Boca Raton Professionals Honored At ‘Honor Your Doctor’ Luncheon Raising record-breaking funds -topping $96,000 -- for medical and nursing school scholarships, this year’s Honor Your Doctor (HYD) Luncheon presented by the Rotary Club Downtown Boca Raton honored more than 175 physicians and Medical Professionals with more than 385 in healthcare, community and civic leaders in attendance.

The HYD Luncheon funds the Helen M. Babione Medical Scholarship that benefits medical and nursing school students attending four local universities: Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at FAU, Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing at FAU, Lynn University and Palm Beach State College.

New Head of FAU Tech Runway Announced

Rhys L. Williams has joined Florida Atlantic University as its new associate vice president and managing director of FAU Tech Runway. Williams comes to FAU after serving as the president and co-founder of New World Angels, Inc., a member-managed, structured angel investor group.

“Rhys has been the leader of the growing entrepreneurial ecosystem throughout South Florida and the state for years,” said Dan Flynn, Ph.D., FAU vice president for research. “His deep understanding about what it takes to take a kernel of an idea and turn that into viable company will benefit not just Tech Runway, but the wider university community as well. We’re confident that he’ll take the reigns at Tech Runway and launch it into its next phase of growth.”

Williams has been active in efforts to commercialize biotechnologies from Florida’s research universities and institutes, having co-founded several biotechnology spinout ventures. Previously he was a venture capitalist with SI Ventures and held executive positions with Ixion Biotechnology, Smith Barney, American Express, and the U.S. Army Special Forces.

“I am extremely excited to be joining the FAU Tech Runway team and its successful

efforts to accelerate the growth of the ‘next generation’ of early-stage companies within our ecosystem” said Williams. “As a part of extending Tech Runway’s impressive track record, additional emphasis will focus upon supporting entrepreneurial efforts aligned with FAU’s strategic plan in the four areas of sensing and smart systems; neuroscience; healthy aging; and ocean science and engineering/environmental sciences.

“FAU Tech Runway will become a crucial hub and key resource for building a culture of business leadership, innovation, and entrepreneurship within the FAU community, while serving as an indispensable partner for all entrepreneurs, investors, and allied stakeholders with an interest in further developing the region’s technology-based economy.”

Williams presently serves on the boards of Aplicor, Inc.; the Florida Venture Forum; the University of Miami’s Coulter Center Technology Review Committee; the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium; The LeMieux Center at Palm Beach Atlantic University; University of Florida’s Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation; and the Harvard Club of the Palm Beaches.

Michael Mullaugh Is Boca’s New Deputy Mayor

Boca Raton has a new deputy mayor.

At a meeting at City Hall on Thursday, March 31, Michael Mullaugh was nominated by his peers on City Council and appointed to the post without opposition, a notion that caught the councilman by surprise.

“I did not know this was going to happen,” he said. “But it did happen. It’s very nice.”

He succeeds Robert Weinroth, who served as the city’s deputy mayor for a year.

“Mr. Mullaugh has served on the Boca Raton City Council for seven years and has never had an opportunity to be the Deputy Mayor,” said Mayor Susan Haynie. “This will be his final year of service due to term limits. I felt it was important that he have the role of Deputy Mayor this last year.”

As he approaches his final term, Mullaugh intends to prioritize efforts to make Boca Raton’s waterfront better suited for recreational activities, and to prevent salt water from tainting the city’s drinking water supply.

Mullaugh began his time on City Council in December 2008, when he was appointed to fill the seat left vacated by former deputy mayor Peter Baronoff. He then ran in 2011 unopposed for a three year term, and won another term in the 2014 elections.

Prior to his appointment, Mullaugh worked at a division of Mellon Bank’s Trust Department. Upon his retirement, he became the president of Ruth Rales Jewish Family Service, which is a non-profit social services organization operating in southern Palm Beach County. He served as president until 2009.

In addition to his service on the Council, Mullagh is also a part of Palm Beach County’s Water Resources Task Force, the C51 Reservoir Governance and Finance Work Group, and the Florida League of Cities.

Williams earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Florida; a Master of Business Administration from the University of Florida; and a bachelor’s degree magna cum laude from Harvard University.

