Ongoing work on a new Interstate 95 exit in Boca Raton is causing a shift in traffic patterns for the week. Beginning late Monday, traffic traveling south on I-95 will be shifted closer to the median just south of Yamato Road. In addition, the southbound entrance ramp to the highway from eastbound Yamato will close nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. until Friday. Also, the southbound entrance ramp from westbound Yamato will close periodically during the same time. Drivers will have to take Congress Avenue during those closures. Consumer watchdogs reported the giant utility, which made $1.3 billion in profits last year, places 100% of the drilling risk on ratepayers while pocketing any profits. Palm Beach County posted a little over 1700 home sales in May, up 6% compared to last year, with 48% being cash buys. Palm Beach County tourism officials reported that April was a sizzling month with a 7% increase in tourists over April of last year, plus 376,000 hotel night bookings were sold to out of town visitors and the tourism bed tax was up a stunning 26% compared to last year. The county provides over 16,000 hotel rooms generating a 6% sales tax when occupied. Community Pearl City Celebrates Its 100th Anniversary With Fun, Reflection, and Community Bonding
10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., where event attendees walked through Pearl City and Lincoln Court to Hughes Park. The next locale for the day’s celebration was held at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. It was here that attendees got a taste of history. With museum offerings/ exhibits, people at the event were allowed to both see and hear Pearl City’s 100 year long journey through presentations by guest speakers, maps, and much more. This segment went from 10:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. The Centennial Anniversary concluded with a celebration at Hughes Park. Food and beverages were provided for guests, which included burgers and hot dogs. There was also free entertainment, music, and plenty of family activities for guests to partake in that made the day a truly fun-filled experience. John E. Brown, a member of DISC (Developing Interracial Social Change), a group that helped to set up the event, talked about how he thought the day was a true success. “I feel that this awesome event turned out
really well,” Brown said. “It really brought together so many members from the Pearl City community and allowed us to come together as one to celebrate this great place we call home here in the Boca Raton area. That feeling of community closeness was felt all around on this day and we couldn’t have asked for more.” Mitchell Smith, another fellow member of DISC and event organizer, reflected on the event and how he thought it turned out. “I think the celebration was an overall success,” Smith said. “To have the descendants of the original pioneers with us to reminisce on some enjoyable and not so enjoyable past events was indeed remarkable. I would have liked to have seen more of the youth who are from the surrounding communities in attendance in an effort for them to learn more about their history.” Pearl City was originally platted on May 30th, 1915and was designated as a historic district by the Boca Raton City Council in 2002.
Things to do in Boca Raton on the Fourth of July By Christian Alonso This week coming is the Fourth of July, one of our nation’s greatest celebrations. You got your grilling on, cooking up some burgers and hot dogs, with a nice cold beer in your hand as you got your fireworks ready. Everything about that sounds really good to do but what if you want to change up for this upcoming Fourth of July. You can still have your cold beer in your hand, you can eat your burgers or hot dogs without the hassle of making it yourself, and you can watch those fireworks getting blown up in the sky without you getting burn in the process or blown up as well. Well, in our great town of Boca Raton, we have stuff for you to do and you can bring your family along as well. And for those who might aren't into the whole fireworks exploding, there are some stuff to do too as well. For your family fun you have three events going on. At the Count de Hoernle Park over by 1000 NW Spanish River Boulevard, you have the Fabulous Fourth Celebration. It starts at 5:30 p.m., with numerous activities which include: Zip line rides, carnival games, food for purchase and children’s crafts. The All-Star American

After Crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge, it is Poignant to know the History Behind the Name By Breathtaking, chilling and awesome. Those are the top adjectives that come to mind as I describe my feeling after walking across the infamous Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Ala., a few days ago. While taking a group of students to the Tech Village and Youth Hackathon at Essence Festival in New Orleans, we stopped at the civil rights landmark on Sunday. This was one of several stops in seven cities across the South where we toured local cultural heritage landmarks, historical civil rights sites and historically black colleges on our 10-day field trip. Sitting behind the bus driver, my heart skipped a beat as I saw the welcome sign upon entering the city limits of Selma. I was overcome with emotion. It
