FAU’s Research Park Celebrates Productive Year During 30 Year Anniversary

Florida Atlantic University’s Research and Development Authority celebrated 30 years last year, and as their recently released annual report suggests, that wasn’t the only reason to celebrate.

According to the report, the companies of the Research Park and startups of the Technology Business Incubator (TBI) accumulated $849 million for the regional economy in 2015.

In addition, over $53.5 million in private investment capital was raised, which is 8.4% higher than the previous year. Of the $53.5 million raised in private investment capital, $8 million of it came from the startups based out of the TBI, while $45.5 million of it came from the companies at

Community FAU’s Research Park Celebrates Productive Year During 30 Year Anniversary

It was also a productive year, in terms of research. The Patent and Trademark office awarded 27 new patents to tenants in the Research Park and TBI, while 33 applications for new ones have been filed. This brings the total of patents held by companies and startups in the Park to 615; an 8% increase from 2014.

145 graduates from FAU became employees at companies in Research Park and startups at the TBI last year, which is a 29% increase from 2014.

In addition, 112 currently enrolled students were interning at the Park and TBI last year, and according to the report, both are expected to bring in 345 new employees, meaning student interns at Research Park and the TBI have a very good chance of getting moved to paid positions upon graduation.

The average salary at companies at Research Park and startups at the TBI last year was $70,506, more than double the average salary in the nation (according to data from 2013).

According to the data from the report, the vast majority of companies based out of Research Park specialize in healthcare, with 47.37% of tenants being healthcare or healthcare IT companies.

These companies were the second biggest employer in the complex, with 39% of jobs being in the healthcare sector. The largest amount of jobs in Research Park came from professional service companies, with 40% of employees at the Park working at these companies.

Of the 20 startups located at the TBI, two of them, Dioxide Materials and Be Power Tech, graduated to Research Park, and one of them, Modti, grew in size and moved to a larger space in Jupiter.

Two Research Park companies, Mobile Help, which specializes in cellular tracking devices for medical and emergency applications, and Modernizing Medicine, a medical records company, made it to Deloitte’s 2015 Technology Fast 500 (Modernizing Medicine were named the 57th fastest growing company in North America, while Mobile Help were named the 90th), and Inc. 500’s list (Mobile Help were included for their second consecutive year, while Modernizing Medicine debuted at #311).

In addition, Mobile Help’s CIO, Jean Robichaud, was named South Florida Business Journal’s CIO of the Year, while Modernizing Medicine’s CEO and co-founder, Dan Cane, was named EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2015.

Robichaud and Cane weren’t the only executives from Research Park to be honored in 2015, though. Andrew Burki, the CEO of Research Park-based Life of Purpose, a research company dedicated to substance abuse treatment, was named the Association of Recovery School’s Recovery Philanthropist of the Year.

The report also states that FAU’s Research and Development Authority reached agreements with the governments of both Palm Beach County and the City of Boca Raton to provide funds for research and development conducted by tenants at Research Park and the TBI.

Rotary Club Boca Raton Sunrise Awards Essay Winners

The Dictionary Project began in 1992 when Annie Plummer of Savannah, Georgia, gave 50 dictionaries to children who attended a school close to her home.Since its, over 18 million children have received dictionaries because thousands of people saw the same need in communities all over the United States. Rotary Clubs around the United States adopted the program and the District 6930 is one of those districts that encourage clubs to engage in this idea.

The six Rotary Clubs in Boca Raton, deliver the dictionaries for 3rd grade schools. Each one of this clubs added their one flavor in their projects.

In 2012, Anglica Blackle, from the Rotary Club Boca Raton West, had an idea that was immediately approved by club president Marcos Dombrowski and his board: Have a Essay Contest. Since than this has been growing tremendously and this year the winner of the project with a huge party at South County park as showed in the 262nd edition of The Boca Raton Tribune.

This year, another local Rotary Club decided to follow Mrs Blackley idea.

On February 24th the Rotary Club of Boca Raton Sunrise held its first Essay contest awards dinner on at the downtown Boca

Public Library. Each Rotary Club in Boca Raton is assigned for couple schools and the Rotary Club Boca Raton Sunrise distributes dictionaries to 3rd grade students attending Hammock Pointe, Sandpiper Shores and Whispering Pines elementary schools. This year they included the essay contest with the question being, “if you had a superpower, what would it be and how would you use it to be a gift to the world”.