Williams succeeds Kimberly Gramm, who has taken the position of managing director of the Innovation Hub at Texas Tech University.

“Kim has been part of Tech Runway from the beginning, inspiring and leading the entrepreneurial efforts at the university,”

Flynn said. “She’s sure to be successful as she takes on new challenges, and we all wish her the best of luck in the next phase of her career.”

Under the purview of the FAU Division of Research, Tech Runway is a public-private partnership formed to foster technology start-up companies. Since its inception, FAU Tech Runway has supported 15 companies who have produced more than $3 million in total revenue. Florida Gov. Rick Scott recently approved the legislative budget request of $750,000 in funding for FAU Tech Runway in the 2016-17 state budget.

Editor’s note: Last week we ran this as a pull-out special to celebrate The Boca Raton Tribune’s 6th anniversary. Today we reprint this as a column for all who were unable to acquire one of the special edition issue.

For six years, The Boca Raton Tribune has been a staple in the Boca Raton community.

When we started back in 2010 as nothing more than a simple community blog putting out news to a city that greatly missed its local newspaper, we never expected to get to where we are today.

Yes, we wanted to be a strong voice in the community, we wanted to be relevant to the citizens, give them news that they would otherwise not get from the bigger papers, but we wanted to do all that with online. However, we quickly found that our readers were iching, begging for us to release a printed edition.

So we did.

On March of 2010, we released our Edition 0 of what, at the time, would be a monthly publication with news from the city and surrounding areas.

The buzz got bigger and bigger, and soon enough we began publishing every other week, until we decided that a weekly paper would be where we would stay.

We are very proud of everything we have accomplished in just six years.

We are proud of the interactions we receive from readers, and the feedback we always get when we are working on stories that affect your day-to-day life.

Although we understand that we will not always beat dailies when it comes to breaking news, we do know that we can beat them when it comes to the indepth coverage that only a community paper can do.

Community papers are the original social media. People love to grab our paper to see the latest news, but also to see their faces in the pictures, or their organizations in the print.

The Boca Raton Tribune is proud to be Boca Raton’s only true Community Newspaper. In the last three municipal elections, we were able to give the city our projections a day ahead of the

elections and be correct every step of the way, even when the candidate’s own polls said otherwise.

Last year we decided to cement our place in the community even further by creating The Boca Raton Tribune Candidate Forum, where over 100 residents filled the Wayne barton Study Center to hear the views of the three candidates running for City Council on a myriad of topics.

We have continuously shown support to our city and many organizations as we have been sponsors of some of the most important events in and around the city of Boca Raton, including, the Chris Evert Tennis Classic, Miami City Ballet, Boca Bacchanal, Boca Raton Food and Wine Festiva, Lynn University Music Series, Boca Raton Fine Art Festival, Boca Raton Green Market, Boca Raton Burger Battle, Let’s Move Boca Health and Wellness Fair, Boca Chamber Expos, OPAL, Pathway to the Stars, Boca Beach Bash, and many others.

In these past six years, we have also

won our share of awards by the Independent Free Papers of America (IFPA), and the Community Papers of Florida (CPF). In 2015 we were awarded the Advertising & Editorial Excellence for our advertisement campaign with European Wax. That same year, we won the Milton & Bernice Beckerman Community Service Award for our outstanding service to the community of Boca Raton by the Community Papers of Florida.

The City of Boca Raton has accepted us with wide open arms these last six years, and our hope is that in the next six year we continue to work as diligently as we did in our first six. It won’t be easy, there will be troubled times, but anything that is worth doing was never easy, if it was, everyone would be doing it.

Thank you Boca Raton for an amazing six years, and here’s to plenty of more anniversaires we will celebrate together.

Avoid Being Unnecessarily Contrary!

Have you ever experienced interactions with persons who love to contradict what you say? Especially in front of others that’s most annoying! No matter what the subject of your conversation may be, it appears they have to say No to your remarks, even if just to re-state exactly the same thing in their own words!

I have not only encountered that with a few people, but have also observed many more who have that ugly habit of interrupting, and making a big deal of whatever they think was a misstatement. One time I remember having heard that so much between two persons with whom I was

talking, that I almost shut them up, or left the room where the conversation was occurring.

