Welcome
Welcome to The PediaMag Welcome to another edition of The PediaMag! Our first edition, published in January 2018, was a hit, and we owe that to you, our readers, patients, and families. In these dog days of summer, we hope that you are remembering to take care of your skin and avoid harmful sun damage. In the words of Dr. Ned Ketyer, editor of The PediaBlog, “Protecting skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays and from indoor tanning beds is the mainstay of prevention according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Follow these easy options: stay in the shade, especially during midday hours, wear clothing that covers your arms and legs, wear sunglasses that block both UVA and UVB rays, Use sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher and both UVA and UVB (broad spectrum) protection, and avoid indoor tanning.” Of course, if you are staying indoors, how better to pass the time than enjoying this second issue of The PediaMag? As always, your feedback and comments are welcome. Simply email us at PediaMag@pediatricalliance.com.

Events
Babies & Bumps An event designed to help mothers feel confident about navigating pregnancy, labor & delivery, having an infant, and becoming a mother. The goal is to connect new & soon-to-be parents to organizations and resources that support their growing families. Pediatric Alliance North Hills Cranberry Division joined with many other organizations in the area to participate in a Babies and Bumps event in the North Hills in April, 2018. Dr. Bruce Hyde and office manager Christina Dorko had the opportunity to speak to and help new and expectant parents in the area and to see them again as they came to the North Hills Cranberry office for their new bundle’s primary medical care.
City Moms Blog Network

Nutrition 4 Kids
By Jennifer Yoon RDN/LDN
Dinner Hacks for Busy Families squash, sweet peppers, zucchini, cauliflower, broccoli, and others can easily be added to a plate raw or added to salads. Cut up veggies can be added to pasta in the last 5 minutes or so of boiling, add diced precooked meat, sprinkle some cheese, and you have an easy one pot dinner. Frozen stir fry meal kits are a life saver. • Baked potatoes can be thrown in the microwave and ready in 5-10 minutes. Add cheese, small cut broccoli and serve with sliced ham. • Pre-make a large container of pasta to serve as a side. Mix with some veggies, cut meat, and some dressing for a quick pasta salad. I often hear from families during nutrition counseling, “We eat healthy dinners most of the time, except when we have activities.” A stop at the Drive-Thru occasionally can certainly be part of an overall healthy diet. However, in most cases, those busy nights add up and result in fast food or pizza delivery more often than we would like. In most cases, even a quick, thrown-together dinner or reheated frozen meal is going to be healthier and more cost effective than the Drive Thru. For busy nights, try some of these Dinner Hacks for Busy Families: • Keep meal staples on hand: rice (boil in bag, microwave and frozen varieties are available), pasta, and spaghetti sauce. • Have some frozen or refrigerated prepared meats: grilled chicken strips, sliced ham, meat loaf, meat balls, turkey breast, rotisserie chicken. Canned meats such as chicken or tuna, or canned beans can be added to rice or noodles to create simple skillet dinners. Next time you cook a large cut of meat, make extra and then slice and freeze for later.
• Who says you have to cook? A healthy plate (see MyPlate.gov) contains a grain, protein, fruit, and veggie, with a dairy on the side. Represent each and be done, for example: • Crackers or pita bread, hummus, raw veggies and fruit with yogurt. • Grilled cheese with tomato or veggie soup, carrot slices, apples, and milk • Turkey sandwich, baked chips, celery sticks, fruit cup, and milk. • Don’t order pizza, make it! Add sauce, cheese, and selected toppings to English muffins, deli rounds, or bagels. Everyone can build their own! • Breakfast for dinner is a favorite at my house: Toast or English Muffins, eggs or an omelet, fruits, and salad or veggies. • Instant Pots and Slow Cookers are also great time savers. With some advanced planning and time at the grocery store, your busy night meal woes can be solved.
• Pre-prep veggies and fruits, and stock up on frozen and canned varieties. Wash and cut lettuce for salad or buy bagged varieties. Steam-in-bag veggies could not be easier and often have a light sauce for a tasty side dish. Cut carrots, celery, cucumbers,

