SIMMENTAL BULL SALE with guest consignor WALLGREN FARMS Tuesday February 22, 2022 2PM /// ON THE FARM /// VERMILION, AB
CHAPTER FOUR
a program that invests in it’s future...
welcome Welcome to Chapter 4 of our Annual Bull Sale once again held on the farm in our heated sale/ calving barn. For the 4th straight year we are welcoming Wallgren Farms to the sale where they are bringing a handful of yearling bulls. Each and every year their pen gets better and we think you will once again see that this year. Great people to deal with who have a real passion for the beef business. Thank you as always to our past customers!!! The faith you have put in our programs means the world to us and we hope you can see the progression of our programs and where we are headed. We live and breathe the cattle business and the best part of it is no doubt the people who make it up. This past year has without a doubt gave us the most sleepless nights and uneasy feelings, but like everyone in the ag business we are at the mercy of mother nature and when she doesn’t want to cooperate there ain’t much you can do. We had 50% of our cows off grass this fall by Sept 1 and the rest were home in early October. That is a month and a half to two months early for us and we didn’t leave a lot of grass behind so this snow so far this winter is a welcome sight. The best part about the business we’re in is no doubt being able to raise our kids in the ag business. Each and every year they take a little more interest in what we’re doing and with the margins tight and hired hands a luxury we don’t have, we are counting down the days until we have 4 built-in hired hands! Marley (7) is now in grade 2, she plays the fiddle, skates and is the mother hen to the other three kids which is much appreciated. Cash (5) is in Kindergarten, guitar lessons and skates as well and has toyed with the idea of halter breaking a calf to show this summer… he has a good eye at a young age because every good calf that comes through the yard is “his”. Jaycee (4) is in pre school, skating and we don’t actually know what she likes yet as her likes and dislikes change like the weather. She is our wild child and we wouldn’t want it any other way? (we say that now). Lastly, Merit (2) is our joker in the family and spends his days trying to keep up with his siblings, riding in the tractor with dad, playing farm and pointing out semis we meet on the road. We are a busy bunch, but wouldn’t change it for the world. Jenna still sells Pioneer corn and canola right from the farm and has tackled another passion of hers this past year with putting on a self growth conference for women. Kelly still seeds a bit of corn in the area in the springtime, but spends most his time with the cows. The cowherd is still around that 170 mark and 2 groups of embryos were put in again this spring. We are sure proud of what our cowherd has evolved into these last few years and utilizing embryo transfer has just expediated that process. The cows are not pampered and run in “real world” conditions and the same can be said of the 2 yr old bulls. They are grown out slowly and spend the summer living on green grass. They were brought in October 1 this year due to the drought. This would be 2-3 weeks early for us. We don’t creep any calves and that goes for the 5 yearlings of ours you will see go through the sale. We have invested heavily the last few years on herd bulls and donor quality females and while the cheques weren’t always easy to write we have a plan and a vision for this herd and we have followed through on trying to get there. The bulls you will see are real world bulls, bulls who can walk, bulls who we think are right for the times. Please join us sale day, but if for any reason you are unable to please feel free to come through the bulls or cows at any time before then. The coffees always on and the beers cold and we love talkin’ cows. We can’t wait to show off a real deep set of bulls! The Waltz Family

Sales Management One of the great opportunities every spring to step into extra age Simmental bulls takes place at this bull sale. As well, the yearling bulls on offer from both W2 Land & Cattle and Wallgren Farms are the strongest set to date, complimenting the deepest set of extra age bulls the Waltz family has yet assembled.
W2 is a strong example of a young, hands on family farm as Kelly, Jenna and their 4 children are very active in the day to day activities on the ranch, and other faucets of the beef industry, including Jenna’s involvement as a Pioneer Seeds dealer and Kelly’s custom corn planting. The Waltz program is very well known for extremely high quality extra aged Simmental beef bulls that are born on grass and designed for a 2-year old program. They calve a select group of cows and implant some embryos for January calving as well, so they are able to offer some yearling bulls each year and market some older born females every fall. The advantages to utilizing a W2 aged bull is great, as you get a more mature product at the best bang for your buck that can get out and cover more cows. You can rest assured the cowherd behind this strong group of comin’ twos is highly productive and the no nonsense kind. The W2 yearling bulls are an exciting set that are the results of some exciting genetics off of their own donors and production cows and some embryos they had purchased. Wallgren Farms has certainly been a great fit as guest consignor to the W2 Bull Sale. This young purebred Simmental operation has certainly been a proactive and aggressive one and it has been fun to watch it evolve in just a few short years. This is the largest and deepest set of yearling bulls WF has assembled and it certainly comes as no surprise when you see the females and herd bulls/semen packs Brant and Dean continually purchase. They are always on the hunt to find the next piece to elevate their progressive program. South of Vermilion on February 22 will be an exciting opportunity for extra age and yearling Simmental bulls. The loyal, repeat customers to these outfits speaks volumes to the quality of product and the due diligence paid by these breeders to annually offer big stout, hairy beef bulls that improve your bottom line. We really hope you’re able to join us sale day, and encourage you to reach out to the W2 and Wallgren programs about your operation and the bulls on offer. If we at Bohrson Marketing can be of any assistance in helping you source your next herd bull(s) we would be glad to do so in offering our free to you order buying service. We look forward to discussing this impressive set of bulls with you. Best regards, The Bohrson Marketing team