It’s most unpleasant to hear individuals acting in that fashion. They seem to hold on to superficial details which they utilize to contradict a fellow communicator. Not only their opinions alone have any significance, according to them, but even the words used by another have to be terms they prefer, instead of the words being employed.

Obviously, it is proper for anyone to aim at accuracy in what is verbally conveyed during an interaction in which you participate.

But there is no need to insist that some-

thing described was in the afternoon rather than evening, that it occurred when it was raining or sunny, that it caused much laughing, or none at all!

What matters most is the legitimacy of the total story, not irrelevant details. Furthermore, those listening in to the narration need not have to put up with constant corrections of matters of no consequence to what is being described!

In such situations, very quickly personal interest is totally lost in what is being said amidst so many interruptions just to contradict the communicator. I could care less if it was on a Tuesday, at a restaurant

or Thursday at a coffee shop, at a casual encounter in a store, or a planned gathering at a different location. There’s no need to overemphasize these unnecessary details to the point of missing any benefit from the story as a whole.

People who do such things would insist on precision, accuracy, truth. Yet, most of what they would view as such do not alter the central elements of the narrative. If you have an urge to interrupt, be sure that it is for clarification of issues that are indispensable to what is being described, not valueless details which neither add nor subtract from the conversation!

Man Dies Following Altercation Near Boca Raton High School

A fight between a group of people that occurred in a neighborhood south of Boca Raton High School at 11 p.m. Wednesday, March 30 sent one man to the hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries.

Boca Raton police responded to a call from a woman at 1651 NW 13th Street, who said that she was with a man who met up a group at the area, and a few people in the group who knew each other started fighting, leaving multiple people injured.

One of the injured, Atila DeAraujo, 20, of Pompano Beach, was rushed to Broward Health North by a few of his friends.

By the time DeAraujo reached Broward North, he was proclaimed dead.

Records show that at the time of the altercation, DeAraujo was on probation for his involvement in a robbery which occurred in Boca Raton back in 2014.

While speaking with the Sun Sentinel, DeAraujo’s relatives said that he had attended Boca Raton High School and Fort Lauderdale High before dropping out.

DeAraujo had plans to get his G.E.D. and join the Navy, they said.

A memorial page for DeAraujo has been created on Facebook, and a candlelight vigil will be held tonight at 8 p.m. at 1551 NW 13th Street, near the area where the altercation he was involved in occurred.

In addition, a GoFundMe page with the intent of covering DeAraujo’s funeral expenses was created on Thursday, March 31 with an intended goal of $7,000. As of April 4, $5,755 have been raised.

Police have not charged anyone involved in the dispute, and are still investigating the incident.

Preston Parker, Former Atlantic Football Star, Facing Drug, Weapon Charges

By CRA News Service Preston Lenard Parker, the former Atlantic High School star wide receiver who went on to play for Florida State University and the NFL, was arrested after Boca Raton police said they found drugs and a gun during a traffic stop.

Parker, 29, of Delray Beach, was released from the Palm Beach County jail April 1 on a $15,000 bond. He was charged with cocaine possession, displaying a firearm during a felony and tampering with evidence.

According to the March 31arrest report, Parker ran a stop sign as he left the BP gas station, 5440 West Glades Road, in a black Chevrolet Impala shortly before 4 p.m.

An officer also noticed that the tint on the window appeared to be darker than the legal limit, according to the report.

As the officer tried to stop Parker, he continued driving while making movements toward the car’s center console and under the driver’s seat, police said.

Parker continued onto entrance ramp to Interstate 95 where he slowed down to 20 mph, then 5 mph before eventually stopping about three quarters of a mile from where the traffic stop began, according to the report.

The car was swerving back and forth between the pavement and the grass while traveling north on Interstate 95, the officer wrote.

Police said they found marijuana in a mason jar and white powder substance, later tested to be cocaine, in a small zippered bag and on the floorboard. Police also said they also found a loaded 9mm Glock under the driver’s seat.

Parker said he did not know the “white powder substance” was cocaine, according to the report.

This is not Parker’s first brush with the law.

