It is with great honor that we welcome you to our 24th Annual Bull Power and Select Female Sale! The optimism in the agriculture industry is certainly starting to pay its dividends, with consistently high cattle and grain prices. Those of us that feed and calve cows in -30 degree weather and that harvest for hours at end, are finally being recognized to the world as a â&#x20AC;&#x153;key player!â&#x20AC;? I feel the strength in generations that continue to impact the agriculture industry, and maintain the everlasting need for food in our economy, will see many more successful years to come! Here at Mader Ranches, we continue to always source new and improved genetics to bring the best product we can offer, and through an extensive AI and Embryo program, we feel we can offer more consistency and quality. The bulls and females coming to town this year are what we hope you feel, better and better! We strive on udder quality, sound structures, functional feet and legs, and most important, longevity to give you, our buyer, the most Bang For Your Buck! Our cattle are not pampered! The cows graze 8 months of the year except for calving with no grain ever, the bulls are on a high roughage ration where they exercise in a 4 acre pen everyday, and the heifers mature over the winter on nothing but silage! We develop our cattle, we do not try to finish them! There will be approximately 90 bulls on offer this year with a select group of heifers and a unique flush opportunity. We run two calving seasons both in January and February, and August and September. The idea around this is to spread out our workload on a management perspective, but also to offer you these extra age bulls that will cover more cows and be more mature to get the job done when you turnout. Each year we shift more cows into the fall calving program, as we would like to see our calving period split 50/50 between the two seasons. All animals in the sale are on a full vaccination program, and all the bulls will be semen tested prior to sale. We again welcome Diamond T Cattle Co. and Pearson Simmentals to the sale. Both very progressive generational farms that are very good cattle people, and both will be bringing to town a strong set of bulls again. We are also very excited to welcome the Sande family, who are long time customers and look forward to working with them to market a handful of their commercial females. We would also like to welcome Bohrson Marketing Services to the sale as our sale consultants. Quite possibly the best outcross bull we have ever raised. We are honoured to be a part of the 24th Annual Bull Power Sale. This is our second year consigning bulls with the Mader Family and Gardner/Smith Family and we couldn’t ask for a better group of friends to sell with! Our farm is located four miles northwest of Calmar, where we have been farming as a family for over a century. We started our purebred Simmental herd in 1971 and have spent the last 41 years raising quality Simmental cattle. Each winter we calve out 100 red and black Simmental females. Merrill and Duncan also grain farm and are kept busy in the spring and summer with custom farming. All of the bull calf pairs are kept at home during the summer on pasture. We were fortunate to have lots of grass this year and the pairs were in good shape throughout the summer. None of the calves are creep fed and all the bulls were weaned by the end of August. Our bulls are then developed on a silage based ration. This year’s bulls are all multi generation polled and multi generation red and black. There’s a lot of excitement in the agriculture industry right now! The results of the 2012 fall production sales were very impressive and we’re optimistic about the 2013 bull sale season as well. Commodity prices are strong and so far it’s an excellent start to 2013! Welcome to the MADER RANCHES Internet Heifer Auction. We have tried to create an easy to work with online auction process. Please read the following instructions and if you have any trouble or questions, be sure to give us a call. INTERNET AUCTION DATES AND TIMES The auction has been set to run from 9:00 a.m. MST on Tuesday, February 12th, 2013 with the silent auction portion closing at 1 PM February 15th (Sale Time). The Bulls will then sell first through the ring and then the heifers will come through. Heifers prices will start at wherever they have been left off online. They will then be sold and both online bidders and live sale bidders can participate. A sale order will be posted 9:00 Friday morning. If you don’t have computer access, phone in bids will be accepted at the numbers listed on page 3. Be sure to register early to allow the necessary time to be put in to the system. HOW TO PARTICIPATE • In order to participate in the online auction you will need to pre-register and obtain a buyer number. • To do this, go to the LiveAuctions website, www.liveauctions.tv, and select Mader Ranches Bull Sale & Online Heifer Auction. • After logging in the buyer registration form should pop up automatically. If it doesn’t there is a link you can select that says, “register for a buyer number”. • This form requires you to fill out your banks name, city, province, phone number and a contact. • You may register to bid after bidding has opened but please remember that authorization to bid is not instantaneous. HOW THE AUCTION WORKS • Once you have a username and have received a buyer number then you are ready to bid. You will see a screen that is unique to your user ID. • There will be a list containing the sale lots. If you click on a lot the video clip or photo will be displayed to the right. The next bid, current price, proxy bid, and manual bid buttons will be displayed below the video area. This page will react to your bids by stating, “you are in” or “you are out”. • No one else will be able to see your bid – that data is not accessible to the public. • Each time you login, the auction screen will display your personal bidding information. Your auction screen is unique and private displaying your activity to only you. • Remember that you must have the lot that you are bidding on selected. This is where it tells you if you are in or out. It is here where you can also see your proxy (automatic) bid settings as applicable.