They received over 300 essay and 21 students were selected Each student was recognized with a credential and certificate with one winner from each school winning a Kindle for the grand prize. The teacher of the winning student received a $100 office depot gift card as well.

Over 100 people attended as students, parents, teachers and Rotarians enjoyed hot dogs, chicken tenders, mac n cheese and cookies for dessert catered by City-Eatz located in the Festival Flea market in Pompano Beach. During the festive meal videos were shown to educate parents and students alike about Rotary’s international reach and contribution to improve lives around the globe. Catering To Your Interests We Will Remain Steadfast to Practicing Sound Journalism The cake, champagne and balloons are long gone; still we here at the Boca Raton Tribune are still celebrating our sixth anniversary as your premiere source of community news.

That’s because six years is a long time in today’s complex world of newspapers where it is not unusual for new publications to do a quick belly-up after only a few issues on the newsstands. That we have withstood those odds alone is reason to celebrate.

When we launched the Boca Raton Tribune in March 2010, we did so because there was a void in the community.

We responded to the cries and appeals of our residents who wanted a more consistent source of local news. After all, both the local dailies had given up on our city and the television stations only

came down when there was major news.

We responded with a monthly missive, which incorporated the established values of traditional journalism - a commitment to journalism that places a high premium on tenacity, fairness and balance in the presentation of news and news commentary.

We then went to bi-weekly then weekly.

We made a courageous yet risky entry into the newspaper market at a time when both our local dailies were seeing a dip in profitability and laying off journalists, and surveys on top of surveys showed a decline in the general readership of newspapers.

I recall hearing fellow journalists question how long could the paper last given the few advertisements that dotted the pages.

In the more than 260 editions published in the last six years, the Tribune has ex-

perienced both the depths of economic hardship and a legacy of good times, admirable achievements and hard-working and dedicated people.

In fact, every day our staff strives to bring the most relevant news to our readers in the most efficient way possible. I would be remiss if I did not point out that the bulk of our staff are student interns who tackle each story with the professionalism and true grit as any seasoned journalist.

It is so heartwarming to see the remarkable growth of this paper from its embryotic stage under the leadership of visionary publisher Douglas Heizer and Dale King, the founding editor and longtime newsman for the now defunct Boca Raton News.

On this our anniversary, we extend our sincere gratitude to our advertisers, readers, printer and our vendors and

encourage your continued support for our development and growth in years to come. We are particularly appealing to corporate institutions and businesses to advertise in the Boca Raton Tribune as a way to help sustain our local print media industry.

We will remain sensitive to the diverse interests of our readers and keep up with changing and uncertain times.

We also will continue to embrace the best traditions of quality journalism, steadfast to the values on which it was founded six years ago.

Be assured that we will continue faithfully to report the news of this city, to analyze and comment on their significance, and to express our own judgement without subservience to narrow partisan or sectional interests. While we celebrate the past, we will be very focused on the future.

Practicing Hospitality!

I feel most fortunate for having been reared at a home where hospitality was a common occurrence. Some people were specifically invited guests, while others would sometimes stop by, unannounced. All of these left a part of themselves behind, which continued to enrich my family with the memory of their visit or longer stay. Until today I can still recall the presence, and the conversations of several very special persons!

This activity continually retains a great value to its practitioners; yet, those who don’t observe it shall greatly miss pleasant surprises, albeit never knowing it.

People gain far more from face to face encounters with fellow humans than from what they would extract from a

cell phone, or other impersonal devices which abound and dominate in contemporary society.

True hospitality is best expressed not so much by food and entertainment you may offer to guests, but by who you are before, during, and after the personal welcome extended to them. Ultimately, real hospitality is primarily concerned with the guest rather than the host’s self-serving interests. It’s a good sign when a host asks more about the guests than just talks about her own self!

Regrettably, there are several people on the vanguard of hospitality, not for the guest’s sake necessarily, but one’s own instead!

Through the years I’ve consistently noticed the incessant babble of cer-

tain hostesses, hardly allowing guests a chance to speak, or participate in a broad conversation. Instead of just giving answers to questions nobody is asking, or even cares to hear, a host should be seeking legitimate information from a guest, or guests!