In November 2006, Tallahassee police said he tried to steal a DVD. Police arrested him again in April 2008 after police found a concealed weapon and marijuana in his possession, state records show. After his third arrest in January 2009 on suspicion of driving under the influence, former head coach Bobby Bowden kicked him off the team the following month. Parker finished his collegiate career at Division II University of North Alabama.

He began his NFL career in 2010 and played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers until he was released in 2012. He spent the 2013 preseason with the New Orleans Saints, but he was cut prior to the start of the season.

The New York Giants signed Parker in 2014, but released him in early last season after playing just two games, several costly drops, and making five catches for 43 yards, according to published reports. He has not played since. During his career, Parker caught the ball 85 times for 1,054 yards and five touchdowns.

Love hurts. “Smoke” is a play that takes that sentiment literally.

Kim Davies has written a two-character play that centers on the danger and thrill of mutual attraction. “Smoke” runs through April 17 at Arts Garage, 94 N.E. Second Ave., Delray Beach.

It’s a good thing Kim Davies is female. If a guy wrote “Smoke” he would be called kinky at best; misogynist at worst. Julie (Connie Fernandez) and John (Clay Cartland) are two New York hipsters who are attending a “sex party” in Harlem. What?

You’ve never been to a sex party? Me neither, but the sex that occurs between these two consenting adults is mostly implied; not carried out.

Director Keith Garsson has a real find in Connie Fernandez, making her Arts Garage debut. To put it bluntly, this girl, who won her BFA from New World School of the Arts in 2014, is smoking hot. That befits her character, who flits about in a micro mini-skirt showing off beautiful gams.

Monday my travels took me to the recently opened Little Chalet for a Luxury Networking Chamer of Commerce party. A decent size crowd enjoyed hors deouvres and were treated to very expensive Revel Spirits tequila. This is a business networking group that meets at different venues each time.

Tuesday evening I attended a cocktail reception at FAU School of Engineering for the FAU Schlorship Foundation. There was a very large crowd in attendance. Speakers included, FAU President, John Kelly, Tim Snow, David Kian and FAU student Francis Jeunne who spoke of how he would never have been able to attend FAU if it were not for the generousity of the donors of FAU.

Clay Cartland, who so memorably portrayed a slug in “The Trouble with Doug” at Art Garage, brings equal part of sex and menace to his character of John. Let’s just say conventional sex does not interest John.

He likes danger, and inflicting pain.

If you are not into S&M, you won’t get what brings these two characters together.

I read “The Story of O” as a teenager, and I get it. That story too was written by a woman.

What does it all mean? Search me. Forewarned is forearmed. This show is not for everyone. With two actors as attractive as Fernandez and Cartland acting out these improbable fantasies, it is at the very least diverting, and director Garsson has the good sense to stage it quickly in 80 minutes, without intermission. “Chacon a son gout,” as they say in France.

A proposed condominium tower would rise nine stories downtown and span the length of two football fields. Called “Mizner 200,” the development proposed by Plantation-based developer Elad National Properties LLC would be along Southeast Mizner Boulevard, east of South Federal Highway and south of Southeast First Street.

Property owners along Boca Raton’s beach will be holding onto their land — at least for now. Commissioners of the Greater Boca Raton Beach and Park District decided that it would not be in the district’s best interest to spend taxpayer dollars on pockets of land along the city’s oceanfront.

Despite being waylaid by rough seas and equipment issues, crews are still shooting to complete sand-addition work on Boca’s beach by April 30. Crews began placing sand just south of Red Reef Park last week and are hoping to be at the South Beach Park pavilion in the next two weeks. Barring any further delays, the work will continue on a 24/7 basis until crews reach the Boca Raton Inlet. Sections of the beach will close for construction but will reopen as crews move south.

Elected officials have taken a major step forward on the path to building a safer, more accessible public boardwalk in Boca Raton. Commissioners of the Greater Boca Raton Beach and Park District decided to give an Okeechobee-based contractor nearly $582,000 to begin renovating a wellknown wooden passageway at the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center. S. Ocean Blvd. The

man-made, one-quarter-mile loop has been in place for the public since 1986. But because of unsafe walking conditions, a “Do Not Enter” sign and padlocks on the gates have barred access to the trail for more than a year. The goal of the renovations is to build a safer pathway, in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, which requires accessibility accommodations for people with disabilities.