We decided last year that every year in the bull sale, we would like to offer something uniquely exciting! Last year was a select group of prestige embryos, and this year is to offer you the opportunity to flush one of our very best, proven, donor females! Opal has quite a history here raising over 30 calves that have all been very marketable! One of the great sons still raising us calves, Ironman, was born in this cow’s first year of production. As you can see he has had, and will continue to have a great influence on our program. Another standout would be his full sister Blackrain, who sold to Remington, than resold for a higher value at their dispersal to Ashworth Farm and Ranch. This past fall, Opal naturally raised one of our best bulls, and we decided as a 6 year old cow we would halter break her and show them as a pair! They were Reserve Champion Female at both Olds Classic and Brandon Fall Fair, and with the sale of ½ interest in her calf, Mader Dictator, and semen sales, he became a $30,000 herdsire! We plan on using Dictator heavily in our program, as we said if this cow ever gives us another great bull like Ironman, we would keep and use him! The udder structure on this cow is second to none, perfect size teats, excellent suspension and balance, and milks heavy. Her phenotype is excellent and always has been. She is feminine fronted, big barreled, very athletic in movement, and very good-natured. The big perk to flushing this great cow is she has averaged over 20 embryos in the 5 times she has been flushed! So feel confident in this purchase! She is Homo Polled and Homo Black.

Certainly one of the favorite heifer calves since a young age with her flawless design, easy fleshing ability, and stout made phenotype. She is just about a March born female and comes from a big powerhouse Crocket daughter that raises only the good ones. In my opinion, this female could end up to be the sleeper of the day, as she may get a little out powered in the pen, but once you get her bred and make her a cow, she should really excel! Sande Cattle Company is a fourth generation family owned business, in operation for over 100 years, we run 250 commercial cows with mainly Simmental, as well as Charolais and Maine Anjou influence. We have used Mader Simmental Bulls for 10+ years, and have kept coming back for many reasons, including birth weight, excellent dispositionâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s and ease of fleshing ability. We purchased a Mader, Salers bull 6 years ago to breed to our 1st calvers, and have been blown away by the calving ease, and the growth of the calves greatly exceeding our expectations year after year. We are excited to offer 8 commercial heifers from our program; we feel these heifers would make great replacement heifers. Or the ultimate recips, for the purebred breeder looking to get a tremendous rate of gain on there embryo calves. The cross with a Simmental based first calf heifer and a Salers bull offers excellent fertility and milking ability. These heifers were born the middle to end of February. They were vaccinated with 8 way at branding. At weaning they were given, Ultrabac 7/ Somnubac (7way) & 1 shot, bovi-shield gold. They were also boosted with Somnubac, Estrumated, and Ivomeced. Optimizing the longevity of females is very important to the bottom line and we feel herd health is one of the most important factors in this. (There are additional pictures available upon request)
