Costumes for Hard Bodies Of course, if you’ve got the body for it, the following costumes are always impressive: David Beckham: wear underwear, spike your hair and add tattoos if you don’t have them. Cop: blue Speedo, a set of handcuffs and a badge drawn onto your chest with an eyebrow pencil Fireman: red Speedo, boots and fireman’s hat Lumberjack: Speedo or jock strap, wide red suspenders, knit cap and an ax. If it’s cold, add a flannel shirt, unless you’re a lesbian. Tarzan: loincloth or animal print fabric pinned to a pair of underwear Baby: wear an adult diaper. Add a pacifier or rattle so they don’t think you’re just incontinent. A baby bottle filled with tequila, keeps the party going all night long. Drink enough of it and that diaper might come in handy. Superhero: Use body paint or have someone airbrush the costume, all you’ll need is something to cover (and keep warm) the naughty bits.
LEGACY WALK by Rick Karlin
Phase IV Unveiled
The Legacy Project, which honors the historical and/or cultural contributions of LGBT individuals, installed five additional bronze plaques in a ceremony on Oct. 10. The tributes join the 30 plaques already displayed on the Legacy Walk along Halsted. The plaques honor: Legendary composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein who bridged pop culture ("West Side Story") and classical music. Josephine Baker, the legendary entertainer from the 1920s Harlem Renaissance moved to Paris and became an international superstar. During World War II she became part of the underground resistance fighting the Nazis; then returned to the U.S. in the 1960s to become a civil rights leader. Internationally renowned ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev. After defecting to the U.S. from the Soviet Union in 1961, he redefined the male role in dance through his intense physicality.
Billy Strayhorn composed many hits for Duke Ellington, among others, he would be celebrating his centennial this year. The final plaque being dedicated this year commemorates the fate of the homosexual men and women who suffered at the hands of the Nazis during the Holocaust of WWII.. The plaque explains how the pink triangle, once a symbol of Nazi oppression, came to stand as a potent universal symbol of LGBT Pride. Dr. Danny Cohen from Northwestern University, an expert on Holocaust studies consulted on the creation of the memorial. With the inclusion of this year’s inductees, the half-mile-long Legacy Walk outdoor museum – the only installation of its kind in the world, now features 35 bronze memorials. An additional event will take place Oct. 17 from 2–5 p.m. at Sidetrack. At that time, Progressive Talk Radio personalities Scott Duff and Ellen Miller will host a reception featuring cocktails, hors d’oeurves, raffles prizes and a silent auction. OUT-Look LGBT-Themed Films at the 51st Chicago International Film Festival The 51st Chicago International Film Festival, running Oct. 15-29, announced the lineup for OUT-Look, its competitive LGBTQ+ program that showcases new artistic perspectives on sexuality and identity. From big stars to first-time filmmakers, the thirteen films included in this annual program compete for the Chicago International Film Festival’s Q Hugo Award.
The international OUT-Look program is inclusive of a variety of LGBTQ+ experiences, ranging from Carol, the story of a love affair between a wealthy housewife (Cate Blanchett) and a young shop clerk (Rooney Mara, winner of the Best Actress award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival) to I Am Michael, based on the controversial true story of Michael Glatze, a one-time gay-rights activist turned straight, conservative pastor. I Am Michael features outstanding performances by James Franco and Zachary Quinto. In a year that saw transgender actress Laverne Cox on the cover of “Time” magazine, the Chicago International Film Festival’s OUT-Look program offers four films that explore gender fluidity: Sworn Virgin stars Alba Rohrwacher as a woman who lived as a man in her Albanian village for more than 14 years; the multi-award-winning Polish

