HESKETH HOUSE NEWSLETTER 16 FEBRUARY 2024
A note from the Head… It has been another busy week at Hesketh House to round off this half term. We welcomed Year 2 girls for a Taster Morning, enjoyed a fabulous Movie Night and our MFL Day added plenty of extra excitement on Thursday. Everyone has most definitely earned their half term break! I would remind you that the girls return to school on Tuesday 27 February. Mrs C Laverick School Shoes Please note that school shoes should be plain, black and flat. Shoes should be well-fitted and suitable for a busy day in school, which includes playing outside on the playground and going up and down stairs. Slip on shoes are not permitted. Boots may be worn in poor weather, but girls should then change in to shoes once they are inside. Healthy Snacks A reminder that crisps, sweets and chocolate bars or biscuits should not be brought in to School for snacks. We ask that the girls stick to fruit or vegetables if possible. We thank you for your support in this. House Cup Congratulations to Grasmere who were winners of the House Cup for this half term. We will also open on Wednesday 6 March and Thursday 7 March 4.00pm – 4.30pm, in case parents want to pop in too. Pupils are asked to make payments in cash please. Parents, if accompanying your daughter after school, payments may be made by credit or debit card. World Book Day (WBD) 2024 Thursday 7 March Create a character role for yourself for WBD. We invite you to come to school dressed as any character from fiction, non-fiction or poetry. Start thinking about who or what you could be. Collectively we will create a colourful array of characters!
In addition to dressing up, bring a book from home to school on World Book Day, to share with your friends and classmates. It might be a story book, a non-fiction title, a quiz book, poetry book or an annual or comic. Won’t it be fun to share your books with others? All we ask is that you take a bookmark template from your classroom (your teacher will have these), write your name and class on it and pop it inside your book from home so that it won’t get mislaid and can be safely returned to you at the end of the day. Pupils have been given their WBD £1 tokens. These may be exchanged for £1 off a book at the Book Fair or used to get a free specially commissioned £1 book at booksellers. The Bolton School Foundation is a member of the HMC, which is the Heads’ association for leading independent schools, both in the UK and internationally. We are pleased to announce that Mr Philip Britton, the Head of Foundation, has been elected as national Chair of HMC for 2025/6, and will begin a term of office at Chair Elect in September this year. This is, of course, a voluntary role in addition to his usual duties here at Bolton. It is a good time for us to have greater insight into the national debate and to have a greater role in helping to shape those discussions for independent education. You can read more here. There will be an Information Evening on Thursday 14 March when we will be giving pupils and parents more details about what to expect. The football team were amazing at the AJIS Football last Friday afternoon. They all played with desire, dedication and commitment. Only two of the team play football outside of school, so to get 3 draws and 1 win and be unbeaten in the group was outstanding. Well done to all our players!