LOT 1: We have never had a lot 1 bull as exciting as Kraken pure and simple. When you analyze the bull he is as impressive from the profile as any bull to come out of our program, but it’s when you get behind this bull where you really see his value. Huge hipped and huge topped. The bull is so structurally sound with a real tidy shoulder to him with that calving ease head. The most exciting part of this bull may very well be his donor dam who is picking up steam with two breds selling recently bringing $11,000 and $20,000 respectively. We strongly believe the Flirty Magilcuty cow is just getting started, with this feature bull along with his flushmates being the first flush ever from the young donor. This won’t be the last you have heard of Flirty Magilcuty or the last you have heard of Kraken 85H!

LOT 2: The flush brother to the exciting lot 1 bull and a bull that does a lot of things right himself. He profiles beautifully with the same white splash on his head along with the same calving ease head. These two brothers are the youngest bulls in the extra age pen as they were embryos put in at the inlaws in Saskatchewan. Both bulls have been fun to watch develop. That same strong top, extra bone and as harry as any bulls we have raised would best describe both of these bulls. Two bulls we feel are pretty special and have a place in the industry.

LOT 3: This yearling is a bull that needs to be seen in person to appreciate the dimension he has. Huge hipped and topped with a real stylish front end to him and that perfect blaze. 90J has been a fun bull to watch develop, he’s so unique in his build and not like any bull we have raised to this date. He too is from our Flirty Magilcuty donor cow who is a full sibling to the famous RF Certainly Flirtin 202Z cow who very well may be the most influential Simmental cow in the breed in this country. We have a full sibling heifer in the replacement pen who is off limits and like her brother is really unique in her design. We think this bull has all sorts of potential.

LOT 4: Another yearling ET calf who we have admired from a young age. 4J was a calf that last year before our bull sale when people were touring the cow herd noticed this stout little black calf strutting around the pen. He comes from a set of embryos purchased out of the great Linnette 854U cow and the IPU Bentley bull. We ended up having 4 of the 5 embryos stick and got 3 bulls and a heifer calf. We decided to sell one of the bulls sell this year, but quite honestly they all were exceptional and could have made their way to the yearling sale pen. The heifer from this flush is an absolute standout in the replacement pen and one who we are excited to build another cow family around. Soft made, hairy with a great disposition describe this bull well. Truly a bull that needs to be seen in person. PAGE 7

LOT 5: When visitors come to the yard one of the first questions we usually get is where is that baldy Jenna cow you guys own. Jenna was a $30,000 purchase a couple years back and these flushmates are her first set of calves we have brought to the table. We flushed her with the popular LFE Beast Mode bull and it really seemed to click. We sold a baldy bred at the historical Jenna/Flirt Event this past summer and another in the Border City Sale. Both heifers were very popular and I believe both of these bulls from that flush will be popular as well. The 84H bull has had that herd bull look from a young age. Very proud through that front third and a lot of natural muscle throughout. Probably the biggest footed bull in the sale. A bull that has been pointed out on grass this summer multiple times and for good reason.

LOT 6: Again a Jenna x Beast Mode combination, but this time with that popular baldy face and a yearling. A true belly dragger in every sense of the term. This calf was raised on our son Cashs little commercial 2nd calver and she did a great job on him. The calf came in off grass pretty close to as big as the cow and again that’s with no creep. If soft made, no maintenance cattle with a big time cow behind him are what you’re after this may very well be your guy.

The Swayze bull in general has bred very good for us leaving us with a large set of daughters who are now milking and they look fantastic! On the bottom side of the pedigree is a cow purchased from the great Mader program. One of the few Liberator bulls in the sale who were so popular last year. We never ended up walking Liberator this year and just AIed a few cows. The 16H bull himself is a larger framed bull like his dam and a bull that will put some pounds in some calves come fall. We talked last year a lot about the Liberator bull and what a specimen he is and the same holds true to this day. A bull overwhelming as far as body mass, but gets out and moves like a cat.