documentary Call Me Marianna, about Marianna’s male-to-female transition as family and friends abandon her; the taboo-busting, Swedish teen-fable Girls Lost; and the intriguing noir Carmín Tropical, set in the mixed gender community of Juchitán, Mexico. “Since its inception, the Chicago International Film Festival has programmed films that explore issues of sexuality and identity,” says founder & artistic director Michael Kutza. “This year’s international selection of films in OUT-Look are strong and the subjects are relevant. They provide us with a variety of stories and perspectives that reflect LGBTQ+ issues happening around the world.
All films listed will receive their Chicago premiere at the festival unless otherwise indicated. Festival screenings will be held at the AMC River East 21 Theater. Tickets may be purchased by calling 312-332-FILM (3456) or online at www.ChicagoFilmFestival.com/tickets.
QMUSIC By Gregg Shapiro
There’s an ongoing debate among classic rock lovers: The Beatles or the Rolling Stones. Really, it’s that simple. But the simplicity excludes countless other acts who may have launched in the 1960s, but remain just as pertinent, fifty or so years later. Simon & Garfunkel is definitely one such act. The six LP box set The Complete Columbia Albums Collection arrives less than a year after the extensive and thorough 11 CD 2014 box set of the same name. Featuring the duo’s six main albums newly remastered on 180-gram vinyl, ranging from 1964’s Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. to 1972’s Greatest Hits, and naturally includes Bookends and Bridge Over Troubled Water, the set also includes digital download codes for each record, as well as a poster and an 18 page booklet. If you haven’t gotten your fill of Paul and Art, their historic 1981 “reunion” concert album, The Concert In Central Park, has been reissued in a couple of formats. The two LP set, remastered from analog tapes, is available on 180-gram vinyl. If you want a visual to complete the experience, the Deluxe Edition of The Concert In Central Park CD/DVD features two songs from Simon’s solo oeuvre, “The Late Great Johnny Ace” and “Late In The Evening,” only available on DVD. Elvis Presley has an indelible link to Memphis. The double disc 40th anniversary expanded reissue of Today, the King’s final album to be released during his lifetime, features the legend adorned in his Vegas finery

Reissue Report on the cover. However, the music is unapologetically “countrypolitan,” as if you can take the King out of Memphis, but you can’t take Memphis out of the king. The first of the two disc set contains the original album, along with the “undubbed session mixes” making this worth having today. The second live disc was recorded on tour during May and June 1975. British post-punk icons Joy Division only released two albums, but what albums they were! Unknown Pleasures from 1979 and Closer from 1980, are regularly included on lists of the best albums of the 1970s and 1980s. Front-man Ian Curtis’ 1980 suicide put a sudden stop to the band’s promising future (although surviving band members went on to form New Order). As the cover states, Substance, originally released in 1988, covers the period 1977-1980, and includes Joy Division standards such as “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” “She’s Lost Control,” “Transmission,” “Atmosphere” and “Dead Souls.” The newly expanded reissue also includes two additional tracks, “As You Said,” and the Pennine version of “Love Will Tear Us Apart.” With a growl that would make Courtney Love green with envy, it’s hard to understand how Kim Shattuck and her band The Muffs weren’t a bigger success. The considerably expanded reissue of The Muffs’ eponymous major-label debut rocks hard enough, especially on “Better Than Me.” Mostly the songs are power-pop pleasers including “From Your Girl,” “Everywhere I Go” and “Not Like Me.” The 10 bonus tracks include 4-track demos, a radio remix and a cassette version.

Motor Mouth By Parker Carr
I admit it, although I love the sporty performance cars, my heart belongs to those sporty mini-SUV crossovers. Sports cars are like the boys I drooled over in school; sleek gorgeous, but out of my league financially (the cars, not the boys-I never thought to offer them money). The mini-SUV is more like the kind of guys I would have ended up with (if I was out in high school), a little boxy, not the best for performance, but lovable in their own right. The crossover SUV combines the genetic makeup of the car with that a hint of off-road capability, whether they are ever driven off-road is beside the point, we just want to feel sporty. The smaller crossovers do the same thing on a smaller scale. This is one case where I want something smaller. It appears as if I am not alone. The small-crossover SUV found a place in almost every maker’s 2016 line.

