Efficient Use of Downtime High Quality Downtime

Your downtime is very important to accomplishing your goals because it gives you the opportunity for self-care and for reflection. The secret to getting more downtime is to create more downtime! In other words, schedule your downtime in and make it a habit.

Plan your Downtime

Be proactive when it comes to planning your downtime. Tired and overworked people don’t perform well. Yes, planning takes a little time, but with a plan in place it allows the rest and recuperation needed to perform at your peak. • Create a running list of ideas, events, ways to volunteer, trips, books and places that inspire you to use when you have downtime to plan. • Set specific times for tasks, rest, family, friends, appointments and keep to the schedule.

Make Family Time a Positive Priority

The stronger you build your relationships within your family, the more you’ll be able to look to them for support. It’s not about spending huge amounts of time with them, it’s making the delegated time really count with intentional positive involvement and true emotional connection. • Find a common interest you share and create ongoing activities you can build on. • If you’ve been meaning to reach out to a family member, plan a fun date night, activity or a family trip, this is the time to do so. Surround Yourself with People you Enjoy Build your social scene with friends you actually want to be with. Friendships help you celebrate life, support you through difficult times, introduce you to new hobbies, and open you up to new opportunities. • Let go of toxic friends that drain you. • Make use of your downtime with friends that want to see you succeed. The ones that see the greatness within you even when you don’t, energize you and encourage you to keep moving forward.

You Time

Know the difference of healthy vs unhealthy people pleasing behaviors. Don’t sacrifice your downtime to be a people

pleaser. Self-love is essential and needed to stay on your path which allows you the energy to serve others. • Create downtime doing what you enjoy. • Exercise your body, do something to improve yourself or a skill, start a new project. • Delegate and empower others or pay people to do the jobs you don’t want to do.

Downtime for Your Brain

Use downtime for self-examination and to clear out the mental clutter to bring back a sense of calm and peace. We all have our moments of constant mind chatter that brings on stress and anxiety, but you are not the thoughts in your head. You are the witness, the one who sees that you are not your thoughts. Let go of these thoughts and the physiological symptoms they bring on and get into the powerful present moment. Life is now. Relax the mind Trusted news sources, self-improvement books and high-quality blogs are great reading material to engage your mind. Don’t reach for your phone or a device whenever you’re bored, schedule breaks from electronics to help you relax or focus on things you crave to do when your busy. You need this precious mental downtime. The key to starting any new habit is to get started, start small, just get into the routine of doing it. Time is precious and how you use that time is so importance. Don’t waste your life following other people and doing unnecessary things. Have clarity and grasp the overall direction of your life. You must know where you’re going and why. Make the downtime space in your calendar. It will renew you, your strength and your mindset. As you go along you can mold and prefect the plan. You will find yourself spending more time enjoying your life rather than waiting to figure out what you should be doing. Om Shanti. Om Peace.

HELPFUL WAYS TO Get Rid of Belly Fat There are a lot of suggested methods surrounding belly fat and how to get rid of it. De-bloating often congers up thoughts of strict diets and grueling fitness regimens. For most, these routines are incredibly difficult to stick with having a nine-to-five schedule, and fitness and nutrition shouldn’t be about punishing yourself. Here are a few tips to consider. Avoid Drinking Liquid with Meals This strategy may seem odd, but it’s said to greatly improve the state of your stomach. The idea behind this is by drinking water with meals, you are diluting your digestive juices and slowing down digestion that is cutting into your energy. Though it’s important to keep hydrated throughout the day, ease off during mealtime to keep digestion clear. Eat Protein When You Wake Up Just as you should end your day with protein to help your body repair itself overnight, kickstarting your day in the same manner. A highprotein breakfast can turn your metabolism up even more and give you a nice energy boost. Protein has long been proven to be thermogenic, meaning it makes you burn fat. Turning on your fat-burning engine first thing in the morning should keep your metabolism going for the rest of the day. Add Fiber and Healthy Fat to Your HighProtein Breakfast In addition to protein, you may want to incorporate fiber and healthy fats into your breakfast. This will improve your digestion and make you feel fuller and lighter on your feet for the rest of the day. After a few days of doing this, you should find yourself eating less for lunch and dinner than you normally would. When crafting a healthy energyboosting breakfast, one ingredient to definitely steer clear of is sugar, because it will spike your cravings and ruin the benefits of your breakfast. Incorporate Probiotics into Your Diet Simply upping your intake of probiotic-rich foods can help to reduce the bloat around your midsection, which is often confused with belly fat. While you can get a healthy serving via yogurt, kombucha, and other fermented foods, you can also easily get a daily dose taking a probiotic supplement. In addition to resetting your stomach and leading to long-term weight loss, especially around the midsection, probiotics are one of the keys to ultimate nutrient absorption, energy, and having awesome, youthful skin.

