This past year has been a busy one as we welcomed our newest team member and granddaughter Harlow. It’s so exciting to see the next generation of cattlemen and women take a bigger role in the industry and to see our daughter and son in law take on new roles in our operation we eagerly await the junior shows to come in Harlow’s future. It was so much fun to dust of the halters and get back on the show road with our industry partners and friends on #TeamColiseum. We had the privilege of working with the elite halter breaking team Jace and Rory Hurum who were invaluable crew members this summer. We thank them immensely for the many days they spent at The Shed quieting and halter breaking 26 calves with us! We have been looking forward to this sale since we closed the doors on the calving barn last year. We would like to extend a sincere thank you to those who purchased bulls from us last year and to those who continue to show interest in our program. The bulls we have on offer this year are a product of multiple strong cow families and highly reputable herd sires. We feel that we have put together a diverse pen of bulls that will suit many different programs. As is standard in our program, the bulls were brought up on free choice hay and hand fed 16% co-op bull ration, allowing them to grow efficiently without being pushed. We always aim to raise quiet bulls, and therefore all bulls are tie broke in October. Our operation is a family run operation and we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without the help of Arnold & Jane Kruger- they feed, bed, and check cows while we aren’t able to do so and we can’t thank them enough for their hard work. This year was an exciting year as we welcomed our first daughter, Bradi Kruger, and we can’t wait to include her in The Event. These three embryo brothers are the result of a big time flush on the donor cow from Skor Simmentals. When we laid our eyes on this old cow, we knew that we wanted her. She is an extremely productive Crosby daughter with a super udder and perfect feet that performed extremely well for us here. The cross is with Wheatland Red Express 890F, the high selling red bull from their 2019 sale who adds extra flesh and calving ease. Thank you to all the bidders, buyers and those who attended last year, both online and in person; making our inaugural event a success. Black Gold Rigs and Oakview Fineprint are our herd bulls leaving their mark on our offering this year. Crossroads Vintage was the bull that started it all for us and we are pleased to offer more of his sons for your appraisal. Due to the dry conditions this year, we bumped our weaning date up a bit but are still pleased with weights of the bulls. As always, our bulls were raised from birth to weaning on strictly their mother’s milk and the forage in front of them. We made the switch to Trouw rolled ration and are extremely pleased with the results. We still utilize the same philosophy of bucket feeding our bulls to control their intake and incorporate some into the silage ration every calf on the farm gets. Our bulls are weighed monthly to ensure an appropriate rate of gain and we strongly believe this feeding regime increases longevity and soundness in the bulls. Jeremiah is one of my favorites in the pen this year. He is our youngest bull but that hasn’t held him back. Early on you could see him developing into a herd bull and he continues to show promise. We were super excited to purchase Lady 5G, a State of War daughter from the reputable Erixon herd in their 2020 bull sale. Josephine is a heifer we had tucked away in the keeper pen. Her mother is an excellent female from the MAVV program that we have high expectations for. She is sired by Battle Cry who is certainly leaving his mark on the Simmental world lately. Josephine has beautiful angles and exceptional volume; she is a brood cow in the making. We are certainly sad to see her go but are excited to see the future she has to offer her new owner.