Tri-County Animal Rescue on Boca Rio Road can move forward with expansion plans, now that Boca Raton City Council approved deeding a right-of-way over to Palm Beach County. “This was the final piece of the puzzle that has been resolved, and gives us the right-of-way to proceed with our capital campaign and our expansion,” said Sharon DiPietro, chairwoman of the board elected March 15. “It means we will have a state-of-the-art ancillary building, and we’ll be able to rescue so many more dogs and cats to give us a wonderful facility to do spaying and neutering and we are ready to start the capital campaign.”

Staples says the U.S. government failed to show that the company’s takeover of Office Depot should be blocked and urged a federal judge to dismiss an antitrust lawsuit seeking to scuttle the deal.

The popular ride-hailing services Uber and Lyft will not be subject to more extensive background checks under a new set of rules given initial approval by the Palm Beach County Commission. A temporary agreement is set to expire at the end of the month, but commissioners voted unanimously to establish new guidelines.

The wording of a proposed 1% sales tax increase has to go back to the Palm Beach County Commission for approval before voters will find it on the Nov. 8 election ballot. But what will the $712 million initiative really mean if voters pass it? For starters, there’s a 22-page Infrastructure Sales Tax Capital Projects list. Each district will have the cash to play catch-up on bridge replacements and modifications, road resurfacing and striping, traffic signals and street lighting, not to mention drainage. Also included are playground and sports lighting replacement; courts, parking lots and pathways resurfacing; aquatic facility repair and replacement; and restrooms and building replacements.

Do Your Homework First Watching a TV “reality” show called “Shark Tank,” in which five accomplished investors consider funding a number of innovative ventures, a young entrepreneur made a major strategic error. He failed to properly prepare for his presentation to gain their interest and support.

This prospective businessman boldly asked the five investors, who are called “Sharks” because that is a term sometimes used to describe aggressive and very perceptive business leaders, to invest $1 million in his innovative enterprise. This young man, however, had not done his homework. With a little research he would have realized that his request for funding was ridiculously high, especially since he had not yet made any sales and his product, although interesting in theory, was untested.

The aspiring entrepreneur also was clearly unprepared to answer basic questions from the “sharks,” which were typical of the show, not extremely complicated or tricky. In fact, these business people could have provided the resources to launch his business, but he failed to give them the information they asked of him. His lack of understanding of the entire process of developing and presenting a credible business plan caused him to leave the show emptyhanded and disappointed.

The Bible offers good advice for how to properly approach such a situation. Proverbs 3:13-14 teaches, “Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold.”

A wiser aspiring businessperson would have consulted with someone he or she knew that had experience and insight into

the how’s and what’s and why’s of starting a new venture. The person then could have taken that information, formulated a business plan, and asked the “mentor” to review it before making such a critical public presentation.

Perhaps you are not starting a new business.

This principle still applies whether you are seeking to persuade a potential customer to buy your products or services; trying to influence a client about a strategy you believe they should employ, or presenting a new concept or procedure to employees who are accustomed to doing things “the old way.” Before pitching your ideas to others, you should do your homework so that you understand what will be expected. Your results will be much better. Here are other biblical principles that relate to this process, regardless of who your audience might be: Address first things first. Sometimes our enthusiasm for a project causes us to get ahead of ourselves, failing to complete preliminary work that is essential for lasting success. “Finish your outdoor work and get your fields ready; after that build your house” (Proverbs 24:27).

Anchor preparations in prayer. While doing the necessary “homework” and seeking wise counsel on how to proceed, it is also wise to pray, asking God to direct each step along the way. “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed” (Proverbs 16:3).

Trust in God for the outcome. If we are properly prepared, then we rightfully can trust God for the decision that is ultimately made. “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases” (Proverbs 21:1).

FAU Presents High School Art and Poetry Exhibition Titled “Soiled Again” Florida Atlantic University’s University Galleries in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters will present works by high school students from Boynton Beach High School and Dreyfoos School of the Arts in the exhibition “Soiled Again.” The show will run from Friday, April 15 to Friday, April 22. An opening reception will take place on Friday, April 15, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Schmidt Center Gallery Public Space, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. Both the reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.

