Welcome to LaBatte Simmentals 32nd Annual Spring Bull & Female Sale on Friday, March 2nd, 2012 at Johnstone Auction Mart, 4 miles west of Moose Jaw on #1 highway. I’d really like to thank again all the bidders and buyers from our past sales for the continued support and the effort you make each year to attend our sale. It is really appreciated. Many of you have been great customers over the years but, more importantly, have become great friends. Again, it is a pleasure to have 3D Simmentals as our guest consignor. Dean, Monica and the girls are great people and play a big part in the success of this sale. As always, it’s great working with the crew at Johnstone’s – Wayne, Scott, Dot and Cory. Also our sale consultants, Transcon Livestock, Bouchard Livestock, Bohrson Marketing and, of course, Wilf Davis, who does our video and takes our sale pictures. Marnie and Wilf keep our website updated also. Wilf is a dear friend and how he puts up with me at picture taking time I don’t know. He’s a great adviser even though I don’t listen near as much as he’d like me to, but I do really appreciate his professionalism and knowledge. I would also like to thank Wade Lund, who has been with me for nine or ten years now, as our herdsman. Wade’s dedication to our program is second to none. He’s a huge part of whatever success we’ve had. Finally the turn around in the beef business has happened. The future has never looked brighter and more positive. Record cattle prices this fall and getting stronger in the new year. I spoke to a customer the other day and he was made an offer of $1200 on his 900 lb weight calves. I believe you’ll see $.90 cows this spring and summer also. Cattle numbers are down in Canada, United States and Mexico alike. Our population in the world is growing and more people want to eat beef. I believe the cattle industry looks very bright and Simmental genetics will play a huge part in this beef industry. Simmental’s high maternal traits, superior performance and excellent carcass values will be in high demand. Those naturally thick, heavy muscled, deep bodied cattle that flesh easy and gain rapidly will continue to be the most efficient, functional and profitable cattle in the beef industry. Get ready for some good times in the cattle industry with Simmental genetics. Our sale offering this year is one of the most consistent groups we’ve ever had. We will be offering approximately 85 thick, meaty, beef bulls consisting of Reds, Blacks and Fullbloods and also 30 top end Red and Black open heifers. Our Red offering is headlined by the great Accelerator 226S bull and the KOP Crosby sons. Our Black pen is definitely the best we’ve ever produced, featuring the Springcreek Liner 56U sons. Our Fullblood, Fleckvieh influenced group is mainly sired by the Champ Wallace bull and NUG Jake bull. These powerful, white faced, goggle eyed meat machines will sire heavy weight, big dollar calves. There is an excellent selection of bulls in this year’s offering, from calving ease bulls to powerful beef bulls and they are affordable as the majority sell in the $2000-$5000 price range. If you are unable to attend the sale, give myself or Dean or any of the sales staff a call to have the sale offering evaluated for you. We can be reached prior to and sale day at Johnstone Auction Mart 306-693-4715 or on our cell phones: Barry 306-815-7900, Dean 306-591-2760. If you have any questions earlier, give us a call at our home numbers: Barry 306-9694820, Dean 306-731-3850. We welcome your visit to our farms anytime to see the bulls and heifers firsthand. The coffee pot is always on. Join us Thursday night at the Heritage Inn in our hospitality room for some socializing. We look forward to seeing you on Friday, March 2nd at Johnstone Auction Mart. Join us for a complimentary lunch prior to the sale and also after the sale for some socializing, refreshments and snacks. Best of luck in 2012 and hope to see you at the sale. Barry P.S. All the grandkids are doing great, I’m sure they’ll be at the sale as they are selling their first Simmental, a heifer, IPU Ms. Bejjzs 14Y. (IPU Ms Brodyn, Emry, Jory, Jenna, Zayne and Sierra 14Y)

