH-12.

What Has Become of Customer Service? Do you remember when “customer service” was a hallmark of good business? Retailers like J.C. Penney and Sam Walton understood their customers were their greatest asset and set about determining how to serve their needs. Somehow that philosophy seems to have gotten lost in the 21st century. There was a time when sales people could be annoying, hovering over potential buyers, but these days it is almost requires a search party to find a sales associate when needed. Even to make a purchase, often you must trudge across the store to find someone at a cash register to take your payment. Several weeks ago I bought a costly light bulb to replace one that had burned out above our stove. Last week that replacement bulb burned out. So I went to the name brand hardware store and exchanged it for another. When I got home, however, I opened the sealed package only to find the new bulb cracked in three places. So I returned to nationally known hardware store again and bought another bulb that had no cracks. But this one did not work either. Judging from the noise it made when jiggled, something inside was broken. It took me three trips to obtain a functioning replacement bulb. Then the national newspaper I subscribe to – delivered every morning with the local daily paper – failed to arrive. I called the circulation department, received the obligatory “I apologize” and “I’m sorry,” and was assured the periodical would be delivered by 3 p.m. It never arrived!
We often read about the retail industry’s woes, citing declining sales and often blaming purchases made online rather than in stores. Is that any surprise, when retail institutions have reduced customer service to virtually nothing and we can receive as much personalized attention on the Internet? Penney and Walton built their businesses on genuine interest and concern for their customers, making certain they felt valued and needed. They were men of faith, motivated by biblical passages like “do to others what you would have them do to you” (Matthew 7:12), and “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others” (Philippians 2:3-4). Modern-day business, casting aside the foundation of a biblical worldview, chooses a short-term, profit-centered approach. Customers often feel treated like cattle rather than keys for survival in a cut-throat, highly competitive marketplace. God actually set the best example. He took a “customer service” attitude when He sought to reconcile rebellious humankind to Himself. Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” And Jesus declared in Mark 10:45, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” If that is not the ultimate in customer service, what is?

Considering Settlement Q My husband and I have been in divorce litigation for almost a year. We have a mediation coming up next week, and my attorney has been discussing my options with me. He has told me on several occasions that in mediation we can reach a settlement that is far different on many of the issues that separate us than a judge could do if we go to trial. I have never quite understood the concept. I thought that divorce law was pretty well defined under Florida law, and when we negotiate a settlement agreement, it has to be proper under the Florida law. The issues we are going to try to settle include residential parenting, alimony, child support, and distribution, including the valuation of my husband’s business, and some real estate. Please explain to me how we can settle the case, as my lawyer says, in ways that a judge cannot do. A There are many advantages which you and your husband can gain by settling your case, at mediation, without a trial. The first two are obvious, it will save you a lot of money in attorney’s fees, and the case will be over, ending a very stressful time for you and your family. The more subtle advantage that you talk about is the ability to come to decisions in a settlement contract that a judge cannot give you after a trial. You and your husband will be negotiating a contract, just like two executives. As long as the contract does not have an illegal purpose, and is entered into freely and voluntarily, with full knowledge it is enforceable. Specifically, regarding the issues you mention:

(1) In reaching an agreement on residential parenting and child support you and your husband can agree that he can have the children for 40% or more of the overnights, but also agree that such a plan will not reduce your child support. If you tried the case before a judge, a one-night difference per year, in over night visitation, changing your husband’s nights with the children from 39% to 40% would cost you several thousands of dollars a year in child support. (2) You and your husband can agree on any alimony package, or none, that the two of you think is fair, without being bound by the Florida statute on alimony. You can make the permanent alimony non-modifiable, which the judge could not do after a trial. You can agree to bridge the gap alimony, for a period longer than the judge is allowed to grant under the applicable statute and case law. (3) If you and your husband have hired valuation experts to value your husband’s business, and appraisers to appraise real estate or personal property the valuation experts may agree or disagree as to value. If you go to trial, the judge has limited options. He or she may accept the values of one expert, the other expert, or neither expert and ask you to come back with better evidence. The judge cannot average the opinions of the valuation experts. In mediation, you and your husband can agree to average the expert’s opinions of value in order to settle your case. Many other options you have in mediation do not exist in court. You should go to mediation prepared on all of the issues, with an open mind.

