HESKETH HOUSE NEWSLETTER 12 JANUARY 2024
A note from the Head…
Christmas Hamper Raffle
Happy New Year! It was lovely to see the girls back this week, looking refreshed after a relaxing break from school. I hope that you all enjoyed some quality family time together during the holiday. In assembly this week we talked about New Year’s Resolutions and decided on three things we would all try to focus on at Hesketh House. These were: • To work really hard in lessons • To be more organised • To be kind We will be talking more about these over the next few weeks and I will be looking out around school to see if I can spot evidence of the girls’ efforts! I would remind you that general queries should be directed to the Hesketh House office 01204 434761 or juniorgirls@boltonschool.org.uk. Please include your daughter’s name and form in any emails so that they can be dealt with efficiently.
Congratulations to everyone who won a hamper in the raffle draw! Thank you to the PA for organising this and to everyone who donated a prize, the hampers were amazing. Samba Band Thank you very much to Mr Lovatt and the Samba Band, who played in the final assembly of term. They were brilliant!
As ever, the Spring Term will be a busy one, so please do keep your eye on the diary, which is always included at the end of the Newsletter. Mrs C Laverick House Cup Autumn Term Christmas Concert

HESKETH HOUSE NEWSLETTER 12 JANUARY 2024
Messages from Mr Britton, Head of Foundation We talk a lot about social mobility at school and it would be useful to understand better about the social mobility of our school community. I am conducting a survey with colleagues, alumni, parents and pupils. The Social Mobility Commission has devised a simple question for employers to use, which is to ask ‘What role did your parents have when you were 14?’. It would be great to gather this data and so, if you have literally a moment, please complete this form https://forms.office.com/e/LNjPD31kyd. After the success of the September coffee morning I hosted for parents last year, we will be having a tea, coffee and biscuits afternoon on Wednesday 14 February from 2.30pm to 4.00pm in the Boys’ Division dining room. Parents from all parts of the Foundation are welcome and it may especially suit those waiting for Primary Division pupils in cars at that time. I will say a few words around 3.00pm. We will share more detailed arrangements nearer the time.
Spring Term Ambassadors
Year 6 pupils enjoy the opportunity to act as Ambassadors, carrying out a variety of duties around Hesketh House. Thank you in advance to these girls for their help and support! 6F 6G Safaa Ally Meghna Ajith Milana Bacci Sophie Andrews Erin Chalk Jaydeep Banga Eve Kelsall Harriet Davis Connie Kendrick Ayzah Karim Alice Lomas Sana Matak Vaani Malik Isabella Naughton Hattie O’Neill Grace Zhang Amelia Tickle
Severe Weather Arrangements The Severe Weather Arrangements were emailed to parents last term, a copy can be found here. The key points are that information will be posted on the front page of the school website (www.boltonschool.org), usually by 7.00am, and we would be grateful if parents would use the website as the first port of call. You will also be sent an email, and news often first appears on School X Accounts such as @Philip_Britton, @sfboltonschool, @BSPDJnrGirls. Individual Music Lessons If you are interested in your child taking up music lessons within school, please look through our Visiting Music Teachers brochure here for further details. If you have any questions about individual music lessons at school, please contact Mr Forgrieve, ikf@boltonschool.org.

Senior School Entrance Examination Day Tuesday 16 January Good luck to our Year 6 girls taking the Senior School Entrance Examination next Tuesday! Hesketh House is open as usual for Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 pupils. Please note that, as the Senior Schools are closed, there will be far fewer pupils on the coaches. Please get to the stop in plenty of time as delays are much less likely and do not be alarmed if the bus stop seems deserted! Flu Immunisations Wednesday 17 January We will be having our ‘catch up’ session next week, for those who missed the opportunity for these immunisations last term. Hesketh House Music Festival Monday 5 February and Tuesday 6 February We will be holding our annual Music Festival prior to half term, with the piano classes on Monday 5 February and other instrumental and ensemble groups on Tuesday 6 February. Parents will be able to come in to watch the sessions their child is taking part in if they wish; we will confirm timings in the next couple of weeks, once we have a clearer picture of the numbers involved. External adjudicators will award certificates and placings in each category, and give individual feedback on all of the performances. We will be inviting the award winners in each category to perform in a Celebratory Concert on the evening of Wednesday 1 March. More details will be given nearer the time.
Annual Giving Report, 2022-23 During the 2022-23 academic year, an outstanding £2.39 million was donated to the School and to the Bolton School Bursary Foundation (BSBF), the charity established last year to hold the School’s bursary funds. This exceptional total reveals the shared determination of supporters from across the School community to ensure Bolton School continues to act a driver of social mobility in the local area, and we are honoured to have received such outstanding support from so many individuals. Thank You. To learn more about the transformational difference this generosity will make to the School, you can read the 2022-23 annual Giving Report in full here.
