SooLine 2012 Bull Sale Catalog

Page 1

Welcome to our Tenth Annual On Track Bull Sale. It is an exciting time to be in the beef business and an even greater time to be in the Angus breed. We are enjoying prosperous prices on all segments of the livestock industry with all signs leading towards a long duration of record prices. The optimism and opportunity for everyone in our industry has never been better in recent times. At Soo Line Cattle Co. we are enjoying seeing the positive results of Soo Line genetics working for other establishments. There is no greater reward than seeing progeny that are topping sales, winning shows, and most importantly, producing a strong calf crop influenced by Soo Line Genetics. We were just as proud as the Bush family was when they were selected as the Reserve Grand Champion Pen of Three Bulls at the National Western Stock Show. Two of the three bulls in their pen were sired by a bull that Bush Angus purchased from this sale a few years ago. We were very grateful when the Norseman family won Reserve Grand Champion Bull at Canadian Western Agribition, Kodiak 0022 was last year’s high selling bull. We were very proud to see Kodiak 0022 has developed into a great young herdsire. Moreover, the countless cattleman that are excited about the calf crop they had from a Soo Line bull. These are the rewards that keep us motivated. If you already know or are just getting to know our program you will soon learn we are a very dedicated and disciplined operation. When purchasing Soo Line Genetics you will be assured we take every step possible to breed the best we possibly can. We travel countless miles and spend endless hours studying in search of the best cattle and genetics on the continent. Most importantly we are very strict in our culling procedure of our cowherd. We demand a cow that is phenotypically very strong, that is easy fleshing, fertile, and can raise a top calf every year. We do not help udders at calving time. If they need help or if there is something we do not like about the cow at calving time she is removed from the purebred operation. We make sure every bull in the sale is from a problem free cow. Our 2012 offering of bulls is stronger and deeper in quality than ever before. The bulls are developed on a high roughage ration designed to grow the bulls and show their potential without sacrificing the longevity of the bulls. We guarantee the bulls to be reproductively sound and fertile. Customer satisfaction is guaranteed. This past year we used very little creep feed, the bulls were only on creep for about 20 days depending on which pasture they were in. We feel they were on creep long enough to make the weaning transition easier but not enough to influence weaning weights. So expect these weaning weights “real world’ The only exception is the bulls that were Denver show prospects, they were creep fed about two weeks longer. At Soo Line we are always striving to improve. They were on creep about two weeks longer. At Soo Line we are always striving to improve. Once again we will have our popular “no hassle” in-house bull warranty program available. We would love to have you at our sale, however if you are unable to attend, take advantage of our sight unseen purchase program with 100% satisfaction guaranteed. Bulls will also be delivered to your yard or to a central point free of charge. If you pick up your bull within three days of sale day $50 will be deducted from your bull. We would like to send out a sincere Thank You to everyone who has taken time out of their lives to come to our sales, tour our operation, or just call to discuss Angus bulls. Breeding Guarantee - All cattle are sound and right, and all with a responsible breeder guarantee of satisfaction. In the event of any unlikely dispute, the regular terms and conditions, standard with the Canadian Angus Association shall apply. We guarantee to provide you with a breeding bull for the season. We will not however provide replacement or adjustment for physical injury or mismanagement. With this in mind, we cannot stress enough the importance of insurance on your bull purchases. Soo Line Motive 9016 is the $55,000 half interest feature at the 2010 Bases Loaded Sale Denver, Colorado. He is a young sire that is captivating to witness. He is extremely well made with a long front end with as much breed character and presence as any bull we have raised. He is a product of the great $45,000 TLA Beauty 5R who sold last fall to ZWT Ranch. The Beauty cow family is synonymous for outstanding udders, perfect phenotype and amazing heads. Motive’s first progeny have exceeded expectations and are creating top reviews from across the nation. His progeny are low birth weight and showing that extra flare to their muscle just like Motive did at a young age. They are also long fronted, deep bodied, good haired and the females look like they will be fantastic future producers. His first two daughters at auction for Soo Line respectively brought $10,000 and $12,000. We missed the semen for our early AI at Soo Line so expect a much bigger group next year. Motive is the next generation from the Kodiak line and is creating his own legacy.

TLA BEAUTY 5R Dam of Motive 9016

TLA BEAUTY 6R Full Sister to the Dam of Motive 9016

Soo Line Motive 1038 has surfaced as one of the highlights of the 2011 calf crop. He was a member of our second place Pen of Three bulls in Denver. Even more exciting is the fact that he will be among the first sons to sell out of the upcoming great sire, Motive 9016. His beautiful, big bodied, nice uddered dam was a favorite in our fall female sale. Motive 1038 owns a little more size than most and is extremely long bodied and long fronted. With his perfect head, character and strong EPD tabulation you will want to keep every daughter sired by him.