When you entertain someone, make that person your primary focus rather than your own self, or anybody else who is also part of the welcoming team. A hospitable person understands her primary task as that of moderator of pleasant interactions with a guest, rather than acting as the dominant participant. Don’t hijack a conversation to change it into what you, as host, prefer to deal with!

Those who would offer hospitality

should listen more and talk less, especially about one’s self. Learn to inquire more about your guest who is the primary object of your hospitality. In so doing, be judicious in your questions to a guest, avoiding unpleasant words, subjects, or embarrassing questions. Be always truthful, yet not in a confrontational way!

Ultimately, hospitality is best shown by focusing on the preferences of the guests rather than forcing your own agenda on them. Make hospitality a way of life, away from home just as much as when you are there! Make of your life a hospitality center, always open!

Boca Resident Wins 7 Mile Race Over the Keys Longest Bridge

For the third consecutive year Josh Peterson clenched the overall men’s title when he finished first in the 35th annual Seven Mile Bridge Run in Key West on Saturday.

Peterson, 23, of Boca Raton, ran across the convergence of the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico in 38 minutes, 57 seconds.

The footrace closed the span between the Middle and Lower Keys for just over two hours.

From the start, Peterson stayed with the pack but broke away and kept his pace for the last two miles.

“I was just running to win,” said the recent Florida Atlantic University graduate and former athlete also helped coach at the university. “This year I was a little worried as you never know who is going to get in.”

Michael Stone, 36, of Fort Lauderdale was

second in the men’s division with a time of 39:27. Placing third at 39:38 was Ryan Vanorman, 16, of Rockford, Mich.

Fernandina Beach resident Laura DiBella, 37, finished first in the women’s division at 43:00. This also was her third consecutive overall women’s division title. Morgan Hull, 20, an engineering student in Gainesville, placed second in the women’s division at 43:19. Race veteran Helena Bursa, 40, of Big Pine Key came in third at 43:51.

Registering for the event was a race against the clock. All 1,500 spots filled 20 minutes after online registration went live, organizers said.

The annual event attracted 1,500 runners who ran over the longest of 42 bridges over water that help comprise the Florida Keys Overseas Highway.

The race began in 1982 to help herald the completion of the then-new Seven Mile Bridge, a federally funded construction program that built 37 new bridges in the Keys.

Peterson returned home with the grand prize of a two-night stay at the oceanfront Hawks Cay Resort, which is on the island of Duck Key, and a serving dish.

With three titles under his belt, he already is looking forward to next year’s race.

“I’ll be there for sure,” said Peterson who also snagged the top prize in the 2016 Race for the Cure men’s division with a top overall time of 16 minutes, 57.14 seconds. “It’s a fun weekend for my family. We enjoy going down there and having a good time.”

Bill Hager Considered For Insurance Commissioner

The City of Boca Raton’s state representative could soon find himself as the state’s new insurance commissioner.

The incumbent, Kevin McCarty, who served as the state’s insurance commissioner for 13 years, announced his resignation in January, which would be effective on May 2.

Bill Hager (R), who represents District 89-- which the City of Boca Raton is a part of-- in the Florida House, was one of 55 applicants for the position, which pays a salary of nearly $200,000 a year.

Prior to his election to the House in 2010, Hager served as Iowa’s insurance commissioner from 1986 to 1990. Hager was elected to the Boca Raton City Council in 2002, and served as a member until 2009.

He is also a member of the Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce, and previously served as the board’s chairman.

During his time on the City Council, Hager served as Deputy Mayor, which he was appointed to in 2004, and served until the next year.

In addition, Hager formed the Boca Raton-based firm Insurance Metrics Corporation in 2000, where he continues to serve as president.

On Tuesday, March 22, Attorney General Pam Bondi recommended that Hager be considered for a public interview at the

Cabinet Meeting on Tuesday, March 29.

The short list of candidates who will interviewed at the Cabinet Meeting was unveiled by Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater later that week on Thursday. Of the 55 applicants for the position, only two made it onto the short list, with Hager being one of them.

The other candidate who will be interviewed at the hearing is Jeffrey Bragg of Palm Harbor, who was recommended for the interview from Gov. Rick Scott’s office.

Bragg served as the administrator for FEMA’s national flood insurance program during the Reagan administration, and was the first director of the U.S. Treasury’s Terrorism Risk Insurance Program, which he served on from 2003 until 2014.