IPU 52N RED ACCLAIM 318X
A powerful son of the famed Pocahontas 52N cow. This blood red, polled son of TNT Accelerator is very special. He’s smooth, big footed, heavy muscled, deep bodied, has big testicles and is very correct. He is a maternal brother to Kopp’s Touchdown bull, the Roughrider bull at Maple Lake Stock Farms, is a full brother to Jean-Francois LeBlond’s 210U bull he showcased very successfully in Quebec and also a full brother to Maxwell Simmentals’ Accelerator 222U bull that is doing such a great job for them. Red Acclaim has a little extra age also as he was born Nov. 20th, 2010. Dr. Keith Immerkar of Swan River Vet Clinic put some embryos in for us at his place that resulted in four November calves, one being Red Acclaim and a full sister to him. We were very happy with these calves and plan to put some embryos in again this February for November 2012 calves. We think 318X has a great future ahead of him, with his prestigious pedigree, smoothness, muscle shape, dark red color and correctness.

Again another powerful son off of probably our feature flush cow, the homozygous polled, IPU Red Pocahontas 105L. What a cow she has been. She’s the mother of Robb Farms’ 71N cow in which we have a tremendous full sister, 138R. She’s the dam of East Poplar Simmentals’ 195P Ribeye son who they are still using today, the dam of Ms. Red Teddy 68S, the heifer Randy Ward purchased at Simmsational for $21,000 and she has two outstanding sons in this year’s sale. 105L is the dam of two great Accelerator sons, IPU Accelerator 92U who walks the pastures of X-T Simmentals at Eastend, SK and IPU Excel 132W who was our second high selling bull in our 2010 bull sale, selling to Kunkel Simmentals of New Salem, ND for $21,500. We have four coming two year old IPU Revolution 172U daughters off of 105L that are tremendous young cows in our herd and a young Red Teddy calf that’s a full sister to 68S in our heifer pen. Red Pocahontas 105L herself is homozygous polled, deep cherry red and has a perfect udder. She’ll be getting flushed this spring to the $82,000 MAF Horizon 7Y bull that we purchased along with our partners at the Checkers sale in December. That will be a very exciting mating. Red Bullion, the November 20th, 2010 son of Red Bull 53T, has a lot to offer himself. He’s dark blood red, smooth, long, muscled well, is homozygous polled, has good feet and legs and is very stylish. He’s a bull that will be ready to go to work at an early age, should sire some awesome bull calves and a tremendous set of females.

A feature Accelerator son out of a tremendous, young, great uddered, Touchdown daughter. 8Y is a powerful calf that started out with only a 84 lb birth weight but had an actual weaning weight of 1000 lbs in early September. His adjusted weight of 902 lbs ranked him #3 amongst his contemporaries. He is long, stout, deep, loose hided, big topped, has great testicular development and a great temperament. We believe he is one of the best Accelerator sons we have ever produced and will sire a set of powerful calves.

This red, blaze faced bull out of two black parents is one of the best bulls we’ve ever produced. His sire, Springcreek Liner 56U, has exceeded all expectations with his great sire group in this year’s sale. His dam is a beautiful uddered, black, blaze faced, Houston daughter out of the Split Diamond 202F cow. A maternal sister, IPU Ms Exciter 120W was in the choice lot that sold in the 2010 Simmsational sale for $14,500. We were fortunate to get to keep 120W and she has a black, blaze face heifer in the heifer pen and is bred to Liner 56U herself to calve in January this year. With the popularity of the blaze face cattle, Red Chakota is going to play a huge role in our breeding program in 2012. This bull is powerful, soggy, thick, has no white except for his blaze face, has large testicles, a super hair coat good disposition and is mothered by a great cow. And yes, he is heterozygous polled, and this is not going to stop us from using this bull heavily. I think it’s time we purebred breeders think quality first and homo polled secondly. Maybe homo good is more important for us and our commercial customers.

He’s mothered by a super uddered, Red Teddy daughter that is flat out good and grandmothered by Pocahontas 68M, a full sister to Pocahontas 52N. 68M has a beautiful ¾ sister to this bull that is a feature in the heifer section of this sale. 41Y is very smooth made, has a great hair coat, lots of top and butt and testicle, is homozygous polled and has a great pedigree. We think this bull has a very bright future ahead of him.

