The Windy City Pet Expo invites attendees and their pets to explore more than 125 exhibitor booths featuring various unique pet products, pet clothing and accessories, pet treats and more. In addition, attendees can learn about local rescue organizations and how they can help save, foster, adopt or care for local animals in need. Other presentations will include a Q & A session with local pet professionals and a presentation about pet safety, first aid and care.

"Our goal is to make an impact with pet parents everywhere, improving the lives of pets” says Barnett. "We support adoption and rescue, positive reinforcement training methods and a pet/family relationship. We recognize that pets are family and want our show to reflect the special relationship between pets and parents.”

The free, indoor, and air-conditioned Windy City Pet Expo attracts more than 10,000 attendees along with their furry, feathered, and reptilian pals who are looking to enjoy a new and one-ofa-kind experience where all pets can enjoy a fun day or two out with their pet parent(s). All well-behaved pets are welcome, as long as they’re on a fixed lead (or in a carrier) and have proof of age-appropriate rabies vaccines. Some of the greatest moments in life include the day we met our pets for the first time, and the day we adopted them and they came home with us. Here are 10 things to consider before bringing a new dog or cat home. #1 Can You Commit? Will you have the time to walk your dog three times a day? Will you remember to exercise your cat every evening? If the answer is no, and you have no one who can perform those essential tasks, you should stop right here and consider a fish or a parakeet as a low-demand animal companion. Pet food, vet bills and everything a pet needs to live a happy healthy life can get expensive, which also is a financial commitment.

Interview Veterinarians Before the Adoption Before you have settled on the type of pet that will suit you, ask your friends for their veterinary recommendations. A veterinarian can be an excellent source of information to help you choose the best pet to suit your lifestyle and needs. Not all vets are the same, and you want a veterinarian that best matches your needs. This will be a lifelong relationship and as such, the choice is very important. Again, do your research. A guy walking his Chihuahua sees another man entering a bar with his Golden Lab & overhears the bartender say..... “You can’t bring that dog in here!” The man quickly replies... “This is my seeingeye dog.” “Oh man,” the bartender says, “I’m sorry. Here, the first drink’s on me.” The man takes his drink and goes to a table. So the guy watching all this figures he could do that too. So he walks into the bar with his Chihuahua and the bartender says... “Hey, you can’t bring that dog in here!” The second man replies... “This is my seeing-eye dog.” The bartender answers back... “No, I don’t think so. They do not use Chihuahuas as seeing-eye dogs.” The man pauses for just a split second and replies ..... “WHAT?!?! They gave me a Chihuahua?!?” There’s a man sitting on a park bench and a dog sitting beside him. A stranger passing by asks the man..... “Does your dog bite?” “No” the man answered. So the stranger bends down to pet the dog and the dog bites him! “I thought you said your dog doesn’t bite???” the man exclaimed. And the other man replied: “That’s not my dog!”

What is the best way to eat a frog? Put its legs behind its ears. A lonely woman buys a parrot for companionship. After a week, the parrot hasn’t uttered a word, so the woman goes back to the pet store and buys it a mirror. Nothing. The next week, she brings home a little ladder. Polly is still incommunicado, so the week after that, she gives it a swing, which elicits not a peep. A week later, she finds the parrot on the floor of its cage, dying. Summoning up its last breath, the bird whispers, “Don’t they have any food at that pet store?” A lady was walking past a pet store when a parrot said, “Hey, lady! You’re really ugly!” The lady was furious, but she continued on her way. On the way home, she passed by the pet store again, and the parrot once more said, “Hey, lady! You’re really ugly!” She was incredibly ticked now, so she went into the store to complain. The store manager apologized greatly and promised he would make sure the parrot didn’t say it again. The next day, she deliberately passed by the store to test the parrot. “Hey, lady!” it said. “Yes, she replied?” “You know.” A boy is selling fish on a corner. To get his customers’ attention, he is yelling, “Dam fish for sale! Get your dam fish here!” A pastor hears this and asks, “Why are you calling them ‘dam fish.’” The boy responds, “Because I caught these fish at the local dam.” The pastor buys a couple fish, takes them home to his wife, and asks her to cook the dam fish. The wife responds surprised, “I didn’t know it was acceptable for a preacher to speak that way.” He explains to her why they are dam fish. Later at the dinner table, he asks his son to pass the dam fish. His son responds, “That’s the spirit, Dad! Now pass the f*cking potatoes!” boiMAG 17
