VALENTINE GIFTS • MAYORAL CANDIDATES AUTO SHOW - INTRODUCING ASK ACE
If the old saying that “politics make strange bedfellows” is true, Rahm Emmanuel may have gotten a metaphorical case of blue balls. As I write this he’s just been kicked off the ballot, but by the time you read this he may be back on, or maybe not. In any case, in this issue we offer you some pearls of wisdom from the web sites of the four leading candidates. If you’re undecided, take a look at what they say that impacts our community – or more precisely, what they don’t say. I can tell you, after researching the candidates for that article certainly changed my mind. Talking about odd bedfellows, as a little Valentine’s Day treat we offer up some ideas for sexy Valentine’s Day gifts. On the flipside we also have some horror stories of dates gone horrifically wrong, that will either make you glad your relationship is in better shape, or happy to be single. And, if you’re thinking of giving you sweetheart a car, check out our coverage of the Chicago Auto Show. Of course, in addition to all that we’ve got the usual buffet of inside gossip, hot dish, snarky remarks and a bio of Robert, our 28yr old cover boi. In this issue we are introducing our new columnist Ace Magyar. Ace will make a nice addition to our editorial staff with his advice on relationships and sex, just in time for the valentine mating season.

After a long dry spell I met two guys within a few days of each other; Chad and Robert. I dated both for a couple of months. I decided I liked Robert better, so when Chad asked me out for Valentine’s Day, I told him as nicely as I could that I really liked him, but not that way and hoped we could be friends. He didn’t take it well. On Valentine’s Day, Robert and I went out for a romantic dinner. We had a drink in the bar and everything was going great until we went to our table and saw our waiter. It was Chad! He didn’t say a word, so I thought everything was going to be all right. That is, until an entire plate of spaghetti landed on my lap. Chad apologized profusely and I couldn’t say anything since I hadn’t acknowledged that we knew each other. We did get dinner for free though. -Marty
Thief in the Night
The guy I’d been dating for a couple of weeks, Tico, was really hot, and kind of rich. He drove a vintage BMW convertible and insisted on paying for everything. He asked me to meet him at a fancy restaurant on Valentine’s Day. When I got there, he wasn’t there. I checked with the host about the reservation, it was for an hour later than I thought. I didn’t think it was much of a big deal. I sat at the bar and had a cocktail, then another, then another. About a half hour after our reservation I was about to give up and go home when my cell rang. I was asked if I’d accept a collect call from...Tico! He had been stopped driving a stolen car and had a warrant out for credit card fraud. I never saw him again, but I found he’d been using my own credit cards when he took me out. -Thomas
High School Crush
Jack was the captain of the basketball team, an A+ student, and all-around good guy I had a crush on all through high school in the early ‘70s. For our ten year reunion, I mentioned my involvement with gay groups in my bio inside the program book. It wasn’t a big surprise to most people. When I saw Jack, he looked as good as he always did. At one point during the night came over and asked for my card. He called a few weeks later and asked if we could meet and talk. My first thought was that he was going to come out to me, or beat me up. It was Valentine’s Day so I suggested we meet for a drink. He didn’t want to meet in public, so 10 boi
I invited him over. I arranged for some friends to call me from the bar on the corner about 15 minutes after he got there in case I needed help. Jack was right on time, and after we settled in with drinks, he said that he wanted to meet with me because he had some questions. Then he tried to sell me Amway products. When the phone call came, it gave me the perfect excuse to hustle my ass out of there. -Alex
Do Fries Go With That?
