School has certainly settled into its usual busy routine with all clubs and fixtures being well under way. During the course of the year, we do endeavour to have as many pupils as possible selected to represent school, particularly in Years 5 and 6, so do please reassure your son that if he hasn’t been selected this time, he should maintain his efforts as there will be lots more opportunities.
This morning, I was delighted to present our new Year 6 Monitors with their badges, I am quite sure they will undertake their duties with dedication and determination. Well done to all who were selected, they will serve in this role until February when a new set of Monitors will be selected.
Now that we have all settled into our routines, I have noticed that more and more families are choosing to make arrangements to meet their sons away from the Park Road playground at the end of the day.
This is, of course, absolutely fine and I am sure that your various arrangements suit your family’s needs appropriately. Please can I just ask however, that you remind your son that should you not be at your designated meeting place, he understands that he should come back to school, where he can be looked after and we can get in touch with you in order to reassure him.
This evening we will be holding our first PA meeting of the year. I do hope to see many of you there, if you aren’t able to make meetings but would still like to help at events, I am quite sure there will be many opportunities to do so. We’ll look forward to sharing information from that meeting in next week’s newsletter.
Please be reminded that there will be no hockey after school at the Leverhulme Pavilion on Friday 29th September.
Finally, it was lovely to see so many current and former Park Road parents at last week’s coffee morning. I look forward to speaking with you at many other such events during the course of the term and year.

Junior Athlete Programme 2023/2024
We are constantly looking for opportunities to celebrate our talented pupils and would like to know which children are currently engaged in sporting activities at 'beyond grassroots level'. This may be county or inter-league cricket, tennis, basketball, netball, hockey or maybe professional football academies etc. We invite you to complete the form below if your son participates in any sport at a level which is beyond his local club.

Pre-Loved Football Boots and Shin Pads
If you have any outgrown football boots (for use on grass or on Astro turf) or any old shin pads, we would be extremely grateful if you could donate them to us for use in school as spares. Thank you in advance for any donations. TG
Representing School at Fixtures
For those of you who are new to Park Road, we have many teams, including football, cricket, hockey, cross country, athletics, water polo, swimming and chess, for which your son may be selected. If selected to represent the School in a sporting event or chess competition, we will endeavour to give your son and you as much notice as possible about the fixture.
To enhance the possibility of selection, boys are encouraged to attend clubs held during lunch hours and after school on a regular basis. If your son misses lessons due to a school fixture, it is his responsibility to find out what work has been missed and to catch up accordingly. Please check the Calendar section of our weekly Newsletter for the most up-to-date list of events.

Students should be sat down with seatbelts on as outlined in our Coach Usage Policy. We would like to remind you that all the coaches have CCTV and there are 2 videos in the policy that we ask all parents to view regarding fire procedures and other general information : https://www.boltonschool.org/our-community/parent-hub-keyinformation/transport
Parents should also remind boys about wearing seatbelts at all times and not playing on their iPads whilst on the coach. We would also like to remind you that you should email Mrs Iddon in the School Office if your son is NOT planning on taking his usual coach home on a particular day. Thank you for your support.

Winter Bugs and Illnesses
There are cases of Covid around School at present, although very small in number. As you will see in the NHS link below, the main triggers for thinking your son may have Covid, would be feeling unwell and having a high temperature, especially if those signs of being unwellarefromthetypicalsymptoms list.
As a general guide, he should try to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for 3 days if he is under 18 children and young people tend to be infectious to other people for less time than adults.
A typical pattern of symptoms is often 2 or 3 days of feeling very unwell, followed by a couple of days feeling very tired.

Another typical illness where we need to be careful to avoid spreading illness is norovirus. The most important message here is that your son must stay away for two days after the last time he was sick or had diarrhoea.

Jasper in Year 5 has had another amazing weekend competing in The Lowlands Championships, which was held at SnowWorld (Landgraaf) a huge indoor ski centre in The Netherlands.
Six nations compete in this championships; Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, Great Britain and Ireland, each nation taking a quota of ski racers to represent them.
Competition rules are strict and all racers, regardless of age, have to finish 2/2 runs to qualify on each day. Jasper put in an amazing effort and won gold medals on both days ahead of lots of brilliant international ski racers. This meant he also won 30 points for Team GB who went on to win the Nations Cup, with Netherlands and Belgium coming in second and third.
Jasper is really proud of his individual wins, as well as being a part of an overall win for GB.
Well done indeed Jasper, everyone at Park Road is so proud of all your fantastic achievements.
Congratulations to Max in Year 5 who was successful in his karate grading recently and achieved his red and gold belts. Next step - black belt.
Well done, Max !