North Hills Relocation
Brian W. Donnelly, MD and Bruce Hyde, MD
North Hills Division’s consolidation Big changes came to Pediatric Alliance North Hills Division this spring. In late March, our North Hills Division consolidated their two offices and closed the Passavant location. We changed the name of the North Hills Division to the North Hills Cranberry Division, and Dr. Bruce Hyde and Dr. Brian W. Donnelly continue to see patients at our Cranberry location at 201 Smith Drive, Suite B, Cranberry Township, PA 16066. Every attempt was made to make this transition as smooth and seamless as possible. All records from the Passavant office were made available in the Cranberry office so that no transfers would be necessary in order to continue seeing Drs. Hyde and Donnelly at Cranberry. While we would love to see all of our Passavant families move to our Cranberry office, we do understand that Cranberry may not be a convenient location for some. If that is the case, please visit our website at www.pediatricalliance.com to see our other locations in the North Hills. We are also pleased to announce that in addition to continuing to care for our North Hills Cranberry Division patients, Drs. Donnelly and Hyde will also begin providing services at our Regional Office
Division Wexford location in the Health + Wellness Pavilion at 12311 Perry Highway, Suite D, Wexford, PA 15090. These changes will allow you to see the same pediatricians you have seen for years, but at the most convenient location for you. It is important to know that patients who choose to see Drs. Donnelly and Hyde at the Wexford Health + Wellness Pavilion will essentially be transferring to a new practice. As a reminder, if your insurance carrier requires you to select a PCP, you will need to notify them of the physician’s new location. The North Hills Cranberry Division continues to accept ALL insurances, but please be aware that the Pediatric Alliance Wexford location accepts all insurances with the exception of UPMC. We look forward to continuing a long and happy relationship with you and your family. Sincerely, Brian W. Family
Home Is Where The Heart Is The Loboda’s worked with the Pennsylvania-based adoption agency, Families United Network, Inc., and MLJ Adoptions (located in Indianapolis, IN) to find Eliana and bring her home to Pittsburgh, to a family she so richly deserves: espite all of the education and preparation we received, we were still surprised by how D enduring the long process really was. MLJ guided us through the many steps of the process, but the waiting between each step was unbearable at times. Adoptive families are brave warriors for these vulnerable children and although our wait felt difficult it was nothing in comparison to the wait that our daughter endured. Although 3-year-old Eliana faces some challenges (such as catching up developmentally, learning English, and getting accustomed to the sweet American diet), being loved is not one of them: Ashley Loboda
Before she became part of the Pediatric Alliance (St. Clair Division) family, pediatrician Ashley Loboda and her husband, Luke, knew they could — and would — endure the long and winding road that would eventually bring little Eliana into their family of five. Ashley had previously volunteered in an orphanage in Ukraine, and Luke in an orphanage in Guatemala. Together, they always knew there would be room for a sixth Loboda:
I t is amazing how well all of our children have done with the addition of Eliana to our family. Our sons are very doting and loving towards her. The way that they all take care of each other and show love for one another is moving. At first, Eliana was very weak and could not climb the stairs or complete many simple tasks. Her big brothers were always watching and waiting to help her out. Now after three months home, she is strong enough to climb stairs and do many tasks alone but her brothers still keep watch over her. The Loboda’s feel passionately that every child deserves a home and a family to love them:
F rom these experiences, it was clear that all children belong in families. The orphans that we met were starving for love and were born into many disparities. We knew that we could welcome a child into our family and share with them not only love, but also give them the support they would need to thrive. Our international experiences highlighted that orphans face extreme poverty, discrimination, and lack of social services and for these reasons we felt called to adopt internationally. You can read the rest of this terrific article on Eliana’s journey to her new home here.

E very child belongs in a family. It has been a long journey to bring our daughter home, but now with her here we know that she was meant to be a part of our family. If you have it in your heart to open your arms and family to an adopted child, there are so many children just waiting to know the love and support of a family. These children’s lives and futures are depending on it.
Steeler Nation
Dr. Patriots Hat We all know how we in Steeler Nation feel about the New England Patriots. And we were all surprised to find ourselves pulling for the Philadelphia Eagles to win the Superbowl. Seriously!! PHILADELPHIA!! However…SOMEONE at our St. Clair Division thought the Patriots were going to win. And someone else DID NOT! Our Mystery Man, hereafter called Dr. Patriots Hat, says he grew up in New England and remembers watching Patriots games with his grandparents and dad when he was a toddler. It's a family thing, nothing personal Steeler-Nation!
