Community Whole Foods Market Donates Five Florida Atlantic’s Sport Hundred Thousand Pounds Of Management MBA Ranks Among Food To Boca Helping Hands Top Three Programs in World keeping with Whole Foods Market’s Core Values, America’s healthiest grocery store aims to serve and support their local and global communities – so much so that the company’s Boca Raton store has donated more than five hundred thousand pounds of food to Boca Helping Hands in the past five years, a feat that will be celebrated on July 7, 2016.

At the Boca Helping Hands Food Center, volunteers serve hot meals six days a week to families and individuals that include the unemployed and underemployed, single parents, children and the elderly.

“Whole Foods Market was on the frontline of food recovery, and has been our most consistent partner for the past eight years,” said James Gavrilos, Executive Director of Boca Helping Hands. “The fuel needed to run our train consists of three parts: money, food and volunteers. Whole Foods Market has provided us with all three.”

Boca Helping Hands picks up donations from Whole Foods Market every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. More than half the food Whole Foods Market donates is produce (22%), dairy and cheese (26%) and prepared foods (13%).

“Produce, dairy and cheese, and prepared foods are key categories due to their nutritional value and it’s a food group that seldom gets donated,” said Karen Doyle, Whole Foods Market’s Regional Healthy Eating and Green Mission Specialist. “The Food Donation Connection coordinates daily pick-ups which enables us to donate these perishable foods.”

Through food recovery, Whole Foods Market has provided 384,615 meals to local families through the partnership with Boca Helping Hands. Gavrilos credits the strength of the relationship to proximity and Whole Foods’ commitment to community.

“Whole Foods Market was a pioneer of food recovery. Up until a few years ago, you went to a food pantry and received cans of food and bread,” said Gavrilos. “The critical change that Whole Foods made was giving fresh produce and nutritionally rich products that we could put in the hands of the most nutritiously vulnerable groups.”

On July 7, Boca Helping Hands will honor Whole Foods Market as a key partner with a plaque presentation inside the Whole Foods Market located at 1400 Glades Rd #110, Boca Raton, FL 33431. The presentation will take place at 2 p.m.

As a Florida region, Whole Foods Market stores have partnered with Food Donation Connection, an international organization that manages food donation programs and provides an alternative to discarding surplus food. Since solidifying the partnership in April 2015, all 24 Whole Foods Market locations in Florida have jumped on board and partnered with a total of 65 charities and organizations, which are overseen by Food Donation Connection Every day, local organizations take turns visiting the store and picking up supplies for their community. Other organizations aided throughout the Sunshine State include the Salvation Army, Helping Hands and Lighthouse Mission. In addition to feeding the hungry and keeping the food waste out of the landfill, Whole Foods Market’s partnership with Food Donation Program is a sense of pride among the company’s team members. Last holiday season, Whole Foods Market’s regional team spread holiday cheer by visiting local charities and delivering donations.

Whole Foods Market is continuing their work with Food Donation Connection, and is aiming to donate another 2.5 million pounds by December 2016.

Making our Community a Better Place For many graduating high school seniors, the prospect of shelling out tens of thousands of dollars for a college education is daunting.

And thanks to a local scholarship foundation that is trying to keep students on a path to success after high school, 28 area students are heading off to college in the fall, and some as early as this week.

Each graduate - from one home school and eight public and private high schools in Boca Raton and Delray Beach - received four-year scholarships from the Eda and Cliff Viner Community Scholars Foundation, Inc. A panel of judges interviewed 64 applicants and selected the best, brightest and neediest.

Along with the scholarship, they were paired with volunteer mentors who will work with them over their four years in college.

This program, in its second year, will teach the students responsibility and hold them accountable. To be in compliance with their scholarship, they must contact their mentors every week.

This is a huge investment for these local professionals who were screened and completed a two-hour orientation. Several are first-time mentors. Others, including me, are old hands.