LOT 42: Here is our 5 yr old boy Cash’s first ever bull to sell! Cash named this guy Ice Breaker as his mom’s name is Waterfall and his dad’s name is Circuit Breaker.
I was pretty impressed to say the least! Ice Breaker will be easy to find on sale day with his dark red color, big rib and calving ease head. He is actually a ¾ blood bull that has really turned out for Cash. This first calf momma was kept back in the replacement pen and just happened to be cycling the day I was AIing another heifer and we threw a straw in her and out came this guy! A real calving ease option who should have some friends come sale day.

LOT 43: Here is our daughter Marley’s second lot in this year’s sale and a full brother to the famous Guacamole bull she sold last year to Brad Hines for $10,000.
Again with the perfect blaze and deep red color as Guacamole had, but with probably a little more of a calving ease head and shoulder. A real candidate for the heifer pen we believe. Marley got this guy named before dad could throw in his 2 cents and he is known as Ernie. Again a ¾ blood bull who will be registered as half blood with the Simmental Assoc. Feel free to ask Marley about Ernie and she would be happy to chat!

We had a little bad luck with Rival the first year breeding so we were limited in the number of sons this first year, but he bred like a champ that next year and we can’t wait to show off the exceptional set of sons that will walk through the ring next year. The 21H bull has been very popular from a young age and was constantly being picked out while on his beautiful dam 2 summers ago. as both bulls looked so close as calves on grass. The Rooster bull is just packed full of red meat with a great big hip on him. He probably is a tick hairier then his brother, but has that identical blood red color that we all love. Every time I was asked in the summer or this fall which bulls we had coming that were ones to watch for I mentioned this bull and for good reason. He will be popular come sale day no doubt.

Wallgren Farms have been great to work with as they continually strive to produce and develop elite Simmental cattle. Brant is as keen as any young person in the industry and has done a great job in developing this consistent set of bulls. The bulls are developed on grass with their dams and then moved onto a balanced TMR that promotes lean muscle growth. Organic minerals are used to ensure proper immune function and the overall health of the bulls. The nutritional health and development of the bulls and the entire cowherd is of utmost importance and is continually being tweaked to meet environmental and seasonal conditions. If you have any questions about the nutrition program of the Wallgren bulls, feel free to call.

It’s always a pleasure working alongside the Waltz family and also the great team at Bohrson Marketing. Our farm is based just 10 miles north of Edgerton AB. We farm roughly 1700 acres, and run a small of 30-40 purebred Simmental cows that we continue to build and expand on. We also have roughly 120 commercials cows and we always sell a some commercial breds every fall. Our commercial cattle play a big part in our ET program as we calve those cows early with the purebreds. Our embryo program has created a new and fresh lineup of genetics and we implant from 20-25 every spring. This is the 4th lineup of bulls we ever had on offer and it’s a group that’s been fun to watch grow over the last year. Our bulls are fed on a TMR based ration from Bulleyes. LOTS 51, 52, 53: We feel like these 3 brothers are an accurate representation of the bulls we are striving to produce, and they’re ones we are dang proud of. It has
been very exciting to watch these bulls continue to push of be the best in the bullpen, and we are still undecided on which one we like more. All 3 have been very steady in type since day 1, and we have yet to ever raise brothers that have been so consistent. The Betts cattle have been very sought after and they are type that are just simply good. At every stage of development his progeny have shown extreme muscle shape, big rib and attractive presence. We admire the progeny we have seen from Betts and we will continue to use him. His dam Soda Pop 417B donor is a awesome uddered, good footed, attractive made and the ideal type to build around. Cream soda genetics are as sought after as any. Cow families are stacked in this pedigree, with combining some on the most elite donors in the breed, Sage, Cream Soda, and Scream. High stakes 58J is one that has that unmistakable Betts presence and body. A dark red package that is strong topped, attractive fronted, thick haired, big boned, and massive hipped. 58J may arguably be one of the most complete bulls we have raised yet. Lottery 56J is hands down the stoutest bull we have ever raised. An easy fleshing, huge middled, massive hipped individual. The more moderate bull of the 3 brothers, but one that has exceeded our standards on the performance side of things. Since a calf this guy has been just so stout and massive made, and has always had that herdbull characteristic to him. Longshot 57J is our biggest performing bull we have raised to date. Weaning off at 1020 end of August, and weighing 1460 end of December. 57J is a one that will leave you a tremendous set of calves and ones that will push the scale down!
