Bolton School Primary Division Junior Boys’ School Wednesday 6th December
Autumn Term, 2023 — WEEK B
From Mrs. Faulkner School is certainly starting to feel quite festive, whether that is a result of the wintry weather, the arrival of our Christmas tree or just the inevitable excitement as we approach the end of term. There are many different events to look forward to in the remaining two weeks.
COMPULSORY SCHOOL EVENT THIS TERM: Carol Service, Tuesday 19th December, 7pm
Wednesday 6th December Swim Development, 4-5pm Cubs, 6.30pm
Thursday 7th December Y4 BWFC Kids’ Cup (Tempest Road, 12 midday) Jujitsu—4-5.30pm LAMDA—4-5pm Ski Improver Course, Chill Factore, 7.40pm (CF) or 8.15pm (PR) Cubs, 6.30pm
This Friday (8th December), the boys will enjoy their House morning, working together to decorate school in their House colours. House mornings are a great way for the boys to work with those they don’t usually, including working across the year groups. It is always lovely to see the older and younger boys working collaboratively on these tasks. As we will be getting into the festive spirit, the boys are invited to wear a festive jumper or t-shirt for the occasion, though, of course, they don’t have to. I have been pleased with the popularity of our PA’s Movie Night which also takes place this Friday , (8th December), after school. We are looking forward to a festive film with friends and I’m sure the boys will have a fantastic time. Thank you very much indeed to our team of volunteers who make these things possible. Thank you very much as well for your generosity in supporting the now annual Christmas hampers round up, both in providing items for the hampers and in purchasing raffle tickets. If you’ve not yet done so, details of how to purchase tickets can be found further in this newsletter. In the final week of term, we will, of course, have our annual Carol Service. This is a compulsory school event for all boys. It is always a wonderful occasion and this year I am delighted that it is on the penultimate evening of term, as it is a really fitting way to end a busy and productive term together, in the beautiful venue of the Great Hall. There are no tickets required for this event, and thankfully, we have moved well beyond needing to restrict the number of attendees, so do please feel welcome to bring along other family members.
Just a reminder, that term ends on Wednesday 20th December at 4pm. This is different from previous years, where the 3.25pm finish used to catch many parents out so, hopefully, finishing at our normal time will make things much easier for you all. Please note that we have been advised that the School Uniform Shop will be closed from 16th December to 8th January, 2024, inclusive. I look forward to seeing you all at the various events over the next two weeks.

Achievements A massive well done to our U11 football team who took part in the AJIS MCFC Football Tournament last week. The boys battled hard in all matches and managed to get out of the groups on goal difference. They narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-final to Cheadle Hulme, in a closely fought 1-0 loss. Well done to all boys involved! TG

Senior School Joint Production The Senior Joint Production of Around the World in 80 Days will take place from Wednesday 6th to Friday 8th December in the Boys' Division Great Hall. Performances begin at 7 pm. Around the World in 80 Days is the tale of uptight Victorian gent Phileas Foggs's dash to circumnavigate the globe in just 80 days to win a gentlemen's club wager. The show is full of slapstick capers as our measured man of manners pushes the boundaries of steam travel, armed only with a good brolly, a bag full of cash, stoic faith in Bradshaw's book of world timetables and his colourful French valet, Passepartout. We are promised a laugh a mile as the acrobatic cast presents a blur of platforms, trains and exotic ports for the duo to journey through. The show will be awash with bowler hats, circus acts, elephants and pith helmets!

Carol Service This year’s Carol Service will take place in the Great Hall of the Boys' Division Senior School on Tuesday 19th December at 7:00pm. This is a compulsory event for all boys and is a presentation of work completed during school music lessons. All boys should present themselves at the Senior School no later than 6.45pm, wearing a white shirt with long sleeves and normal school uniform, without a jumper or blazer. Parking will be available in the Senior Boys’ Quad and Dobson Road Quad. Entry to Senior School is through the Riley Centre or the corner of the Boys’ Division Quad, where a Sergeant will be on hand to guide you. Apart from a small number of seats, which are reserved for families associated with the soloist, readers and parent volunteers, please sit wherever you wish and feel free to invite close, family guests. Since this is a service, it is customary for there to be no applause following each performance. Please note that neither photography, nor filming of the event is permitted and that all mobile phones should be switched off.
There will be a retiring collection in aid of Save the Children which we hope you will feel able to support. Members of the PA will be selling refreshments in the Riley Centre café from 6.30pm.
