Home Design Trends for 2023

HHave you ever wondered what drives the changes in design and decorating trends year after year? Is it merely our human desire to never be satisfied or getting bored with a certain style or look and desire something new?

Recently a Hill Country designer, Abby Vasek, suggested it is because new and exciting building materials are continually being created. For instance, do you remember when Hardie exterior sidings came on the scene. Did you ever think it would be replaced? Well, step aside Mr. Hardie. A new product, LP Smart Side is an engineered hardwood that appears to be as desirable and even more durable than Hardie.

If you are building from scratch or remodeling your current home, here are some trends that might fit your taste and budget.

Kitchens

• Lighter counter tops made of thinner cuts

• Mixing of metals

• Larger hardware

• Darker sinks

Side note: Enclosed kitchens are returning due in part to more folks working from home or those who entertain not wanting to see a messy kitchen.

Baths

• Full Wall Tile/ Larger slabs

• Wet Room which includes both tub & shower

• Free Standing Tubs

Interior Trends

• Bigger Trims

• Wainscoting and Full Wall Panels

• Lighter Floors

• Enhanced Laundry Rooms combining utility and luxury

• Statement Wall Sconces

• XL Windows in a few spaces in the home

• Balance between 12-14’ ceilings and a cozy nook feel

Exterior Trends

• Dark Roofs

• Two Colors for Exterior with a statement color door

• Outdoor kitchen/living space is most economical way to add value to your home

The Sherwin Williams Paint color of the Year is Redend Point (SW 9081) - a warmer neutral which is not beige or gray.