I like the Viner scholarship program because it eliminates one potential college entrance

barrier for good students — cost — and attempts to motivate high schoolers to keep their grades up. High school graduates who have at least a 3.0 average and have demonstrated they are academically ready for collegelevel math and English courses are eligible for the scholarships.

Currently, annual costs for tuition, room and board at an “affordable” state school range between $15,000 and $28,000. Even those who qualify for financial aid from the state, the federal government and the university itself can find themselves paying up to $18,000 per year.

To date, the program has given 46 local young men and women an opportunity to get a college education.

“The Viner Scholarship has helped me tremendously in my first semester of college,” Lauren Brito wrote. “By financially assisting me in the cost of my classes, materials, and more, this scholarship has relieved much stress and burden from my family and I, which allowed me to focus even more on school, and end up getting all A’s in my first semester.”

Another scholar, Megan Rahnama, has been volunteering as a researcher for Limbitless Solutions at the University of Central Florida

to create efficient prosthetics for children.

The pool of recipients reflects the community. Twelve are white, there are seven blacks, six Hispanics and three are Asians. Several of them are first in their families to pursue a post-secondary education. Many are the sons and daughters of locals who have worked all their adult lives in low-wage jobs. And for many, this scholarship will ease the financial burden.

The foundation also partners with a handful of local agencies and organizations to provide additional resources to help the students and their family members. In fact, this past year, those resources helped a parent who lost a job, a family that needed legal guidance and another family that needed special services for a disabled relative.

“The Viner Foundation understands what college students go through so by also providing a thoughtful mentoring system, I have someone I can always go to that can connect with me and guide me on a different level than my friends and family,” Brito continued. “Knowing that I have so many resources to help me succeed has truly made me a better, happier, more confident, and even more excited college student. I am so blessed and grateful to be a part of such a phenomenal program.”

On Sunday I attended the awards banquet at Boca West where, quite deservingly, these honorees were treated as royalties.

Motivational speaker and success coach Michael Rosenfeld encouraged the scholars to discover themselves as they begin the next chapter of their lives. Rosenfeld also did an upbeat bonding session with them a few weeks earlier at the Lifetime Athletic Club where the mentors met their protégées for the first time.

The highlight of Sunday’s event was U.S. Rep. Ted Deutsch, D- Boca Raton, who challenged them to find their own “moonshot”.

“Find a goal that you never thought would be possible, commit yourself to it,” he told them. “Find a passion that drives that ambition and if it was not clear to you when you came here tonight, that passion is going to be strengthened by your mentors and by this community.”

Improving the quality of life in our area, especially for our youth, is a commendable deed.

Eda & Cliff Viner, Carolyn Blake Goldman and all those responsible for this program deserve recognition for reaching out to outstanding local students with praise and financial support. Well done!

You Can Communicate Better!

Every human being comes into the world with communication mechanisms. Even newborn babies know how to share pressing needs to a parent or guardian, capable of supplying their request.

What many adults fail to understand, even after several years on planet earth, is that communication among fellow humans is a task that demands continued improvement. The mere utterance of words, or an expression of feelings, does not necessarily indicate that a message has been sufficiently grasped!

Those who are eager to be understood by others, so as to anticipate a response from them, are responsible to convey their message with clarity, free from interfering noises, and at a moment which offers the best chances

of comprehension, and the provision of an adequate response.

Not only serious issues, but also less significant matters, have the greatest probability of being heard, understood, and acted upon when timing, surroundings, and emotional wellbeing of those engaged in the conversation are key factors taken into consideration.

A dialogue does it best!

It is the one communicating to another who has the primary responsibility of ascertaining that the message has been heard and understood. While using the vacuum cleaner, when the television or radio are blasting, or when children are fighting or crying nearby, is not the right time to convey messages to another person, with the expectation of being clearly

heard!

The moment a spouse enters the house after a long day at work is never the best time to address any issue of importance to be received by the hearer, especially when that issue entails potentially bad news.