was as if my spirit dropped. All I kept thinking was: the day finally arrived when I would visit the disdain city – the city where more than 600 non-violent protesters were attacked by Alabama state troopers as they tried to march from Selma to Montgomery for voting rights. As I walked across the span, the thoughts from Director Ava DuVernay's film Selma kept popping up in my mind. I pictured the racist Dallas County sheriff Jim Clark firing his pistol and ordering mounted deputies and state troopers to advance, I thought about the men and women coughing and the trampling hoofs on them as they tried to run in the cloud of tear gas. I became angry – not at the perpetuators because they did not know any
better. However, I was angry at those people of color today who fail to acknowledge the sacrifices, clubbing and beatings taken so that we can have the freedom we enjoy today. In what seemed like a split of a second, we stopped traffic, moved quickly into the street for a photo shoot then went back on the sidewalk, two-a-breast. It appeared the motorists who had stopped understood. It felt so powerful. There is a movement brewing across the state on whether they should rename the bridge the Journey to Freedom Bridge. Until earlier this year when the world watched as approximately 40,000 crossed the bridge for the 50th anniversary of the Celebration of Bloody Sunday - the Selma to Montgomery civil
rights march - many knew the name but few knew who Edmund Pettus was. On Sunday, most of us learned he was a lawyer, a general in the Confederate army, a U. S. Senator and Grand Dragon of the Alabama Ku Klux Klan who used his positions to deny blacks from voting in the late 1800's and early 1900's. His terrorist organization terrorized Catholics and Jews and also killed, maimed, and terrorized blacks for nearly a century. After this experience, I think the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights march should not be limited to an occasional article in the news but should be an integral part of the curriculum in our public schools. After all, the event played a pivotal role in shaping the America we live in today.
POSITIVE LIVING By Dr. Synesio Lyra, Jr.
Learn to Work With Varied Possibilities! There are people who are so limited only to their own ideas, that they never consider other points of view, nor other reasonable possibilities of solving a problem, beyond what they alone accept to be the only possible solution. True achievers, however, never confine themselves in this manner. From the start they realize that if plan A doesn’t work, let’s look at other alternatives before giving up their attempts of creating something good, or applying a new methodology or technology to what is being tested! The insecure individual, who operates with tunnel vision, prefers to argue, to complain, to discredit, and to do
countless more inconsequential things, instead of considering suggested alternatives while there is yet time to accomplish what can bring the desired results. Through the years I’ve come to recognize that there can be multiple answers to one single question without any reply contradicting the other. A viewpoint depends on the angle though which a person is observing a situation, even if several other persons are attempting the same from the perspective through which they analyze what they contemplate. Most often, it’s through the contribution of several that a proper conclusion is best reached, on account
of the varied perspectives that construct the fuller picture! Some people, insisting on their single, chosen way of doing things, can spend countless hours, or even days without success, and still dismiss other suggestions to what can be a better way – indeed the most decisive manner of leading that task into the desired resolution! I’m convinced that many times it’s personal pride that blocks one’s pathway to genuine accomplishment; it’s a person’s insistence in pursuing a road already travelled without ever leading to the sought destination. Sadly, some individuals become defen-
sive when their suggestion is rejected and their way is not attempted. They label the detractors with many uncomplimentary classifications, considering defiance as the primary attitude being shown by the true visionaries. Yet, such is hardly the case because no one is limited to just one way of doing things, nor one single manner of addressing any situation. Issues need to be understood from the inside out, as well as from top to bottom. Those who limit their observation will never attain a satisfactory understanding, if any at all!
