Celebration Assembly
At the end of last week, we held our first celebration assembly of the year and it was a pleasure to celebrate our boys’ achievements, both in and out of school. Before I came to the school, what appeared to be one of its strengths was its encouragement of all of our students’ endeavours and this was very apparent in our assembly. We had a range of commendations, from reading over the summer, to being able to do a side kick. Some of our boys have already been celebrated in our weekly newsletter but they had an opportunity to share their accomplishments within our school community.
The boys were all very respectful and appreciated each others’ achievements. We ended our assembly by announcing the Year 6 monitors for the first part of the year. This is a really important role and an honour to be selected by the teachers. The boys will play a significant role in upholding the standards of the school, helping teachers and supporting their peers. There will be further opportunities in the year for other Year 6 boys to take on the Monitor positions.
School Photo
On Tuesday, we had our first Primary Division photograph for 11 years. The photograph involved students and staff from Beech House, Hesketh House and, of course, Park Road. It was an excellent opportunity for the boys to see how they fit into a bigger picture of the school, whilst also being able to say hello to former teachers, peers, brothers and sisters.
As you can imagine, getting this large group together was no easy task. Our boys were first out on the field and they remained positive and chirpy throughout the experience let’s hope that positivity comes through in the final photo!
Open Morning- Year 5 Tour Guides
This is a final plea from me to ask Year 5 parents who have not yet responded to our Open Day Google Form to do so as soon as possible. During Open Day, we need a large representation of Year 5 boys to tour parents around our school and support some of the activities in school.
It is an excellent opportunity for the boys to show pride in their school and communicate with confidence about their learning.

Primary Division Parents’ Association
Developing good relationships with our parents is something we work very hard on across the Primary Division and our Parents' Associations have always been an integral part of that.
As you may know, in each of the three PD schools; Beech House, Hesketh House and Park Road, our Parents' Associations are experiencing a period of change as those who previously served on the PA committees have moved on, either to a new part of the Primary Division or to Boys' or Girls' Division.
This, coupled with what we appreciate to be the increased pressures on our parents' time, suggests that this is a good time to consider how we might restructure the PAs in order to make the best use of the time, expertise and enthusiasm of our whole parent body in order to develop fund-raising and social opportunities which benefit our children and parents.
We would welcome the views and suggestions of all of our parents and as such, invite you to attend a meeting to discuss the future organisation of our Parents' Associations. This will be held in the Arts Centre at 7pm on Wednesday 12th October
In order to allow us to plan logistics for this meeting, I should be grateful if you could register your intention to attend via the Google Form link below, prior to Monday 10th October. If you are unable to attend, but have any suggestions you would like to put forward for consideration, these can also be recorded via the Google Form.

Kidzone Half Term Holiday Schedule
Please
Please contact Kidzone directly if you wish to book your son onto any of the activities.
Lost Property
Unnamed clothes etc which are found around the school are placed in the lost property crate in the cloakroom area.
Named items are returned to the classes by the monitors responsible for lost property.
Every half term, we will empty out the lost property crate, displaying the unclaimed and unnamed items on the small yard or in the Hall – giving parents a chance to claim back their items at the end of the day.
Any unclaimed items left at the end of each half term will be recycled locally.
Please ensure all items brought into school are clearly named. CDH
Catch of the Day !
This week, the weather was more suited to ducks than Park Road anglers but it didn’t seem to bother them too much and it certainly didn’t stop the fish from biting !
The boys hunkered down under the fishing brollies and got stuck into the competition to catch the biggest fish. Once again, lots of fish of differing varieties were caught with Sam coming out on top with a 1lb-2lb F1 Carp. Ali wasn’t far behind with a 1lb Roach and then Joseph a close third with a rather lovely Perch. KEW
Recycled Art Project
We have an exciting new project planned, to spice up the interior design of the Dining Room and get the boys at Park Road recycling more plastic.
We are hoping to recreate the Bolton School crest out of recycled bottle tops, to sit above the hot plates in the dinning room. Please could you collect as many bottle tops as possible, wash them and bring them in to school when you have a bag full. These can be any size or colour, and any that aren’t used will be sent away to be recycled after we have finished the project.
When you are ready to send a batch of bottle tops in, please ask your son to give them to Mr Winstanley.
Foundation Open Morning
We will be opening our doors to the public on Saturday 8th October from 9.30am for our annual Open Morning. As ever, we are always grateful for the support of pupils on this day, who help out in so many different ways.
If you know of any families whom you think might be interested in learning more about us, do please alert them to the event.
We are asking that enquirers pre-register their attendance at boltonschool.org/ openday
The event in our Primary Division will end at 1.00pm and in the Senior Schools at 2.00pm.

Huge congratulations to Jasper Daniels, in 4A, who had an incredible weekend of competing in The Lowlands Championships in The Netherlands.
He far exceeded expectations for an international competition and was placed 3rd overall U10 (1st British) on both days!
Jasper came away with two individual bronze medals and his podium finishes earned points for the GB team, which was then also placed 3rd overall in The Nations Cup.
This is a phenomenal achievement, Jasper. Everyone at Park Road is extremely proud of you. Well done !
Lots of Park Road boys took part in the Manchester Junior Chess tournament last weekend. Well done to Sujay Thiruvallar from 3A, who won one and half out of five games of chess.
Svojas Dubey, from 3A, also participated and won three out of his five chess matches. Aash Govindu in 6B also took part and won three out of his five matches too.
Laith Isaji, Mikey Raymond and Seth Kelly, all in 5A, played in the Greater Manchester junior chess trials in Swindon at the weekend too, which was a great experience with lots of other children involved.
Well done to all who took part in chess last weekend. We hope many of our chess boys will be as successful at the forthcoming AJIS Chess Tournament,
Year 6 Monitors
Congratulations to Mani, Jake, Noah and Khaleel from 6A; Aash, Milan, George, Max and Freddie from 6B; Diyan, Taran and Ibrahim from 6C. All of these boys have been selected by the staff as Year 6 Monitors for the first half of the year. It is an honour to be chosen in this role of responsibility in School and the boys were all suitably proud of their achievement when their name was announced in assembly last week by Mr King and they were presented with their lapel badges. The boys will carry out a range of important duties around School, all of which are designed to help different areas of school life run more smoothly and develop the boys’ personal organisation, independence and leadership skills. They all appear eager and ready to start their roles this week and I am sure we will notice a difference around School.
There will be a chance for another group of Y6 boys to have this experience later in the year when the current monitors stand down and new ones are chosen. KEW

As part of World Mental Health Day on Monday 10th October and in association with the Young Minds Charity, we are once again going to be taking part in the ‘Hello Yellow’ campaign. Throughout the week, the children will be taking part in a range of different activities to highlight the importance of discussing mental health and not hiding away from it. We all struggle with how we're feeling sometimes and it is normal to have ups and downs.
On Tuesday 11th October we ask that your son comes into school wearing something yellow for our whole school assembly. This could be a yellow top, scarf, socks, headband and/or hat. The colour yellow represents positivity and happiness as well as being a symbol to show children that they are not alone with their mental health.