Israeli Missile Raises Motorists’ Eyebrows Along US1
Photo by: Michael Razler All drones aside, publicity stunts are supposed to generate publicity not serious questions about national security. Yet Tom Madden’s transporting a ninefoot Israeli missile so conspicuously in an open convertible Thursday raised lots of eyebrows, but no alarms or reports to authorities. “When a police car pulled alongside, I’m thinking this is it. I’ll have to explain this is not a loaded missile, but a historic souvenir from the Six-Day War and we’re doing this for charity. After eyeballing my missile, however, astonishingly he pulls away and turns east. “Then I thought I’d see what happens if I pulled up to a McDonalds drive-in with the missile beside me, but when the girl flings the window open and sees the missile, all she asks is what size Coke I want.” Madden, founder of Boca Raton-based TransMedia Group (www.transmediagroup.
com) is a PR guy who’ll go to any lengths to get attention for his clients. “I’m glad I pulled this stunt for charity, not so much for the relatively light publicity it generated, but how vividly it shows we’re so blase about reporting suspicious things.” During the mile uneventful 25-mile trip from Dania Beach to here, the missile raised thousands of eyebrows of passing motorists, but not a single report to authorities despite the President of the United States being only 23 miles away in Miami to where Madden’s missile was pointed as he drove north along US1. Madden believes he might have “crossed the line” with the President so close by, but he’s glad this experience might have brought to light how reluctant Americans are to report people and things extremely and maybe dangerously out of the ordinary. The missile is a valuable collectible from the Six-Day War returned to Israel by Jordan’s King Husseinthat Madden was transporting to his Boca office to be stored until the firm decides what charity will benefit from auctioning it off. Known as “The Spin Man,” the title of his memoir, the not so shy and retiring Madden said he was sorry if the disarmed, harmless missile scared anyone. “But I’m glad this is Boca and not Baltimore or Cleveland, or I might not have made it back in one piece packing a missile.”

Would That “Tomorrowland” Could Be Real
Would that saving the world were as simple as it is portrayed as being in Disney’s sci-fi fantasy “Tomorrowland.” Tomorrowland was Walt Disney’s featured display in the 1964-1965 World’s Fair in Flushing Meadows, Queens. I know because I was actually there with my family. The gist of Tomorrowland was that through science, technology and intensive research, anything is possible. Any problem is conquerable. The world is a bit more complicated in 2015 than it was 50 years ago. World population has more than doubled. Wars have decimated the Mideast and Far East. Seas and carbon dioxide levels have risen and average world temperature rises as ice caps melt. Pollution has spread to parts of the ocean previously pristine. You get the point. George Clooney stars as George Walker, once the whiz kid son of a Cape Canaveral rocket scientist circa 1964; now a grumpy, disillusioned, paranoid hermit holed up in a creepy, crumbling high security safe house near Orlando. Clooney is top-billed, but the real stars are two girls: Casey Newton (Britt Robertson) and Athena (Raffey Cassidy). Robertson is a 25-year-old child star veteran who looks much younger (she plays a teenager here). Raffey Cassidy is a 13-year-old actress from Manchester, U.K. The story, by directors Brad Bird (“Ratatouille”, “Up”) and Damon Lindelof (“Prometheus”), begins with a voiceover by George Walker saying how different it was when he was a kid and visited Tomorrowland at the World’s Fair, and now in 2015, when the world is “scary.”
George had created a “jet pack” from an Electrolux vacuum cleaner as a child. The jet pack did not work well, but it caught the attention of mysterious Athena, who showed him a glimpse of the technological dream world tomorrow could be. Casey is the brainiac daughter of a Cape Canaveral space station worker (played by Country star Tim McGraw) who stands to lose his job when the launch pad is demolished. Casey is so clever she infiltrates the launch pad and temporarily thwarts its destruction, only to be busted and hauled to jail. There she receives a mysterious token with a “T” on it. When she touches it, she is transported to Tomorrowland. But not so fast. The token is only good for a limited time, and there is trouble in Tomorrowland. With the help of ingenious Athena Casey must enlist the help of unwilling George and somehow rekindle his optimism so together they can renew the dream of Tomorrowland. There is a lot more to it than that; too much in fact. The special effects are dazzling, but the exposition drags the tale to a two-hourplus length. At the end you are left with the optimist versus pessimist argument. The whole of “The Magic Kingdom” is based on the former. The world as it appears to be is the latter. It is an attractive notion that if we just remain positive, somehow everything will work out. Alas there is a nagging suspicion maybe not. Still, this is undeniably uplifting, even thrilling entertainment. Rating:

Former Boca Raton Tribune Intern Wins High School Journalism Award
The Boca Raton Tribune internship program has been one of the highlights of many high school and college students looking to get their foot in the door of the journalism world. The Tribune’s internship program has around 10 interns per semester that learn every aspect of the newspaper business, from website, to print. From the moment they step in the door, these interns realize that they are not in their average internship where they fetch coffee or wash the company car. On their first day on the job they begin
pitching story ideas to the newsroom, and by their second week they are writing their stories they pitched. Not only that, but the interns get thrown in the biggest community stories in Boca Raton, and grow into finding their own voice. The Boca Raton Tribune encourages young journalists to find what they are passionate about and help groom them into the amazing journalists that will be part of the workforce someday. One former intern, Megan Shea, from Boca Raton Community High School, took her love for entertainment news and ran with it. So much so, that this year, the recent-graduate was awarded First Place in Entertainment Writing at the Palm Beach Post’s annual High School Journalism Awards, which are held every year to honor the county’s best high school newspapers and journalists. “I’m incredibly honored to be recognized by such an established and respected publication,” says Shea. “I’m very fortunate to have the platform and freedom the Tribune has provided me in writing entertainment pieces.” While Shea continues to be a contributor to The Boca Raton Tribune in her column, “Wait, What?”, she will now move to Gainsville to attend The University of Florida and pursue a degree in Journalism.