Dr. Synesio Lyra, Jr. is a Florida resident who, for many years, was a professor at the post-graduate level. Finding Your Best Job Evaluating almost any situation, things could be even worse – including the work we do. But that does not mean we should settle for less than what we believe is best for us, if we have a choice. Recently I came across a chart that illustrated characteristics of the ideal job for anyone, regardless of their profession. It showed four criteria that, if met, could make any kind of work perfect for someone. These criteria include: 1) you love the work; 2) you excel at doing the work; 3) the world needs the work; and 4) you get compensated for doing the work. If you can find a position that meets all four of these, you will have a job that not only gives you a profession, but also a mission, a sense of calling, and something you can pursue with great passion. Recently I had my annual checkup with my cardiothoracic surgeon, who performed open-heart surgery on me more than eight years ago. I thought about how his career fits this description. He clearly enjoys what he does, he is one of the most skilled at the types of surgeries he performs, there is obviously a need for it – and he is paid well for his work. But you do not have to be a highly compensated professional to fit the criteria. Throughout much of own my career, I have been blessed to have jobs that seemed nearly perfect for me. Years ago I discovered a Bible passage that aptly describes what I do:“My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite my composition concerning the King; my tongue is the pen of a ready writer” (Psalm 45:1). Not everyone is called to write, of course. But we all have innate, unique gifts and skills that properly and fully utilized could
make work a source of joy, not drudgery. Here is a biblical perspective: Loving your work. If we believe God designed us with purpose, we can trust He equipped us to perform special work – and to enjoy the opportunity to do it. The challenge is to discover what that work is, and then to pursue it wholeheartedly.“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well” (Psalm 139:14). Excelling at your work. It may not happen immediately, but if we seek to perform our work with quality, with a commitment to excellence, in time it will be noticed – and rewarded.“Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men” (Proverbs 20:13). Doing work that is needed. Tedious, repetitive work might not seem fulfilling, but if our work has purpose and meaning, it can become its own reward. Like the stonemason on a construction crew centuries ago. He said he rejoiced because, “I am not building a wall. I am building a cathedral!”“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). Being paid for your work. There may be times when it might be necessary to volunteer or work only part-time at those things we enjoy most, but if we can succeed in merging our work and passion, we will find ourselves being compensated for what we love to do.“For Scripture says, ‘Do not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grain’ and ‘The worker deserves his wages’” (1 Timothy 5:18).
Just Play Bridge Q: I was married to my first husband for
forty-five years. He had worked for the General Motors in Detroit his whole life. He was retired and had earned a pension, which continued to pay me after his death. The catch was that the pension would stop if I remarried. As the saying goes, “there is no fool like and old fool.” A friend of mine in Miami Beach fixed me up with a very nice man. We dated. We became “very friendly.” About a year, after we met we got married. It seemed like as soon as we got married he changed. He was no longer so sociable, friendly to me or loving. Now he does nothing but go to the Indian Casino to play poker, or sit around and drink beer and watch the big screen TV his son and daughter bought him for his 80th birthday. We don’t even sleep in the same room. I cook and clean for him. I’d have been better off if I rented a room from him, or moved in as a paid housekeeper. After six months of marriage, I’m thinking divorce. Yesterday he mentioned divorce. From what I have read in your paper, I know that we haven’t been married long enough to get alimony. Is there anyway for me to get my Pension back, so I would have money to live on in addition to my social security. Maybe. Call the office of the adminis-

trator of the General Motors pension and ask whether an annulment of the marriage would restore your pension payments. Marriages can be annulled based on fraud. One form of fraud upon which an annulment of marriage can be based, is the refusal of one of the marriage partners to consummate the marriage (have sex with the other marriage partner) after the marriage. The refusal to consummate can be emotional or physical. In order to prove this ground for annulment you would probably need the cooperation of your husband. You would both testify as to the circumstances supporting your position. Your attorney, in his or her opening statement, can explain to the judge why the annulment is important to you economically, and why you’re requesting an annulment, rather than a divorce. Whether the judge actually believed your testimony or not, an annulment would probably be granted, with a wink and a nod, as an easy and practical way to solve your financial problem. If that works out you might consider just