He also worked for Saint Petersburg-based firm Insurance Management Solutions Group, where he was executive vice-president from 1997 until 2000. Bragg was later employed at Zurich Risk Management, which he was senior vice president of from 2001 to 2003.

Following the interviews, the cabinet decide on who will ultimately succeed McCarty; a decision which is predicted to be made during the next meeting.

“Dirty Dancing” the Musical at Broward Center

The phenomenon that was the 1987 movie “Dirty Dancing” is now a stage musical coming to Broward Center for the Arts Tuesday, April 12 for an engagement through April 24.

Produced on a miniscule budget and shot in North Carolina, much cheaper than New York, “Dirty Dancing” was thought to be a direct-to-video movie. Surprise, the movie was a big hit thanks to the charisma of dancer-actor Patrick Swayze and his co-star Jennifer Grey, daughter of Broadway legend Joel Grey. Swayze became a star overnight and “Dirty Dancing” became the first movie to sell 1 million videos.

On Easter Sunday, my travels took me to the Kravis Center for Woody Allen’s show, “Bullets over Broadway”. It was a fantastic and fun performance, great singing, comedy and dancing. I highly recommend seeing it the next time it comes around. I ran into my old friend, Amy Hair who is the sign language interpreter for the Kravis Center.

• As a result of the Spanish River/I-95 Interchange Project, on Monday, April 11 and Tuesday, April 12 from 11pm - 5am, I-95’s mainline will undergo a vehicle “pacing” operation due to the relocation of the overhead powerlines by FPL. During this vehicle pacing period, Florida Highway Patrol will reduce vehicular speeds to about 5-10 mph. The pacing operation extends from about Sample Road to Clint Moore Road and drivers should expect delays on the mainline and at the on-ramps during this operation. Then, on Sunday, May 1st until Thursday May 5th, FDOT will be demolishing the old Spanish River Boulevard bridge over the expressway. I-95 Southbound will undergo a full mainline closure nightly from midnight until 5AM. The FDOT approved detour route is I-95 exit Yamato Road west to Military Trail south to Palmetto Park Road and east to the expressway. Due to the volume of detour traffic, expect delays on these facilities during this operation; and Furthermore, from Sunday, May 8th - Thursday, May 12th, I- 95 Northbound will undergo a full mainline closure, nightly, midnight until 5AM as FDOT will continue to demolish the old Spanish River Boulevard Bridge. The FDOT approved detour route is I-95 exit Palmetto Park Road west to Military Trail north to Yamato Road and east to the expressway.

• A new rule may soon take effect for businesses in Boca Raton. The city’s mayor proposed a law that would require each business in the city that sells or dispenses alcohol to clearly display at least one sign about underage drinking laws. “I think

any effort to curtail underage drinking is a positive,” Boca Mayor Susan Haynie said.

Haynie said she pushed for the proposal after she was approached by Teen Coalition in Action, the youth division of Palm Beach County Substance Awareness Coalition.

• Congratulations to Dr. Kevin Wagner, newly elected president of the Florida Atlantic University Faculty Senate. The University Faculty Senate is a governance body concerned with matters of general university educational policy, including curriculum, academic calendar and schedule, admissions, registration, and degree programs.

It may also consider and provide advice to the President and others on university-wide issues of general faculty concern, including university budgeting and planning and any organizational changes or policies affecting more than one campus, college, or division.

• Palm Beach County taxpayers ended up paying much of the bill for Donald Trump’s March 13 presidential campaign rally in West Boca. The Palm Beach County Sheriff ’s Office estimates that it cost about $21,000 more than Trump’s campaign paid in local event fees to provide security for the would-be Republican Party presidential nominee. The additional costs came from the Sheriff ’s Office providing a beefed-up presence — in addition to the U.S. Secret Service and Trump’s private security — to watch over about 6,000 people estimated to have filled the Sunset Cove Amphitheater at Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park. Trump’s West Boca visit came just two days after security concerns led to him canceling a campaign rally in Chicago, where fights broke out between protesters and his supporters.

• An initial letter asking for permanent restrooms and new bleachers at soccer fields used by Florida Atlantic University and district sport leagues got a positive response from the Greater Boca Raton Beach & Park District. Knowing two fields used jointly at FAU’s A.D. Henderson University School would be lost to a campus expansion, commissioners for the taxing authority warmed to the March 16 request by FAU director of athletics Patrick Chun. The district is funded by taxes and elected commissioners decide how the money is spent for parks, beaches and recreation. In the letter, Chun asked chairman Robert K. Rollins Jr. if the district would consider constructing a restroom at the Tom Oxley Athletics Center that now uses portable toilets.