Kodiak progeny have also dominated the bull show at Agribition for the last few years. There has never been another sire in recent times that has consistently had such a high percentage of the overall and division Champions. One of our favorites, and owned with the Dyrland family of Norseman Farms, is the 2011 Reserve Grand Champion Bull, Soo Line Kodiak 0022. Who in turn was a high selling bull in last year’s sale for $32,000. Kodiak has sired more five figured progeny as any Canadian sire in the Angus breed for the last few years. A maternally charged bull. His dam Heroine 106P was a highlight in our fall female sale going to Cedar Hill Stock Farm. Heroine 106P is a deep ribbed, nice uddered female who is always in great condition. A maternal sister to Kodiak 1084 which is one of my favorite young cows at Soo Line. This calf had a bit of a rough summer – so take that into consideration.

DTZ 106P - DAM

Kodiak 1057 will add growth, muscle and sheer pounds to every calf that he sires. In today’s prosperous times that adds up to a lot of money. He is one of the top indexing calves at weaning and yearling and is one of the longest bodied bulls in the offering. He already weighs in excess of 1500lbs and will be a man come sale day. Cattlemen that demand performance will love this bull. A maternal sister Soo Line Lady Sandy 6039 sold to Blairs. Ag for $8,750.

A pair of ET brothers that are full siblings to the great Soo Line Annie K 6271. Soo Line Annie K 6271is most famously known as the cow that won the World Angus Forum and sold privately to Werner Angus. Many have considered her the best cow they have ever seen. I like to say she has introduced us to more people than we could have ever known. What is more exciting is her legacy is thriving. A natural daughter just won Grand Champion Female at CWA and was named RBC Supreme Champion Female. Six progeny have sold a half interest for $29,000; $24,000-half interest; $17,000; $13,500; $13,000 and $12,000. We have three full sisters we are anxiously waiting to be in production. These pair of bulls are solid made and have a maternal look to them. These are the kind to build a foundation with.

Here’s a bull with a little more age that will be able to cover some cows. His dam was a $13,000 purchase as a yearling from Werner Angus. I love this bull for the character in his head and the way his neck comes out of his shoulder. He is big topped, long bodied and you have to love the outstanding pedigree combining Bismarck with Traveler 004, Bushwacker, and New Trend 315. Herd sire opportunity.

Final Answer 1198 came in dam from our pick of the females at Remington Cattle Co. His two year old dam, Blackcap 141W is a deep bodied female with tons of fleshing ability which is very typical for Yellowstone 80M daughters.

Bar- E-L Thor 6 T progeny continue to be in high demand for the added bone, substance, muscle mass and that Thor “look” they own. Thor progeny all stand on a large hoof, are deep ribbed and undoubtedly have as much hair as any Angus sire out there. His first daughters in production look great and a highlight would be the current Canadian Western Agribition, RBC Supreme Champion Female.

Thor 1085 possibly had the most attention as any bull we had in Denver. Absolutely the most diverse types of operations evaluated him both Angus breeders as well as Club Calf breeders. He is a very complete made herd sire with that extra flare of muscle, style, character, bone, rib and hair that is unbelievably rare in the Angus breed. All while maintaining his muscle mass and dimension. He is a very sound and athletic individual. His dam is in my top ten females on the ranch. A maternal brother sold to Gary Gervin last year.

Wall Street 7091 combines a rarely achieved balance of huge muscle mass and dimension with a very clean and extended front end. They are long bodied and heavy. The birth weights on these Wall street sons are heavier because when they are born they are longer bodied than everything else. If you enjoy length and power in your calf crop look to these scale topping sons. Wall Street’s daughters are proving to be great females. They are long bodied with very feminine angular front ends. Some of our best young females are Wall Street daughters.

Reports are in: Wall Street sons have had a season out in the pasture and the results are: cows get bred. Wall Street sons have proven they will cover some cows with their extra frame and power with out sacrifice. These Wall Street sons do carry a little extra birth, but it is because of their extra length of body. We have used Wall Street on heifers with success.

We didn’t picture too many of these bulls as it takes a lot of time but here is a great example of what these Wall Street bulls look like. They are long as a super B with an immense amount of muscle and always with an erect front end. Wall Street 1136 has added hair and will produce some great females. An extra age bull that will cover some cows. He was purchased in dam from EBY Ranch, Emporia, KS. His dam is a perfect uddered Right Time daughter that I think has a huge future ahead of her. This bull was born on grass and has had no extra feed in his life. He has grazed and wintered with our herd bulls, so he will be a little green and know how to respect other bulls. Study this bull for what he is. He would be perfect for rough country or a big group of heifers.

Introducing the first son of our junior herd sire Predominant to sell. What a way to start it off with a bull that is so nicely made in his structure. Moreover, he is clean necked and smooth shouldered with a sound leg structure. He is nice headed and looks like a great female producer. His dam and grandam are nice females. PEEK DOT T PREDOMINANT - SIRE LOT 81