saying, “Let’s just play bridge.” the next time your friends try to fix you up. Michael H. Boca Raton Regional Hospital Listed Among Nation’s High Performing Hospitals Boca Raton Regional Hospital has been designated “high performing” in heart failure, hip replacement and knee replacement procedures in the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals for Common Care ratings. The ratings evaluate more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide on common inpatient procedures and conditions. U.S. News analyzed hospitals in five procedures and medical conditions – heart bypass surgery, hip replacement, knee replacement, heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) – and rated those high performers, average or below average. Roughly 10 percent of hospitals reviewed were listed as high performers. Boca Regional was the sole hospital in Palm Beach County and one of only 10 of the 145 studied in Florida to be cited as high performing in three or more categories. “The choice of a hospital is one of the most important and costly decisions an individual makes,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis for U.S. News. “We evaluated the treatment of more than 3.6 million patients and identified a small percentage of hospitals that have superior outcomes compared with their peer institutions. Whenever
possible, patients, in consultation with their doctors, should seek out high performing hospitals that excel in treating their specific condition.” U.S. News created Best Hospitals for Common Care to help patients find better care for the kinds of common procedures and medical conditions that account for millions of hospitalizations each year. Objective outcome measures such as deaths, infections, readmissions and operations that need to be repeated, as well as patient satisfaction data, largely determined the ratings. The Best Hospitals for Common Care ratings rely on Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services data for patients 65 and older, as well as survey data from the American Hospital Association and clinical registry data from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. “We are truly honored to be recognized in such prestigious fashion,” said Jerry Fedele, President and CEO of Boca Raton Regional Hospital. “To be rated as high performing by U.S. News & World Report speaks volumes about the quality of our physicians and our commitment to excellence in patient care.”

Strikes At Boca: Affordable Fun For The Whole Family
On Saturday, June 27 at 9:15 p.m., a Boca Raton Police officer was on patrol in Oaks Plaza. The officer had just pulled into the Mobil gas station at 690 West Glades Road, when she was approached by a male who said an unknown subject had snatched his cell phone out of his hand and rode off on a bicycle. The victim told the officer he had posted an online ad on iTrade to sell his iPhone 5. A Facebook user contacted him and agreed to pay $140 and they agreed to meet. After discussing several locations, they agreed to meet at the CVS. The suspect rode up on a bicycle and the victim noticed a second male on a bicycle a short distance away. After a brief discussion, the suspect grabbed the phone from the victim and rode off on

The once known Don Carter’s All Star Lanes, to Boca Bowl, to its current name, Strikes at Boca, has been around for about 34 years. Boca Raton’s longtime bowling alley, Strikes At Boca, has been the home to many as a source of entertainment and social outings. With inexpensive bowling rates, the bowling alley has successfully attracted numerous summer camps, birthday parties, families, and corporate meetings. The normal weeknight rate is $15.00 per lane, for one hour of bowling. Shoe rentals are $3.75. While these rates alone are fairly cheap, it is the weekly specials that attract the majority of customers. On mondays after 8pm, beer, bowling and shoe rentals are all $.99. On tuesdays after 9pm, bowling is $7.00 per person, including shoe rentals. The wednesday madness special includes $.25 games and shoe rentals, and $.99 beer. Three Olives Thursdays is an all you can bowl special, with $7.00 bowling and three olive vodka drinks for only $3.50. When asked for her opinion on Strikes at Boca, Morgan Otto, a local West Boca teenager stated “It’s not as expensive as every other place.” On both Friday and Saturday night, the typical bowling alley atmosphere changes into a disco light show with a DJ. The rate on friday from 5pm-8pm is $3.99 per person, including shoe rentals.
Facebook Transaction Leads to Robbery
Open on Sundays, all day bowling passes are available for only $10.00 per person, including shoe rentals. Ronnie Belletieri, the owner of Strikes at Boca about 10 years, says that “The all day pass on Sunday is a great deal, people can come and go as they please.” As the bowling alley has gone from a dying sport to a teen hangout spot, customers frequently enjoy the snack bar’s variety of food, the full bar and the mini arcade. According to Belletieri, the past two food inspections that the bowling alley has had passed with a 100%. Student Ashley Grandovic says that Strikes At Boca is “A great time with great people and quality service”. Although the equipment is aged and sometimes faulty, the general establishment runs efficiently. It is safe and clean. With its 50 employees and 64 lanes, Strikes At Boca makes bowling a fun, social and affordable activity.

