10 MAY 2024

A note from the Head…

It has been much quieter in school this week, with Year 3 pupils away at Patterdale on Tuesday and Wednesday and Year 4, 5 and 6 focussing on their examinations. Year 3 will take their tests next week. The test papers are sent away for marking and results are shared when we get them back, usually a couple of weeks after the half term break.

Over the next two weeks we resume our usual busy schedule with Year 4 and Year 5 Patterdale trips, Year 6 Bikeability, several swimming galas, AJIS Proms and also the Year 6 Careers Afternoon. Please do keep an eye on our diary at the end of the Newsletter.

Year 6 Trip to Stockport

Thursday 2 May

Year 6 girls had a fabulous time when they visited the Stockport Air Raid Shelters and Museum last week. They learnt so much from this interactive experience, which really brought to light the period of history they are currently studying.

An email will be sent home just prior to each trip, with confirmation of final details.

Please could I remind you that the girls are not allowed to take mobile phones to Patterdale Hall. If there was an emergency and parents needed to contact the group then the following options are available:

During School Hours – contact should be made with Hesketh House and messages will be passed on to staff at Patterdale.

The Patterdale Hall number is 017684 82233. We will also have a school mobile phone, carried by a member of staff. The number will be sent out on the email. This should not be used unless there is an ‘out of hours’ emergency.

Please assume that ‘no news is good news’! Teachers will contact parents directly if necessary.

Staff will endeavour to get pictures on X when possible, but please do understand that the days are very busy with activities andWi-Fi is only available in the Hall itself, so opportunities for uploading are limited. The main focus for the staff will be in ensuring that the girls have a fabulous trip!

Hulton Lecture

Tuesday 7 May

This year’s lecture was given by old girl Alisha Whitehead, who is the centre manager for a new brain research centre in Greater Manchester. The girls were fascinated to hear about her job and particularly the case studies she shared with them. Equally importantly, we were all interested to learn that Alisha chose this career path whilst in her final year at university. She encouraged all the pupils not to worry unduly about what they might want to be in the future, but to work hard, do things that they enjoy and be open-minded about what might lie ahead. Make the most of opportunities that come your way!
