We will be holding our annual Open Evening on Thursday April 27th, where prospective parents will have the opportunity to see the school, meet teachers and receive important information about the operation of the school.

As part of this evening, we ask our Year 6 boys to assist with tours. Visiting parents from previous open days and evenings have always commented positively about the young men who show them around the building and talk about their learning and experiences of the school. This is also a really valuable opportunity for the boys to take part in service and leadership for the school. We ask that Year 6 parents keep this date in mind but further details will be released in the coming weeks.

Treasures of Bolton School Thursday 18th May

Join us for an evening with Eric Fairweather, the Bolton School Archivist, who will share some of the historic treasures of Bolton School with a small audience. We will meet in the Boys’ Division library for light refreshments from 6.30pm, and then Eric will guide us through the Chained Library and other items of historical interest, between 7pm and 8pm.

Tickets are £5 each, on a first come, first served basis, and there are 20 places available. If you would like to attend, please email here for booking details and tickets.

Evening Classes

The Friends of Bolton School are considering organising term-time evening courses for current parents, alumni and current and former staff. The classes will be taught by some of Bolton School’s most experienced and popular teachers with the emphasis on learning in a relaxed environment.

To help the Friends plan this venture, we should be grateful if you could complete this short questionnaire if you think you might be interested.

U10 Football vs Edinburgh Academy

Last Friday afternoon, it was the hotly-anticipated annual fixture against Edinburgh Academy. The A team found themselves up against extremely tough opposition and after the first 20 minutes it seemed that neither team was going to get on the scoresheet, with terrific goalkeeping performances from both sides.

Up stepped our very own Marcus Rashford (Marcus Oper) who opened the scoring at the end of the first half and secured his hat trick in the second half. Edinburgh continued to look dangerous in the second half, hitting the bar three times, but an unfortunate own goal resulted in a 4-0 final score.

The B team also found themselves being tested. It was a tense game throughout, with both teams trying to find a winning goal but being unable to do so. Final score was

1-1. We were delighted to welcome back Edinburgh Academy and we hope they enjoyed the games and the rest of their football tour. RL

Trip to BBC at Media City

As part of our World Book Day celebrations last week, Mrs Brisk announced the winners of the Share a Story Film competition in our morning assembly. It was a tough choice with brilliant reviews from boys from Years 3 to 6 all producing excellent reports to share the reasons as to why they like a particular book and recording this as a creative, filmed report. The twelve winning videos were : Avi Waghray (4B), Dylan Jones (4A), Harlan Moore (5A), Haroon Bhaiyat (3B), Joseph Binns (5C), Ra’ees Ally (4B), Rayyan Ahmed (4B), Ryan Guo (3A), Sam Clements (5A), Sujay Thiuuvallar (3A), Thomas Owen (3B) and Wilf Mathieson (5C).

The winners were treated to a VIP trip to the BBC studios, learning all about the inside of the BBC buildings at Media City. They learned all about the acoustics of different studios used for radio, different roles in the production control room, studios used for their favourite CBBC shows including Newsround and finished their tour meeting Dodge, the very entertaining dog in the CBeebies house. Mrs Brisk would like to thank all boys who entered this competition. It was a pleasure to listen to their reasons for why they liked certain books for a variety of reasons and she hopes to share these for other boys to see in the Library too to inspire their choices further. Mrs Brisk hopes that it has inspired some boys to read other books with the videos shared in the assembly as well as an interest in film making and possibly some future interests in TV presenting careers too!
