The Chosen One 2025

Page 1

Welcome to

Over the years we have been working hard to increase the strength of our program both in terms of quality and size. AI breeding to more and more top end herd bulls has become a pillar of our program. Selecting these bulls to match the strength of our cow families to develop more quality females to improve each year in the bulls we have on offer. This year 3 walking herd sires and one AI sire bring together our offering. Our Tribute son off the Soo Line Lady 9339W cow makes up the majority of our offering. A bull that has provided calving ease, exceptional udders on his daughters and great growth and performance in the commercial calves post weaning. If you happen to be a producer that backgrounds your calves, look at these Tribute sons to add performance in the backgrounding yard. We calve later than most traditional breeders, thus why we have been offering some 2 year old bulls on offer if you require that extra size to cover a few more cows. With most of our commercial producers calving a little later themselves our yearling bulls work well as they hit their ideal weight and body condition right as they are required to get to work. We are extremely excited for our first ever online bull sale and will continue to work hard to improve the quality each year.

Along with the bulls on offer take a good look at the 25 top end replacement breeding heifers. These females have been selected from 250 heifers. They have been palpated by our veterinarian and will be fully vaccinated with our annual program long prior to the sale. These females will have the size and strength to be bred right away for early to mid January calves or can be coasted along to breed for February or March. We have been growing our commercial bred heifer sale every year and want to thank the bidders and buyers from the fall of 2024 for your confidence in our program.

BUY BACK PROGRAM

A big focus for us has been sourcing more heifer calves each fall. We look for all sizes to fit our different breeding times. We look for nice sorted packages and work closely with producers to put groups together every fall. The main focus is breeding type females that can fill our commercial heifer program. People that source bulls from us, please reach out and let us know what you have on offer.

Terms and Conditions

The terms of the sale are cash, cheque or etransfer payable at par immediately following the close of the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder.

Late summer our bull calves are moved from summer grazing onto fall pastures. Come late October we will gather the bulls, vaccinate them and move them home for the winter feeding period. Our cows and calves stay on a mineral program year round that is formulated for the different seasons and forage types. From there we will place them on a TMR of corn silage, 1C high protein Alfalfa hay, pea straw and a complete bull developer ration. The bulls intakes are followed over the feeding period with the help of the Performance Beef program in our tractor unit to ensure proper dry matter intake each day. This program gives us the ability to track and monitor intakes on a daily basis. The bull feed is formulated to maximize forage intake and provide proper levels of total diet protein and energy. A complete mineral package with chelate minerals and high levels of vitamins ensure a proper balance of the total TMR. With calving later in the season compared to most purebred breeders we know it’s important to feed to the animal and match intakes based on current weights and growth curves.

How to Bid

Now that you are logged in and your account phone number / email is verified you are able to bid on an upcoming sale. Simply find the lot you are interested in bidding on. After you have found the lot there are 2 options for bidding on the lot.

Place Next Bid

to place the next bid on the item, you see the amount in the first box, you simply click the “Place Bid” button and after you review the bid and agree to the terms and conditions your bid will be placed.

Max

Bid Amount

to place a max bid you put your max bid in the second box listed as “Max Bid” on the item, and then click the “Place Bid” button and after you review the bid and agree to the terms and conditions, your bid will be placed as the next bid. With the Max Bid placed the computer will then keep you as the high bidder to the max amount you have placed. This can be a great feature if you are not able to give 100% attention to the sale close out and protect your interest so you do not miss out on any lots you want to purchase. The Max Bid amount is completely confidential from the seller.

Example of How the Max Bid Works

If the lot has a $2000 bid on it and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you but if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and bidding again or moving your attention to a second lot of interest. Please note that in some cases a lot value can change very quickly if 2 max bids are placed on the same lot competing against each other.

4. Watch List Feature

If you have items in multiple auctions or only a few from the same auction that you want to watch with out having to scroll through the entire list, you can add the lots to your watchlist. On each lot you will see the “eye” button beside the bid button, by clicking this “watchlist” Icon that item is added to your personal watchlist for easy viewing of just your favorite lots in this sale or on the entire site.

5. Sale Ending / Closeout

Most Farm Gate Timed Auction sales close racehorse style with extended bidding.

What is Racehorse Style Close?

Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding.

How will Extended Bidding works?

When we get to the close out end time the clock for close extends with any bid placed with less than 5 min on the clock. This type of extended bidding turns the end time to more of a soft time. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and give all bidders the same time to make a decision. Always follow the clock to see how much time remains in the sale you are interested in.

6. Bidding Close & Follow-up

After the clock has gone to “ENDED” and no bidding has occurred for 5 min the computer will declare the sale finished. Following the close typically within 24 hours of the sale close the sale consignor will contact all winning bidders to arrange payment, transfer of pedigrees and delivery/Pick up of your lot. Or as the winning bidder you can contact the sale consignor / sale manager to confirm payment instructions.

Please make sure that your account info is up-to-date and correct if you are the winning bidder of a lot as this is how the billing is sent to Sale Manager and/or Sale Consignor.

A bull that offers great calving ease while not giving up any performance in calf weight come time of weaning. Our heaviest steer calf we shipped this past January was sired by Tribute himself, off a first calf heifer and shipped out just a hair off 900lbs

One of only two Maine Angus cross bulls in the offering. This expressive muscled 2yr old bull is sire by our walking herd bull Oklahoma 356H. This sire has added pounds to every calf at weaning time while keeping his daughters extremely feminine with great quality udders. Not to be over shadowed, the dam of this 2 year old is our foundation cow 27Y. 27Y was never shown or hung any banners but she has weaned off the heaviest calves in our herd year after year while breeding back with no issues. Over the years we have worked to retain every daughter 27Y has given us and maternal brothers are breeding cows for us here at DRSS. We only have a handful of Maine cows left but she is one that has left her mark here on our program.

This bull is definitely a sale feature for us. As this bull grows you can just see the masculinity in him as he matures each day. His dam has produced a few herd sires we have been using over the years. This past spring we flushed this bulls mother with great success. We kept her open to re flush her again in the summer and she hit it out of the park again the second time around. This bull is long spined, has some extra dimension. We love the look of this sire and see a bright future in him. Sale terms to be announced prior to the sale.

A Tribute son off just a first calf heifer we sourced from the great people at Rio Grande Angus. We loved the pedigree behind this young female. She calved to her AI breeding as a first calver and just calved here again this past week back to her AI breeding as a second calver. Great udder quality. A bull with calving ease but enough shape and dimension to add some pounds.

ROCKY LANE MISS 50H

A full brother to our 2 year old Maine Angus sire going back to that great 27Y cow. We love this bull for his extra rib shape and dimension. A maternal sister to this yearling, our 47A, just calved last night. She reminded us of her easy fleshing ability, structural soundness and great udder quality.

Commercial Open replacement Heifers

These heifers will be sorted by weight, type and kind. There will be heifers and packages with higher Simmental base along with some that are higher Angus base. Blacks, Reds, Blaze face, we will have packages to fit all operations. All heifers will be fully vaccinated and ready to breed. Have a good look here. Most of these heifers offer the weight and frame to be bred nice and early for mid January calves with a few packages ready to breed for a little later calving as well.
