A note from the Head…

Thank you very much to everyone who joined us for a Parent Consultation meeting this week, whether in-person or online. Staff do appreciate catching up with parents, and I am sure that you have found the feedback useful too.

It has been another busy week in school with the AJIS Music Festival, Young Shakespeare Production, Year 3 trip to Brockholes and various sporting fixtures and competitions too. In addition, today we are supporting Comic Relief with the girls coming to school in their own clothes with a ‘red’ theme. Hesketh House have raised a wonderful £355.70 for this worthy cause, well done!

Finally, could I remind you to contact the Hesketh House office first thing in the morning if your daughter will not be in school for any reason. Day to day queries should also be directed to the office juniorgirls@boltonschool.org.uk or 01204 434761. Please do not send general messages to personal staff email accounts, as these may not be checked regularly throughout the day.

AJIS Music Festival

Tuesday 12 March, Bury Grammar

The Year 6 girls performed in the AJIS Music Festivalearlier this week singing ‘Can you Hear my Voice’ by Lin March and one of Miss Eccleshare’s own compositions, ‘We are all Different’. The girls sang beautifully and were commended on their clarity and engagement with the audience.

Young Shakespeare Production

Wednesday 13 March

Year 5 and Year 6 girls enjoyed a fabulous interactive production of A Midsummer Night’ s Dream this week, in conjunction with the Young Shakespeare Company.

Year 3 Trip to Brockholes

Thursday 14 March

Year 3 had a wonderful visit to Brockholes this week, taking part in two excellent workshops. One was linked to their science topic of plants, looking at life cycles and what plants need to grow and be healthy. The other was about maps and the girls used a map to navigate themselves around Brockholes. Once they arrived in the Deep Dark Wood, they used natural materials to make their own map with their group.

Thank you to all parents who attended the Patterdale Hall Information Evening, hopefully you found this interesting and informative. If you weren’t able to attend, or simply can’t remember everything, a video link will be sent out by email shortly.

Year 3 Author Talk – Lauren Child

Thursday 21 March

Year 3 girls have been invited to attend a talk by Author Lauren Child, on the morning of Thursday 21 March. Hardback copies of her newest release ‘Clarice Bean: Smile’ will be available for purchase on the day, which Lauren is happy tosign. Thegirls need to bring £12 in a named envelope with them to the talk if they wish to buy the book. More information has been given to the girls, a copy of the flyer can be found here.

Year 6 – Bolton Children’s Fiction Award

Friday 22 March

Year 6 girls will be involved in the Book Awards Ceremony during the morning on this date. Books have been pre-ordered for those who sent in their payment at the start of the week, but may also be available for purchase on the day, priced £7 each. Lily Bailey will be attending and will be able tosign any copies of her books that are purchased.

A small number of Year 6 girls took part in a super Science Masterclass, hosted at Hesketh House, but involving students fromseveralotherschools inthe region. They enjoyed completing a variety of science experiments and discovering lots of new and interesting things!

Easter Bingo!

This costs £1 to enter –money should be brought in to school on the day. All girls receive a treat for playing, with Easter Egg prizes for the winners.

If your daughter will need to take a regular medication during her stay at Patterdale, please complete the Consent to Administer Medicine form, which can be found in the Parent Portal. Medication must be handed in to the school office prior to departure and can only be administered if the correct paperwork is completed.

Year 6 girls will have the opportunity to take part in Bolton Council’s Bikeability programme early in the summer term. More information has been sent home, a copy ofthe lettercan be found hereandthe consent form is here Consent forms should be returned to school by the end of this term, Wednesday 27March, if youwish your daughterto take part.

Little Shop of Horrors! 20, 21, 22 March

Tickets for the Senior Musical “Little Shop of Horrors!” are now on sale!

There are three performances, taking place on Wednesday 20, Thursday 21 and Friday 22 March. This classic musical from the 80s promises to be a fun-filled evening forall. Plant Sale

Deadline 31 March

Orders should be placed before the end of March and plants will be available for collection from Saturday 11 May. FREE Easter Holiday Activities for Young People, Teachers and the Wider-Community

We would like to draw your attention to an array of free activities that will take place in Bolton over the Easter holidays. These offers are part of the School's wider contribution to arts and culture in Bolton. Thereareenrichmentactivities designedfor children, adults and the wider community.

In April, take part in the 'Town of Children' project in Bolton! The former Crompton Place library transforms into a Creative Innovation hub for 2024. Youngsters lead conversations on positive change, inviting teachers and the Bolton community to collaborate on transforming the space into an inclusive innovation centre for a more vibrant and creative town. The offer includes art workshops, action painting, social design projects, a filmmaking project, community forums, projects for teachers anda new community-designed mural for the town. Explore further and enrol for sessions here.

'Bolton, Town of Children' will be delivered by Creatives Now and international artists, BASECLAN. Creatives Now is a Bolton Cultural Education Partnership project delivered by representatives from Bolton School and Bolton at Home. The Easter offer is produced with funding support from Bolton Council and Arts Council England via a Greater Manchester Creative Health Region #BeeWell initiative with Curious Minds.

The content of the project is informed by Year 9 BD and GD Seniors creative health consultation workshops that took place in October 2023.

Year 6 Bolton Swimming Competition

The girls swam brilliantly in this gala, winning all of their individual and relay races.

Along with the boys from Park Road, we came in first place and were awarded gold medals and the trophy. Congratulations to all of our Primary Division swimmers!

Our Year 5 girls played very well in the AJIS Netball Tournament yesterday, with both teams finishing in 5th place in their respective competitions. Very well done!
