It is always with great pleasure that we get to welcome you all to our 6th Annual Bull Sale. It is unbelievable how fast time seems to go and loop us around the calendar for another year. We always seem to be jumping from one season to another and right into the next job around the farm. We know how busy farm life can be and we thank you all for taking the time to browse our catalog on your search for your next herd sire.

We must take this time to thank our valued customers, who support us and trust our program to be incorporated into their own. From purchasing bulls through this very sale, selecting females from us in the fall or semen and embryos, your support means everything to us. We work hard at continuing to improve everything about our cattle we can to allow these bulls and females to increase productivity for you. We enjoy producing cattle for you all and look forward to our visits and cattle talks. As much as the industry is about cattle, the people that come with it are second to none and we are so lucky to work with such amazing people. We take great pride in our cattle and strive to raise the type of cattle that will work on so many fronts. We understand expectations of the industry as we too our commercial producers like your selves. Our commercial cattle and registered cattle work side by side to develop the needs of the beef industry. As well as trying to make the production of our operations succeed with ease. We have grown our cattle numbers over the last few years which has really allowed us to implement heavy culling and selection for the type of cattle we feel really work. We rely on the dams of these bulls on offer to work much like our commercial females and your cows in your herd. These females need to be able to calve unassisted, be good uddered, sound footed and structurally correct. While weaning a heavy calf, maintaining body condition and to re breed. We strive for longevity and have the expectation of that cow being here well into double digits of age.

We are currently running two calving programs, the first being a 5-week winter program from January 1st to February 10th which produces the yearling bulls that will start off the catalog. The other being a spring calving group starting April 20th to June 20th, where we hold these bulls over to produce the extra age long yearling bulls in the second half of the catalog. The extra age bulls are taken to grass as yearlings and grown slow and steady to promote longevity and extra growth. Their ability to handle there first breeding seasons with a little more ease is an added bonus. They are able to cover bigger pastures and larger groups of cows or heifers. Both calving groups of bulls have been culled rigorously multiple times from weaning and we feel offer many rock-solid attributes from calving ease bulls to performance bulls in a variety of colours. We may not have had our Charolais as long as the Simmentals, but I assure you they get combed over just as strict and we are very pleased with their addition to the bull pen. With breeding over 1000 females in 2023 we understand the need for reliable walking sires and continue to source walking sires from across the country that meet a strict criterion that we expect of them. The line up of walking sires in this years offering is likely strongest to date. Bulls like NGDB Nitro, Atrim Hunter, GG Jolt, Virginia Pettycash, Keets Ferrous, Moes Hotshot, KWA Export, LLC Level Up and High Bluff Game have proven themselves to be industry leading sires and we feel very fortunate to have them walk the pastures of KSL. There is a handful of exciting AI sired calves as well in the January yearlings that will surely catch your attention as well.

We know too well it takes an army to keep this place moving in the right direction, so I also want to thank our incredible families for being with us every step of the way. On behalf of Keegan, Brad, the entire family at KSL and all of us at Bohrson Marketing, we wish to extend a warm welcome to the 2024 edition of the KSL bull sale, high lighting their 6th annual event. The KSL operation is compromised of a large cowherd with a heavy emphasis on foot and udder quality and over all do-ability. They run their papered cows right along side their large and impressive commercial cow herd and they are raised and bred to work. They are expected to thrive in any environment with minimal input and big output. You can always rest assured when you choose to buy your bulls at KSL, that they are backed by sound, functional females that get the job done.

The bulls on offer this year are as consistent and deep in quality as ever before. The yearling division is brought up through their strict 5 week breeding program and these bulls are born in January and early February. These bulls are raised along side their mamas and weaned in the fall. They are developed responsibly and will be in great working order for you come turn out time. Like the two’s, they are predominantly sired by powerful walking bulls that call KSL home with some really neat proven and fresh genetics made up through the ai and embryo transfer program. The extra age bulls are strategically designed to be born on grass and raised along side their mothers until weaning. They spend the summer as yearling’s out on grass growing out and practicing athleticism. The bulls are brought in late fall to begin a feed ration to help promote lean muscle and growth. These bulls are in ideal condition and bred for longevity. They are a unique opportunity to step into age advantage bulls in both Purebred and Fullblood Simmental as well as Charolais options. These bulls have the age, size and stature to get out and service more cows and handle those big pastures with lots of females. The bull pens as a whole are as deep in options as ever before and we truly believe there is something to suit every program.

