MOUNTAIN HUTS IN BOHINJ
Bohinj is surrounded by mountains. The local people look on the crown of mountain peaks around Bohinj as their own; one of them, however, is owned by all Slovenians: Triglav. Mountaineering in Bohinj has always been recognised as the primary activity of the local people, and domestic and foreign visitors. Trails and mountain huts offer visitors of hills and valleys a hand, support, shelter and a special kind of experience. One is impossible without the other, and alpine tourism has been like this for as long as we can remember.

There are more than ten mountain huts in the mountains of Bohinj, five of which are managed by the Srednja vas Mountaineering Club and the Bohinjska Bistrica Mountaineering Club. The huts can represent a specific goal for hikers and mountaineers, as well as shelter along the way or a starting point for a mountaineering expedition. You can combine visiting a hut with admiring the evening afterglow or the morning sun rising above the valley. Take the time to enjoy the views, stop or spend a night in a mountain hut, taste their culinary specialities and spend some time talking with other people, reading or simply preparing for a strenuous tour. These are all benefits of visiting a mountain hut.

The Orožnova koča mountain hut is located on the Planina za Liscem pasture below the Črna prst mountain that dominates the view of Bohinjska Bistrica. Today’s hut, rebuilt in 2006, is the successor of the first hut of the Slovenian Mountaineering Club and was built on the site of the 1894 hut. The Orožnova koča mountain hut is a checkpoint of the Bohinj Alpine Trail.

KOČA POD BOGATINOM MOUNTAIN HUT

The Koča pod Bogatinom mountain hut is located on the Na Kraju pasture, which is only a 15-minute walk from the edge of the vast Komna plateau and has a central position on the passage from Spodnja to Lepa Komna. The mountain hut was built in 1932 on the foundations of the former World War I Austrian military hospital by the Bohinj branch of the Slovenian Mountaineering Club. The Koča pod Bogatinom mountain hut is located along the Slovenian Alpine Trail and is also a checkpoint of the Bohinj Alpine Trail.
Exclusively on foot from Ukanc (2 hrs 30 min) or Dom na Komni (15 min) – easy trail.
Easy or moderate trails: Krnsko jezero (2 hrs 15 min), Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih (3 hrs), Smučarski center Vogel (5 hrs), Koča na Planini Razor (5 hrs), Bogatin (1 h 45 min), Lanževica (2 hrs).

PLANINSKA KOČA NA VO J AH MOUNTAIN HUT

The mountain hut is located on the edge or the beginning of the Voje glacial valley. Meadows prevail at the end of the valley, and the Mostnica Gorge starts in the immediate vicinity of the hut. The valley is surrounded by high mountains and is one of the primary starting points for climbing Triglav. The hut is a very popular destination among hikers and tourists. It was opened in 1982 and has been renovated several times since then. The Planinska koča na Vojah mountain hut is a checkpoint of the Bohinj Alpine Trail.

Although it stands on the slope of two-thousanders Tosc and Vernar above the vast hollow of the high mountain pasture of Velo polje, Vodnikov dom na Velem polju is one of the most popular and visited mountain huts in the Slovenian mountain world. The hut is situated on the most popular access trail to Triglav that starts on the Pokljuka Plateau. It is one of the oldest huts in our mountains which has been renovated several times. We advise you prepare well to visit the mountain huts in Bohinj and bear in mind the rules of safe safe hiking and mountaineering.
Plan your tour appropriately and consider your abilities, the season, situation along the trail and the weather! Check the distances and difficulty of the trail. Mobile apps (like Google Maps) are not a reliable source of information. Get a printed map with routes, follow marked trails and stay on trail.
Never hike or climb mountains alone. But if you do, notify your relatives or reception desk personnel (where you are staying) about your plans.
Appropriate hiking and mountaineering equipment is a must!
