Career Change Earns Prestigious Award!
Shez Grigg, a former multi-skills and carpentry and joinery student, has won the New Directions award at the Festival of Learning Awards.
After ten years in retail, Shez returned to education at Bolton College, advancing from a construction multi-skills course to a Level 2 diploma in carpentry and joinery. She then secured a position at Adrian Bodie Cabinet Makers, specialising in bespoke hand-crafted furniture.

The guidance below is subject to change as we await confirmation from the Government regarding funding for courses starting from September 2024.

If you are aged 60 or over at the start of the course, you will be entitled to have your fees waived, whether you are in employment or not. You will need a bus pass, birth certificate or driving licence to enrol, as proof of your age. If you’re under 60, you may be entitled to have your fees waived for beginner type courses if you receive one of the following benefits - evidence of benefit must be dated within 3 months of enrolment date:

1. You can pay for your course in full by credit/debit card when you enrol.
2. You can opt to pay by instalments when you enrol; instalments payments are available for courses over £150 and more than 12 weeks long. A 20% deposit is due on enrolment. Instalments are spread over a maximum of five further months.
3. You can utilise an Advanced Learner Loan if it is available for your Level 3 course. Further explanation is available during the enrolment process.
Instalment payments may be available for in-college enrolments for courses over £150 and more than 12 weeks long. The total cost of the course is split into six equal payments. You will need to pay the first one when you enrol. If you enrol before your course starts in September the second payment will not come out until 1st October. You will need your bank card and branch details. These must be in your name. All fees must be paid before the course end date and therefore the number of instalments may be reduced. If you do not pay for your course, you will need to bring evidence of your benefit or income.

Our online application and enrolment service makes joining a course at Bolton College even easier and, once you have your own Learner Hub account, you can use it to check on the progress of your applications and enrolments.
To join one of our courses, follow the simple guide below. If you need help enrolling, please use our live chat service available from any of our website pages.
Visit our website and read all about the course you are interested in. Courses are grouped together by subject so you can read about, and compare, all the options on offer. You’ll find the website link for each subject area on the course listings page of this guide.
Here’s an example of the link you need to click on or type in to your search browser:
Once you have decided on the course you would like to study (don’t forget to read the entry requirements to ensure that your chosen course is suitable for you) click the yellow button on the right of your screen to either ‘Apply’ or ‘Enrol’.
If the ‘Apply’ button is showing – this means we need to check you meet the entry criteria for your chosen course before you can enrol. Use the ‘Apply’ button to create your Bolton College Learner Hub account and fill in an application form. You should only need to do this bit once.
We will communicate with you by email and text so please enter your mobile number and email address carefully.
Once we have your application form, we will contact you with an acknowledgement and to let you know we will be in touch after we have checked you meet the entry requirements of your chosen course.

Simply click on ‘Create an Account’ and answer the questions.
If you already have a Learner Hub account, log in using your username and password. Don’t worry if you forget your password, just click ‘Forgot your password’ and enter your username or the email address you used to set up your account. Then, follow the link in your password reset email.
Enrolling on to a course
Once your Learner Hub account is set up, you are ready to enrol and pay (if appropriate). Work your way through the screens, filling in the details carefully. We will ask you questions about your: Name, address and contact details, residency status, employment status, existing qualifications and equality and diversity. If you don’t pay your course fees, you’ll need to tell us why.
You will also need to upload evidence if you are asked to (it’s just like uploading a picture to Facebook or WhatsApp).
Once you have answered these questions you will need to:
• Read and confirm you understand our terms and conditions
• Pay your fees (if appropriate) and submit your enrolment
