Bolton School Primary Division
Junior Boys’ School
From Mrs. Faulkner
It has been lovely to welcome the boys back into school and they have very much been enjoying their time with teachers and friends. This week, we have welcomed parents in for our annual information evenings, there will be further information related to the curriculum and how you can help your son coming home at the beginning of next week, along with the most pertinent details from my presentation to parents, so please do look out for that.
I am sure that we will all have a very productive and positive year and I look forward to welcoming parents into school on many occasions, however, if you do have any concerns please do let us know.
This week, we are very much establishing new routines with the boys, as they settle into their regular timetable, select new clubs to enjoy as part of the extra-curricular programme and begin to get back into the swing of regular homework and reading. Please do take time to chat with your son about his day, encourage him to talk through what he has been doing and what he is looking forward to. As I said at the information evenings, encourage him to think about what he has on the next day and what equipment that means he will need so that he can plan and pack accordingly.
In terms of safety around the site, please can I request that you avoid parking on the double yellow or zigzag lines, and also that if your son is crossing the road whether he is with you or not, to please do so at the crossing with Barry. Please can I also ask that if you are waiting in the playground at the end of the day, you are aware that no children should be using the adventure trail at that time.
Our newsletter is emailed to parents each Wednesday and we hope that you will find it interesting and informative. As well as reporting on events and celebrating achievements, we also give information about future activities and publish our diary dates. Please keep an eye on the newsletter calendar for upcoming events, though if you want to plan further ahead, the calendar in Parent Portal is an excellent point of reference too.
If you are contacting the School Office, either by telephone (01204 434735) or by email (parkroad@boltonschool.org), please do include your son’s name and form in any communication, as this enables us to deal with queries more efficiently.

Representing School at Fixtures
For those of you who are new to Park Road, we have many teams, including football, cricket, hockey, cross country, athletics, water polo, swimming and chess, for which your son may be selected. If selected to represent the School in a sporting event or chess competition, we will endeavour to give your son and you as much notice as possible about the fixture.
To enhance the possibility of selection, boys are encouraged to attend clubs held during lunch hours and after school on a regular basis. If your son misses lessons due to a school fixture, it is his responsibility to find out what work has been missed and to catch up accordingly. Please check the Calendar section of our weekly Newsletter for the most up-to-date list of events.
Big Battery Hunt
The Big Battery Hunt is a nationwide programme to help educate and inspire young people to recycle more used batteries. Please keep sending all of your unwanted batteries to school this year, where we will store them and then take them to our local supermarket for recycling. There are great prizes to be won for school, including £3500 towards outdoor and garden equipment. SL
Eco Committee News
Well done to all the boys in Gardening Club who planted seed potatoes in June and have now harvested them.
They loved discovering them in the soil. After washing and sharing them, most of the boys had potatoes with their tea. Teddy in Year 6 is pictured on the right with his delicious home cooked chips from the potatoes.
Well done to you all ! SL
Individual Music / Vocal Lessons
New software called Practice Pal is going to be used to schedule instrumental/vocal lessons with our visiting music teachers.
If your son will be having lessons in school, please watch out for an email from Mr Forgrieve with instructions about how to set up an account.
Parent/Guardian accounts are required to be set up before pupils can access their own Practice Pal accounts. Lessons will begin this week. IKF

Invitation from Mr Britton
As Mr Britton mentioned in his email to Senior School parents at the start of term, we are keen to make more opportunities this year for parents to engage with School life.
Whilst we know you are busy, we will invite you to events and hope that you will be able to come to School to meet us from time to time.
A first such occasion will be Thursday 21st September when we will hold a coffee and conversation morning from 8.30am to 11.00am in The Leverhulme Suite. You would simply arrive at the main senior school reception.
All parents are welcome but it may be especially suitable for new parents to the School and we will be joined by some volunteer parents from the Friends of Bolton School.
Mr Britton will give a short talk at 9.00am and have a question and answer session, as well as informal conversation.
There will be other opportunities at other times of the day and evenings during the year, as well as online. Please do park off site and arrive via Riley Reception.