When I lived in Florida I had just broken up with my ex, when one of her friends called and asked if I wanted to go to Universal Studios. She knew that I’m a freak for roller-coasters and I think she’d been waiting for me and my ex to break up so that she could make her move. It was great, she made me laugh and we ate cotton candy and junk food. She said she loved coasters too and I thought she did until after we were stepping off one and she threw up all over me, from my face to my toes.. yuck! -Tammy
Charlie’s Angel
My worst date ever didn’t happen on Valentine’s Day, but it ended on it. I had broken up after a five year relationship and had been feeling pretty bad about myself. I stopped working out and gained a lot of weight. So, when a hot guy sized me up as I was walking home from the bar one night, well it wasn’t hard to talk me out of my pants. We went to my place, I fixed us a drink and…that’s all I remember until the next morning when I woke up to find my place ransacked and everything of value missing. The police said not to expect much, that there’d been a rash of similar incidents. Six months later I’d lost 40 pounds, shaved my beard and felt much better about myself. I’m sitting at the original Gentry and this guy starts flirting with me. I suddenly realized that it was the guy who robbed me. I set up a date for the next day (Valentine’s Day). I called the police and they said to call them from the bar if I was sure it was him. We met at the bar, I went to the rest room and called the police officer I had spoken to earlier and he sent a squad car over. The cops walked up behind him as he was facing me and asked me if I was certain that this was the man. He looked at the cops, then to me as if to ask WTF? I channeled my best Farrah Fawcett and said, “You’re under arrest, sugar.” -Jason
Chicago has always been a one-party town and Chicago elections are non-partisan (meaning you don’t have to declare a party preference). However, that party has had more factions working for and against each other than any two or three party system. The upcoming mayoral election is no different. After all the dust has cleared Chicagoans are left with four viable candidates for the Feb. 22 election. It’s often difficult to decide between candidates with similar views in many areas, all mayoral candidates have made pro-GLBT statements. We’ve researched the candidates and their web sites. We list the stats for each candidate, and the addresses of their campaign web sites. Sometimes what isn’t there is as revealing as what is. For example, only Rahm Emmanuel and Gery Chico directly address issues regarding the GLBT community.

Hello everyone! A little about myself.. My name is Rob. I’m 28, born in and raised in Miami, Florida. I love traveling and am constantly trying to re-invent myself. At this time I’m single, I recently relocated to Chicago to live on my own and begin a future with someone that I truly care about. Since moving to Chicago a few months ago, I haven’t had much time to date. Relocating was a lot more difficult than I expected, and moving from Miami to Chicago during the winter wasn’t the best idea I’ve ever had. However, now that I’m settled in and have found a job, I’m very happy I made the move. People here are very welcoming and I hear Chicago has a lot to offer during the summer, so I’m really looking forward to the warm weather and looking forward to making new friends. I have a new job at a community bank which I like and find very interesting. I graduated with my Associate’s in Business Administration from Miami Dade College and I will begin my Bachelor’s in Business Administration, with hopes of one day becoming a successful in Travel or Hospitality management. However, I wish to discover new talents within myself and I am open to new ideas.
Although my modeling experience is limited, I believe I have what it takes to build a successful modeling career. I believe that with a strong work ethic and positive attitude, anything is possible! I find modeling as a great way of self expression; a photo can reveal and be interpreted in many different ways, which is what I find most interesting. I hope to gain more experience in modeling and make friends and contacts with fellow models in the industry. When asked by the editors if I had a best or worst Valentine date story... Yes, I met a guy in January of last year. We dated a few times and he invited me on a Valentines “date”.. when we got to the restaurant, they happened to seat us right next to a table close to another couple. One of the guys happened to be his ex (which before the night I didn’t know who his ex was), who was on a date with another guy. That wasn’t the worst part... Months before, I slept with his ex. boi 21
Screen Savor - Video Valentines by Gregg Shapiro Do you love Cher? Just in time for Cher’s return to the big screen in “Burlesque”, a six-DVD anthology of her movies, “Cher: The Film Collection” has arrived for her fans, gay and straight alike. Perhaps it’s meant to remind us of the broad range of films in which the singer-turned-actress has appeared. From her 1967 movie debut alongside ex-husband, the late Sonny (Bono) in “Good Times” to the Mike Nichols helmed biopic “Silkwood” to her Oscarwinning performance in “Moonstruck” to openly gay filmmaker Franco Zeffirelli’s autobiopic “Tea With Mussolini (alongside Lily Tomlin). Cher’s films are as varied as her recording career. Unfortunately, the package excludes two of her best performances in films from other studios (“Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean” and “Mask”), but it nevertheless displays her development as an actress over the course of more than 30 years. Do you love drama? An artistic gay high school student Sequan (Derrick L. Middleton) leaves New York for Jefferson, Alabama, and moves in with relatives following the sudden death of his mother in “Rivers Wash Over Me”. He shares a room with his cousin Michael (Cameron Mitchell Mason), the star forward on the varsity basketball team, who essentially begins to rape and terrorize Sequan on a regular basis. Michael’s mother LuEllen (Leslie Jones) knows something is going on under her roof, but she can’t quite figure it out. Sequan’s Uncle Charlie (Darien Sills-Evans), the town sheriff, tries to keep an eye on his nephew, but he’s also limited in what he can do for him. The overuse of stereotypes and caricatures bogs the movie down on occasion, but the story of redemption provides some balance. 22 boi