NON DILUTOR - Lloyd is Nixon’s offering in the 2024 bull pen. He is a big, rugged power bull from the cow he purchased from John Gillan at Antrim Simmentals in Manitoba. Nixon’s cow Hannah is an absolute treat to have around the farm, she is quiet and gentle with a perfect udder. The pairing of Cash and Hannah has resulted in an exceptional polled bull that should do wonders for his new owner. Nixon sold Hannah’s first calf this past fall as a bred heifer to one of our favourite fellow breeders, Larry Van Sickle of Nolara Farms in Mayerthorpe.

NON DILUTOR - The Pettycash (or Cash as we call him) sire group is one of the larger ones in this year’s yearling offering and you will come to notice how complete and well balanced they all are. This bull has bred extremely well for us, and we have come to appreciate these calves as some of the strongest we’ve raised to date. Luther’s Silverlake Damien dam is heavy pigmented and just one tanky lady. The quality in this pairing we feel will produce drool worthy replacements and thick meaty steers or bull calves.

This stout made, big-bellied bull explodes with shape through his middle to his deep round rear quarter. He has an influential dam who we showed as a heifer calf to be the Grand Champion female at the Dawson Creek Exhibition. China Doll is backed by our most prolific cow family stemming back to the Bar None Bernadette cow family. She has produced many high sellers and continues to raise high end calves no matter how we cross her. NON DILUTOR - Cross Country gets his unique name due to his way of which he ended up at KSL. We purchased his Dam Mitzi from Windy Knoll farms in Nova Scotia. With Mitzi being to close to calving when we bought her Laura, her amazing breeder kept her in Eastern Canada until “CC” was born and old enough to make the “Cross Country” trek to KSL. This stunning cherry red Guerrero son came with ease at 78Lbs and has never looked back. His stunning dam weaned him off at an impressive 926Lbs while making the long trip across Canada and adjusting to northern Alberta. Mitzi is such a doll and loves her scratches and CC is no different, the pen pet, he loves attention. A super thick red bull, 61L is one we are proud to have in the offering. We purchased his dam from Lake Bottom Cattle Co, and it was an investment we are so happy to have made. Our “Dacie” cow as we call her is a beef machine that passes that powerful appearance down to all her offspring.

Linford is one of the Maverick sons in the sale, that has heifer pen written all over him. Smooth fronted with good neck extension. The terms of the sale are cash, cheque, and wire transfers, payable at par at the sale location unless satisfactory payment arrangements have been made prior to the sale with seller, buyer and Bohrson Marketing Services. Bohrson Marketing Services reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Payment in full must be made before cattle can be released and shipped. Exchange rates will be announced sale day and the sale will be held in Canadian funds.

BIDDING:

All animals to sell through the sale must be sold by auction with each animal selling to the highest bidder. Private sales will not be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted.

DISPUTES:

In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved in the dispute. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid and the auctioneer’s decision will be final.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Any announcement from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY:

A registration certificate issued by the applicable breed association and a certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer of each animal after final payment has been made.

HEALTH:

All sale animals have met all necessary health requirements and it is the buyer’s responsibility and expense to determine health requirements for importing any animal into his province or state. Bohrson Marketing Services assume no responsibility for the health status of any animal in the sale.

PURCHASER’S RISK:

Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

LIABILITIES:

All persons attend the sale at the their own risk.

SHIPPING:

Shipping of cattle, semen and/or embryos are the responsibility and expense of the purchaser. Purchasers are requested to provide shipping instructions at settlement on sale day.

INSURANCE:

We strongly recommend insurances for full value on all purchases.

ACCIDENTS:

Every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Sales Management, auctioneer, consignors or Association assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal aor otherwise in the event of accident or loss of property.