A good, General Lee calf coming out of the Shamrock cow family. The dam of this bull, 162N, has done a really good job for us. She has a Bodybuilder son working at Janzen Ranches at Rosemary, AB that has done a terrific job for them and in last year’s sale her Accelerator son sold for $10,000 to Progressive Simmentals of BC. 64Y himself is deep, big butted, good haired and loose made. He would sire an excellent set of high performing calves for the purebred man or commercial man.

This is really good haired, Crosby calf out of a terrific, young, Gunner female going back to our flush cow, Shamrock 120L. 18U is one of our favorite young females around here, moderate framed, easy fleshing, stylish and has a super udder. She’s the kind you would like to have a whole herd of. Her last year’s bull calf sold to the good people of Seigle Cattle Co of Maple Creek, SK. 82Y himself is dark red, thick and meaty, stylish and structurally correct. This is a terrific Crosby bull off of one of our best cows, a Ribeye daughter that’s the mother of Rendezvous Farms Red Hummer 217U bull that’s doing such a great job for them. The 138R cow is the full sister to Robb Farms 71N cow that they purchased out of this very sale as a heifer calf. We all know what she has done for them. We flushed 138R this spring so we would have a bank of embryos off her. And the grandmother of this good, young bull is second to none, the Red Pocahontas 105L cow. 95Y is a great individual, thick, deep, loose made and has a great hair coat which we think is so important. You should see his maternal sister, the Revolution 244X heifer that’s calving the first of February. She is awesome, a real power female that is one of the top bred heifers to calve this year.

The natural calf from our donor cow, LCL Miss Noremac 16M who we own jointly with 3D Simmentals, 16M is one of the thickest, deepest, easy fleshing cows we have ever seen. She is the mother of IPU Revolution 172U, the 2010 National Champion bull that High Country Simmentals and Beechinor Bros purchased out of the 2009 Bull Sale. He just recently sired a $40,000 bull calf for High Country Simmentals – congratulations to them. We have seven daughters in the herd and what great, young, easy fleshing females they are making. 296Y is a young March calf but he is thick, deep and soggy. With a mom like 16M and a dad like TNT Accelerator, this young gun will sire the right kind.

We purchased Tank 1U on his overall balance and substance and on the strength of his dam, Springcreek Rose 5P. 39Y is a big, deep bull that will put a lot of performance in his calves. They will push down the scale at weaning time and be in high demand at the auction mart.

She has sons working in the herds of Lyle Jeffery, Briercrest, SK, an outstanding blaze face Dream On son walking the pastures of Clifford Land & Cattle Co of Chauvin, AB and last year her Hero son topped our black bulls, selling to Jean-Francois Leblond of Quebec. We flushed 403P this spring to 3D’s Full Throttle bull and she produced 16 good embryos. If you want to add pounds to your calves, make then deep, thick and stout, this is the calf. This is one of our feature bulls of our 2012 offering and a bull we plan to use in our program. He is sired by the great Liner 56U bull and mothered by an excellent, black blaze face cow we again purchased from Windmill Simmentals. These Windmill cows have really worked well for us and most have a shot of Fleckvieh in them as does Bridgestone’s grandmother who is a high percentage Fleck cow. 299Y is a mid March calf, he’s solid black with only a white blaze face, he’s soggy, deep, thick, big topped and has an absolute beautiful hair coat. Yes, he is again heterozygous polled, but that isn’t going to stop us from using him heavily, the time has come to use quality first. We think with the popularity of the baldy cattle, that Bridgestone could become one of the leading sires of its advancement.

This is a very stylish, NUG Jake calf out of a really good, Houston daughter. We purchased some semen from Jake 49W from Maxwell Simmentals at Viking, AB. We saw him as a yearling and were very impressed with his power, style and thickness. He has not disappointed as he sired a very good set of bull and heifer calves. He also calved very well for us.