a bicycle. The second male also rode off on his bicycle. The victim told officers that after the robbery he received a message stating, “Sorry bro I gotta eat.” Investigating detectives were able to track down the suspect, identified as Dangelo Lorissaint, who was identified by the victim. Lorrisaint confessed to detectives that he had stolen the phone. Detectives charged Lorissaint with robbery by sudden snatching. The Boca Raton Police want to urge online buyers and sellers to use our police department as a safe exchange zone to conduct their transactions. The parking lot is also available if the lobby is closed. Visit http://www.ci.boca-raton.fl.us/police/stories/safeexchange.shtm for more tips.

ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION? DON’T TRUST YOUR ERECTION TO JUST ANYONE, FIND A REAL ED SPECIALIST.
You deserve to learn about all treatment options - most often, without an up-front financial commitment other than a co-pay. Insurance should be discussed and in most cases is accepted. The “men’s medical clinics” offering only injections are typically offering just one treatment option for Erectile Dysfunction (ED). Learn about all the treatment options and find a trained Urologist who specializes in treating ED.
There is not a whole lot I can say about “Ted 2.” As a sequel it is more of the same profanity and crude humor, but less poop and grossness. This is a family-oriented newspaper not an R-rated movie comedy, so I can’t quote much from the dialog. I will say it is funny with a few good zingers created by writer-director-producer Seth MacFarlane, who also provides the voice of the magic Teddy Bear who came to life to be the best buddy of Johnny Bennett (Mark Wahlberg). John is a grown man in his 30s with a severe case of arrested development. In the first film he falls in love and marries a girl named Laurie, played by Mila Kunis. In the sequel they are already divorced and Johnny is moping around while Ted the Bear has fallen in love with Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth), a gum-snapping floozy from the first film, and they have gotten married in a civil ceremony presided over by Flash Gordon (Sam Jones, playing himself). Don’t ask how a fully-grown woman can marry a Teddy Bear. I can just imagine MacFarlane in a bull session with his “Family Guy” co-collaborators Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild dreaming up what bizarre scenarios they could conjure for woman and stuffed talking toy. How about artificial insemination so Tami-Lynn can become a mother? How about trying to steal sperm from New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady, again playing himself ?
When that joke vein peters out (sorry), there must be another plot complication. How about a scheme by Hasbro Toy Company janitor Donny (Giovanni Ribisi) to have Ted and Tami-Lynn’s marriage declared null and void because Ted is “not a person?” Yeah, and then Donny can steal Ted and rip him apart and discover what makes him so special so he can be reproduced. This way the “voice of God” lawyer played by Morgan Freeman can be introduced, leading to my favorite line in the movie by Ted” “I want to sleep on a bed made of your voice.” Amanda Seyfriend does yeoman duty as John’s new love interest and Ted’s pro bono lawyer defender, Samantha Jackson. She sings a lovely version of “Mean Old Moon” that charms forest creatures. The cameos are the best part of “Ted 2.” Liam Neeson pokes great fun at his macho image furtively buying a box of Trix kids’ cereal at the supermarket. John Slattery is every slick lawyer you want to hate, Shep Wild. John Carroll Lynch is every sneaky CEO you ever wanted to hate, Tom Jessup. The first “Ted” earned $550 million worldwide, making it the best-selling R-rated original comedy ever. It’s hard to argue with those figures. If “Ted 2” doesn’t tank, we’ll probably see “Ted 3.” Rating:

Both teams were evenly matched throughout the game and right before the halftime whistle Sekani Sinclair doubled Boca Raton FC’s lead heading in the break. Boca Raton FC faced their most crucial match of the 2015 American Premier Soccer League season on Saturday when they took on league-leaders, Red Force FC. “The whole week we had been preparing for this game knowing it was one of the most important of the season,” said mid-
fielder Bruno Militz. “The coaching staff did an amazing job in getting us prepared.” Boca Raton FC got in the scoring side 13 minutes into the game when Gabe Taboda blasted a shot that deflected off a Red Force defender and found its way to the back of the net to give the visiting team the

Gomez Selected for GCAA All-Nicklaus Team Lynn University men's golfer Mateo Gomez became the first student-athlete in program history to be selected for the 2015 All-Nicklaus Team presented by Barbasol and announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Gomez is one of 24 players from Divisions I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA recognized for their outstanding play during the 2015 collegiate season. The sophomore out of Cali, Colombia, was one of three men's golfers to represent Division II, along with fellow Sunshine State Conference member, and national player of the year, Santiago Gomez of Nova Southeastern and Michael Hearne from Southern Nazarene. Gomez began his Blue & White career by becoming only the second golfer in Lynn history to win the first tournament he

competed in and took off from there. He logged six top-10 finishes in eight events, including individual runner-up at the NCAA Division II National Championship. He posted the second-best single-season stroke average in program history (71.77) and was named both a First Team AllSunshine State Conference and First Team PING/GCAA All-America selection. The All-Nicklaus Team was created in 2008, and is not only named for history's greatest player but also a long-time supporter of collegiate and amateur golf. Jack Nicklaus, a Big Ten and NCAA Champion at The Ohio State University, helped inspire and create the Jack Nicklaus Awards in 1988. The Nicklaus Award is annually given to the top collegiate men's golfer in Divisions I, II, III, the NAIA and the NJCAA.
