From the Head...
There is much to celebrate and enjoy on the pages of our Annual Review for 2013-2014. When I look back at the year it amazes me just how much we manage to fit in. Passion for what and how we teach in the pursuit of inspiring and engaging curious young minds occupies us constantly. Here is a snapshot of life in Hesketh House to share and treasure. As a school we remain tireless in our pursuit of ‘what next?’ in the knowledge that ‘success lies upstream – you can’t drift there’.
Ambassadors
This year, Hesketh House introduced the Ambassadors. Taking the place formerly held by the Prefects, the Ambassadors role gives all of the Year 6 pupils the opportunity to carry extra responsibilities and serve the School in their final year as Junior Girls.
Ambassadors are expected at all times to reflect the values of Hesketh House: respect, honesty, kindness, resilience and responsibility. Their duties are diverse and include welcoming visitors and provided tours, sorting lost property and helping to return items, acting as playground mentors and assisting playground staff, and various other jobs around School. Girls in the role also help to celebrate and represent the Junior Girls’ School at events throughout the year.
All of the Year 6 girls set a great example for other pupils during their time as Ambassadors.

School Celebrates 100/500 Anniversaries
In 2015-2016, Bolton School is celebrating 100 years of the Foundation on its present site and 500 years of education in Bolton. In 1915, Lord Leverhulme brought together Bolton Grammar School for Boys and Bolton High School for Girls under one foundation, split into the Girls’ and Boys’ Divisions that still exist today. In 1516, Bolton Grammar School for Boys was recorded as “a going concern” in what is the earliest known reference to the school that would become part of the Bolton School Foundation, and also the first record of a school in Bolton. The Junior Girls’ School has been involved in a number of commemorative events this year, helping to celebrate the first of these very special anniversaries.
Port Sunlight
The whole of the Junior Girls’ School took a day trip to Port Sunlight for an amazing heritage lesson. The village was for Sunlight Soap workers in 1888 by William Hesketh Lever, who went on to become the School’s best-known benefactor, Lord Leverhulme. The visit allowed the girls to learn more about Lord Leverhulme and Lady Lever, as well as giving them an insight into Edwardian and Victorian life.
