At Bolton College, we want your young person to have an outstanding education with real-world skills, helping them to stand out. This means that when it’s time to move on, they’ll have the confidence to springboard on to Higher Education or an exciting new career.

We understand that during these uncertain times, a safe Covid environment is an essential aspect when choosing a college course. Here at Bolton College, we have followed all Government guidelines, ensuring that our learners and staff are as protected as possible within an operational environment, and we have introduced many measures to support and maintain this. We understand that a good relationship with parents and carers is essential, ensuring that our students have a successful experience at College, so we’ve put together this handy guide. Together with your encouragement and our Here’s how the College helps to make successful young people:

ACCESSIBILITY

Our town centre location means we are easily accessible by bike and public transport. There are secure cycle stores for bikes at the back of the Deane Road building. There is also a drop off point for you to use if you bring your son or daughter in by car.

OPEN EVENTS

Come along to an Open Event (pg 4) with your son or daughter and get a feel for what it’s like studying at Bolton College. Have a chat with the tutors to help decide which course is best suited to your young person.

Attending lessons on time; being punctual; arriving ready to learn; showing respect to tutors and classmates; and working hard - all behaviours that will stick with your son or daughter after College, helping them to succeed in their future career.

STUDY PROGRAMMES & APPRENTICESHIPS

Our study programmes are more than just a qualification – they’re designed to help young people step into their chosen careers or progress to university. We offer a range of subjects to suit your son or daughter’s goals and interests, from Entry Level through to Higher Education.

ENGLISH & MATHS

Your son or daughter will achieve that vital GCSE grade 9-4 if they haven’t already, essential for their chosen Higher Education course or career.

ENRICHMENT

We’re committed to supporting the personal development of your son or daughter, enhancing their College experience with opportunities outside of the classroom.

Cross-college events; outdoor team building activities; local and international trips; and the opportunity to apply for the Duke of Edinburgh Award, plus more, will enhance personal and social skills and build confidence, so that your son or daughter has the skills employers are looking for.

FAIRNESS & EQUALITY

We’re an inclusive and supportive College, with a positive approach to equality. We have a commitment to countering discrimination and anti-social behaviour, helping create a safe and friendly environment for our learners.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Our Student Services Team are always on hand to ensure funding is never an issue and to provide advice on bursary entitlements (pg 246). We’re also offering FREE daily breakfast to ALL of our learners; FREE Our Pass for daily travelling; FREE course equipment for beauty therapists; and a FREE CSCS card for all construction learners, essential for site work.

PRE-PROFESSIONALS PROGRAMME

Your son or daughter will have a designated Learning Development Mentor (LDM) and a Careers Coach, providing them with individualised support tailored to their specific needs.

QUALITY TEACHING

Courses are taught by experienced industry professionals in state-of-theart facilities, using the latest industry-standard equipment.

T LEVELS

We offer our learners T Level courses – a Gold Standard technical and professional qualification, which combines class-based theory, practical learning and Industry Placements of 315 days (pg 16).

We look forward to working with you in the future!

They’ll also get to experience the world of work first hand, via a variety of Industry Placements and work experience opportunities, helping develop personal and career-specific skills.

They will also have the opportunity to try out degree level study through our EXCEED Programme with the University of Bolton.

Throughout the year, we’ll keep you up to speed about what’s going on at Bolton College. We communicate with parents/carers on a regular basis, using College Connect and College Engage.