Fernbrook Florida To Develop Sabbia Beach, Luxury Oceanfront Condominiums
Fernbrook Florida, LLLP announces Sabbia Beach, the first new ultra-luxury oceanfront condominium development to be built in Pompano Beach in nearly a decade. The project is already 25 percent reserved before its official launch. “Buyers looking for new construction directly on the sand will find one of the very few places left to experience this lifestyle in South Florida,” said Danny Salvatore, a partner in Fernbrook Florida, an affiliate of Fernbrook Homes in Canada. “Future residents of Sabbia Beach will have the Atlantic Ocean as their backyard.” Sabbia Beach, designed by world-renowned Arquitectonica, will be built on one of the last remaining parcels of land located on a 3-mile stretch of pristine shoreline at 730 North Ocean Blvd. These 72 intimate residences include two-, three- and fourbedroom residences, two penthouse suites and four lanai residences. They will have floor-to-ceiling, sliding-glass doors leading to generous balconies offering ocean, city and Intracoastal views. Pre-construction prices will start in the low $900,000s. The 19-story project will be nestled less

than a mile north of the well-known Pompano Beach pier, putting residents close to outdoor shops, live entertainment and fine dining. Within the development, tropical lush landscaping will lend itself to resort-style amenities designed by Interiors by Steven G. that include a state-of-the art fitness center, treatment massage rooms, tasting room, designated yoga area, 24-hour security and valet. “Sabbia Beach embraces the sophisticated, yet beach-chic lifestyle buyers are seeking,” said Lisa Whitaker of Hemisphere Sales Group, which is managing sales for Sabbia Beach. “It’s an ideal location for those who want to experience oceanfront living year round, including empty nesters looking to downsize without having to sacrifice lifestyle and living space. It’s also ideal for those who desire a second or third home.” “Buyers are moving north from Miami and Fort Lauderdale as oceanfront land has become rare and more expensive,” said Amy Ballon, a partner in Hemisphere Sales Group. “Our developers understand this trend and have set out to create a landmark building.” While sales have already begun, the development team is planning to build an on-site sales gallery which is expected to open in mid-spring. Groundbreaking is expected in the Fall of 2015 with expected completion in 2017. sports Boca Raton FC Fights Lighting Delay, Defeats Piranhas 5-1
Photos By Gabriela Heizer
Boca Raton Football Club (2W-1L-0D) had its first away game of the 2015 American Premier Soccer League season on Sunday, May 24 at Jupiter High School where they defeated Palm Beach Piranhas (0W-2L-1D) 5-1. “It was a complete team effort,” said head coach Marcelo Castillo. “We played a very good game and set the tone early on.” Boca Raton jumped to an early lead in the 5th minute when Bruno Militz scored his first goal of the season after finishing a sensational cross from Colby Burdette. Minutes later, Boca Raton doubled its lead after another brace from Militz on an assist by C.J. Phelps. “My teammates kept finding me in the box,” said Militz. “It was my job to just find the open space and put it in the net.” Palm Beach Piranhas got one goal back in the 32nd minute but that was about the only shot on goal Piranhas had.
Right before the half, Gio DiMaruco gave the visiting team the 3-1 advantage heading into halftime. After a 30-minutes lighting delay, both teams took the field for a hard-fought second half which saw Boca Raton score two more goals courtesy of Colby Burdette and Jose Herrera. “It was a hard-fought game all around,” added Burdette. “Both teams played very hard and I’m glad we were able to get these important three points on the road.” “We still have work to do,” added Castillo. “We are still learning to play with each other, but a win away from home is always a great feeling.” Boca Raton now sits in fourth place in the APSL standings heading into this weekend’s matchup versus 5th-place Alianza Miami at Wild Lime Center Park in Miami on Sunday, May 31 at 8pm.