I once heard of a wise wife who studiously avoided greeting her husband after his long day at work with any bad news, regardless of the seriousness of the issue. So, one day, as soon as her husband entered the house, with a welcoming smile she went to kiss him, and proclaimed: “Hi, honey; you should be happy to know that three of our four children are not in the hospital at the moment!” With that creative approach, and the blow softened, she was able gradually to explain that one of the

kids had broken a leg during a ball game, but all else was okay!

You can avoid being misunderstood, not being heard, or sharing your thoughts at an inappropriate moment by seeking the right time, the best setting, and the most clear and adequate words which effectively and exhaustively express what you desire to convey.

It is not late at night, much less when you are tired in bed ready to sleep, or at moments when other pressing sirens beckon another’s attention that you should spill your concerns, or seek an answer to significant matters.

Communication is not hard, but it needs to be done effectively!

Local Residents to Share Ideas on Redesigning High Schools of Tomorrow

A group of local residents vying to reform high schools will be in Miami on June 24 to meet on a school bus that is on a multi-city national tour.

The XQ Super School Bus is enroute from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C., and is stopping in communities as part of the XQ Super School Challenge, a contest backed by Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

The bus will be at Bayfront Park, one of 14 scheduled stops, where they are engaging with community members about how they think high schools could better prepare students for college, workplace and life, said Keisha Harrington, a Boynton Beach educator who is part of a local team that submitted an application.

“The bus tour is designed to encourage students, parents, teachers and community members to explore innovative ways to improve high schools in an age of innovation,” said Harrington, whose application is a finalist in the largest open call for public high school redesign in American history.

“It also will be an opportunity for the community to connect with us, and hear directly from us why we engaged in the challenge as well as some of the innovative ideas that we have for rethinking high school in South Florida,” she added.

The bus is customized with touchable iPads, a video booth and an interactive

wall displaying testimonials from educators and students along the way.

In September 2015, the Emerson Collective, an organization run by Powell Jobs, launched the competition to ask communities and people everywhere to rethink and redesign what high school could and should look like.

More than 1,000 ideas, including the one from the Delray Beach-based Visioneering Centre for Global Innovation and Communication, flowed in. So far, the proposals have been whittled down to 385, and at least five of those will receive $10 million grants. Winners will be announced in early August.

The vCentre plans to use the grant, which would be awarded over five years, to build a state of the art campus that will focus on project-based learning in science, technology, engineering, arts and math as well as cutting edge technology.

Students, educators and the community came up with the idea over several months of meeting, said C. Ron Allen, editor of the Boca Raton Tribune and operator of a local mentoring program.

“As soon as we learned of this opportunity to create a revolutionary school for our local students, we jumped on it full force,” said Allen, who spearheaded the project. “We gave it our all. And just the thought of knowing that we are finalists in a national competition that attracted more than 1,000 applicants is worth celebrating.”

I attnded the Luxury Chamber or Commerce networking party at the New York Prime restaurant last nite. A very large group was present at this event to hear speakers, Khalilah Ali, former wife of Muhammed Ali and Scott Singer of the Boca Raton City Council speak.

The black hat diva’s enjoyed a wonderful German lunch at Gretl’s Bistro of Potato Pancakes, jaeger scnitzel, spaetzle and red cabbage and apple strudel. The group was filmed for a t.v. show in August by BYL network.

Meet the New, HighlySculpted Tarzan

Meet the new, improved Tarzan, Alexander Skarsgard in “The Legend of Tarzan.”

Skarsgard, a Swedish actor who is a towering 6-foot-4, underwent intensive training and dieting to become the most finelychiseled Tarzan ever. He is teamed with the delicately beautiful Australian actress Margot Robbie as Jane.

Director David Yates is responsible for the last four of the Harry Potter movies, all of which had eye-popping visual style. For exteriors, Yates flew his crew to the magnificent Gabon National Parks in Africa, lending the movie a wild visual beauty.