Drink Tea with an Herbal Laxative A quick and easy way to get a flatter stomach is to have a tea with a herbal laxative. It can help clear out the system for a flatter belly. It’s important to note, though, that herbal laxatives aren’t recommended for weight loss but may only be used occasionally to stimulate the digestive system. Lower Your Sodium and Dairy Intake All experts agree that cutting back on certain foods is essential to beating belly fat, including salty foods which cause the body to hold on to water. This is not easy for most, but simply being conscious that high-sodium foods cause bloating can help persuade you to make healthier decisions. Try swapping out salt for seasoned herbs to enhance flavor. The second food to be wary of is dairy. You can simply replace dairy items with almond milk, almond cheese, coconut yogurt, and the whole range of dairy-free items that are readily available. Eat Protein Just Before Bed When one imagines strategies for eliminating belly fat, eating isn’t at the top of the list. However, so much of how you can reset your stomach starts with what you put in it. Try getting a healthy dose of protein right before you go to sleep for the night. Filling up on a meal of protein and leafy greens will ensure your body doesn’t hold on to water when you wake up the next morning. Protein before bed has shown clinically to boost your metabolism the next morning. Plus, it helps your body repair itself more effectively while you sleep, so you wake up feeling fresher. Try a half of grilled chicken breast or a scoop of protein powder. Get More Sleep Last but not least is the belly fat reducing habit that’s one of the easiest. Getting more sleep. One overlooked and easily fixable reason you’re not losing belly fat is simply that you are not getting enough sleep. Research has found that sleep deprivation messes with your metabolism, thus making it difficult to burn fat cells. Get some quality shut-eye to allow your body to get to work on itself while you catch some Zzzzzzzs. According to the National Sleep Foundation, adults need seven to nine hours of sleep per night. Meet Geno Bahena

Director of Operations and Chef De Cuisine of Mis Moles Restaurant Get ready for the much anticipated grand opening of Mis Moles restaurant, coming soon to 3661 N. Elston Ave in Chicago, just north of Addison St. Mis Moles promises to be a vibrantly new Mexican restaurant and tequila bar led by renowned Chef Geno Bahena as Culinary Director and as Chef de Cuisine. Mis Moles plans to be open within the next few weeks and will offer authentic, contemporary Mexican food and craft cocktails prepared with market fresh ingredients. No stranger to the Chicago market, Chef Geno Bahena grew up on a cattle ranch in the middle of two orchards growing all kinds of legumes, vegetables and exotic fruits, making cheese and dairy products in the state of Guerrero in Mexico, however, it was cooking and not ranching that captured his imagination. Years spent in the kitchen helping his mother and grandmother prepare meals for the field hands led to a move to the United States to pursue a culinary degree at St. Augustine College in Chicago Chef Bahena was hand-picked by Branko to lead the day-to-day kitchen at Mis Moles, which is scheduled to open in Jun 2020. At Mis Moles, Chef Bahena will execute a menu that features contemporary takes on authentic regional cuisine, while celebrating market-fresh, seasonal ingredients that are enhanced by an extensive tequila collection. “My passion is the cuisine from my native Mexico,” said Chef Bahena. “I juggle a bit in the kitchen, on one hand preserving old culinary customs from my home, while always finding a way to innovate, preparing food that departs from the mainstream Mexican cuisine found in the United States.”