With Two Weeks To Go, APSL Positioning is up for Grabs After a slate of games in the American Premier Soccer League this past weekend, the playoff picture is becoming clearer. After the 3-1 defeat to Boca Raton FC, Red Force FC not only lost their second straight game of the season, but find themselves in third place in the standings after being in first place most of the season. A hard-fought game saw early goals by Boca Raton’s Gabe Taboda, yet Red Force was able to get one back in the second half after Hosman Ramos got the ball past Alan Trani, but Boca was able to keep the 3-1 score line for their 6th straight consecutive win. Boca Raton has not lost a game since May 15. In other games across the league, Alianza Miami routed Miami Nacional 5-1 on June 27th. With the win, Alianza Miami moves into 5th place in the APSL standings. Uruguay Kendal took the field on Sunday and played to an exciting 3-3 draw with Real Miami, who are fighting for the 6th and final playoff spot with South Florida FC. Heading into the final game of the season, all the spots are up for grabs, with a crucial
match between Boca Raton FC and Uruguay Kendal on July 12 that will decide who takes home the regular season APSL tittle. Miami Dade, Alianza Miami, South Florida FC, and Real Miami are all fighting to solidify their playoff position with a mere two points separating 4th-seed Miami Dade with 7th-seed Real Miami. South Florida FC takes on Estudiantes Del Guayas on July 2 at the Broward College South Campus. With the 2015 regular season coming to a close, one thing is certain, late-season drama will be at an all-time high in the final two weeks.
The Fort Lauderdale Strikers today announced Günter Kronsteiner as the club’s head coach. Kronsteiner will join the team in time for Wednesday’s international friendly versus Argentine powerhouse Boca Juniors at Lockhart Stadium. Kronsteiner will be available following Wednesday’s 8:00 p.m. Strikers versus Boca Juniors match Lockhart Stadium. A credential specific to the game will be required to attend (regular-season Strikers credentials will not grant access). “We are thrilled that Günter is returning,” said Strikers Managing Partner Ricardo Geromel. “We remain convinced that the team possesses tremendous potential. Under Günter’s leadership, we expect to realize
this potential.” Kronsteiner guided Fort Lauderdale to the North American Soccer League Championship Final in 2014. He coached the team for the entire 2014 season and the 14 games of the 2013 Fall Season. “I am excited to come back to ‘my’ club,” said Kronsteiner. “I am especially eager to reconnect with the fans with whom I have a special relationship. I look forward to getting to know the 2015 Strikers players and figuring out how to climb the standings as fast as possible.” Iván Guerrero, a third-year Strikers’ defender who served as interim coach for the Strikers’ 3-2 victory against Minnesota United FC in the Spring Season finale on June 13, will serve as an assistant to Kronsteiner for the remainder of the season. He will also remain on the Strikers’ player roster. Raoul Voss, who served as Kronsteiner’s assistant in 2013-14, was also named an assistant coach. The native of Frankfurt, Germany will rejoin the team in time for Wednesday’s match.