Only vaguely inspired by the original Edgar Rice Burroughs yarns, “Tarzan” is set in 1884, after the origin story of an orphaned boy raised by a family of apes in Africa.

Tarzan has left Africa and returned to England to claim his title as the 5th Earl of Greystoke, John Clayton III. Clayton has married his American girlfriend Jane, and they have settled into the life of the landed gentry, with Clayton a member of the House of Lords.

Meanwhile back in the Congo, claimed by King Leopold of Belgium, diamonds have been discovered. Something even more valuable than diamonds has evolved; the enslavement of natives under the greedy power of King Leopold’s emissary, Capt.

Leon Rom (Christoph Waltz). Rom has

entered in an agreement with tribal Chief Mbonga (Djimon Hounsou) to deliver Tarzan in exchange for diamonds. Rom concocts an excuse to lure Clayton back to Africa, where he can be captured.

In the revisionist script by Adam Cozad, Craig Brewer and a committee of others, Jane has become a feisty feminist, insisting she come along for the trip. Also muscling in on the mission is Civil War veteran George Washington Williams (Samuel L. Jackson), who knows about the slave trade and wants to expose it to the world.

It doesn’t take Clayton long to doff his shirt and prepare for battle. Jane predictably is captured and Tarzan revives his gift of communication with animals, most of whom are computer-generated, to defeat the bad guys. Jackson serves as comic relief in an otherwise sober story of exploitation.

Belgium was not the only European country with a shameful history of colonialism and exploitation in Africa. This is the first Tarzan movie of my recollection that has worked in modern social commentary.

Olympic swimmer Johnny Weissmuller remains the gold standard of Tarzans, but for sheer physical perfection, Skarsgard set the bar the highest yet.

Excited About Excellence One of the enjoyable things in life is being the beneficiary of work well done. Recently we have had several craftsmen engaged in improvement projects at our home. These included a bathroom tile specialist, a carpenter, painters, a tree cutting service, and a tree stump grinder. In nearly every case their work was excellent, and I would not hesitate to hire them again if needed.

These workers shared several common characteristics: They took pride in their work, doing it at a very high-quality level.

They were meticulous, attending to important details. They were prompt in arriving for the job. They were friendly. And they made a point to clean up after performing their work, even if the project extended into the next day. They left the scene as clean and orderly as when they arrived.

I think we all appreciate and admire such diligence. However, too many people, it would appear, are content with “good enough,” doing the bare minimum to technically fulfill their assignments or commitments. Pride in workmanship has become increasingly rare. Which is probably why it seems noteworthy when it is displayed in the workplace.

From the beginning of creation, excellence has been a hallmark, an attribute of God that has been passed on to all who have been made “in His image.” After each day of creation, recounted in Genesis 1, we are told, “God saw that it was good.” In a similar way, despite our human imperfections, we should be able to look back at our own work and “see that it was good.” Here are some practical observations from the Bible about the quality of our work:

We are equipped for good work. When confronted with a challenging job, we face the temptation to offer the excuse, “I can’t” or “I am not up to that task.” However, the Scriptures teach God will not ask us to do something He has not made us capable of performing – with His strength. “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do”(Ephesians 2:10).

Good work will be recognized. The satisfaction of doing work with excellence should be a reward in itself, but we can also have confidence that our diligence and quality work will not go unnoticed. “Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men” (Proverbs 22:29).

Good work increases our value. As a friend of mine often says, “To earn more, you have to be worth more.” Excellence and devotion to performing good work makes us more valuable to our companies, current and future employers, and our customers.

While unmotivated, uncaring workers complain about not getting pay increases and promotions, excellent work will usually propel us to positions of greater responsibility, more authority, and greater compensation.

“Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in slave labor” (Proverbs 12:24).

Good work should be constant. Being known as a worker of excellence should be a 24/7 pursuit. “Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let not your hands be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well”(Ecclesiastes 11:6).