This Jake son is truly a sale feature. If you’re looking for a fullblood bull that’s full of meat, muscle, guts, color, hair and style, this is the calf. He’s dark cherry red with two big wrap around goggles, good hair coat and a good disposition. He is mothered by a really good, young, Smithbuilt Molson daughter. 89Y is many, many generations Fleckvieh and he is a bull we plan to use in our fullblood program.

Full Fleckvieh. Here’s another feature bull. This good Romano son is mothered by a Houston cow that knows how to produce the good ones. In our 2007 sale her good, Laredo son sold to Potter Simmentals for $16,000 and Mark Land & Cattle Co has bought two full brothers out of 178M in the 2008 and 2010 bull sales and Lenny only buys the good ones. We have a full sister to 96Y and she is awesome; she was our choice of all our fullblood bred heifers. You should see her now with her January Radium heifer calf at her side, a real brood cow with an awesome udder. 96Y himself is dark red with big goggles, is long, thick and deep and we think he’ll receive a lot of attention sale day.

Here’s another one of our feature Fullblood bulls. This dark, dark cherry red bull is really one of our favorites of all the bulls in the sale. He’s out of the Marilyn cow family and his mother, 47P, has done just a great job for us. We have several top end females in the herd off of her and her only other bull calf sold to Belle Plains Colony and we know how fussy Paul is. This calf is really thick quartered, has lots of top and muscle, is very correct and has style to burn. This young calf has a lot of future ahead of him. He’s the kind you could breed purebreds to, Herefords to, and what a set of calves you would get out of a set of Angus cows – black or red baldies. We tested several fullblood bulls for the diluter gene and all came back diluter free including 228Y.

30 Open Heifers We are again consigning a good group of 30 open replacement heifers for this year’s sale, including 20 red heifers and 10 black heifers. We did manage to get six pictures taken of these heifers before we ran out of time and Wilf had to leave for home back in Manitoba. We’re really proud of what some of the past females have done for their new owners. Many have gone on and produced high selling bulls and females for their operations. If you have any questions on these heifers before the sale, be sure to give us a call and we would be glad to go over them with you. Or better yet, come and have a look at them on the farm before the sale. We would be glad to show them to you.

IPU 59T - maternal sister An outstanding, feature, KOP Crosby heifer out of a super, Red Chief cow. 177Y is one of the best heifers we have ever sold through this sale and her dam is one of the best cows we have. If you’re looking for a perfect udder on a cow, this would be as close as it gets with 68M. She is a full sister to the famed IPU Pocahontas 52N cow also and is in our flush program as well. As we write this she is getting set up to be flushed to the $82,000 Horizon bull. Pocahontas 177Y is dark ,dark red, homozygous polled, very broody, correct and stylish. Whether you want to show her, put her in your donor program, or just have a front pasture cow, we think this female is awesome.

Sale Feature! Shockwave is a Rapid Fire son out of none other than Crossroad Ramona 375R. She is the dam of 3D Full Throttle 483X our $64 0000 high selling bull purchased by Bouchard Livestock Int. Shockwave is also a transplant full brother to 3D Mr Red Sure Fire 449X our high selling red bull in last year’s sale purchased by High Country Cattle Services of Breton, AB and Ronald and Shelley Reich of Tomahawk, AB. He is also a full brother to 3D Top Notch 118T our high selling bull from the 2008 sale. Shockwave is moderate framed, smooth made and super quiet. He possesses tremendous volume and depth to his rib. He is long spined, wide topped and has a deep, wide, heavily muscled rear quarter. Being out of two black parents also gives him the distinct advantage of being outcross to red Simmental genetics. Shockwave certainly has the herdsire look about him. He certainly has the cow family to back it up and given the fact we already know this mating works so well all the guess work is gone. He has Tru-Polled tested heterozygous polled. We would like to retain the right to 100 straws of semen for in herd use only.

