Supporting Your Learning Wellbeing
We want you to enjoy every minute of College, both in the classroom and out of it, so we have a range of dedicated support and wellbeing services to ensure that this happens. This includes FREE travel; an exciting programme of extra curricula activities; designated Learning Development Mentors to support you in your learning journey; professional and impartial advice and guidance; dedicated one-to-one support for learners with additional learning needs; financial support with the cost of College; plus much more.
Learning & Development Mentors (LDMs)
As part of our Pre-Professionals Programme, you’ll have a dedicated LDM and a Careers Coach to help you create academic and career plans, in line with your individual needs and goals. Meeting weekly, in group or one-to-one sessions, your LDM will be your key point of contact for help and support.
Your Learning & Development Mentor will support you in many ways including:
• Helping you to stay on track with your course • Exploring further study, career and university options • Making sure you are prepared to succeed in the world of work
• Supporting your wellbeing so your time at
College is a successful and happy
Student Mentors
Working closely with our LDM team we have a friendly team of Student Mentors who are always on hand to offer one-to-one support outside of the classroom; providing informal confidential mentoring; and where relevant, to help you liaise with a range of external agencies such as health services, social care, youth and restorative services, and wider education services.
For further information you can contact the Mentoring Team on 01204 482 667.
GCSEs & Digital Skills
Employers and universities usually require candidates to have achieved GCSE 9-4 in English and maths, and for some programmes Science, before they consider offering them a job or a course place. We want everyone to improve their skills in these essential areas, so you’ll continue to study English and Maths up to at least a grade 4 in each subject; the classes also prioritise developing your digital skills, so you’ll improve on these too. You’ll also have the opportunity to develop skills required by employers, including: • Maths & English • Business awareness & customer care • Team-working & time management
The Hub@1.35C

wellbeing
for learning & life
Wellbeing for Learning & Life
We aim to support you to develop the understanding, skills and behaviours to lead a fulfilling, worthwhile and happy life. Good wellbeing underpins successful learning, so we aim to provide the best possible experience for you. In addition to your learning programme we’ll provide you with a menu of activity and support based on the NHS ‘5 Steps to Wellbeing’: Connect, Be Active, Keep Learning, Give to Others and Be Mindful.
Supporting Your Wellbeing
We have several teams within College that can support your wellbeing – you can talk to your Learning Development Mentor; speak with a Mental Health Mentor or Learning Mentor and we also have a College Counselling Service. We believe that talking about any issues which might be worrying you is a strength – as they say a problem shared is a problem halved! Our staff will speak with you privately, listen carefully and they won’t judge you.
Multi-Faith Chaplaincy
Chaplains, representing a number of places of worship, are available to support you during your time at College. Like the College Counsellor, they will always be willing to listen to you without making judgements.
Quiet Room
There is a Quiet Room at College for staff and students to use. It’s open to people of all religious faiths for prayer, and to those who have none for quiet contemplation/meditation. Our Muslim Chaplain offers Friday prayers each week in the Quiet Room.
Care Experienced Young People
If you are a young person who is or recently has been in the care of a local authority and you need any support in College, our Transition & Support Team is here to listen and help you with any worries that you may have. You will have a Learning Mentor assigned to you to support you in the way you feel most comfortable and they will attend your PEP meetings with you.
Childcare
The College provides childcare facilities for students’ children aged from six weeks to five years. Our nursery has been graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted. There is a charge, but you may be entitled to receive free childcare or help towards these costs.
For further information about childcare, contact the Nursery Manager on 01204 482 196.