Rotary Club of Boca Raton West has a new Board

Dinner Is Great But Art Lasts Forever Are you tired of the same old – same old?

Trying to decide what movie to go to and what restaurant to eat at?

So many decisions, so little time (perhaps).

That’s why it was a treat to stroll over to Eleven Spa for their Art Exhibit sponsored

by Art House of Delray.

The event, that was a fresh breeze of personalities and dreams, had a display of art from artists of all ages that emphasized nature and its relationship with humanity.

“Nurture Nature looks at the flip side of ‘nature versus nurture,’ which reinforces the conflict between man and environment.

‘Nurture Nature’ not only suggests coexistence, but emphasizes that humanity and nature share the world. It commands us to take care of it- shifting the role of man being seen as destructive to being a caretaker,” said Linnea Polischuk, independent art consultant, curator and appraiser.

But one needn’t know the purpose of its inherent goal to see that the art and the artists had an offbeat expressive way of uplifting those around them. And let’s face it; Eleven Spa is the quintessential environment for any party or purpose.

The curvy open airy space, the outdoor pool and cabanas and the art gallery feel made the event a wonderful way of melding people, places and things. Local artist Dana Donaty held court by her amazing Dali – like colorful pop art that is more wizardry than normality.

The artist, who is a genius with color and creativity, describes her work as “Taking risks to explore visual territory that can be provocative with unusual narratives. It’s an intoxicating mix of monstrous party animals and humans having a great time. It’s also a satirical lexicon of collision of the grotesque, outlandish burlesque, psychological flirtation and a super-charged palette like a party about to get out of control.”

She has a point. Art should always be an out of control flirtation with destiny. Add that to color and point of view and that’s what we witnessed that evening. Nearby were sequin paintings by Glauko Alizara’s

You couldn’t wear them, but instead were able to caress the surface with your hands and change their mere presence.

Sequins on clothing are static, but the meaning and message here were interchangeable, like our lives can often be.

Alizara’s work is a collaborative effort with Miami gallery space “In Real Life” by artists Eddie Negron Marla Rosen and others.

Nikki Saraiva surprised and delighted us with three-dimensional mixed media art.

The reclaimed wood canvas was thought provoking (which art should be) and consisted of an old doll split in two, hardware, wire, pantyhose fabric, metal hooks on the bottom and plastic. Saraiva has a different take on art than the mere spectator.

“My creative map ranges from assemblage, painting, bone art, body decor, photography and music. It has a direct link to emotions pertaining to love and distain (been there done that) and raw expression,” said the award-winning artist.

Native Floridian Kevin Dodge brought his Oceanic artistic dreams to life at the show as well. The colorful sparkling photography set us within the bounds of nature and the azure sea. His presence was also one of sheer joy. “I invite the viewer to pause and take a moment to see the silent, yet thrilling undersea world. From powerful and deadly Swordfish and sharks to the thrilling shallow world of Bonefish and Tarpon.”

The work was incredible and Dodge was easy on the eyes as well. I was just glad the sharks and swordfish were on the wall and not swimming beside me (though Dodge might disagree).

The art was wonderful, the people compelling and eclectic and the finger food went well with cucumber water and wine. It felt like an LA night with a New York vibe all packaged in a South Florida night.

Our hats are off to Eleven Spa and to art expert Linnea Polischuk - the night was incredible.

Sharon Eisenstein had recently moved into a new home when she found herself in the midst of a dental emergency. While moving furniture around, Eisenstein tripped, break-

ing her front two teeth on the ground.

“I always had a difficult time dealing with having to go to the dentist,” explains Eisenstein. “But things changed.”

After conducting some online research, Eisenstein found Dr. Fatmi and his dental group. Tipster Leads Boca Police to Robbery, Sexual Battery Suspect

BOCA RATON - A teenager was arrested and charged after using an advertisement on a website to lure and rob multiple people, Boca Raton Police said.

