The Natural World
Beavers’ Walk The Beavers took the ‘scenic’ route from Beech House to Brookside and explored their local area, even observing some Canadian Geese. The walk was challenging for some and a practical opportunity to promote resilience and celebrate success. They were followed by the Year 6 Scouts, who were litter-picking. Christmas Reindeer As the Christmas holidays approached, the Infants were delighted to meet two reindeer who ‘flew’ in for a visit! The children were all very excited to see these amazing animals up close.
Farm Visits The mobile farm once again dropped in at Beech House and gave the children the wonderful experience of being close to a wide range of farm animals – even including llamas! The children were able to show their knowledge and learn even more from the visit.
Forest School Reception children enjoyed an alien-inspired forest school trip with lots of opportunities to experience new activities and develop resilience, creativity and communication and language skills.

Hatching Eggs In the Spring Term, children at Beech House had the opportunity to hatch out some chicken and duck eggs. With just a little help from their teachers, they raised the chicks and ducklings through their earliest days in school and discovered more about the life cycle of birds. Lancashire Hawks and Owls Year 1 have been learning all about owls through stories and by making artwork. A visit from Lancashire Hawks and Owls allowed them to see these amazing birds up close, and some children even had the owls perch on their hands!
Zoo Lab A visit from the Zoo Lab gave PreSchool children the chance to handle and learn more about a whole host of creatures they wouldn’t normally encounter, from giant-sized creepy crawlies to a long snake! Knowsley Safari Park The trip to visit Knowsley Safari Park was exciting for the children in Year 1! They enjoyed seeing all of the animals and learning more about them.
Pets as Therapy A new addition to Beech House this year was Daisy, the school’s Pets as Therapy dog. She began her ‘happiness’ journey at the end of the summer term, visiting groups of children for cuddles, to listen to them reading, and to make them smile!
