McLaren 570S Coupe Track Pack

36 37

The McLaren 570S Coupé was the first model in the Sports Series family. Debuting in 2016, the Sports Series marked McLaren’s entry into the luxury sports car market. ‘The Sports Series is aimed at a new audience for McLaren,’ explained Mike Flewitt, Chief Executive Officer, McLaren Automotive, speaking at the time of the Sports Series launch.

”This is the first time we’ve competed in the sports car as opposed to the supercar market”.

GIMS 2017 The Briefing Book

As with all McLaren models, we have prioritised performance, driving engagement and exhilaration. It is a totally driver-focused car, with excellent ergonomics and visibility, and a classleading driving position. This is also the most day-to-day usable, practical and attainable McLaren we’ve ever made. It is a dramatic and beautiful sports car.’ Featuring lightweight construction, including the use of a carbon fibre chassis and aluminium and composite body panels.

A dry weight figure of 1313kg makes the 570S lightest car in the sports car segment by almost 150kg and a power output of 570PS gives a class-leading power-to-weight ratio of 434PS per tonne. The 570S Coupé demonstrates five key characteristics – sophisticated design, minimised weight, day-to-day usability, efficient performance and driving involvement – to create the most accessible McLaren model to date. Winner of 9 awards since launch including Best Driver’s Car 2016 for Motor Trend. Weighing as little as 1,313kg (2,895lbs), thanks in part to the unique lightweight carbon fibre MonoCell II chassis, the Sports Series is almost 150kg lighter than its closest rival. Power is provided by a 570PS 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 engine ensuring electrifying performance. Featuring Electro Hydraulic Power Assisted Steering to ensure maximum road feel and contact patch feedback for an unrivalled driving experience. At the same time, the interior is more tailored around day-to-day usability, with optimised access, greater levels of 38 39

stowage space and more refinement. The Sports Series is a showcase of modern craftsmanship, with each model hand-finished at the state-of-the-art McLaren Production Centre (MPC) in Woking, England. A suite of optional features, technology, exterior colours and interior finishes highlight the levels of customisation available. The car shown here builds upon this, featuring the optional Track Pack which appeals to enthusiastic drivers with lighter weight and additional downforce. Includes a discretely extended rear spoiler to give an additional 29KG of downforce giving even greater stability through corners. 25KG lighter than the standard 570S thanks to Super-Lightweight wheels, carbon fibre bucket seats, a lightweight alcantara interior and carbon fibre interior trim. More aggressive visual cues such as an MSO Dark Palladium roof and Stealth sports exhaust and wheel finish.

GIMS 2017 The Briefing Book

The second model in the Sports Series range, the 570GT, is designed for travel and long distances with powertrain and chassis dynamics honed for road whilst retaining the sporting characteristics of a McLaren. Practical enough for everyday use, the two-seat, mid-engined 570GT sportscar is the most refined and luxurious McLaren yet‌

The McLaren 570GT is part of McLaren’s Sports Series family. The clean lines of the revised glasshouse give the 570GT a sleek, elegant and refined silhouette and a standard fixed glass Panoramic Roof provides a bright, open cabin running through to the large rear glass hatch creating the most luxurious and relaxing McLaren driving environment.

the same as that of the 570S Coupé, providing 150 litres of storage, but a further 220 litres of space is available behind the seats on the leather-lined Touring Deck. The Touring Deck is accessed via a Glass Hatch, which opens on the kerbside whether left- or righthand drive, and offers a usable space for overnight bags or sports equipment.

The 570GT is the most practical model ever launched by McLaren Automotive, targeted towards longer journeys and weekends away. As with all Sports Series models, ingress and egress are optimised through a lower and narrower sill, while the signature dihedral doors open with a more upward arc. Within the spacious and ergonomically-optimised cabin, a pair of eight-way electrically adjustable sports seats are upholstered in leather as standard. The control interfaces for the air conditioning, telephony, navigation and audio systems are managed through the centrally-mounted touchscreen, while vehicle setup is configurable via the TFT LCD digital instrument cluster.

Refinement and day-to-day usability are further enhanced through the latest tyre technology from McLaren Automotive technical partner, Pirelli. The 570GT features specially developed Pirelli P Zero™ tyres which reduce incabin road noise by up to three decibels. The unique characteristic of the tyre is the innovative Pirelli Noise Cancelling System (PNCS): a new technology patented by Pirelli that reduces road noise from the grooves within the tyre, designed to absorb vibrations and reduce transmission into the cabin.

The standard fixed glass Panoramic Roof provides a dramatic glasshouse design running through to the large rear glass hatch. The front luggage area is 42 43

As with all models in the Sports Series, the 570GT is extensively equipped throughout with the latest technologies and the highest quality materials. As standard, the new model features extended leather upholstery, electrically adjustable heated seats with memory

Under the skin, the 570GT has been developed with a unique dynamic setup to reflect its positioning, while retaining the supercar levels of engagement experienced on the 570S Coupé. Pure McLaren design and engineering combine to produce a car with breathtaking performance yet increased levels of luxury and refinement. The 570GT emphasises long distance comfort through further fine tuning of the suspension system, including a reduction in spring rate stiffness of 15 percent at the front and 10 percent at the rear. Independent adaptive dampers can be dynamically adjusted through Normal, Sport and Track settings, and are coupled to front and rear anti-roll bars. The overall set up of the 570GT has been calibrated to enhance road and motorway driving, and aid ride quality over poor road surfaces. The electro-

hydraulic steering system is retained from the Coupé models but with a reduced ratio steering rack that has been specifically designed to smooth out driver inputs at high cruising speed. The 570GT is fitted with the McLarendeveloped 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 M838TE engine which debuted in the 570S Coupé. Power and torque remain at 570PS (562bhp) and 600 Nm (443lb ft) and power is delivered to the rear wheels via a seven-speed seamless-shift transmission with adjustment through Normal, Sport and Track settings to produce one of the most rewarding and engaging driving experiences in the sports car class.
