The warm weather arrived this week and it was great to see the boys playing football on the field and cricket on the yard. As Summer is now upon us, I would suggest that boys do apply sunscreen before coming to school and ideally have a small bottle in their bags to apply before heading out in the afternoons. It is also vitally important that water bottles are brought in each day.
Of course, the sun always seems to arrive when exams are taking place! This week, our boys are completing end of year exams in some of their subjects. There were a few nerves on Monday, but cheery faces were visible when break time came around. We only have two more days of assessments, but I would encourage you to ensure your son has an especially good night’s sleep for these two days and our big event on Friday.
Only two more sleeps until our annual fancy dress Fun Run. The boys should come to school in uniform and bring their costumes in a bag, ready to get changed after lunch and head to the levels at Senior School. Please make sure your son has his water bottle with him, as well as sun cream, as it looks like the weather will be on our side for the Run. We look forward to seeing many of you there. Please note: parents will not be allowed on site until 2.15 pm as Senior School is still on lunch at that time. We aim to start our run at 2.20pm. A further copy of the sponsor form is linked here. Our PA will be selling drinks and refreshments at the event. please do drop any cake donations into the Park Road Office on Friday morning
As a fun holiday task, we would like to set the boys the challenge of designing our new Celebration Certificates. The best designs will be used on certificates presented in our Celebration Assemblies each week. We are looking for colourful and imaginative designs. The deadline for entries will be Monday 5th June. A template can be found on Showbie and final designs can be posted onto the Whole School Showbie page or handed in to form teachers. The designs can be electronic or hand drawn. I will explain the competition to the boys on Friday!
I wish you all a lovely half term break and look forward to seeing you in the final half term of the year!
Message from Mrs Faulkner- Head of Primary Foundation
There has been a notable increase in those seeking approval for additional days of holiday, very often immediately before or after the normal school holidays. We monitor all such absence in order to spot patterns and discern trends. It is timely to remind you that I cannot, by law, grant absence for holidays in term time unless in exceptional circumstances.
The clear sense of the guidance is that ‘exceptional’ also means rare and certainly not due to the planning of flights and other logistical arrangements. Permission must be granted in advance, so a letter on the day of the absence or a call as a holiday is extended cannotbe authorised.Thisiswhysuch absence isrecorded as ‘unauthorised’.

During the course of the day, we learned about the science and maths behind Disney Pixar movies and rollercoasters. The boys also spent some time exploring different science displays and talking to real university research scientists.
They investigated archaeology, astronomy, coding, virtual reality, microbiology and forensics, giving the boys a taste of the future of science and further sparking their interest. CDH
A busy day of sport last Friday saw a group of Year 6 boys travel to Manchester Grammar School to take part in the AJIS Inspire End Ball competition.
After an excitement filled journey into Manchester, our 10 players settled into a great afternoon of friendly competition, learning and team work.
The boys picked up the skills of the game well and were very quick to develop their own tactics and team formations.
Well done to Joshua M, Muhammad Zain A, Layth M, Srikar B, Ryan C, Ayaan A, Ehaan D, Max N, Ahmed A and Antonio B. TG
Two of our Park Road tennis players travelled to King’s Chester on Friday to take part in the AJIS Tennis Tournament.

Mrs Iddon, from the School Office, will be donning her hiking boots and stocking up on Kendal Mint Cake once more, to conquer the Three Peaks of Saddleworth, on Saturday 27th May, to support the funding of ABCD Retreats (After Breast Cancer Diagnosis Retreats). She will be trekking over 9km, with Please donate, if you are able to do so, to her JustGiving Crowdfunding Page : https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/kate-hall-5? utm_id=1&utm_term=QxRyDeqQe
Many thanks in advance for your generosity and good luck, Mrs Iddon!
We should like to remind Year 6 parents that, if your son has been offered a senior school place at a Local Authority school, which you do NOT intend to take up, you should advise that LEA yourself.
We are now beginning to receive invitations for some of our Year 6 boys to attend taster days at other schools. If you have no plans for your son to accept the place, it is important that it should be released quickly into the system, so that another child who was not fortunate enough to receive an offer in the first instance, may benefit from it. Many thanks
Mrs Iddon’ HikeWith the sun shining, the Cubs arrived on camp to discover a number of Wanted posters hidden in the Forbidden Forest. This started off the Harry Potter theme to the weekend.
All seven Horcruxes had to be overcome before we could sleep safely on Friday evening. After attending potions class, whittling their own wands, creating Hedwig with origami, throwing an axe or two, vanquishing dragons from grass sledges and experimenting with making butter beer, a banquet was served in the Grand Hall, complete with floating candles and flying letters. Before collapsing into sleeping bags, we also fitted in a traditional campfire, aided and abetted by Mr Britton.
On Sunday morning, the camp was rounded off with the Triwizard Tournament. Quidditch was definitely popular and hotly contested. When all the House points were counted: the best six was ….. Sunrise and the winning House was ….. Gryffindor. Our individual awards went to: Akela’s Award - Theo, Hathi's Award - Florence, Best Seconder - Isla, Runners up best Sixer - Om & Shriansh, Best Sixer - Sam & Avni.
Many thanks to all the volunteers who gave up their time and contributed their creativity to make this a very memorable weekend. 'Akela' - Mrs Hough

Yesterday, Year 5 had an African drumming workshop with Ian Bamford, concluding their Music topic about beats from around the world.
The boys all had chance to play djembes and learned a variety of rhythms, along with how to produce different sounds on the drums. They worked well together and managed to put several rhythm patterns together with call and response.
A great time was had by all! HJO