Gary Rojas, 18, also sexually battered one of the victims, according to the police report.

Police charged him with armed robbery, armed kidnapping and armed sexual battery.

The Boynton Beach teen was being held in the Palm Beach County Jail without bond.

The victim told detectives that Rojas called her on June 20 about a posting she placed on the website Backpage.com, advertising a room for rent, according to the police report. She said Rojas expressed interest in the room, and they arranged to meet so she could show it to him. As she waited outside

the home, Rojas pulled up in a silver Volkswagen Beetle, she told police.

“While looking at the room, the suspect pulled out a gun and repeatedly told the victim he wanted to kill her and demanded money,” police wrote in the report. “The victim said she would give him money but she would have to drive to the ATM to get it.”

Rojas drove the woman’s car to the TD Bank on West Palmetto Park Road and withdrew $700, police said.

While in the car, Rojas told the woman that he wanted to rent a room at a hotel and have her lure men there so he could rob them, she told police.

A similar incident happened at the Boca Inn the following morning when two victims arranged to meet the suspect also through the same website, police said. The suspect arrived and once inside the victim’s room, brandished a gun and demanded money.

The victims did not have any money and the suspect eventually left in a silver Volkswagen Beetle, police said.

Police linked Rojas to both incidents after using surveillance video from the TD Bank to confirm his identity. They posted the images of Rojas on social media and someone recognized him and called police.

Police tracked down Rojas, who confessed to both robberies.

“It was also determined that the suspect has access to a silver Volkswagen Beetle registered to a family member in Boynton Beach,” according to the police report. “Rojas was arrested Wednesday evening without incident and the gun was recovered which turned out to be a BB gun.”

sports Lynn Helps Reach New Mark on SSC Spring Honor Roll

A record 1,042 student-athletes are named to the 2016 Sunshine State Conference Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll, announced Wednesday by Commissioner Ed Pasque, featuring 100 from Lynn University.

A total of 168 SSC student-athletes carried a perfect 4.0 grade-point average for the semester with the Fighting Knights boasting 17.

This spring’s honor roll numbers break the previous records of 1,025 student-athletes honored and 149 with perfect grade-point averages set in 2015.

To be eligible for the Spring SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, a student-athlete must post a minimum grade-point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. Participants in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, women’s rowing, baseball, softball, and men’s and women’s lacrosse were eligible for the spring honor roll.

Fighting Knights secured 24 perfect 4.0 GPA’s this spring and finished out the 201516 academic year with a department total GPA of 3.37. Women’s tennis earned the highest GPA in the spring semester (3.89) and for the academic year (3.85). This is the second straight year that head coach Mike Perez’s team are Lynn’s champions in the classroom, with the help of four women’s tennis student’s posting perfect 4.0 GPA’s. Women’s golf joined women’s tennis in having 100% of its roster earning a 3.0 or better.

The men’s tennis team had the highest GPA for the spring (3.47) and for the year (3.45), also under the leadership of Perez. For the first time in Lynn history, the baseball team proudly tallied a 3.00 GPA in the spring semester, its championship season. Men’s lacrosse and baseball posted its highest academic year GPA in Fighting Knight history with a 3.36 and 3.17, respectively.

“This honor caps off an extraordinary year for an extraordinary student-athlete,” said Pat Chun, FAU’s vice president and director of athletics. “Kylee Hanson sets the bar for our entire athletics program both on the field and in the classroom. We are proud of Kylee’s accomplishments as well as the accomplishments of the entire softball program.”

Hanson, who recently completed her junior season, finished the year with a 28-5 record and led the nation in ERA (0.76), shutouts (15) and hits per seven innings (3.33).

She also was named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Year. At the C-USA tournament, Hanson won tournament MVP after leading the softball team to the school’s first C-USA tournament title in any sport. Her 16-0 mark in league play during the year set a C-USA record.