After graduating from St. Augustine College in 1986, Chef Bahena came to the attention of Chef Rick Bayless of the acclaimed Frontera Grill. Under Chef Bayless’ tutelage, Chef Bahena rose from line cook to managing Chef. He then went on to open a number of restaurants, including Ixcapuzalco & Chilpancingo Restaurant, Real Tenochtitlan Restaurant and Dos Diablos Restaurant in Chicago, along with La Costa Mission Restaurant in Malibu, CA and Mojado Grill in Ventura, CA. Chef Bahena is also a founding member of Chef Collaborative 2000, an organization made up of hundreds of like-minded U.S. chefs and food professionals who are doing their part to create a better food system. Chef Bahena returned to academia, receiving a second culinary degree from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Pasadena, CA in 2015. Over the course of his career, Chef Bahena has cooked for presidents including Vicente Fox from Mexico and George W. Bush at the White House. He is excited to begin this next chapter of his career as Director operations and Chef De Cuisine at Mis Moles Mexican Restaurant & Tequila Bar where he will be turning wonderful products from the local market into stellar dishes for customers. When not in the kitchen, Chef Bahena can be found traveling to different parts of Mexico for his culinary research, at home in Chicago spending quality time with his family, and processing recipes for his feature cook book “A Taste of Elegance from the Heart of Mexico.” He is also passionate about teaching the art of real Mexican cooking and how to achieve truly authentic and delicious meals with bold flavors with tradition, love and inspiration. boiMAG 21

Responsible Recreational Use By Tom Reynolds

Long before legalization in Illinois was even a “pipe dream,” I was returning home on a 9-hour flight from Amsterdam, a slow descend back to my conservative midwestern homeland after a lifechanging semester abroad in The Netherlands, the “OG” of Cannabis legalization. The night before the flight was one last hurrah of hashish and Heineken, causing me to oversleep and rush to the airport, disheveled and wreaking of weed! I was sweating like a Bikram yogi when I arrived at US Customs to the sight of drug sniffing dogs. I must have checked my pockets a dozen times to make sure I wasn’t carrying anything more than the fragrance of a night in Amsterdam. Thankfully, the dog took no interest in me as I was corralled back into the “Land of the Free.” Ironic, huh? Fast-forward to Jan. 1st, 2020, the day the land of Lincoln emancipated cannabis and freed thousands of prisoners, doing time for non-violent crimes and disproportionately from minority communities. It’s a day I thought would never happen in my lifetime and it’s nice to have the option to relive a special chapter of my youth, minus the transatlantic flight and drug sniffing dogs. Even if recreational use is not for you, I hope you can appreciate the social progress made in criminal justice reform, individual liberties, and the economic benefit to our cash strapped state.

Only a matter of weeks into Illinois’s Jamaican haze honeymoon, the sobering reality of a global pandemic hits home, compromising our health, daily freedoms, employment, education, and our pent-up need to socialize after the long Chicago winter. Yes, the honeymoon is rightfully taking a back seat in our new reality however, the dispensaries are still operating due to their medicinal designation. For those of legal age and free of any occupational obligations and are considering a visit to the dispensary, here’s a practical guide to recreational use without the abuse: Getting Started: Where to Buy: As medicinal and recreational use has spread, you can get consistent, quality forms through dispensaries. Don’t hesitate to tell the “Budistas” if you are a first timer or have been on hiatus. They’ll make suggestions accordingly. Check out dispensary locations and make sure they explicitly state “recreational” as some are still medicinal only https:// weedmaps.com/dispensaries/in/ united-states/illinois What to Buy: In the current environment where health is a high priority for most people, edibles are the way to go so that you’re keeping your lungs healthy. Plus, you’ll know exactly how much you are ingesting and can avoid taking too much and not enjoying the experience. Err on the side of caution and start slow. (continued on a following page)

boiMAG 27

Responsible Recreational Use (Continued)