Five years ago when we walked into the Wheatland bull pen at their sale 738T just kept popping out of the crowd. Unlimited has that same presence about him. He is moderate framed with a very wide top, tremendous volume and rib shape. He possesses a wide, deep, very well muscled rear quarter. He is structurally very correct and gets out and moves extremely well. His dam, Merry 12S, is a very heavy milking, Red Duke daughter that raised our high selling bull in the 2009 sale selling to Flying ‘S’ Simmentals, Gord and Corrine Seman of Moose Jaw, SK. Tru-polled tested inconclusive homozygous polled. A true herdsire in the making with “unlimited” potential.

One of four Red Ace sons we have in the sale this year and out of a Starquest cow we hold in very high regard. She is extremely deep ribbed, milks very well and possesses a very good udder. She raised our high selling red bull in the 2008 sale which sold to Daniel Reichenbach from Quebec. 136Y is moderate in his make up with a very quiet disposition. We believe very strongly in this calf and he just might be a hidden gem in our sale offering. Don’t pass him up!

Bomber is a dark red son of our senior herdsire, Wheatland Bull 738T. Bomber is an extremely powerful individual. Super long bodied, deep in his rib, wide topped, deep quartered and displays tremendous muscle expression. His dam is a moderate framed, dark red, Starquest cow with a near perfect udder. Bomber has a unique pedigree of short gestation, exceptional calving ease with tremendous performance. He won’t be hard to find in the pen. One of our feature bull that’s worth serious consideration.

Another dark, dark red son of the great Red Ace. Red Desire 110Y is moderate framed, long spined, well muscled and has a great hair coat. His pedigree is loaded with maternal strength with TNT Miss Sadie M68 and the famous 902J cow on the top side and our Red Quorum cow, 3D Phoebe 68P, on the bottom side. Phoebe 68P raised the high selling open heifer calf at the 2009 Simmsational sale selling to Lazy Creek Simmentals of Caron, SK and has put several daughters into our herd. What more can I say. Calving ease, maternal strength and performance. Should make him desired by many sale day.

A dark red son of Red Ace out of a Vintage Red cow that we can’t say enough good things about. Predictability in producing the good ones is something we place a lot of value on and 460Y will be her fifth bull to sell through this very sale ring in just seven years. Revolt is long spined, wide topped, well muscled with good muscle expression. He is certainly worth a second look!

Homozygous Polled. Homozygous Black. Sale Feature! An own son of 680S himself and he is another great one. His full brother sold in last years sale to K-5 River Ranch of Canora, SK and was our second high selling black bull. Turbocharged is loaded with performance, volume and depth of rib. He has that awesome 680S hair coat. He also possesses that wide deep, heavily muscled rear quarter and the big testicle development that the 680S sons have .His dam we can’t say enough good about. She comes from our oldest and our best cow family here at 3D going back to X-T Miss Destiny 73K. 73K, the maternal grandam of Turbocharged, is the mother of 3D Trustin 47T who was a high seller through this very sale a couple years ago selling to Neil Carson of Northern Light Simmentals and Neil is super pleased with Trustin. 73K has also raised many more high sellers for us and has progeny working in many commercial and purebred heads all across Canada. The dam of Turbocharged herself has a very proven track record. She raised a high selling open heifer calf a couple years ago that we sold in 2009 Checker’s Sale selling to High Country Cattle Services of Breton, AB. She has a son that sold through this sale in 2007 that sold to Malcolm Bull of Bethune, SK and a daughter we had retained in our herd. The udder quality and maternal strength in this cow family is second to none. The cow family is proven and 680S is producing the highly sought after genetics for today! Turbocharged is the total genetic package. He has a very bright future ahead of him. Turbocharged has Tru-Polled tested homozygous polled and homozygous black. 3D Simmentals would like to retain 100 doses of semen for in herd use only.
A little different twist here! BLK Ace is a Red Ace son that has calving ease bred all the way through out his pedigree. He still possesses a long spine, nice rib shape and a nice muscled rear quarter. He is a smooth made individual and is bred to be a calving easy specialist. If you are looking for a herd sire to use on heifers this would be our pick. Check out his low birth weight and very balanced set of EPD’s.