Hanson, FAU’s Female Athlete of the Year, earned Conference USA Pitcher of the Week seven times in 2016 and was named National Player of the Week by both ESPNW and NFCA. She was a Top-10 Finalist for the National Player of the Year Award and ended her junior season second in school history in career ERA, opponent batting average and strikeouts per seven innings, trailing only Nikki Myers, who, like Hanson, garnered All-American honors.

“It’s an honor to receive this award, I couldn’t have done it without my teammates, coaching staff and support system that’s here at FAU,” said Hanson. “I’m very excited about this accomplishment, but I’m looking forward to what’s to come in my senior year.”

Florida Atlantic finished the 2016 season with a 51-9 record. The Owls set a school record by winning 21 consecutive games, sweeping the C-USA regular season and tournament titles, and advancing to its second straight NCAA Regional.

Club World Cup Champion and Former Brazilian National, Amoroso Joins Boca Raton FC Boca Raton Football Club is excited to announce the signing of former Brazilian National Team, and São Paulo forward Márcio Amoroso, better known as simply Amoroso for the the 2016 APSL Season.

Amoroso, known for his time with teams such as São Paulo, Flamengo, Parma, and Borussia Dortmund, and the Brazilian National Team, comes to Boca Raton as he looks to invest in the ever-growing game here in the United States, and more specifically Boca Raton.

I’m very excited to be in Boca Raton. The club has a solid plan and I firmly believe in the vision of the club and their goals to grow soccer in the United States,” said Amoroso. “Soccer in the United States is growing and I want to be a part of this, my plans are to grow with Boca and jump in with them in new projects to catapult not only the team, but the sport in the US.” “We are very excited, and honored to have a player like Amoroso playing with us,” said Club President, Douglas Heizer. “His arrival in Boca Raton will be very important not only for this season, but most importantly for all the long-term projects of the club.”

Looking to leave his mark in the sport here in the United States, Amoroso’s goal isn’t to simply play for Boca Raton, but to be an ambassador of the club not only in the US,

but to the world.

“Boca Raton FC wants to be a club that grows talent and puts them in bigger teams in the United States and with Amoroso’s experience it will be paramount for us in our plans,” added Heizer. “We have many young players currently playing with us and we want them to know with Boca Raton their dreams will turn a reality. We are very excited to have the ‘Rei do MorumTri’ (King of MotumTri) join us and become the King of Boca Raton!”

The 5’11 forward began his career at Guarani FC in 1992. In the 1994 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A he was the tournament’s top scorer. In 1996, he transferred to Flamengo, but he came to prominence playing in the Italian Serie A for Udinese in the late1990s. When top scorer Oliver Bierhoff left the club for A.C. Milan in 1998, many thought Udinese Calcio would struggle to repeat their success, but that very next season Amoroso himself became the focus of the team, and was the top scorer in Serie A with 22 goals. The following season, he transferred to the defending UEFA Cup and Coppa Italia champions Parma.

In 2001, Amoroso made the move to Bundesliga-side, Borussia Dortmund, where he spent three years and scored 28 goals, in his first season with the club he helped the team with the Bundesliga title and was

also the league’s top scorer. The following season Amoroso led Borussia Dortmund to the 2002 UEFA Cup Final.

Amoroso moved to São Paulo in the summer of 2005 and helped them to the Copa Libertadores, as well as a FIFA Club World Cup, where he finished as the tournament’s top scorer.

“Having a player of his resume join our club speaks volumes of the work our ownership group is doing,” says head coach Pedro Yunes. “Even at 41, Amoroso will be a strong weapon in the APSL and we are glad he’s playing for us and not the the opposing teams.”

Amoroso is also a former Brazilian National Team member, where he debuted in a 5-0 win over Chile in 1995 and was an integral part of the 1999 Brazilian National Team that won the Copa America in Paraguay that year, Amoroso scored four goal in the tournament, only second to Rivaldo and Ronaldo who both scored five.