Have a Plan: Allow a window of 4-6 hours where you have no major obligations so that you can enjoy yourself and avoid stressful, awkward, or unsafe situation. With edibles, effects won’t kick in right away so be patient. Expect to peak around 90-120 minutes in, then effects will gradually taper off. THC can effect people in different ways and like anything, it takes a few tries to build a comfort level. Effects: How will it Feel?: THC can effect people differently yet a common thread is usually rooted in the individual’s mood at the time of using. Ex: If you’re watching a comedy movie, you might laugh harder. If you’re stressed, you may end up in a rough spot dwelling on your problems. In my experience, my mind shifts from “left-brain” logic dominant to a “right-brain” creative, so I seek settings that feed my heightened senses with music, nature, or other creative outlets. Activities: Movies/Television: A reliably safe option for beginners and old pros alike. Let entertainment feed your brain and you’ll pick up on details your un-high self would miss. You were going to binge watch Netflix anyway so why not add a twist? Phone a Friend: Following social distancing, let a trusted friend know what you are up to so you can have someone to chat with during your

28 boiMAG

experience. Bonus points if your friend is knowledgeable with the effects of pot and can act as your coach and perhaps join you in a coordinated effort. Household Chores: Turn mundane activities into a productive “metime” escape. Stick with the low skill activities like yard work, cleaning, organizing, etc. and avoid major projects that require deep focus and concentration. Active High: Your immediate surroundings can be very stimulating. If you have access to walking trails or natural scenery where social distancing is not a challenge, go for it! If you are an active person, low impact activities of stretching, yoga, jogging, shooting hoops, and golf are just the right tempo for an enjoyable body high. Stick with what is familiar. Avoid strenuous or dangerous activities where a mental lapse could be harmful to you or others such as driving, swimming, cycling, and contact sports. Overall, be a responsible user for your own safety and to show the world that we pragmatic Midwesterners can handle our individual freedoms and still keep it together. Remember that moderation is key and widespread abuse puts everyone at risk of returning to the dark days of prohibition and drug dogs. Afterall, the dogs are much happier now in their new role in stoner frisbee fetching.

Hyper-automation

Hyper-automation elevates task automation to the next level. It is the application of advanced technologies like Artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine learning (ML) to automate processes (not just tasks) in ways that are significantly more impactful than that of traditional automation capabilities. It’s the combination of multiple machine learning, packaged software and automation tools to deliver work. Hyper-automation requires a combination of tools to help support replicating pieces of where the human is involved in a task. This trend kicked off with robotic process automation (RPA) but will see growth with the combination of process intelligence, content intelligence, AI, OCR and other innovative technology.

Multi-experience

Multi-experience deals with the massive shift from a two-dimensional screen and keyboard interface to a much more dynamic, multi-modal kind of interface world where we’re immersed in the interactive technology and it surrounds us. Multi-experience currently focuses on immersive experiences that use augmented reality, virtual reality, mixed reality, multichannel human-machine interfaces and sensing technologies. AI enabled conversational platforms have changed the way in which people interact with the digital world. Beyond conversations, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) are changing how people perceive the digital world. This combined shift in both perception and interaction will result in the future multi-sensory and multimodal experience. Over the next decade, this trend will become what is known as ambient experience.

Democratization of Technology

Democratization of technology refers to the process by which access to technology rapidly continues to become more accessible to more people.

The democratization of technology means providing people with easy access to technical or business expertise without extensive or expensive training. This is already widely recognized with the rise of the citizen developer. Historically, automation was managed and deployed by IT, but the emergence of robotic process automation has changed that with the emergence of digital workers. We are now seeing a new generation of citizen developers, such as business analysts, who are closer to business challenges and can program and automate digital workers to help them do their work. This trend will focus on four key areas: application development, data and analytics, design, and knowledge. According to Gartner, these may be tools designed “to generate synthetic training data, which helps address a substantial barrier to ML model development.” New technologies and improved user experiences will empower those outside of the technical industry to access and use technological products and services.

Human Augmentation

Human augmentation explores how technology can be used to deliver cognitive and physical improvements as an integral part of the human experience. This augmentation is leveraging technology to increase human capabilities both physically and cognitively. Companies like Boston Dynamics have already developed a wide variety of human augmenting devices that can be used in factories or on the battlefield. We have already seen the proliferation of smart devices, and smart wearables. New applications include the use of these wearables to improve worker safety in the mining industry. In other industries, such as retail and travel, wearables could be used to increase worker productivity and increase human ability. boiMAG 31