Do you love laughs? A cyber-gay Cyrano de Bergerac, “Is It Just Me?” takes the mistaken identity rom-com in a different direction. Cute as a button Blaine (Nicholas Downs) feels like he is invisible in his WeHo neighborhood. “Alone at sea in an ocean of beautiful men” is how he puts it in his column in USA To-Gay. His gym-bunny/stripper roommate Cameron (Adam Huss) feels the exact opposite. He’s an egotistical Adonis who sells his used underwear for $20. Blaine meets Xander (David Loren), a fan of his column in an on-line chat room. Because Blaine’s roommate Cameron was previously on the computer, his profile and picture are what Xander sees. They move from chatting on-line to a phone call, to phone sex. After that, there’s nothing left to do but arrange to meet at a coffeehouse. What starts out as a simple case of mistaken identity escalates into a battle of Blaine’s brains versus Cameron’s brawn. The three male leads are all terrific, both dressed and undressed. Do you love lesbian moms? The kids really are all right, it’s the adults that are all fucked up in “The Kids Are All Right”, from lesbian filmmaker Lisa Cholodenko (“High Art,” “Laurel Canyon”). Joni (Mia Wasikowska) and Laser (Josh Hutcherson) are the teenage offspring of an alternatively inseminated lesbian couple Nic (Annette Bening, in the most nuanced performance of her career) and Jules (Julianne Moore). Joni and Laser decide to contact their biological father/sperm donor, Paul (Mark Ruffalo), who donated sperm to a sperm bank when he was 19 and forgot about it. Paul, a successful restaurateur and operator of an organic co-op farm meets with Joni and Laser. It’s only a matter of time until everything begins to unravel at a rapid rate. Cholodenko and straight co-screenwriter Stuart Blumberg have written dialogue that is snappy and honest (one of the best depictions of lesbian-speak ever!). The acting by the ensemble is first rate and Cholodenko continues to be one of the finest directors of her generation. DVD bonus features include commentary by Cholodenko, three featurettes and more.

Night At The Museum
A new 1,600-square-foot gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender history museum opened in San Francisco last month. Visitors can see exhibits as varied as the kitchen table and pink-framed sunglasses that belonged to Harvey Milk, the first elected openly gay politician in California, early gay newspapers and sex toys. We’re happy to introduce our latest columnist Ace Magyar. Ace, an expert on sex and relationships, will appear on a regular basis answering your questions. Confused on Cornelia I met an older guy, a hot daddy type, in one of the bars on Halsted,. We went back to his place and started making out. At one point I was on the sofa with my pants around my ankles and he was kneeling in front of me sucking me off. It felt so good and I started to run my fingers through his hair which came off in my hands. It was a toupee. He was so into what he was doing that he didn’t even notice. I didn’t know what to do, put it back, set it aside or say something. Thankfully I didn’t lose my erection, and I put it back on his head, so he had no idea. If this happens again what should I do? Dear C.C. If this happens again?!?!?! Well, this is certainly a question that Miss Manners will never get. I applaud your…endurance, and I think you handled the situation as well as can be expected. Guys are really touchy about hairpieces. Some like to believe that nobody notices the dead squirrel on their head, while others are pretty upfront about it. Until you know how a guy feels about his piece, keep your hands to yourself or play with his nipples (hopefully those won’t come off.) Embarrassed in Edgewater I met a guy at an adult bookstore and we really hit it off. We’ve been going out for a while, but I haven’t introduced him to my

friends or even mentioned him. I’m afraid someone will ask where we met and I’ll look like a slut if I tell the truth. I haven’t met any of his friends yet, and I think he may be facing the same issue I am. What can I do? I really like this guy. Dear E.E. You can say that you met in a bookstore and let people assume it was a branch of Borders. You met this guy in an adult bookstore, so I’m assuming that you two have swapped some fluids, but you haven’t worked up the nerve to ask him if he’s told his friends about you? You should be able to discuss this with him, at the very least. If not, maybe you need to rethink the relationship. Peeved in Pilsen My girlfriend and I have been together for six months. The other day she was watching the Bears-Packers play-off football game and I felt a little frisky, so I sat on the couch next to her and started stroking her and letting her know I was in the mood. She didn’t seem interested so I took off all my clothes and stood in front of the TV in my bra and panties waving a dildo. She tackled me to the floor and fucked me hard while she continued watching the game. To my surprise, I found it sexy and came in waves. I’ve asked her to do it again, but she will only do it when the Bears play the Packers. I need sex more often than that. Dear P.P. You could try talking to your girlfriend about this and maybe come up with some other team match-ups that she’d agree to. Or, you could DVR the next Bears-Packers game and replay it whenever you’re in the mood. Ace Magyar has a BA in communications, a MA in sex therapy and a PHD in zoology.