The Museum Education Program of the University Galleries has developed partnerships with Boynton Beach High School, through their visual arts teacher Gwenn Seuling, and Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach with English teacher Carly Gates.

Their students will present original art works and writings inspired by their field experience at FAU in January during the University Galleries’ recent exhibition “DIRT: Yuta Suelo Udongo Tè.” This was a group exhibition curated by artist Onajide Shabaka featuring many South Florida artists. The exhibition title refers to the different ways that diverse cultures interpret dirt, not only physically, but also spiritually and symbolically. The exhibition included site-specific installations, sculpture, photography, paintings, drawings and mixed-media works.

Since 2005, the Museum Education Program has been recognized by the School District of Palm Beach County as an approved field experience provider. Each academic year, the program produces lesson

plans and teaching activities that contain a variety of approaches and cross-disciplinary content that allow teachers to plan trips to the University Galleries’ exhibitions.

FAU students trained in educational theories within museums practices lead the tours of the selected exhibitions. At the core of these field experiences is arts integration, an approach to teaching that engages a student to connect the creative process or art form with another subject area in order to gain a deeper understanding of both.

The high school exhibition demonstrates the students’ creative approach to multiple disciplines and supports the University Galleries’ role as a dynamic extension of the classroom in providing arts education to the Palm Beach School District and its community.

“This is an experience that can’t be replicated in the classroom,” Gates said. “To be able to go beyond the assignment to share what you’ve created with the community is incredible. Our students feel like real artists and writers.”

Museum Education programs are made possible by the Kaye Endowment for Arts Integration and the Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties.

The University Galleries at FAU are open to the public Tuesdays through Fridays, from 1 to 4 p.m. and Saturdays, from 1 to 5 p.m.

sports FAU Soccer Hosts Kids Soccer Camps

Driving past the FAU Campus during Palm Beach County’s Spring break, one would see boys and girls running around with a soccer ball at their feet.

FAU’s very own Men’s Soccer Head Coach Kos, had a vision to open soccer camps for when kids were out of school, to enhance and mold the soccer players of tomorrow.

And since 2000, that’s exactly what has happened.

This past spring break, even through the muggy weather, kids were out at the FAU fields, playing soccer.

On the Camp staff with Coach Kos, are the other coaches from the FAU Men’s Soccer team to help him in training the different age groups.

The usual camp day begins at 8:30 a.m when parents begin to drop off their kids.

At 9 a.m., when most kids have already arrived, the kids are divided into separate age groups, where they begin to train technique, agility, speed and coordination. For the second hour they play small soccer games, so that the kids can practice the techniques that they have been learning.

At 11 a.m. the kids go to lunch at the FAU Cafeteria and later go to the FAU pool for a

cool down before they go back to the fields to play once again until 3 p.m.

For the soccer camp to be so successful throughout the years Coach Kos shared his motto. “First safety is very important, also the kids have to have fun, and lastly it’s very important to have the kids at the end of the day stop and say ‘ I learned something today’ and that is very important.”

Coach Kos says that what he enjoys the most is “seeing the kids and their parents have a positive experience and also watching theses kids progress as soccer players.”

Goal to Goal Soccer camps, are available during Spring, Summer and Winter Break for boys between the age of 5 to 14. And for girls between the same age range, the FAU Soccer Academy camp is also available by FAU Women’s Soccer Head Coach, Coach Baker, during the same times.

For the near future, Coach Kos is hopeful to starting one day camps on school holidays, catering to working parents who can’t take the day off.

Boca Wrestler Wins State Championship By: Stephanie Fonseca

Chase Thompson, from Loggers’ Run Middle School, was just a regular seventh grader who loved to wrestle.

But as January came around, an unfortunate event during practice left Thompson with a fracture patella and several strained ligaments. But Thompson, knowing that the State Championships were coming soon, concentrated on getting better, so that he could compete.

Thompson underwent physical therapy and cryotherapy to get himself ready for the USA Wrestling Florida Amature Athletic Assocoation State Championship.

Enrolled in his respective division called “Schoolboy,” the 190 lbs weight class.

However, when Thompson was the only one enrolled in the weight class he was moved up to the 195 lbs weight class.

Being the only 7th grader in a 9th and 10th grade division, Thompson was the David facing many Goliaths.