The Purpose Of Business In 1968, at the start of a class on financial management at Kansas State University, my professor entered the room and wrote on the board, “The purpose of every business organization is to increase the wealth of the owners.” This statement appeared on every exam. Owners of a publicly traded corporation are the stockholders, the professor explained, so the purpose of a publicly traded corporation is to increase the value of stocks or dividends to benefit them.

This assertion did not ring true for me, however, because I knew a lot of business owners and few of them were in business solely to increase wealth. Most of them worked to achieve a desired standard of living or to use a specific skill. Like my classmates, I had grown up in the “superficial 50’s,” an era that was emotionally stunted in the wake of the Great Depression and World War II. During those years few people were ready for soul-searching about their “purpose”; but by 1968 a revolution was underway. People my age wanted to do something important, something with significance beyond themselves.

I started my first business in 1973 to solve a specific problem – creating high-quality black-and-white photos. I have spent the rest of life developing other skills to help others. For a number of years I had employees, so another purpose was to provide jobs and empower them to help our customers. Contrary to the professor’s declaration, increasing wealth has never been my priority or purpose in business.

There remain corporations whose purpose is to “increase the wealth of the owners,” but many like that exist only in history books today. Some of their executives have served time in prison for ethical and criminal violations. The idea of “sharehold-

ers” has been replaced with “stakeholders” – shareholders, employees, clients, creditors, and anyone else with a vested interest in the organization. I would hope colleges have stopped trying to convince students that the only purpose of a business is to increase stock value, but it would be hard to know that based on some of the disastrous decisions being made.

When I speak to entrepreneurial students, I emphasize most successful businesses start with a skilled person having a sincere desire to serve others. Many passages of the Bible advise that for those who follow Jesus Christ, this should be a primary purpose.

For example: Serving, rather than being served. Many in ownership and top executive roles may act as if others are there to serve them, but Jesus – God in the flesh – did not hold that attitude at all. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).

Resolving to put others first. If we determine to focus on the needs and interests of others, we will receive a good return not only financially but also in good reputation.

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others” (Philippians 2:3-4).

Reaping everlasting dividends. Concentrating only on wealth and profits reflects short-term thinking. It fails to consider the long-term health of the organization – or the eternal benefits gained by focusing on others. “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?”

(Mark 8:36).

Local Education Reformers Closer to Snagging $10 million Super School Grant

A team of local change agents interested in redesigning how high school is taught in South Florida learned recently that their proposal cleared another hurdle and is closer to winning a $10 million grant to help them implement their idea.

“That is great news,” Keisha Harrington, a teacher in West Palm Beach and a member of the team, said on Friday upon learning they would be advancing to the third round of the project. “While this was indeed a huge feat, it has proven to be more than a challenge to create innovative high schools.

“For us, this has become a growing movement to reimagine what is possible for public education in America. It also has created a vocal hub for community voices, cutting edge ideas, and expert resources to make real change possible.”

The XQ: The Super School Project, a national competition started Sept. 11, 2015

by Laurene Powell Jobs, widow of Apple founder/CEO Steve Jobs, to reinvent the public education system, which she says is broken.

“It’s not that it [the public education system] was badly designed in 1906, it was really a breakthrough design for its time,” Powell Jobs said. “Now that we’re out of the industrial era, there’s been no substantial systemic change in the way we do high school. What we’re seeing is the manifestation of…bad design.”

By the February 2016 deadline, 700 teams from all 50 states, including Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico, submitted applications with 10,000 ideas, organizers said.

C. Ron Allen, founder and president of a local mentoring program and a leader in the

effort, started a team and took up the challenge seven months ago.

Their proposal, which now will be included in a pool of 40 schools, will be about how they plan to organize, fund and support their new curriculum.

If they win that round, which has a May 23 submission date, then they will be part of a five-school group that will receive the $10 million grant to help them implement their idea. The five winning teams are expected to be selected in August and the grants will be awarded over the next five years.

