Wednesday 24th April

I am very much looking forward to this evening’s Spring Concert, I have had the pleasure of hearing some snippets of the rehearsals so far and I believe we are in for a real treat.

Next week, we see the first of our Patterdale visits, with the Year 6 boys heading off for their full week of fun and adventure. Thank you very much indeed to all parents who have been so helpful in ensuring that medical information and other details have been provided so promptly, this really does help us in the preparation for such trips.

Whilst your son is away at Patterdale, we will aim to keep you updated about the boys’ trip via our Twitter feed. Please do however be aware, that there can be some delay in sharing photographs, as the boys and staff are usually so busy, out and about, having a fantastic time. We would always advise taking a ’no news is good news’ approach.

If that wasn’t enough excitement, this weekend, the Cubs are heading to the beach for their annual Cub Camp, I am really looking forward to joining them for the day on Saturday and have my bucket and spade packed already. Anyone not attending this activity may be interested in https://brickfestivalevents.com/event/bolton-brick-festival/

Before Easter, I wrote about the planned development in the Park Road Science Room, the intention being to refurbish the room, open up the space a little more and create a dedicated cooking area at one end, in order to allow the boys to more fully develop that skill, both during lessons and extra-curricular activities. I am delighted to report that work was completed over the course of the Easter break and I think it is fair to say that the boys have been most impressed with the results. Thank you very much indeed to the Parents’ Association for supporting this project, we have been talking about it for a number of years now so I have been really pleased to see it come to fruition.

PD Ski Trip 2024

Over the Easter break, a group of Year 6 boys and girls and staff from Park Road and Hesketh House, ventured to Austria for a ski trip.

For the majority of us, this was a new experience both because we were flying to another country without our parents and also because it was our first ever ski trip.

We flew to Munich and then took a coach all the way to a small village called Zell Am See. Our days were packed with thrilling activities and early starts of 6:30am and then being ready to go by 8:30am on the gondolas. Skiing would start promptly at 9:30am with our specialist ski instructors.

We went up and down various courses on the mountain this challenged us for four hours at a time. The views of the glistening snow-topped mountains were spectacular and left us all speechless.

On the last two days of the trip, we had the opportunity to visit the glacier, which was more than 1000m higher than the mountain than we had been skiing on for the past few days. Although it meant getting up even earlier, it was well worth it because of the breathtaking views.

Evenings were just as busy, with movie nights, a 9 pin bowling (and yes, not 10 pin!), swimming in a heated pool and an exhilarating game night.

The food was exquisite with delicious dishes varying from soups to pasta and then to extravagant platters of meats and vegetables. Every night at dinner, we would be given the opportunity to have one fizzy drink.

I would definitely recommend going on the ski trip to everybody and I cannot wait to go on my next one.

Year 5 English—Romeo & Juliet

In Year 5 English, we have been exploring Romeo and Juliet this week which has involved some great discussion, a focus on voice and movement and also a lot of acting.

Boys have acted out key scenes from the play, as well as creating freeze fames to explore character and emotion.

It has been wonderful to see the boys throw themselves enthusiastically into these activities and really engage with this classic text. JPM

News from the Art Room

Year 4 boys have been working hard on a project to create nature flags, inspired by the repeated patterns of William Morris and using natural dying techniques.

I was really impressed with the excellent teamwork many groups showed, which was also reflected in their self-evaluations where many boys stated how much they enjoyed the opportunity to work together.

Well done, boys ! JPM