Strikers Fall 1-0 To Carolina at Home
In their first home match in three weeks, the Fort Lauderdale Strikers came up short in a 1-0 loss to the Carolina RailHawks on Saturday night at Lockhart Stadium in front of a crowd of 4,801. In going scoreless in the match, Fort Lauderdale was shutout for the third consecutive game. “I think they were very, very lucky that they got three points, and we are sad and disappointed,” said Head Coach Marcelo Neveleff. “This is the third game that we cannot score goals. We need to just keep working on it and break that ice.” The home side conceded the game’s lone goal against the run of play late in the first half when Tiyi Shipalane slotted one past Lionel Brown after a give-and-go back-heel pass from Nacho Novo inside the box. Lionel Brown made two successive stops just prior to the goal on quick shots by the same two RailHawks players. The loss is the first at home for the Strikers in the all-time series with the RailHawks (6-1-1) since 2011. The Strikers outshot the RailHawks 17-7, with 5-4 shots on goal. Fort Lauderdale also had 10 corner kicks while Carolina had three. Down a goal, Fort Lauderdale pushed for the equalizer for the better part of the second half, particularly in the last 10 minutes when substitutes Jose Angulo and Dani Sánchez had solid opportunities
to score. Angulo’s hard shot in the 90th minute went just over the bar, while Sanchez had a header denied by goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald seven minutes prior. Sanchez also tested Fitzgerald with a shot from outside the area in the 81st, one minute after Marlon Freitas attempted a long-range shot that was retained by the keeper. Shawn Chin, who replaced Evans Frimpong in the 64th minute, was on the receiving end of a long pass three minutes later, but his shot sailed high. Leo Moura’s effort early in the second half also went over the net. Coach Neveleff deployed a 4-2-3-1 lineup, changing from the 4-4-2 used in the previous six matches. Goalkeeper Lionel Brown and midfielder Evans Frimpong made their first starts of the year. The Strikers controlled play for most of the first half that included two quality scoring chances by Leo Moura and Stefano Pinho. Stefano was denied twice in the 33rd and 35th minutes when both of his attempts were turnaround shots that were stopped by Fitzgerald. Moura almost maximized a mistake by the goalkeeper who gave the ball away, and then covered his error by making the save in the 39th minute.
Lynn Women’s Tennis Earns Pair of All-America Selections
Lynn University’s Rosalie Willig continued to earn postseason honors with the announcement of the 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-America Teams on Friday morning. Willig finished the season ranked 19th in Division II to earn AllAmerica accolades in singles while partnering with No. 5 Valentine Confalonieri to make the ninth-best duo in the country earning doubles honors. The ITA All-America team is determined by the final Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings. For singles, the athlete must finish in the Top-20 while doubles must have a Top-10 rank at the completion of the season.
After Two-Game Road Trip, Boca Raton FC Return Home
After two strong road victories, Boca Raton Football Club (3W-0D-1L) returns to The Shipyard this Friday, June 5 at 8pm to take on Alianza Miami (1W-2D-2L). “We had a strong two weeks away from home,” says head coach Marcelo Castillo. “Now it’s time to give our home fans the show they deserve and go for our thirdstraight win.” After their 1-0 loss to Miami Dade FC at The Shipyard on May 15, Boca Raton went on the road and defeated Palm Beach Piranhas 5-1 on May 24, and then went down to Miami and defeated Real Miami CF 2-1 on May 31. “On May 15 we were still getting to know eachother,” says captain Stefano Bontempo. “Coach has preached patience and we have been listening and it’s paying off.” During the two-game win streak midfielder
Bruno Militz has scored three goals, tying him for 4th in the APSL Golden Boot race. “We have been growing stronger as a team,” says Militz. “We have learned a lot about eachother these last two weeks, we feel good as a club, and I’m becoming more comfortable in my role in the starting eleven.” Boca Raton FC will look to once again break it’s own record which was set on May 15 when over 650 fans packed The Shipyard to watch the 1-0 loss to Miami Dade. “Our fans are tremendous,” adds Castillo. “They have traveled these last two weeks to watch us and they have been loud and we certainly hear them in the field, they give us that extra push, they are the 12th men.” Boca Raton FC already holds the record for an APSL crowd when over 650 people came to watch the Miami Dade FC match, but in order to make The Shipyard one of the most feared home atmospheres in the APSL, Boca Raton FC is giving away free tickets to any fan who uses the promo code VICTORY during checkout.
The sophomore out of Stuttgart, Germany, posted a 19-3 record playing majority of the season at the No. 2 singles spot in the lineup. She was 2-1 against nationallyranked opponents and undefeated against regionallyranked opponents. When partnered with fellow All-America selection Confalonieri, Lynn’s top pair went 13-4 overall and 6-1 in the Sunshine
State Conference. This marks the first time in her career Willig has earned All-America honors and the eighth-consecutive season the Fighting Knights have had at least one player earn both singles and doubles recognition. Willig is the 96thathlete in program history to earn All-America honors. Adding to her postseason awards, she was selected to the All-SSC First Team in both singles and doubles this year as well as a Capital One/CoSIDA At-Large Academic All-District honoree. Additionally, she was named the ITA South Region Player to Watch.