Professional Spotlight Hair Apparent Like many men, William Yates has battled hair loss. Unlike many men he not only did something about it, it became his life’s work. He explains, “Even though I was successful in school and my career, I always felt self-conscious about my hair loss. I started losing my hair when I was in my 20s. My friends still had full heads of hair and it always bothered me when we were out. I had a hair transplant when I was 29 and it worked great! I loved getting the frame of my face back and making my forehead and head smaller!" For most men host hair loss is genetic or the result of typical male pattern baldness called androgenetic alopecia. That differs from hair loss or alopecia related to illness, in which the hair grows back once the illness is resolved unless there is a genetic component as well. For those battling permanent hair loss. Specializing in hair restoration services using minimally invasive techniques for hair transplant surgery, Yates performs all procedures by hand or utilizing the ARTAS robotic hair transplant system. Dr. Yates utilizes the follicular unit extraction (FUE ) technique for hair transplantation. FUE eliminates the need for the cutting, stitches, pain and scars associated with the early hair transplants. In addition, Yates offers scalp micropigmentation (SMP), platelet-rich-plasma therapy (PRP ) and stem cell therapy for hair growth.

Hair transplantation relocates hair from the back of the scalp , an area not affected by the balding process, to the top of the scalp. The technique allows the doctor to do facial hair transplants to make a beard, moustache or goatee or eyebrow transplants. Local anesthesia is given during the procedure and most patients experience no pain or even mild discomfort during the procedure. After the surgery, there may be some soreness or slight discomfort. Hair starts to grow at 2 months with every month getting more growth and thicker caliber. The cost of hair transplantation depends on the amount of hair being transplanted and is generally considered plastic surgery, therefore is not covered by medical insurance. However, financing options, from interest-free financing to longer term loans are available. Dr. Yates has offices in Vernon Hills and the Gold Coast and is the only surgeon on the practice. Among his support staff is his patient consultant Scott, who aids in educating patients and coordinating the surgery schedule. Scott has had several hair transplants himself, and serves as a "live example" of what type of results can be obtain with a hair transplant," explains Yates. Yates enjoys, his work, “Making a difference in people's lives and truly helping to restore their self-confidence. "I love it when my patients tell me all the time they've gotten a promotion or a new girlfriend because they are confident about their looks again.”
FIT TIPS
THe BB Upright Row:
By Michael Elder
Throughout the training arsenal, there are many great “postural” exercises; that is, exercises designed to correct or improve faulty posture. One very common faulty posture is rounded shoulders, which is commonly found in people who sit at computers all day. The musculature of the upper back becomes stretched out and weak, leading to weakness. One great postural exercise to help correct this is the BB Upright Row. When done correctly, this exercise effectively trains the shoulders as well as the lower traps. This exercise can be performed using a straight bar attached to a low pulley and it can also be performed using dumbbells, though this later exercise should be reserved by people that are well familiarized with correct execution. This exercise may be contraindicated for people with past shoulder problems such as impingement. The rule is this: if it hurts, don’t do it! But for the rest of

Grasp a barbell with an overhand grip that is slightly less than shoulder width. The bar should be resting on the top of your thighs with your arms extended and a slight bend in your elbows. Your back should also be straight. This will be your starting position. Exhale and use the sides of your shoulders to lift the bar, raising your elbows up and to the side. Keep the bar close to your body as you raise it. Continue to lift the bar until it nearly touches your chin. Your elbows should drive the motion, and should always be higher than your forearms. Remember to keep your torso stationary and pause for a second at the top of the movement. For further activation of the upper back, retract and squeeze the shoulder blades together. Lower the bar back down slowly to the starting position. Inhale as you perform this portion of the movement.
you, give this one a try, especially if you suffer from faulty posture in your upper back. Consistently stretching the pectorals can help as well. Let me know how it goes!
