Welcome from Avril O'Riordan and Vikki Eccles We are thrilled to welcome you to the Sheraton Grand to celebrate this special milestone with us; tonight marks the Silver Anniversary of the London Pink Ribbon Ball and it is so important to us that each year, we all come together for one reason: to raise vital funds for this charity so close to our hearts. We know that with your help, we can get closer to Breast Cancer Now’s ambitious goal that, by 2050, everyone who develops breast cancer will live – and receive the support they need to live well. Since the first Pink Ribbon Ball London 25 years ago, we have gone from strength to strength. Breast Cancer Campaign – as the charity was called at the time – was just about to fund its first major research project, supported by the Ball’s fundraising. This year, Breast Cancer Now has merged with Breast Cancer Care, uniting to make greater and faster progress. Since 1994, the Pink Ribbon Ball has raised more than £4.5million towards breast cancer research We want to raise just as much in the next 25 years and we know that with your support and generosity, we can do just that. If we raised £300,000 tonight, we could fund over two years of a cutting-edge breast cancer research project, or fund the helpline for more than 6 months. This could mean anything from finding new ways of preventing, detecting, treating and saving lives from breast cancer, to offering invaluable support to thousands of people affected by the disease. Tonight, we celebrate the strength of those among our friends and families who are living with, or beyond a breast cancer diagnosis. We also remember those that this disease has taken from us, honour their memory and pledge to create a future where nobody loses a loved one to breast cancer again. As co-chairs, we would like to say a huge thank you to the committee for their outstanding hard work and dedication. We have loved working with this great team of volunteers over the past year to make this an evening to remember. We also want to thank everyone who has been a member of this wonderful Committee over the past 25 years.
We hope everybody in the room enjoys the silverclad Sheraton Grand, the amazing food, and the fabulous entertainment. Together, let’s raise as much money as we can, spread the word about how research and support saves lives, and of course, have a fantastic evening with our friends, family and loved ones. Thank you for being here this evening for our 25th Pink Ribbon Ball. A silver anniversary is truly something to celebrate. A quarter of a century and an incredible commitment to helping to make life-saving breast cancer research happen, with over £4.5million being raised towards it in that time. All thanks to the generosity of Pink Ribbon Ball attendees, the fantastic efforts of the committee and the kindness of our sponsors. Thank you to all of you. Over the last 25 years, there has been an enormous amount of groundbreaking research funded, and we have seen incredible breakthroughs being achieved – more than I can possibly list. And thanks to all of this incredible progress, that was only made possible with the help of wonderful people like you, over the last 25 years, we have seen deaths from breast cancer reduce significantly. So, as we celebrate everything we have done in the past, it is also time to look forward. Breast Cancer Now is entering a new chapter, and your support has never been more vital.
Our unique combination of expertise means we can see the full impact breast cancer has on people’s lives and do all we can to make a difference. Funding the research, providing the caring support and information, and campaigning on the issues that will make the biggest impact. All the time building a clearer view of what we still need to do and the gaps we need to fill. The progress we have made is so encouraging. But we can’t stop now. One in seven women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. And the disease takes another life in the UK every 45 minutes. We believe, by 2050 everybody who develops breast cancer will live – and be supported to live well. But we must act now. Your host Jacquie Beltrao is the sports anchor on the Sky News Sunrise programme. She has presented Sky’s Wimbledon coverage for 13 years, worked on the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games, the US Open tennis and been a football reporter in the crazy early days of the Premier League. She is a former Olympic gymnast who represented Team GB in the Los Angeles Olympics of 1984. “I have had breast cancer myself and following my diagnosis and treatment in 2013 I have become incredibly passionate about raising awareness and funds for research”.

£50 Could spread the word about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer With your donation we can send out another 500 leaflets to doctors’ surgeries in the UK to promote breast checking, and inform about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer. That means more women might check their breasts when they wouldn’t have before, and know what to look out for.
£150 Could help prepare breast cancer cells from tumours donated to the Breast Cancer Now Tissue Bank In addition to samples of tumours donated by patients, the Breast Cancer Now Tissue Bank also provides both normal and cancerous breast cells. Scientists can request these cells from the Bank for their research. Having access to the most relevant patient samples, from a variety of breast cancer types, helps the discoveries scientists make to reach patients quicker.

Lot 1. Bespoke painting by Nahid Shahalimi Nahid Shahalimi lives in Munich, Germany with her two daughters. Forced to leave Afghanistan in 1985, and it is in Munich that she solidified her career as an author, a filmmaker, a human rights activist, an international consultant, a global speaker, a social impact entrepreneur and one of the most prolific international artists in the art world today. A few of her past projects are: The highly acclaimed “We The Women” series: portrait paintings, books & documentary films, as well as “Stand Up For Unity” © an ongoing awareness prohect endorsed by high profile personalities such as H.H. the Dalai Lama. Nahid will offer you a personal consultation via telephone or Skype to talk through what you want. You will then send any pictures you want and she can create a bespoke painting. This portrait will be 80cmx 80cm or 80cmx100cm and will then be packaged and delivered to your door (within England/Major European cities). The perfect Christmas present! Lot 2. Bernard McGuigan - The Only Way is Up This piece by British sculptor Bernard McGuigan is carved from a piece of honey coloured limestone and mounted on artist’s wood base. The artist has been making sculpture since the age of 16 and was formerly an associate of the Royal Society of British Sculptors, exhibiting at the Royal Academy. His work has been shown in many exhibitions and features in a number of private and public collections both in the UK and around the world, most recently sold at Sotheby’s ‘Made in Britain’ sale, showcasing the best of modern British art. In the tradition of the 20th Century sculptors, such as Modigliani, Gill, Hepworth and Moore, Bernard McGuigan uses the method of direct carving by hand into the stone. The pieces are graceful and deceptively simple, in terms of both their carving style and of their tranquil potency. This beautiful sculpture is approximately 58cm high, and exudes peace and positivity, a must-have for any art lover’s home. Kindly donated by Bernard McGuigan
