Wednesday 5th June
I do hope that you have all had a most enjoyable half term break and it has been lovely to see the boys back in school, clearly refreshed following a change of pace.
As we return, this half term is a very short one, with only five weeks in total to squeeze everything in. As such, it is more important than ever to keep track of what is going on via the diary reminders in the newsletter and also on Parent Portal.
This Friday, 7th June, we will be having all of our group and team photos taken. Due to the extensive nature of the opportunities on offer at Park Road, this will involve a large number of boys throughout the day.
In order to ensure the day runs smoothly, we ask that all boys bring in their sports kit on Friday 7th June
In Years 5 and 6, most boys will have represented the school at some point this year, as well as a large number of our Year 3 and 4s, so having sports kit will ensure nobody misses out.
Boys who have performed in musical ensembles should bring in their instruments (percussion ensemble to bring in their drumsticks). The Year 6 Cricket team should bring their cricket whites.
Photos will be available to purchase and your son will bring a contact sheet home with all of the details on how to do this.
Before the half term, the boys all completed their end of year exams. Please be aware that the English and Maths papers are sent away to be marked externally and those results will be shared directly with parents alongside the end of year reports.
For boys in Years 5 and 6, they will have the opportunity to look through their History and Geography papers with their teachers over the coming weeks and they may share their final score with you, this will also be formally reported alongside the English and Maths results.
Amongst the many things to look forward to this term, we do have the very first Foundation Summer Festival, details of which can be found on page 3 of this newsletter.
I am hearing reports that the tickets are selling very well for this and am sure it will be a fantastic afternoon for all.
Also coming up, on the final day of term (Friday 5th July), we will be having our usual Sports Day in the afternoon further details of that will be shared in the coming weeks, but parents are welcome to come along and cheer the boys around the track.

Pot Noodles for Urban Outreach
Following our successful Christmas collection appeals, the School Council decided that it would be a good idea to support Urban Outreach throughout the year.
We organised the emptying of the green Grub Tub on the bottom corridor and it is now ready again to receive donations.
Urban Outreach needs certain things all year round and so we have volunteered to collect pot noodles. Please bring in sealed pot noodles (any flavour) and put them in the green Grub Tub.
Our aim is to collect as many pot noodles as we can by the beginning of July.
Thank you ! School Council

Mr Minta has been commissioned by Manchester University, as part of the Histories Festival this year, to create work responding to 200 Years of the University.
He will be reading the three poems he has written on Friday 7th June, at this FREE event, between 6 and 9pm. https://manchesterhistories.co.uk/events/day-2-friday-7-june-2024-it-started-with-a-seed-international -storytelling-festival-is-was/. There are lots of things going on as part of the Festival, do let us know if you go along: https://manchesterhistories.co.uk/
Thank You to the PA !
Welcome to the jungle! Massive thank you to our PA who has kindly funded a living wall in 5C. There is lots of evidence showing that the growing of plants in classrooms aids oxygen flow, as well as being good for positive mental health.
There is new growth appearing on the wall already, which is being tracked carefully and is a great thing to see in the classroom. JPM
Gallery Review
It has been great to take the first group of boys to see their work, as part of the crossdivision gallery review. Boys from Years 4, 5 and 6, as well as girls from Hesketh House and Girls’ Division have been creating work with an environmental and social theme, which has now been exhibited for staff and pupils from across all the Foundation to visit.
This is some of the work which was picked up on so positively in the ISI report where it was noted the Year 6 pupils at Park Road demonstrated "significant creative skills, critical thinking and collaboration", all of which are Park Road Principles which we are embedding in the curriculum in Art. It was great to see pupils not only pleased to see their work in a public gallery, but also respond to the work of other pupils across the school in such a positive way.
Really proud of our boys. JPM

Achievements
Well done to all the athletes who took part in AJIS Athletics in Warrington earlier this week. Some great individual and team efforts !
Congratulations to all of our water polo players who have retained the ESSA trophy after victories in multiple games against St. Ambrose and Manchester Grammar School earlier today.
A fantastic result for our boys and for the girls from Hesketh House. TWRG
Over the last few weeks, Gwilym in Year 6 has won four LTA tennis tournaments (a Grade 5 at 14 and Under, two Grade 4s at 12 and Under, and a Grade 5 at 12 and Under), been runner up in another (a Grade 4 at 12 and Under), and semi-finalist in two further tournaments (both 14 and Under, one at Grade 4 and the other at Grade 5).
He's worked hard to achieve this, competing in his own age group and the one above, against stiff competition.
Well done, Gwilym, these are amazing achievements !
Congratulations to our resident skier, Jasper in Year 5, who had a great half term of racing and training. Jasper competed in the Ambition National races at the Chill Factore, taking 1st place on day 1 and then 2nd place on day 2.
Along with his haul of medals and trophy, Jasper also won merchandise from Atomic & Level and a bursary for an Alpine training camp. It was then straight on to two days of training!
Well done, Jasper such fantastic achievements !
Well done to Dylan, in Year 5, who had a busy half term, with brilliant performance in the Manchester Chess Mega Finals, emerging as the overall winner with a perfect 6/6.
On his way to the win, Dylan beat two more experienced and higher rated players in some very exciting games. Dylan also achieved a distinction in his recent piano Grade 1 exam.
Well done, Dylan great achievements !