This summer, Powell Jobs and others from the XQ Institute will travel across the country with a tricked-out old school bus, the interior of which has been rebuilt as a futuristic classroom. They plan to make 30 different stops, including at the Republican and Democratic national conventions. At each place, they will have pop-up concerts, teach-ins, exhibits and more.

The potential school, known as The Visioneering Center for Global Innovation and Communication, would address a desire for alternative high school options and better prepare students for the 21st century, Allen said.

“We want to make sure that every child in South Florida has access to great teachers,” said Allen also president of CRA Media Group and editor of the Boca Raton Tribune. “Now this does not necessarily mean that the teacher will stand in front of the classroom as we do in our postmodern information age. Thanks to technology, there are new and perhaps better ways of teaching and learning and we will reach these students.”

sports West Boca Boys Lacrosse Bid Adieu to 17 Seniors

At the end of every season, high school sports teams say goodbye to their seniors as they graduate and they decide where they will be taking their talents.

West Boca High School’s boy’s lacrosse team had their last home game against Palm Beach Central under torrential rain.

Although the weather conditions were not favorable, the West Boca Bulls came out on top with a 17 to 10 win.

But with so much of their team leaving, senior night had a lot of student athletes to recognize for their dedication and impact on the team.

Seventeen seniors in total were recognized on senior night.

Every year, The sports seasons come to an end. And with each season, each team has to say goodbye to their seniors.

At West Boca High School, the girl’s lacrosse team honored their seniors at their last home game, as they get ready for the district playoffs in the coming weeks.

The Lady Bulls started off strong opening up the game 4 to zero, but as the game played on the ladies lost momentum and ended up losing by two to Wellington High.

But all eyes remained on honoring the seniors who left their mark on the team and their teammates.

West Boca High honored their five seniors.

The first honored senior was Sydney River, who dedicated two years to the lady’s

The North American Bridge Championship(NABC) are held three times a year by the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL). The ACBL is the largest bridge organization and playing the spring games was Boca Raton native, Stan Tulin.

Tulin played in the Lebhar IMP (International Match Points) Pairs, a four session event that begins with two qualifying sessions and ends with two final sessions.

lacrosse team and is still deciding where to attend in the fall, but her options are Penn State, FSU and University of Tampa.

Senior and Captain, Lindsey Rock, played varsity lacrosse for three years and will be attending FSU in the Fall.

Marissa Barber played for the ladies lacrosse team for three years and will stay local and attend Palm Beach State College.

Also honored was Ashley McKnight and Rihanna Miller.

West Boca High Girls Lacrosse, Coach Eli, had only praises for his senior girls, “they are a great group of girls and they are true team players. They always work hard and set good examples of how to be true student athletes.”

None of the seniors will continue playing lacrosse competitively in college.

Boca Native Claims Spring North American Bridge Championship

All District for the 2015 season.

And the last senior recognized as an outstanding player is four year varsity player and goalie with 197 saves this season, Tyler DeVita. Devita also won 2nd Team All District and Honorable Mention All-Region for the 2015 season.

As the West Boca Bulls lacrosse team bids adieu to their seniors, the underclassmen will carry the torch and step up to fill in their shoes

The Bulls also have their most outstanding players which include four seniors who have been also recognized by the County for their excellence in the sport.

Of the four Ryan Mobley, who plays the position of Long Stick Middie (LSM), has been on the varsity lacrosse team all four years of high school. As a middie his stats include 201 ground balls, 5 goals & 5 assists along with winning 1st Team All District and 1st Team All Region for the 2015 Season.

West Boca High Honor Seniors on the Girls Lacrosse Team

Another Middie that was recognized on senior night was Grant Telford, also played varsity lacrosse all four years and this year has scored 62 goals, has 16 assists & 57 ground balls. Telford also made 1st Team All District and 1st Team All Region with Mobly for the 2015 season.

The third senior recognized as an outstanding player was Steve Santoro, an attacker who also played all four years and this year has 52 assists, 37 goals & 48 ground balls so far this season. Santoro also won 2nd Team

Playing alongside his partner Kevin Dywer, from Melbourne, Florida, in the Championship games held in Reno, Nevada.

Tulin and Dywer were able to claim victory and take home the Lebhar Trophy. For Tulin it was his second time claiming the first-place NABC title.

The NABC’s are held across the U.S. and Canada, bringing bridge players together from across the continent. This summer the NABC’s will be held in Washington, D.C., at the end of July.
